The London Honey Toast Power Rankings - London - The Infatuation

"If you’re eating honey toast, we have to presume you have a sweet tooth, but the Yumtea version is for real sugar fiends. Balance does not exist here, it’s an all-out sugar crust fest with moist, deeply soaked bread. We’d like the bread to be a little more toasty and golden, though. Which is all to say, this Holborn bakery could feasibly dislodge or cause a filling. Do with that information what you will." - sinead cranna

Yumtea Holborn - Review - Holborn - London - The Infatuation

"‘I miss you very matcha’. Please note: this is not our attempt at mild, beige flirting but simply what’s written above the cartoon cake that will smile at you from Yumtea’s window as you walk up High Holborn. Sweetness, of both the punny compliment and Japanese patisserie variety are the priority here, and everyone who steps within three feet of its golden honey toast already knows it. Students and office workers who require a sugary life raft stop by for a matcha float, or to eye up the glass display counter of swirling, creamy fruit cakes with sponge so light it’s practically levitating. Try to nab one of the few stools—there’s something deeply medicinal about spending a lunch break eating chicken katsu-filled shokupan within the calming, dinky cafe. photo credit: Koray Firat photo credit: Koray Firat video credit: Rianne Shlebak photo credit: Koray Firat Pause Unmute Food Rundown Chicken Katsu Sando Sincere apologies to Kingsmill, but we simply can’t look at you the same after our fateful encounter with this light, milky shokupan. The chicken katsu itself could be thicker, but the smear of sweet curry sauce goes a treat with the milkiness of the bread. photo credit: Koray Firat Honey Toast Gorgeous and golden enough to be the break-out star of a St. Tropez instant bronzing lotion campaign, this honey toast is a proper sugar hit. It’s thicker than your average honey toast and you should seek out the particularly crispy caramelised spots around its edges. PlayMute video credit: Koray Firat Lemon Roll The looping sponge in this rolled cake doesn’t want to be sponge. It’s got its heart set on being a cloud and you know what, it’s doing a pretty great job. The air-light texture, pitch-perfect creaminess, and hum of citric lemon makes this perfect for anyone who falls in the “I’m just not a super sweet dessert person” camp. photo credit: Koray Firat" - Heidi Lauth Beasley

Last time i came i had a houjicha oat latte and it was soooo goood. Def gonna have it again. This time i ordered a matcha tiramisu latte iced and it was amazing. The matcha mixed so nicely with the cream. Thanks to Ja Yi who made it and Sue for being so nice in receiving my order and recommending me the drink (not sure if I heard their names properly). I'll order the sando next time :)

Wow love this place. Been twice to get pictures for my blog. The cakes are light and fluffy and not over sweet. I also tried the iced peach tea. Theres a high counter with stools inside. You can see them making cakes. A must visit for Japanese treats.

Such an amazing place!! I went 3 times this week already the matcha is genuinely good, I’m typically very picky. Perfect balance of sweet. Also had 2 of their cookies (chocolate and strawberry) and a matcha cake. All so fresh and yum! Sweet staff as well

Loved the strawberry matcha! So yummy and it can be prepared with plant base milk! The cake is lovely at first sight and the flavor is tasty. It really tastes like Japan/Korea

The café was super cute! There was a small bar-style seating area inside. I can’t remember exactly what I ordered, but it was a green tea drink with ice cream on top. I chose black sesame ice cream and it was sooo good! (I love ice cream.) The green tea itself wasn’t really my favorite, maybe because I’m not usually a big green tea person. But having both together actually worked really well.

Stumbled across this cute little shop with really great delicious cakes. Their japanese style cakes and matcha drinks were up to a good standard. The taro roll cake has really soft and spongy texture which I love. There's even real taro in the middle which you don't usually find! The strawberry shortcake was lovely too. I do prefer the texture of the roll cake over the shortcake. One of the good matcha and japanese cake shop I would highly recommend! I noticed that they have whole cake which you can pre-order too! Would definitely put this shop on my list if I need to order a whole cake for celebration in the future. I would definitely return to try more!
