"There’s more roast meat per capita in Chinatown than bikes on JFK—and one of the great spots for chopped-to-order pork is Yummy BBQ Kitchen. You’ll know you’ve made it when you spy the crackly-skinned duck hanging in the window, or catch a whiff of bitter melon and soy sauce chicken from down the block. It’s a simple setup: pick an entree like curry beef or chow mein, or a rice plate with roasted duck, ribs, or sweet and sour pork that’s piled high for you in a to-go box. When in doubt, get the BBQ pork with sweet caramelized edges over rice. Another reason to come here for your next lunch? Everything on the menu is $15 or under, a.k.a. less than it costs to get one and a half oat milk lattes these days." - Julia Chen

Do not go here. They will act as if they don't understand you and pile a bunch of food that you don't want on your plate and take your money. They say "extra one dollar" then when you are done you give them the money to pay and they don't give you your change back. Definitely extortionist. The lunch special is a set up. I was reading the other reviews and I am sure this company has family and friends leaving reviews. Do not hand that lady your money until you are for sure you have what you want. And use exact change. This place is bad and the food is worse. I promise you will walk away wishing you took heed. Do not go here

They use organic duck for their roast duck (and great prices at only 22.99 for a whole duck). The seasoning of the duck is really good here. The two older gentlemen working behind the meat counter are friendly. I’ve tried their roast ducks, char siu, pork belly with crackling, and some prepared foods. All are delicious

Some of my favorite roast duck and roast pork. Crispy, tender, juicy, and flavorful

I happened to be in area. Dropped by see what they have. Friendly lady raved about their food items. Ordered cha sui -BBQ Pork-moist and flavorful. The beef Chou Hall- beef fried flat noodles were cooked right after ordering; ready in under 5 minutes. The noodles were soft and there’s generous amounts of beef and green onions. Would patronize this shop again.

Food is just ok, nothing special... very small place so expect a loud environment. They mostly have to go for yo their jack of seating available. There is lots of people that come and go, so they must be doing something right. Price is ok, not too expensive for a duck, pork ribs and chicken combo, their steam rice I don't recommend. This place is ok for a wick lunch.

Food: From the rice table steamer, you get rice + 2 or 3 entrees for approximately $10. Sometimes the food is just warm and i never see steam rising from the edges of the stainless steel steam table leading me to believe theres no steam underneath, so thats why the food is not hot, its just used as a holding container. Theres a wide variety and i like the veggies. I keep coming back but don’t like the lady. Service: The boss lady is in the wrong business. She should be selling used cars. She has no ethics and seems to get a “high” if she can talk you into buying something. She is relentless. She never stops talking. Tactic: Order what you want and say no to everything she tries to sell you. She will eventually give up. Do not let her sway you, be very firm and never be afraid to say “ NO” to Mrs. scammer. Example: “Hi! Long time no see! Why u never come eat here anymore? You so handsome. Do u have girlfriend? Why not? You handsome boy. Today we have special for you, duck only $18. You want? Me: no, i want rice with 3 items. Her: you so boring. You should live a little, try new foods. Me: no, rice and 3 items, fish, taro root+black fungus, and tofu. Her: ok, but next time you try duck okay? You see, its so stressful eating here. For $10 (they keep changing prices) u get rice +3 and a cup of complimentary hot tea or tap water and the tables are wide, new, and clean.

Worst customer service and bad duck! The owner will scream and yell at you and charge you double the price!! DO NOT COME STAY AWAY

Google
I had a great experience here. I stopped in because it smelled so good from the street. I ordered the Pork Belly and vegetables. It was easily the best pork belly I've had in my life, super crispy and flavorful. I got a whole meal for $11. The staff were super nice.

Yelp
my son and i have a tradition of doing chinese food for thanksgiving - decided to try 'yummy bbq kitchen' - or shaoweiju shaola restaurant in chinese - and i can now say i absolutely adore this place and we will definitely be back! the people working are kind and friendly, the food is fantastic - the roast duck is the best duck i've had in my life, and the singapore-style chow mein with shrimp we had was some of the best chow mein i've ever had as well. all the ingredients taste fresh and i'm sure they're local. the prices are very reasonable given the crazy economy we're dealing with these days. 5 stars easy, highly recommended. we'll be back soon!

Matt W.

Yelp
To be clear: I had a nice time chatting in Chinese with the lady at the counter. I can't fault the service. But I can fault the food. I wanted char siu (BBQ pork) so why not go to a place with BBQ in the name? Ordered, picked a veggie, watched them chop my pork. It was a tiny portion, which was actually a blessing in disguise given the dry, grizzled texture. It wasn't the worst char siu I've ever had but probably the worst in a Chinatown.

Yelp
Beef chow fun is my go-to when trying a Chinese restaurant, this one has good wok-hei antasty, okay pricing too I think the place got a bit of a refresh look and The workers are very nice as well, will be back and recommend a try!

Sherprina L.

Yelp
The chicken and duck here are very flavorful, prices are very reasonable as well. This is becoming my new fave BBQ place. I have yet to try noodle dishes they offer.

Linda L.

Yelp
My mom and I shop here once in while. Today is the second day of Lunar NY, most shops were closed. Came in around 10:30am, or it would be busy like other shops. My mom and I made a quick stop before heading home to do some more prayers. We purchase a whole roasted duck and a pound & half of roasted pork. Both were fresh cooked from the oven and it was volcano hot!! The service is always nice and fast. The guys there are always accommodating with what we want and don't want. Or if my mom wants extra things, they're nice and give us a discount. It's a really small space with limited tables if you want to order a rice plate and eat there.

Yelp
We rolled in here late to get some dinner takeout. It was around 5pm on Saturday and their duck was already sold out so we settled with charsiu and roasted pork. Everything was cooked perfectly and definitely solved my craving for roasted pork. Just a bit sad that I couldn't get the duck since my bf loves it. Seems like they change the veggie options as well since we got lotus root instead of bokchoy or other veggies in the photo. They only accept cash, Venmo or Zelle. Other than that, we were happy with the meal and will go back to try their duck.

Maggie H.

Yelp
Not an honest business. They told me to grab a drink from the fridge when I paid for food only to charge me $12 for the coconut water before I left.

Hailey C.

Yelp
Delicious lunch special - you can choose rice and three items or noodles and two items for $6! Are you kidding me?! 6 dollars for a meal in San Francisco. Unheard of. Even if they raise the price, it's still a great deal. You can pick from rice, noodles and two sides which include various protein and veggies. I got the braised beef and broccoli with fried noodles and it was tasty. The owners are really nice and speak Chinese and English!

Adam B.

Yelp
This place straddles the line between BBQ joint and restaurant. They have the typical roast meats, but they offer multiple permutations of meal options that use the BBQ meats. More than just your boring roast meat over white rice pairing. I'm especially a fan of their noodle soup with BBQ meat. Sweet & Sour Pork w/ Chow Mein: This kinda looked like something from Panda Express, but tasted much better. The pork chunks were bigger and very firm and nicely fried. If I was a betting man, I'd even suspect they twice-fried yesterday's crispy pork belly that didn't sell. Anyway, it all tasted great with the sauce and peppers and pineapple. Pro-tip, you can substitute the chow mein with white rice, which I think goes very nicely with the pork. Unfortunately, they wasted space with some green vegetable side dish. Would have much preferred if they just put more sweet & sour pork in that slot. BBQ Pork, Roast Pork with Rice Noodle Soup: First of all, these weren't rice noodles. They were more like the egg noodle used in wonton soup. But that's actually a plus in my book since I only like rice noodles in pho. Anyway, I absolutely love the combination of noodle soup and freshly cut BBQ meats. The soup broth and all the starch of the noodles really help cut the saltiness of the meats. Much better than munching the meat by itself or with a little rice. Best of all, the last few slurps are broth are full of flavor from the meat! Roast Duck w/ Wonton Noodle Soup: Another nice pairing of roast meat and noodle soup. The duck meat portion was smaller than the pork in my other soup, partly because there were fewer pieces but also because the duck had bones. But to compensate for that, there were six large wontons. So meaty, they were like pork meatballs with a light doughy wrapper around them. It was a bit of an effort to careful pick off the meat and skin from the bones. More concentration than I usually care to spend on soup. But it still tasted nice together. Unfortunately, not edamame as was seen in the photo.

Yelp
** The following review reflects my takeout experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** I was kinda wondering if this Yummy was related to Yummy Bakery on Jackson, also in Chinatown. Is there a Yummy dynasty that I'm not aware of and perhaps the basis of an Aaron Spelling family soap opera about power, greed, big shoulders pads in sequin gowns, and cat fights in a public fountain. OK, maybe I grew up on too much '80's TV because this compact spot looked like a more intimate family operation with chickens and ducks hanging in the window. I was actually lured by a photo of their $10 Salted Chicken. It was as close to steamed chicken I could get since it came with garlic ginger sauce. It was actually roasted and chopped up aggressively by (presumably) the husband (photo: https://bit.ly/2JQ0BoL). It was pretty tasty though my tongue sometimes ran into random bones. The wife (again, another presumption on my part) was quite social beneath her mask and tried to convince me to go for a Chinese doughnut. Tempted but decided to pass on the carbs. Alexis Carrington wouldn't have wolfed one either. FOOD - 4 stars...I likes me some salted chicken AMBIANCE - 4 stars...surprisingly sunny spot and kinda old-timey Chinatown SERVICE - 4 stars...nice but no need for a doughnut please TOTAL - 4 stars...the Yummy Dynasty...costumes by Nolan Miller RELATED - Exploring Chinatown? Yelp
Totally lives up to the name - Yummy BBQ. If you're looking for some delicious, well done Cantonese style BBQ items like roast pork and roast duck, look no further. Everything is really nicely balanced and the guy who chops up the meats doesn't do a half ass job! Unfortunately, we went and bought some of their fried pig skin from another place on Stockton - the ones here looked way better! They are a cash only institution and I didn't dine in; just got some items for home. Great prices, great flavor, and can't wait to go back for more yummy BBQ items :)

Yelp
So here due to a new app call TooGoodToGo. So Too Good To Go is a mobile application that connects customers to restaurants and stores that have unsold food surplus. Instead of a business just tossing the food in the garbage they sell it at a reduced price for less of a lost than just tossing in garbage. So I don't have any issues with food that isn't freshly made, just as long as isn't stale. I am all for reducing food waste. This place is so new that the building still says Fi The listing sound nice for $5.99 I was to get $18 worth of product, product I had no choice in but whatever they decided within their 2:15 - 2:45 PM.

Hannah C.

Yelp
Great food, nice people! The service was ready fast, and the meal was fantastic. Glad I went.

Yelp
I was in Chinatown for the first time in a very, very long time the other day. As I walked to a dim sum place next door, I couldn't help but notice the duck just hanging off the rack here. I love duck, especially Chinese style roast duck. I ordered a whole duck and a pound of their BBQ pork, and I am so thankful for it. The owner told me that I would love the freshness, and when I got home, they weren't kidding. It was fresher than other Chinese supermarkets I've been to, but the real winner was the lack of grease, oil, and fat. I live in the East Bay, and it's hard to find a place like this that is Chinatown style. The only place I can find it is a supermarket, and I never liked how greasy and oily their food was. I remember when I got to the bottom of this takeout box, there weren't any pools of oil, grease, or fat. I am a huge fan of Yummy BBQ for that. They do take Venmo or cash, just so anyone who stops by knows how to pay. Maybe it's because I came after their busy hours, but the noise level was still normal, room conversation level. It's not too loud, and I like this place. I can't wait to find myself back here for my next round of duck.

Otis M.

Yelp
There's a lot of good bbq in Chinatown, but if you're getting budget dim sum at Dim Sum Bistro next door, you could do worse than hit this place up. I grabbed half a duck for $11, and it met my expectations. Not quite as much tea smoke as I like but they made it up with the accompanying sauces: a dark one which was actual pan juices, not soy with extra salt, and a lighter citrus-y one that made me wonder if this is what that terrible "duck sauce" at Chinese-American takeout places is trying to imitate. There's also an organic duck for $2 more per half; whole ducks are currently $20 and $23 respectively. And there are quite a few combo dishes, I notice from other reviews; I'll be back to try those. Unless I'm mistaken, Yummy BBQ used to be Yummy Dim Sum with one of the nicest big chicken buns in town. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

Ishikawa M.

Yelp
Bought some big buns($3 each) early afternoon and trying to eat same evening, outside was okay but inside was spoiled. Never go there again..

Melinda L.

Yelp
There's usually not a whole lot to say about quickie Chinese food places, because they just fulfill your hunger or whatever Dim Sum cravings you may have. But man, I never thought I could be pleasantly surprised by some old school Cantonese-style food for under 10 bucks! For some reason, while I was in the area, I had a deep craving for some Spare Ribs with Bok Choy and Cantonese-style soup that includes the best pieces of roasted duck. Yeah, I ordered both on two different visits and they were so perfect and just brought me back to feeling like home. The counter staff here are real chill here and they speak suprisingly good English, along with Cantonese, and Mandarin. So don't be shy when you order, 'cause they'll understand you. I had a nice lady at the counter who was just the kindest. Like a long lost Aunt! But, like I said, the staff here are all chill. You can also dine here, as there are some tables for patrons. But, they can get occupied fast. I think this place does only cash, but that's all I use when I'm in Chinatown anyway. So bring cash! I will be returning here!

Phebe T.

Yelp
Review of service: they WILL try to scam you if you don't appear to speak their language. We ordered half a duck, despite her telling me a whole duck is a better deal (we are only 2 people and did purchase 1/2 lb. of roast pork too). She talked to the butcher in Canto (I speak mandarin only) and they chose the skinniest duck with a thin layer of meat. I said something and she said "it's organic, you will taste the organic". I didn't fight it. Then she realized I wasn't stupid and tried to sweet talk her way out of her guilt. Showed me the pork I got, told me it's hot, let me cut a hole in the box for you if you're not going to eat it now.... NAH BITCH, next time I'm walking out you do this to me. She even told me to "come back". Review of food: TBD

Stuffs O.

Yelp
WARNING: scammers! ALWAYS check ur itemized receipt! The lady just add 20% for each item. When we confronted her, she tried to find excuses (tax, there's no such thing as 20% tax), then she said: service fee (what service fee?!) and she added another $5 ti the total bill (she said for eating in!). Then she said the menu prices r old prices (wtf?! The new prices r written all over the wall AND in the menu list!). Also, the guy basically gave all the bone parts for our duck over rice item. No meat at all! Terrible food, cheaters, scammers!! We refused to pay the presented bill. We paid the amount listed for our items. Had she tried to argue, we were not budging and ready to go to court. Just avoid this place.

Judy H.

Yelp
It's a pretty long trek from my office to here... but the MealPal selection was fairly lacking today so I decided I was finally going to try this place and get some beef chow fun. Walked the 10 minutes to the busy street of Broadway and picked up my order. Fairly typical Chinatown fair... roasted meats hanging by the window, trays of ready to eat items being kept warm at the counter. Items are extremely cheap, but holy hell are the portions GIGANTIC. My beef chow fun was honestly enough to feed a family of 4. It's fairly oily, but for beef chow fun that's not exactly a bad thing as when it gets dry, the noodles stick together and aren't edible. It made the item reheat really well too, but... again, oily. It tasted pretty good, not too salty, the beef was tender. Definitely would come back if I was craving cheap Chinese food. The low prices and large portions makes this place a worthy hike.

Rose M.

Yelp
Cash only. Inexpensive. Fast service. The marinated chicken was perfectly flavorful. The beef was very tender and juicy.

Albert W.

Yelp
The food quality itself is pretty good, one of the better Chinese BBQ places in the area. However, they do try to kinda cheap out and scam you. Got the two BBQ rice plate, they went super light on the duck and a bit more on the pork which is way cheaper. Probably stick with one item, if you're going with one of the more expensive items.

Rachel K.

Yelp
I don't normally leave yelp reviews but the food and service at Yummy BBQ Kitchen compelled me to come here and talk this place up. If you're looking for a balanced, delicious AND affordable meal, Yummy BBQ Kitchen is definitely the place to go. Also, the restaurant owner is SO kind and she went above and beyond to make me feel well-cared for. We event spent some time chatting and she offered to reheat my food for me when it got cold! I will forever remember this special lunch-- I had roasted duck with fried rice and veggies (I will not be forgetting this meal anytime soon). Thank you for this nourishing experience!

Anna H.

Yelp
Don't let the main dishes fool you - they have "Chung-Fun" too which are steam rice crepe rolls with meat or veggies inside. This place is a lot better than DimSum Bistro.

Special O.

Yelp
quick and fresh roast duck! they have 3 tables that sit a total of 20 chairs. and super affordable !

Eeloon T.

Yelp
small, doesn't seem famous restaurant. But the roasted duck and bbq pork (char siew) rice is delicious! tender, smells and tastes great. will definitely go back

Van L.

Yelp
Great reat place for lunch in chinatown, food was fresh and yummy taste. I ordered sweet&sour pork over rice. not regret for it. aslo do not forget to try out the pumpkin bun. love the service and people here.

Kelly K.

Yelp
What a great spot! Came here yesterday based on a friend's rec and got a half duck and a little bit of bbq pork. Was relatively quiet late Saturday afternoon but with a constant smattering of customers popping in. The owners/staff were nice and helpful. The duck was juicy, meaty, and flavorful and the bbq pork was also tasty. All for very reasonable prices. Will be back!

Edwin T.

Yelp
I come here quite often, and usually come here to get the BBQ meat items (the best thing here). Another popular item the locals like to get is the Plain Bun if you're looking for a quick snack. And for variety I personally like to get the "3 items and 1 soup". It's incredibly affordable and tastes great! Just remember to tell them to pop it in the microwave if it happens to be late in the afternoon, because it does tend to get cold easily. Other than that you won't find a better place in Chinatown!

Jon L.

Yelp
This is the former Mon Kiang and it's pretty much the same on the inside. It's a go-to for lazy saturday take-out lunch. $3.80 for rice and 3 dishes. It's such a big packet I normally have enough for lunch and a "snack" later on. They also have dim sum and roasted meats. Out of all the cheap dim sum places that populate chinatown, they are actually one of the best. It's consistently warm and the shrimp in the siu-mai and har-gow is actually quite fresh considering it's 3 for $1.40. The real star here however is this one lady behind the counter whom I fondly regard as an adopted aunty. She never fails to make sure I have enough to eat and that I am eating well at that. Makes me smile just thinking of it.

Joimil V.

Yelp
First time with the family in San Francisco and found this place while walking Chinatown. Great good and great prices. Only negative is that they need to learn English to communicate better the different food that they have.

Michelle L.

Yelp
they meant it when the name says Yummy BBQ. Service was quick and easy, there was a very cute sweet little elderly lady that i adore!!! the food here was marinated just right not too salty and not too plain! 100% recommend this place to everyone. the rib rice plate was what i got and it was not a let down!

Judy G.

Yelp
This place on Broadway and Stockton has changed ownership and the quality has dropped.

Sasuke N.

Yelp
2 stars because it's cheap, but food quality is pretty bad. Siew Mai (pork dumpling) very subpar, doesn't taste like typical restaurant siew mai bc the meat is questionable (is it real meat or is it fake like low quality spam-like "meat"?) Porridge also subpar... very little pork or thousand year old eggs, and the rice quality and flavor also lacking. Might come back to try the 3 dishes over rice by the counter, but def not coming back for dim sum or porridge.

Wei L.

Yelp
Amazing authentic Chinese barbecue food for low prices. The place provides various food choices with fresh and unique tastes.

Huy V.

Yelp
Not a Cantonese speaker so "lunch combination" came out to be $5.25. It comes with rice and 3 options that you can point at and nod at to choose. I chose some grilled chicken, broccoli and a fish soft tofu medley. I thought it was just tofu, but SF surprise there was fish too. Overall, I thought it was a really good value and yummy, at least on this particular day. I've been here on one other occasion and I liked this time better. Maybe it was more my mood than this place, but that's hard to say. It is definitely cheap and good enough for a return visit sometime in the future. Not a date place. Basically everything in the area is a hole in the wall depending on your level of fancy, so yeah. Casual, not good for kids.

Kyle G.

Yelp
I got a rice box with barbecue pork and vegetables which was cheap, delicious, and filling. 10/10 would recommend

Peter T.

Yelp
My favorite (and cheapest) chinese restaurant in the city! I ate here 4-5 times a week between 2011-2012 and it really reminds me of my mom's cooking. If you didn't live in a fobby Cantonese household then you don't get it. This is the stuff you see on the travel tv shows and what the Chinatown locals eat. Don't let the dirty floor and sticky tables scare you off, take it to go and eat it at Washington square park. Their food is different everyday but you get a potpourri of wtf deliciousness. No sweet and sour chicken here. 3 items plus rice for $3.75 and the portions are huge. What I'm talking about... Salted Fish Pork Cakes Steamed spare ribs with fermented black beans and chili pepper 4 congees on tap but my favorite is lean pork and century egg ($1.50 Huge bowl) Steamed ground pork with salted duck egg Winter melon soup Chinese broccoli with Oyster sauce Chicken in soy sauce Steamed fish Chinese steamed eggs lots of edible feet... chicken, duck, and pig etc.... For the price and what you get this is definitely 5 stars. This place has never given me diarrhea...I think...YOLO

Phalla C.

Yelp
Yummy Chinese custom food and the owner is very friendly. I recommend everyone to try at there.

Jamie L.

Yelp
Amazing chinese kbbq! Very authentic and delicious. Would recommend to anyone looking for something affordable and yummy.

Gloria H.

Yelp
4 stars for bringing back the various porridges! For $1.50, it's a steal! Their porridge is thick and flavorful. Our favorite (my mom's too) is the salted pork with pork stomach, delicious! They also have: watercress w/ duck gizzard, salted pork w/ thousand year egg and roasted pork bone w/ peanut. Their dim sums are disappointing. First, it's not hot. We tried the chiu chow dumpling (hubby's favorite) and it was just ok. The shrimp dumpling was not good at all. The beef noodle roll is ok, not much flavor. One item I'm looking forward to try is the pig intestines w/ pickled mustard green. It looks mighty promising.

D D.

Yelp
Easily my favorite cheap spot in Chinatown. They have 5 types of porridge; get the pork stomach one because it's awesome. It's the one in the back row on the left. The bbq pork is good, the siu mai is good, everything is good. I had lunch here last week; porridge, 3 siu mai, and a chicken potato curry for only $4.30!

Patricia M.

Yelp
Luv this place. Priced very reasonably! Counter service was good and food was fresh and tasty !!

C C.

Yelp
Of all the dingy Chinese places to go to in Chinatown, this has to be one of the best values: a gigantic plate of rice, with one protein and two veg sides plus the requisite cup of tea. The food was tasty, not too greasy and definitely fit the objective of a cheap lunch. I found this place by wandering down the street looking for a Chinese restaurant that had locals in it rather than tourists. That always seems to work for me. I didn't get any of the dim sum as it seemed that no one was touching the giant steam baskets while I was waiting in line. "Shu mai, unlike wine does not get better as it ages." That's an old Chinese saying. Look it up.

Stephanie Y.

Yelp
This location is definitely away from the tourist area of SF Chinatown. Here, i can here people yelling in canto and mandarin. I got the soy sauce chicken for dinner that night. The chicken was tender and heated up well in the oven. I'd say, for less than $5, it's a steal. If you're stuck on what to make for dinner, just get some chinese deli take out and make rice! Everyone enjoys a tasty and fast dinner at home.

Gigi T.

Yelp
For $3.50, you can create your own lunch box with 3 items. $.30 extra for take out. This place is not bad. Not as greasy as the other ~$3 bucks lunch box places. Portion is huge, enough for at least 2 meals. A little more selections compare to other places too! Today, I tried their little fried fishes, Chinese squash, and scramble eggs with bbq pork & misc meats.... Little fried fishes are crunchy and pretty darn tasty! This place is nothing spectacular, but for lunch under $4, it's pretty awesome. I usually go to $3 lunch box places when I have no cravings for any food, and just wanna fill my tum. And Chinese Homecooking does just that.

Bryan D.

Yelp
I would stop by here early on Sunday's to pick up dim sum for coworkers and myself. Funny enough, it's one of the only shops open around 6 however it's one of the best places for inexpensive, delicious, and rather large pieces of dim sum. I'd go in and order 20 to 40 bucks worth of the stuff which fed 6 guys with massive appetites! All the guys were asking where I bought it because of how much they loved it, and not only would it be enough for breakfast but it also became our lunch lol. This is now my new go to spot. After trying good luck dim sum on Clement, this is a much better option because of bang for the buck. Parking still sucks but ya can't win em all.

Candy S.

Yelp
love this place in chinatown . delicious BBQ food for low prices, will come back again.
