The staff here are on the top of their game! Present and knowledgable, the service was excellent and top speed. Entrees were about $15-25 depending on the dish and are well worth the price point with high quality ingredients and generous portions. I ordered the House Style Chicken Clay Pot with a side of white rice, and needless to say, I was pleased with my choice. With a variety of dishes and flavors, we are already planning our next visit!

UPDATED REVIEW - 4/6/25 We hadn't been here in a while, so we decided to go here after our movie. Love the great customer service, they were always coming by and checking in on us. There where's some cool stuff They brought by the table to see if we wanted anything. On a rolling cart. Love the look of the restaurant itself, has the asain vibe going. Our food came out hot and quickly. We are glad we stopped here for some food was a nice change. Always amazing food. .. never disappointed....a must try in Gainesville

Google
I was disappointed with my experience at Yummy House in Gainesville. The dim sum did not taste fresh and seemed like it came from pre-packaged food, lacking the authentic flavor I was hoping for. Additionally, the service was underwhelming; the lady server was unfriendly and had a rude demeanor, which made the overall experience less enjoyable. I expected better service and food quality

Google
This is one of the best restaurants in Gainesville! Each dish portion is big enough to share so this makes it a great restaurant to try with a group of friends. Word of warning one soup will feed like 5-8 people! Anything on the menu made with their black bean sauce will be delicious. This is one of their signature sauces. We had the shrimp and scallops with mushrooms in the black bean sauce and it did not disappoint! The House Rice is also a favorite of ours. Get a group of friends and enjoy trying new things!

Unfortunately, the food quality at this location has noticeably declined. One of the dumplings we ordered arrived undercooked-raw and mushy in the center, which was really disappointing. Overall, the flavors weren’t as fresh or well-prepared as we’ve experienced at other locations. Service was average, and the atmosphere felt a bit rushed, which didn’t help the experience. If you’re craving dumplings, I’d recommend trying one of their other locations elsewhere in Florida- this one just didn’t make the cut for me.

A Gainesville staple. Food is always so good and there’s always so much. The Dim sum is such a classic. Amazing customer service from Roxanne!

Google
It really is yummy! We went during dim sum time, where I planned to get a dish off the menu because I thought I didn’t like dim sum. Surprise! I chose the shrimp sticky rice and really liked it, as well as the shrimp dumplings.

Google
The portions are very good for the prices. This was the best chinese food ive ever had honestly. I love they dont put onions in the fried rice- usually a special request is required. The orange chicken was also the best ive ever had.

Yelp
Amazing Chinese food - DIM SUM !!!! Service perhaps a little over-attentive Ambiance approaching that of the big Chinese restaurants that I have visited on Hong Kong Sadly, no Dim Sum carts at dinner, but an informative menu with pictures descriptions and prices of the Dim Sum dishes Hong Kong roasted duck was a huge portion and one of the kitchen specialty dim sum dishes , all priced at $12.99 If you know this strain of Cantonese cuisine, you will not be disappointed

Yelp
I literally love yummy house dim sum. Fav pick me up / treat for anything. The service is good and my back grows a little bigger every time I get dim sum here.

Yelp
Best dim sum in Gainesville. Yummy House is not a large sized dim sum restaurant like the ones you'd find in a large metropolitan city like NYC, LA, Seattle, or Chicago but for its size and location it does an impressive job with its variety of dim sum dishes. If you have not tried their dim sum, go and try it. Dim sum is traditional served during breakfast and lunch hours but now many restaurants serve it throughout the day. Dim sum is made up of small plates of steamed and fried dumplings, buns, and snacks served with tea. There is a large variety to chose from, and the ones I have tried from Yummy House: har gow, siu mai, sticky rice lotus leaf wrap, turnip cake, soup dumplings, braised chicken feet, pork buns, steamed stuff tofu skin rolls, egg custard tarts and egg custard buns, steamed black beef tripes, steamed shrimp balls, fried shrimp balls, shrimp rice noodle rolls, beef noodle rolls, roast pork puffs, shrimp chives, deep fried taro cake/puffs, peppers stuffed with shrimp, sesame balls, and I am sure I am forgetting some. For the past 10 years, Yummy House is where I go when I am craving dim sum and am in Gainesville. I am headed there today which made me realize that I'd never left a Yelp review of Yummy House Gainesville. They have other locations in Ocala and Tampa. I have only been to the Gainesville location.

Yelp
Food is great, some of my favorite Chinese food. Portions are massive. I'd probably order one dish for me in the future.

Yelp
I finally got a chance to try Yummy House for some takeout on a Monday afternoon. Even around lunchtime on a weekday the inside of the restaurant was packed. Picking up takeout was pretty easy, just enter and go immediately to the cash register at the end of the bar to pay. I ordered the salt and pepper calamari and the lunch special Spicy Yummy Chicken (crispy chicken stir fried with asparagus and fresh mushrooms in their spicy yummy sauce). The calamari were unique, mostly because they were tossed in Yummy House's famous salt and pepper mix (fresh green onions, cilantro, roasted garlic and minced chili). The portion was massive for an appetizer, leaving plenty leftover for another meal. The Spicy Yummy Chicken was good, although I would say it was nothing mind-blowing that I would immediately need to order again. Overall I was impressed with all different options on the menu, giving me plenty of reasons to check out Yummy House again soon.

Yelp
Excellent dim sum. You can order from the menu or choose from the carts. Our favorites include the taro puffs, shu mai, har gow, sticky rice in lotus leaves, sesame balls and their delicious crab balls. The dim sum are huge so try not to over order or you'll be taking a box home. Great service and fairly priced for the great quality and ingredients.

Yelp
One of the very best Chinese restaurants I've ever eaten at....certainly outside of NYC and San Francisco. Authentic, expertly prepared and served. Lots of flavor, correct texture. Their dim sum is fantastic. Don't miss out.

Yelp
We went for Dim Sum and they had the carts out, which was great. And the food was very fresh. I usually go to the two Yummy Houses in Tampa, but was up here visiting a friend...yeah ! So we decided to try this YH too. We did get shumai both for lunch and to take home for later ( My Favorite ) Shanghai dumplings, Hong Kong sticky rice ( My 2nd fav) and an order of Salt & Pepper fried chicken wings......I would have given 5 stars but for the fact that it was freezing in the restaurant and had to go outside to warm up then come back in to continue lunch....and also by the time the wings came out of the kitchen we had finished our Dim Sum, had everything packed for takeout and we just took the wings to-go. The wings btw were smaller and kinda over cooked.....the wings in the South Tampa YH were always big and juicy It wasn't very busy and it was before 2 pm

Yelp
I have been to Yummy House a number of times over the years, and frankly it is now falling into the category of restaurants that I have labeled "Only if invited". This is kind of sad, because in the beginning (and I am talking about when they were over on Newberry Road) they were so good! The one dish that I have always loved hasn't changed, and is still just as good now as it was back then: The Salt and Pepper Shrimp. I love this dish! They do it just right, and the pop you get when you bite into one of those shrimp is just perfect. Unfortunately, the rest has just declined over the years. My mom was just not satisfied with her dish, and mine wasn't much better. We probably should have just ordered two plates of the shrimp and some white rice and been done with it. Frankly, I have never really liked the new location. The old one had a happy atmosphere about it, even though it was a bit cramped. There was just a liveliness about it that was completely lost when the new location was opened. Today it is just this sterile dining area that feels kind of oppressive when you are eating. Sadly, there is no chance of going back to the old location... that ship has sailed. Can something be done? Perhaps, but I just don't see it happening.

Yelp
Usually when we stop through Gainesville en route to or from Orlando, we grab fast food. But we were a bit sick of unhealthy fast food so we decided to find some Asian food. My dad suggested Yummy House so we ordered takeout at the restaurant. And PHEW the wait was FOREVER. I do prefer my food cooked up fresh for sure... but sheez. We ordered 3 dishes that we hoped would be relatively easy to munch on while en route home in the car: a house fried rice, a beef chow fun and a braised tofu dish. Not the best Chinese food I've ever had - seeing beef chow fun on the menu I thought it would be a little more authentic but everything tasted like typical Chinese takeout. I would say, coming from Atlanta, I'm pretty disappointed but I'm sure it's not bad for a Chinese restaurant in Gainesville.

Yelp
I ordered my last meal there today. The Mongolian Beef was all onion and very little beef. They forgot the mushrooms in my wife's dish, and there was a woman at the register there that refused to serve me for 5 minutes until she walked in back and a young lady then gave me my takeout order. This restaurant is not what it once was, and I won't make the mistake of dining at this establishment again.

Yelp
For someone who is craving Chinese dim sum, this is the place to go! One of the only places in Gainesville but it does the job. They classically have the push carts and let you pick from there. The food was so fresh and their servers were attentive. I enjoyed how open the place felt in its ambiance and the food definitely made me and my family happy.

Yelp
The best Chinese food in town ! We like hot & sour soup. Chicken cashews, Kung paw chicken & beaf are great choices ! It's always very quick served Decent place to dine in for Chinese in Gainesville
google avatar

Yelp
The name of this restaurant checks out! I had the Beef XO and it was outstanding! What a wonderful depth of flavor. I ate until I was full and had to make myself stop. My server was soo friendly and on point. This place is worth checking out.

Yelp
My favorite place for dim sum!! It's always really good and my favorite is the shu mai and pineapple buns. It's our go to place on weekends.

Yelp
It's been awhile since I have come back to this restaurant. No particular reason I just have eaten in Gainesville for a bit. I forgot how awesome this restaurant is. I got the honey walnut shrimp and the house fried rice. The rice portion is so large I shared it with my husband. Everything was sooo delicious. Plus there was so much we brought our food home and had it for lunch the next day. Everyone in our dinner party loved their food. The best and most authentic Asian restaurant in this area. I can't wait to visit again! Service was also excellent.
google avatar

Bonnie G.

Yelp
Be straight forward and make sure to point out any special requests you have and if ur not sure about something in menu- ask first!!! Other than that tho- never had a bad meal from there that i didn't end up falling in love with. On point & just such on point flavored food! but after a couple visits mistakes starting to be made- just a lack of communication between the waitress and us caused some disturbance of things pretty suddenly elevating the levels of intention in the air.
google avatar

Nishant G.

Yelp
Mediocre food. Decent service. I came here with high recommendations as the best Chinese food in Gainesville. Sad to say that it's not. Not even close. Skip this place and go to KungFuTea next door. They got great ramen.

Jim B.

Yelp
The service was excellent and attentive. BUT the management of this venue has made significant changes to the ingredients and recipes. For example the small mushrooms are no longer used in any items. So their egg drop soup now has NO mushrooms , a key ingredient to the flavor of that soup!! The House Fried Rice no longer has very many shrimp and did not taste right. I will not be back. And, if they made these changes to the Altamonte Springs restaurant, I won't be going there either.
google avatar

Roxell C.

Yelp
Food wasn't bad but we had better. The service was good and friendly. Not a bad spot, but I'm not from the area to see if there anything better from Gainesville. My favorite was the mini baked pork buns. The walnut shrimp was okay but not that sweet or flavorful.Good amount of walnuts though! Fried eggplant was okay, but I have had better.Other dishes we had were okay too.Just don't coke expecting to be wowed

Yelp
A friend d absolutely loves this place and it was her birthday so a group went. They were able to accommodate eight of us right away. The waitress did well with the different rapid fire requests being made. I had the seafood rice bowl with tofu. There was more tofu than seafood. It was good. I would probably order something different. I expected the rice to be crispy on the base of the steaming bowl. Everything was more moist like. A friend next to me ordered an appetizer with friend calamari and shrimp, she wasn't that enthralled with the flavor. I tried a piece and it was okay. I wouldn't order it though. The spring rolls were really hot and tasty. Everyone at the table enjoyed their food. I have been there in the past and have enjoyed the crispy rice bowl. This time it came out differently. I will be back next time I'm in the area to try something new. Enjoy!

Yelp
Overall 5/5 Food:5/5 sooooooooo good! All the dim sum they had were bigger than other places I've had dim sum, which made me think they were homemade. There was a specific dumpling that they served that was, I'm sure, homemade dumpling wrappers. I was there for the dim sum. I didn't order any entrees. For those that are adventurous, definitely try the chicken feet! Sooo good!!! I've also had the siu mai, har gow, sticky rice, fried shrimp balls, braised beef short ribs, eggplant with shrimp, bbq pork buns, pork dumplings, sticky rice shrimp balls, and probably some other stuff lol I had zero complaints about the food! Yummy House really lives up to its name. Service 5/5: always had my water filled and the cart came by often. They were also very prompt with any request. Setting: very nice and clean! Definitely a group type of place to eat.

Yelp
I absolutely love going to dim sum for lunch. I am a huge fan of the chive dumplings. My husband loves the pork buns and the pineapple pen is pictured here. Everything is reasonably priced and definitely great leftovers. Services super fast. Highly recommend.

Arindam S.

Yelp
The dim-sum lunch is a must-go for this place. Try all kinds of dumplings that your heart desires and try some of the pork backribs with the soup.

Yelp
Wiw! Excellent service, great selections, affable and helpful personnel. dim sum selection plentiful and fresh. beverages (water, tea and cokes) kept filled to the point you had to say 'no more please'. In addition to Dim Sum we also ordered a number of dishes off menu. Every one of them was enough for 2 or more! plentiful. Well prepared, very tasty and enjoyable. There were 8 of us and to the person we are all extremely pleased with guys choice of restaurants during our 4 days in Gainesville. Enough so that it was a highlight of our visit to the town!
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
A okay for chicken corn chowder soup lunch and shrimp dumplings. We came for lunch for the soup and the dim sum options but really there weren't many options for dim sum. I asked for sesame balls which they don't have. I have no idea how long the food has been hanging out in the dim sum cart but seems like it's been quite a while. That's a bit of a turn off. I'll stick with the Yummy House in Tampa on Kennedy. This was just ok!

Monique M.

Yelp
I picked up an order last night of fried rice, hot and sour soup, egg drop and spring rolls. $45.00 I don't know what going on in their kitchen, the food was terrible. Spring rolls had no vegetables. The soup was not broth but corn starch slushy and the fried rice was terrible. Just not up to standard. We took it back and turned around and used the 45.00 plus spent $40.00 more total of 85.00. Not much better! Will not be returning.

Yelp
I've been trying to support this restaurant since they came to Gainesville and were first located on Newberry Road next to the Waffle House. I will no longer give them any business. Food: Inconsistant. When it's good, it's very good. Very, very good. But it's a crap shoot if you have a good crew working. When it's not good it's (at best) mediocre and sometimes absolutely bad (and inedible). Salt content is all over the place... some nights overly salted, others you're grabbing the soy sauce to make it edible. Management: Horrid. Example... tonight, asked for tea. I had a party of 5, including a 4 year old. They charged the 4 year old $3 for hot tea (she had none). I asked why, since there is no price for tea anywhere on the menu, and they said it's the house rule. So, since I wanted hot tea, and including the 4 year old we were a party of 5, we were charged $14.95 for a single pot of tea. They would not remove her charge from the bill. If you are someone who's lucky, give it a shot. I gave them my final shot and won't go back. The Chinese choices in town are absolutely horrible. Bring me back to the 90's when we had some great choices all over the area,
google avatar

Yelp
Yummy house has great regional Chinese food. It is Cantonese so nothing is scaldingly spicy. You can always add chili oil to ramp it up. We love anything "salt and pepper" flavored but the salt and pepper calamari is our favorite. Dim sum is great at lunch time. Only place in Gainesville with the rolling carts. It's not quite as nice as the big city dim sum but still delicious.

John F.

Yelp
Was surprised on first visit. Great $10 lunch specials with good choices of meat and veggies. Hot tea included. Music was too loud at first but they turned it down. Will be back. Happy with the shrimp. Friend enjoyed sweet and sour chicken.
google avatar

Alexa Z.

Yelp
Delicious. Tons of food. Will definitely come again and again. Dim sum is only during lunch and definitely worth getting. However it's delicious anytime of day. The parking lot is small and occasionally chaotic but the food definitely makes it worth it. Staff is friendly and helpful in answering all of your dim sum questions.
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
Very average Chinese food. The chicken lo mein was literally chicken, a ton of egg noodles and onions. Nothing extra or special about it. No fortune cookies were given with the meal and it was not served in traditional Chinese Tupperware. It was okay but did not seem like the typical take out Chinese that I get.
google avatar

Yelp
You MUST give tips! My friend and I went to this place for lunch and it's not bad. During the checkout, my friend decided not to sign tips because the experience is not as good as the last time we came. However, a middle-aged lady came back to our table with receipt, and she pointed out the tips section and literally ASK us to sign the tips. My friend was so embarrassed but still signed 18% tips to her. I think this is so ridiculous that a server return with the receipt and ASK customers to sign tips with a angry face. PS: this picture was taken on 09/03, I found a piece of hair in my Lo Mein takeout from here, it's so disgusting!

Yelp
Love the food all around always consistently good, I love their duck reasonably priced very nice portions and lunch specials are really good overall service is excellent all servers help one another

Yelp
I can't recall a bad experience at Yummy House. The service has always been quick and the same goes for their online orders. Everything I've tried has been delicious, my favorite menu item being their salt and pepper calamari. They also have a pretty good lunch special for $9-$11 that comes with a well-sized entree and drink. From the lunch special I usually get the garlic fish. I've only experienced dim sum at a few restaurants, but I enjoy Yummy House's a lot and it seems like their dim sum is appropriately priced.

David L.

Yelp
Great variety and good service. Their chow fun is very good, though the second time I had it I was a little disappointed because it was not as well sauced as the first time a few months ago. My wife had the cashew shrimp and lived it both times. Came back for lunch the next day while my wife was having a procedure at Shands and got bbq spare ribs. They turnout out to be riiblets which are a pain to eat but were tasty none the less. Dumpling service at lunch was tempting too.

Lee Ida B.

Yelp
The hot and sour seafood soup was great! It came out steaming hot and just the right amount of spice for us. The house Lo Mein was delicious as well. We're coming back tomorrow to try the dim sun For lunch.

Yelp
I have very mixed feelings about Yummy House. I ultimately rate this restaurant a 4/5 because it is incredibly economical, and you get very generous portions for the price. The quality is hit or miss. The attached photos I provided include Wonton Soup, their Duck, and mixed Lo Mein. Their duck is absolutely incredible, and their wonton soup is great in quality. Their food generally tends to be a bit more authentic, and higher in quality. A friend of mine introduced me to this place who is Chinese American, and encouraged me to try their more authentic dishes. We've also tried their dim sum, which is incredible...although not pictured. I have also had some bad experiences where I've ordered their sweet and sour chicken, or more "Americanized" dishes and the quality was incredibly poor. Giving this restaurant a benefit of a doubt, I'd rate it a solid 4. I think if you try to order the more authentic dishes, you'll be fine. If you're looking for more Americanized dishes like Sweet and Sour Chicken or General Tso Chicken, go elsewhere.

Chaker F.

Yelp
Yummy house serves various Chinese dishes including dim sum, traditional Chinese food, and American-Chinese food. FOOD (3/5): If you are looking for good American Chinese food or dim sum, yummy house has many great options! However, the traditional Chinese dishes were lacking compared to several other establishments in town. Your rating of Yummy House will greatly depend on what you prefer to order and is not consistent across the board. ATMOSPHERE (4/5): Standard restaurant interior. Modern decor, multiple booths and table options for large groups.
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
Delicious food. We got the Chicken Fried Rice and the Kung Po Chicken. The only thing is that some of the rice stuck together which is typically fine, but it created a couple hard/undercooked pieces of rice. Overall, pretty good food and service for a college town!
google avatar

Sue J.

Yelp
Service was great, staff was attentive and fast. The food however was terrible, both chicken dishes were not good - bland, little sauce, tasted kinda odd. Vegetables in the dish were good but the chicken wasn't. We left hungry and went to Panera.
google avatar

Trang V.

Yelp
I was very impressed with the quality of the food and service here! We stopped by on a weekday right after they opened at 11am, were seated right away (but I heard that the weekends here is usually packed). Decor is lovely and traditional. Service was prompt and we got our food from the cart the waitress pushed around. Shrimp balls were juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside, the flavors were spot on. Chicken feet were a bit saltier than I normally like, a bit soggy but great flavors. Fried pork taro balls were my favorite, so delicious and fresh!! The rest of the dishes were great as well, prices are fair, cheaper than some of other dim sum places I've been to.
google avatar

Fannie L.

Yelp
The worst Ho Fun ever, super salty and mushy. Crab soup lacking flavors. Price on my receipt is a dollar more each dish than the one on the menu. Definitely won't be back.
google avatar

Triana L.

Yelp
Personally, I think this is a great place to find Asian cuisine. I've always loved dim sum and how you can occasionally be offered a large variety of dishes to share with a group of friends or family. It feels like Ike a meal at home. The taste and quality of the food is very good. It's not too heavy and not too light for me. For those of you who haven't gone before, it's definitely worth trying to experience Chinese cuisine in such a unique way. I love Yummy House, and honestly if I could, I'd eat here every day!
