"The above mentioned Yunnan Restaurant has relocated a few miles east, though it’s sometimes being referred to as Green Yunnan. Ownership has also changed and the restaurant is apparently again related to the Yunnan Restaurant on Garfield in Monterey Park, as the two restaurants again share a menu. There’s more, including a complicated on-again, off-again relationship between those two restaurants and the extended families, but this is confusing enough as is. Look for the combination of Yunnan and Sichuan dishes that have featured for years on the menus of the various restaurants under their many different names, along with their signature large selection of cold table items." - Jim Thurman

Google
I think this place deserves better ratings. The food is great. I do enjoy the pot stickers. They are perfectly crisped at the bottom and juicy on the inside. The place is clean, and our waitress gave us wonderful service. All in all a great dining experience with big portions for that price.

Google
There are not only rice noodles, but also many delicious dishes when friends gather for dinner. The most important thing is that the service of the waiters is very enthusiastic. This restaurant is very kid friendly.

Google
They have a lot of choices of foods. The most customers choose is the sea weed, looks simple but delicious. I try and get addicted 😂, every time go there, I never missed this one. The pig stomach and pork ear are good not too spicy. The pork head is too chewy for me and love the La ziji (spicy fried chicken) so yummy 😋😋. Highland recommend for the people that can eat spicy.

Google
The food you can get here is relatively acceptable by most people except for once, the pork was still frozen when served. Environment and service, despite not the best, still acceptable. Overall, this is a place where you can come and enjoy a dinner with friends or family!

Google
We dinner at this restaurant 3 times, the food so good especially fish soup with mustard green, fried pop corn chicken with mala chili.

Google
It’s decent. $15 for 3 items. Not my favorite chinese food but they taste fresh.

Google
Very rude people. Do not let my service dog in knowing I have medical needs!!! They looked at my dog like a disgusting thing!

Google
My friends and I were chased out for not giving a tip when the service was very normal. They didn't ask us if the food was great. They didn't refill our water. When my friend ordered in English, the waitress rolled her eyes. Then the same friend didn't get the tea that was ordered

Yelp
I underestimate how well done the majority of the hot dishes here are. The Spicy Boiled Fish is far more flavorful than the same dish at practically every other restaurant. It could be garlic, or MSG, but whatever it is works great. I like that it's not watery, but rather more saucey which goes well with rice. The Mapo Tofu is the most flavorful I've tried as well with the perfect balance of numbing, spicy, and other flavors. You really can't go wrong with any of the hot dishes. The cold dishes I feel could be tastier but they're adequate, while the cucumbers are quite a large chunk so it's not pleasant to bite.

Yelp
I ordered 3 different of rice noodles, a cold side dish, and salt and pepper fish fillet to go. But when the food arrived home, there was a huge wad of tissue inside the noodles. I almost threw up just looking at it--so disgusting. I threw all the food away and didn't dare to eat it.

Yelp
First time here - Great food and service ! We came with a group and ordered all kinds of dishes - 10/10 would recommend! We will be back :)

Yelp
1. Cold dish: you can choose all vegetarian, mix of non veggie/veggie, or all non-vegetarian. I chose bitter melon, spicy tofu and celery with tofu. They were all good, not to mention this contributed to my daily veggie intake . 2. Spicy two delicacy (shui zhu liang yang): you get to choose what 2 protein to add to your spicy "bowl", beef, pork, fish filet...etc., and i chose beef and fish filet. Man, it was delicious! 3. Spicy beef (yu xiang rou si): The restaurant is very generous with the pork strips. The dish is very tasty and good with rice. 4. San xian guo ba: i really don't know how to translate this and i can remember what the menu callwd it‍. In short, San xian = three seafood and guo ba = rice cake. This is a good dish and I don't see in a lot of restaurants. The dish came with squid, fish filet and shrimp. This actually had a lot of sauce and can be eaten as a soup . All the dishes I had were very good, very tasty.

Yelp
This restaurant is in a strip mall with many popular places and parking is always a challenge. There is street parking near by. We have only ever gotten the cold cuts here. We like them a lot. Sometimes they cause indigestion, but we still like them. You can get three items either meat or veggies for a set price. We usually get one of each. The veggies choices include: seaweed, two differ kinds of mushrooms, tofu, American celery, fungus, and cucumber. The meat choices include: intestines, pig ears, beef lung, beef tongue, chicken feet, and chicken gizzards. Some meat and veggie choices are spicy. The veggies go bad in 2-3 days, so eat them fast. We have never seen them crowded, so it is typically pretty quiet. The people who work here seem to be Mandarin mainlanders, so it helps to speak Chinese to order.

Yelp
I love this place! Huge menu and the cold dish selection at the front! Hehe. A bit of a language barrier but overall a great spot.

Emily C.

Yelp
Their house rise noodles is my top 1 from the menu! Very delicious and aesthetically pleasing! The aunties there are really nice and caring! Would definitely come back again!

Daniel L.

Yelp
One of my favorite spot for hot noodle soup. Their cold dishes, pig ear and pig tongue, are delicious.

Nelson H.

Yelp
Haven't been this branch located in Temple City area... ordered some snacks Yunnan foods for meal, the XLB - Xiao Long Bao steamed with vinegar and soy sauce for dipping and the mixed Chili oil tofu, pig ears and pork meats sliced. It's pretty spicy but not too much!! Everything was coming quick n efficient, XLB was just right on, some of it was leaking meat sauce... other than that, everything was tasty and Chili oil was really good!!!

Emily L.

Yelp
Great little spot for some grab and go cold dishes. I was really craving spicy pork ears so I found this place on Yelp. They have a variety of cold cut dishes some seaweed to pork gizzard and you can pick up to the three for a take out combo. They also have a small dining area where you can order hot food as well. I picked up a combo of spicy pork ear, pork kidneys, and beef shank& tendons. It definitely hit the spot, I was pleasantly surprised that my favorite was the kidney, it was tender and quite light and flavorful.

Yelp
Great service. The food was very tasty. The meat was very good. My husband enjoyed all the seafood too.. I Like the little buns with sweet sauce!!!

Clement G.

Yelp
Very delicious and authentic Yunan food, wonderful service. Not too noisy dining atmosphere.

Lex Z.

Yelp
This is the same one as Monterey Park. Prefer here coz not too crowded. Food quality and portion are good. Highly recommended.

Jill J.

Yelp
I picked up some side dishes from the window display and was impressed by the variety of delicious spicy options. They taste super authentic and while the pricing is a 19 dollars for three sides, they absolutely PACK the box to the brim. Can't wait to be back to try their restaurant menu, especially some rice noodles.

Uni C.

Yelp
Cold dish portion is so so so much smaller now. Very disappointing. Used to fill the entire box. Now it's only half a box.

Elena C.

Yelp
This place might not as good as the other branch, but it's still nice. The offer the same menu and same great service.

Jody D.

Yelp
Love the cold dishes! So many varieties! A few dishes a little bit on the saltier side. Their dumplings are great too!! Those frozen ones come convenient on a busy day when stocked up at home. Their stir fry dishes are very tasty too! One of my favorite places to go for cold dishes, actually the only one. The SG location is better in my opinion as compared to the MP original one. MP ones are super salty to my taste.

Joyce L.

Yelp
Service is great!!! Food was delicious!! Love the cold dishes like the cucumber, chicken feet, etc. the yunnan fried rice with beef jerky and egg was delicious as well as the pork blood and tofu with spicy soup base!! Place is good and casual

Richard J.

Yelp
The food was sooooo great! It's very authentic Yunnan food. We loved it so much! The service was great too and the dining hall was pretty large. You can order whatever starters you like at the front. We'll definitely go back again.

Simon W.

Yelp
Every dish at this location is super bland compared to their Monterey Park location Service is better tho (Monterey Park is a lot busier all the servers are rushing) Also very clean Personally I just prefer better food than pleasantries.

Clara C.

Yelp
This place is pretty good! Prices are decent. I came here for dinner. The cold dishes were amazing. I had some tripe, Mr & Mrs Smith, and some vinegar-y mushroom dish. They were all delicious! Szechuan style water boiled fish was good, but it could have been spicier. The fish portion was very generous. This was very "xia fan", meaning really good with eating a lot of rice. Fried intestines were good too. They ran out of pea leaves, so they suggested string beans. The beans weren't that good though. I think they tasted old or maybe they weren't fried well. The lamb with cumin was good. This dish came out more wet / saucy than I am used to. Still good though! All of this food fed five adults for $108-ish (with tax, no tip). I hope to be back to try more Yunan-style food!

Yelp
Surprising find of this Yunnan restaurant in San Gabriel. This restaurant specializes in round rice noodle soup. All noodle dishes made up of rice noodle and fillings. There are spicy ones and non spicy options. The house special rice noodle was what we had for lunch. The bowl was huge and we shared among three of us. The broth was clear and delicious. The noodle were soft and chewy. We also ordered the spicy beef rice noodle as well. Unlike the taiwanese version of the spicy beef noodle, the broth was not that spicy and the beef was more bland than the heavily marinated beef in the Taiwanese noodle. In addition to Yunnan style rice noodles, they also offer dumplings, potstickers and scallion pancakes. These are all good and tasty. I think the chef is from Northern China where the cuisine emphases spiciness and heavy sauce. The best dish we had was their sautéed egg plant with garlic. They don't use a lot of oil to cook the egg plant but the dish is very flavorful and tasty. The restaurant also offers ready made to go cold dishes that include vegetables and snack foods such chili oil pig ear, chicken feet, spicy beef and tripes. For three items, they can choose any of them on display and pay only$8.99. We also got a bag of frozen potsticker to go after lunch. The service was very good and our server was very friendly. She speaks both mandarin and Cantonese. The decor is more of old school as there is not much. Parking can be challenging as the 168 super market takes up most of the parking spaces.

Win M.

Yelp
Food is excellent. Although I cannot eat spicy food, both the lamb skewers and the fried chicken pieces ere really delicious once you have removed the spicy chilis. The dishes were left with the red chilis covering them. I especially appreciated that the lamb was it gamy. The vegetables were good and so was the cold dish of beef tripe and tof. Green onion pancakes were excellent.

Yelp
Stopped by since their to-go cold dishes looked great and the wait wasn't too long. The woman who was packing up the orders and handling checkout was running on low patience but she wasn't mean when I chose to speak with my hands instead of Mandarin lol. I got the pig ears, some type of heart/liver and marinated beef slices. All the dishes were packed to the brim but nothing leaked! For the price of about $14-$15 for 3-items containing meat in at least one choice, the price is not bad and this is a great option for a quick bite to pair with warm rice at home. Parking is ample, shared with other businesses. The restaurant only had one party when I went but it's a bit dimly lit so I think take-out would be ideal if you're shooting for ambience. Would definitely visit again to try their other cold dishes, I do wish some items were a bit saltier or less sweet but it's super small and overall, I would come whenever I have the chance.

Jeannie Q.

Yelp
Cold foods in the front is decent, appears to be fresh. However, one of the ladies in the front selling cold foods was very very rude, felt like it was an inconvenience for her to be working there or for us to be ordering. Beware of her attitude and lack of customer service.

Elison R.

Yelp
The price in this restaurants rises to sky-high after pandemic. Every dish went up to $19.95 the lowest, many others are $24, $32 and higher. The owner wants to take fully advantage to the pandemic. But the bathroom is dirty, and food taste is no good. That's why sometimes at 7:30pm Saturday the restaurant is empty. They are placing big advertisement in newspapers but is not really helpful. If they lower the price to a reasonable level and make the food taste better, they might be able to revive the business.

Yelp
Affordably priced regional Chinese cuisine with large portions. The restaurant was quite busy with native Chinese diners on a weekend afternoon. While they have the Yunnan province in their restaurant name and their noodle dishes are in the style of Yunnan cuisine, they have an extensive menu of dishes from other regions of southern China -- Sichuan/Chongqing and Hunan in particular. I ordered the small pot rice noodles (小锅米线), $10.99, and sliced pork belly with garlic chili sauce (蒜泥白肉), $12.99. Both dishes had much bigger portions than I expected from the price. The rice noodles were in a meaty, oily/fatty broth with hints of ginger. The soup had a noticeable tanginess to it, and it became a bit overwhelming the longer you ate it. The toppings were quite simple -- ground meat and leeks. The noodles weren't as chewy as I'd have liked. I tend to order the pork belly with garlic whenever I see it on a menu, and the one at Yunnan was okay. The pork was atop a bed of cucumber and bean sprouts and it was topped with an absolutely massive mound of chopped garlic. I was satisfied with it, though I do prefer thinner slices of the pork belly. The portions were definitely large for the price, but it does make it less amenable for solo dining. Even the rice noodles could serve two.

Yelp
I've walked by this restaurant countless times, but never actually set foot inside until I saw it being mentioned on the SGV Eats page - I'd been craving pig ears for awhile, so I knew I had to stop by and check out the cold dish items. They have two locations - one on Garfield in Monterey Park and this one in the 168 plaza by Sam Woo in Rosemead. Parking isn't too difficult if you avoid busy supermarket hours. I was pretty much in and out of the store in less than 5 minutes. Walked in and saw the selection of items. Price around $8-9 for a 3 item combo and maybe a dollar or so cheaper for 2 items. They have vegetarian and meat options. I really wanted to try their cucumber, but they had been out of that item for several days. I ended up choosing the seaweed, beef, and pig's ear. The lady who helped me packed a lot of food into the container - it was packed to the brim and the minute I got home, I eagerly dug into it. The items definitely hit the spot for my craving, but the pig's ear and beef were quite oily. No matter though because the pig's ear was tasty and chewy, an item I'd reorder again in the future. The beef was super salty and had to be paired with some rice. Seaweed was actually really refreshing and good - it's mixed with vinegar so it's more on the acidic side. This will get your appetite going if you're preparing to eat a main dish. Unfortunately I did find a piece of hair while eating out of the container and I'm pretty sure it wasn't my hair wedged inside the box - so that kind of killed my appetite.

Yelp
We were given hot tea as soon as we were seated. Waitresses were very attentive and would check to see if we needed more tea. Waitress helped pack our food to-go as well. Loved the dishes we ordered Definitely plan to order take-out from here as well. My favorite dish was the shredded pork with garlic sauce.

Ming L.

Yelp
Cold takeout meat combo box is $14+tax now. Prices increased about 25% in the last two years. Still tastes same good though.

Ryan L.

Yelp
Yunnan has very good spicy minced pork! I haven't ordered much else off the menu but I've ordered that dish a few times. Parking is in the 168 lot and can be difficult tho.

Stephanie D.

Yelp
High recommended. They serve the fresh, yummy and high quality food. The place is clean and the staff is very friendly.

Shirley C.

Yelp
This was my first time at this location. Their original location is in Monterey Park but this one was closer to me. I ordered dan dan noodles and a 3 cold dish combo of pig ears, beef, and tofu. They filled the container with the cold dishes to the brim and packaged the noodles neatly, separating the noodles and sauce. Everything was delicious! I had been craving thinly sliced spicy pig ears and this hit the spot. The dan dan noodles were al dente and the sauce it was a good balance of salty savory and a bit of tang. This is a great place to quickly grab food to eat on the go, especially with their wide assortment of cold dishes laid out. The service was excellent and they made sure to clarify my order with me since my Chinese isn't good. This will be a place I will come back to when I'm craving some quick and savory Chinese dishes.

Cyl C.

Yelp
Ordered here a week or so ago for the first time. I was excited for the pineapple fried rice and walnut shrimps when I saw these posted on the menus on the windows on the outside of the restaurant. My mom had them throw in a order of pork ribs as well. We did not have to wait too long for the food to be ready, but ended up going to the grocery store nearby to pick up a few things. We brought the food home to eat along side some food we had grabbed at another restaurant from the same plaza. The pineapple fried rice was pretty good, but wished there were more pineapple pieces sprewed around there. The walnut shrimp had a lite coating and slightly fried, so much healthier than what I am use to with the super deep fried lathered in sauce versions I've had hehe The pork ribs were good too, but hate big bones in the middle of the pieces. Overall, good selection of food.

Ruth Y.

Yelp
The waitress were so rude. One of the waitresses who served the cold dish was so impolite and aggressive that she spoke in a very mean tone. I have no idea what is the problem of her.

Fiona Z.

Yelp
Would definitely come here again for the tu dou si (stir-fried potatoes/土豆絲). If you're in a hurry, you can choose from their bar of ready-to-go items. 3 veggie options for $5.99 or 3 mixed veggies and meat for $7.99. The stir-fried potatoes were crunchy, vinegar-y, and cold. The mushrooms I got from the ready-to-go bar were also delicious. I would also come again for their pan-fried dumplings ($7.99). Service was a little scattered and hectic, but we didn't have to wait too long to get seated. Even my parents liked this place. This shares a plaza with 168 Market and Sam Woo BBQ, but surprisingly parking wasn't too hard to find.

Ayman S.

Yelp
I was hungry and I saw a lot of recommendations for this place so I decided to give it a try. The food was good the service was excellent the place is clean. If you like to try different Chinese food you should give it a try but try to tell them how spicy you like the food because if you don't say the plates show spicy it's very very spicy.

Victor D.

Yelp
Food is very oily and over favored not sure what they are trying to cover up. waitresses are not friendly and no eye contact it seems like they just want to get away from all the customers. Great place for people looking for heavily oil food.

Yi L.

Yelp
We have been there many times and the food are so good! It's very traditional Chinese restaurant that have variety of food to try! I recommend their rice noodles, fish and kong bao chicken! Also the side dishes at great too and you can choose 3 different kinds at a time. highly recommended!

Stephanie C.

Yelp
If you're looking for good yunnan noodle dishes, this is the place to go. They have two locations and I use to think that the Monterey Park location was better but recently, this location really stepped up their game. I always order one of the rice noodles with whichever soup (they are basically the same thing just with different toppings and sauces). Then I would pick some side dishes from the front of the restaurant. Because we always eat together, we would get a full veggie side dish and a meat side dish (they have different pricing for them). They are not the most English-friendly but their noodle menu have numbers. As for the side dishes, just point. Each box you can pick 2 or 3 and they will adjust the size of the portions. Make sure you are a fan of spicy, especially the numbing type of spice or your life would be miserable after this meal.

Catherine Y.

Yelp
Ordered 7 cold dishes to go, including celery leaves, radish and woodears, seaweed, pig ears, spicy beef slices, bean curd and beef tendon, and green bean jelly, each one was excellent. Portions are generous and pricing reasonable. I often order similar cold dishes from the Northern Cafe but this place is better.

Yang Z.

Yelp
One of my favorite Chinese restaurants in SGV. The price and the portion are unbeatable. My fav is Yunnan special stir fried rice noodles. I think the noodles are generally good. the dry pot cauliflower is okish. The cold dish at the front is fresh n tasty.

Annie L.

Yelp
Overall the food was just okay. I'll probably come back to try their soup noodle dishes some other time but for now this review is strictly on their dim sum items. I ordered the green onion pancake, xiao long bao, and potstickers. Green Onion Pancake (5/5) - Super tasty and flavorful. Crispy yet chewy. Xiao Long Bao (3/5) - The bao skin was soft and doughy for some reason which was strange to me. It felt like it was undercooked. The meat was delicious and not bad. I noticed they put a little bit of green onion in their filling. Potsticker (3/5) - The potsticker wrap was thin and well cooked but the meat filling was way too salty.

Lilian Z.

Yelp
Solid food and affordable prices. My family ordered here for Chinese New Year through their website and was able to pick up within half an hour. Food: Overall tasty and authentic, but the dishes they marketed as spicy literally had no spice. Furthermore, the food tended to be on the oily and salty side, so definitely not for incredibly health conscious people. Prices: Average for the area, spend over 100 dollars for a family of 4 so it's definitely not cheap, but not exorbitantly priced either. Location: It is in the same plaza of a rather large supermarket, which is both a pro and cons. The good thing is that you can go shopping when waiting for your food, but the presence of the supermarket can make parking a bit of a nightmare in busy hours. Overall would give 3.5 stars (rounding up to 4 because of convenience).

Leslie L.

Yelp
The restaurant gave us a dish of stinky rotten shrimp that we discovered at home after ordering take out then made a big deal about it when we tried to get our money back because we called the next morning instead of the night before because food goes bad in 10 hours?! Expected an apology instead of a fight when you serve rotten food, but I guess that's expecting too much.

Bonnie Z.

Yelp
The lady in front was nice, but the waitress was rude and irritated as soon as we were seated. We were willing to wait an hour upon hearing their kitchen staff was not at full capacity but left due to poor attitude of the staff. The waitress was visibly glaring when we asked for a hot water and 2 ice waters. She said "tea or ice water" and impatiently cut us off with "how many ice waters?". I doubt the experience would be enjoyable and that the food would be worth being spoken to and served so rudely and hastily. I hope they improve their staff training. **note: they weren't packed. We were one of two tables there.

Chris Ariadne H.

Yelp
We love spicy food in general. We love the flavors and spice of this resturant. The price and the portion are really good. If you like sour and spicy, the Sour spicy fish is a must try. Also recommend the spicy fried chicken cubes. It has a lot of numbing spicy. From the cold dish bar, the beef slices, and shredded tofu are really good picks. 推薦他們的砂鍋酸菜魚很好吃,目前在加州吃到最喜歡的酸菜魚,夠酸、辣度剛好也有麻。價錢合理,份量也很足。

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Ordered Togo. The service was great. Friendly and efficient. Restaurant was clean. All the food was packed carefully. Portion was generous. I enjoyed all the dishes we ordered. Super flavorful and spicy. The price was unbeatable too. Favorite was the intestine dry pot. They offered a variety of cold dishes plates at the counter. Loved them.
