That said, my rating for Yummy Grill & Sushi, most accurately, should be a -5.
Ok, so bear with me because some of this you're not going to believe. I went out with my wife, her sister and her sister's husband on Saturday 12/30 around 3pm for some sushi at a place we've never been to before. We were seated and the waiter (Caucasian with light brown/dirty blonde hair in a ponytail) took our drink order. He only gave us 3 straws and two sets of chopsticks ... for four people. Not a big deal. Minor oversight I figured. We ordered and before our order came out there was a tablet next to our table near the floor and he kneeled down to address it because it was making a beeping sound. I believe it was an order system for food pickup & delivery. My wife heard him say when he was at the tablet, "These assholes, I'm gonna put them on hold for an hour". I didn't actually hear what he said at the time. She told me later.
So I asked for another straw for my drink and two more sets of chopsticks and a lemon for my iced tea and for wasabi & ginger which really should have been on the table initially too. Our order came out and later he gave us the straw and chopsticks but by this time I was getting a vibe of arrogance with an attitude. Our initial appetizer of edamame was on the edge of the table after we were done with it with the shells in the bowl and the paper from the straws and chopsticks and sweetener were all there too and each time he came by he didn't bother to take it away. Also, since he didn't provide the small dishes for the soy sauce that is customary at literally every sushi restaurant I've ever been at, my wife and her sister used the small dishes they were given for the appetizer (again two plates for four people?!?). I began to mention it seemed like this guy wasn't really good at his job and seemed like he was maybe just trained, very poorly. So with those dishes now being used for soy sauce for them and my sushi roll sitting in front of me, my wife asked if we could have another small dish for soy sauce. He said sure and walked away. So I waited ... he went to another table, back to the kitchen, to another table, back to the kitchen. On his way out from the kitchen I asked him for the small plate and he said it would be a few minutes. I saw there was a cart he was literally standing next to that had the plate I was requesting and I incredulously asked "A few minutes?!?". He said, "yeah" and I pointed and said, "They are right there!". And I kid you not he said, "Then why don't you go get it yourself?". I was like, "Seriously?!?". So he went to the cart, picked up the dish and actually threw it at our table, like from a distance, through the air! I said, "Really?!? You're just going to throw it at us?!?". And he took another one and tossed it through the air at our table and it landed in my brother-in-law's chicken teriyaki entree. We were all just shell-shocked! This guy completely snapped and started cussing at us. We all got up to leave and he was like, "Go ahead f#cking leave". Then he went to the front to hide behind the tall host station and I tried to tell him how bad the service was and he just mocked me in gibberish like a 3 year old. Then he said, "Why don't you suck a d@ck!". He said, "Let's go outside" to fight. Overall despite the outrageous, over-the-top behavior of this person I remained fairly calm and on the way out he said, "Yeah, get out fat ass!".
I'm 53 years old, I've been to so many restaurants in my life not just in the United States but around the world when I was in the Navy and on personal trips as well which I only mention for perspective and this is hands down the absolute worst experience I have ever had with any business for any reason in my entire life.
The last thing I told him before I left was, "You should be fired!" and his response, with an arrogant smirk was, "It's not gonna happen".
The place wasn't that busy and even if you feel you are understaffed maybe doing your job right the first time when you bring the correct items and the correct amount of items you wouldn't need to return as many times to fix your mistakes. In the end there is never an excuse for this type of behavior and I truly hope management or the owner addresses this ridiculous situation ASAP.
We still wanted to have something to eat so we went to a place close by that had a "revolving" sushi service. The waitress couldn't have been more outgoing and friendly and before I knew it four sets of chopsticks, straws and soy sauce bowls were on the table with ginger & wasabi all ready without having to ask. The service was quick, the sushi was fresh and delicious and the price was fantastic! Why can't Yummy Grill & Sushi seem to figure this out?
