Google
Really adore this restaurant and visit regularly for the various rice noodle soups. The noodle soup only cost 💲 13.99 but offers high quality soup, tender beef or fish stew, and vegetables. I have tried tomato beef soup, spicy beef soup, mushroom soup, and they were all extremely delicious. Very good value! Highly recommended. I also love their dishes other than noodle soup. Many things are tasty such as lotus slides

Google
It took me a year before I could try this place, but I'm sure glad I did. Probably one of the more authentic tasting Chinese restaurants in the area. Save yourself a trip to Berkeley and just come to Yunnan Style. Also hits the spot if you like Vietnamese food like pho and bun.

Google
So good! Wonderful food, flavors, portions and kind people. The prices were really reasonable for what they offered - the soups are big. If you like hot, spicy and sour flavors and meat I recommend the 双椒肥牛米线 the rice noodle soup with red & green pepper and thin sliced beef.

Google
Super tasty. The quality is very good! The spicy rice noodle is also amazing. I want to order everyday. Hope the price is the same as in the menu.

The food is very good! Also the portions are nice :)

Google
Ordered take out for the first time. Pleasantly surprised that there wasn't tons of sugar added. The eggplant with pork was super good

Google
This restaurant is so good. Food is so cheap, and food portion is huge. Parking can be a pain to find. Highly recommend.

Google
The food here is pretty tasty, and the soup lives up to my expectations, boasting an authentic Chinese Yunnan style that I absolutely love. I opted for takeout, and while the flavors were on point, my only concern was the slightly high prices for a noodle restaurant. However, considering the delightful taste and the unique Yunnan-style flair, it's definitely worth a try.

Yelp
Ever since our favorite Chinese restaurant shut down, we've trying out local alternatives to find a new, regular replacement. Despite constantly driving past Yunnan Style Rice Noodle every time we drive down San Pablo, we never tried this place out until recently. We ordered to-go through Grubhub, and the order was ready and waiting for us timely when I arrived. Although I didn't dine in, the inside was very spacious with a lot of available tables to sit at. Ordered a Sliced Beef Fried Flat Noodle in Premier Soy Sauce and a Braised Eggplant with Grounded Pork. Both dishes came with a generous portion size, and were reasonably priced. The Braised Eggplant had a pleasantly surprising large amount of pork, rather than mostly eggplant as I would have guessed would be the case. The flat noodles, while good, weren't clumped together and could have been better prepared so they did not stick together in large globs. There is limited street parking directly in front of the restaurant, but plenty of street parking if you turn into the residential areas.

Yelp
This place has changed hands - again. The wontons in chili oil had an odd unpleasant taste in the filling, the twice cooked pork was flavorless, the sesame chicken had an orange gloppy sauce coating it. All in all we barely ate what we ordered and tossed the rest, Chinese food always gets a second life in our house , not this time. 3 or 4 owners ago this was our go to place, not any more, we'll see what the next incarnation brings.

Yelp
stopped by here for a comfort meal after coming from tahoe on the way back into SF. i read reviews about this spot being a hidden gem, so ofc i had to check it out! however, i feel that the food falls a bit flat to my expectations, as i pride in the south bay having superior chinese cuisine. the service was really lovely though, and the location is definitely considered hole in the wall. comments about the dishes ordered: - rice noodle in spicy soup w/beef: i liked the noodles, but the broth was too salty and oily. - chinese beef burrito: generous ratio of beef to scallion roll, great flavor. definitely the star of the spread - eggplant with galic sauce: yes spelled galic lolol was tasty but feels americanized bc it was a tad too sweet. - pig ear in chili oil: pretty authentic. spice has a kick to it and the ears are crunchy, as cartilage should be.

Steve K.

Yelp
No pictures this time. The Asian beef burrito was OK. The dumplings were OK. The pork bone, which I usually order was totally disgusting. I've never had it so bad. The pork seemed old and burnt. It's like they dumped the bottom of the pan scapes in it. I'm not sure if they deserve my business anymore.

Meredith M.

Yelp
Alas, the last time we ordered here, the sesame chicken was not what it once was. Suspiciously neon red mushy sauce of indeterminate flavor -- would not recommend! Green beans tasted of rancid oil. Bummed out, loved this place before.

Goku U.

Yelp
This is my go to schezwan restaurant. I've been back multiple times and have some dishes on rotation. All of my orders have been togo or delivery so no comment on the restaurant dining. Favorites are fried tofu, orange peel tofu, and the fried rice. Everything is cooked fresh and always hot.

Winston L.

Yelp
Poor experience overall. The Rice Noodle dishes taste decent but are overly greasy. Also, the preparation of the Rice Noodle dishes isn't consistent too--sometimes they put A LOT of Sichuan pepper oil (numbing spice). So your mouth and throat end up coated with oil and feel numb upon eating them. Surprisingly, the non-rice noodle dishes that we have gotten were actually bland. Also, the restaurant's heating doesn't work and as such it feels like a fridge. Will not come back

Amy M.

Yelp
Hidden gem in El Cerrito :)! It's on a less busy area of El Cerrito which makes parking doable and getting in for a small to medium party easy. Such a good portion size for the price too! Usually the noodle soups are good for about 2 servings. The food was flavorful and came out fast. Great place for a quick sit down meal with loved ones!

Hoyan L.

Yelp
Delicious hole in the wall serving piping hot bowls of Yunnan rice noodles and at reasonable prices. Ordered the pickled vegetable fish broth noodle and the tomato beef brisket noodles and both were very savory and satisfying. The sour vegetable fish broth is slightly numbing and just slightly sour which made it very appetizing to eat and there was also a good amount of fish fillets. The tomato beef brisket was another delicious broth full of tomato flavor and chunks of beef. The beef is a little tough but not bad. The rice noodles themselves are slippery and nicely chewy. Love the noodles! They have other Sichuan/Yunan entree dishes here too and they are all done well. I love their mapo tofu since it is one of the more authentic ones I've had, great taste of doubanjiang and numbing fragrance. Tried a few of their other stir fried dishes too and they are all great!

Salvatore C.

Yelp
For how many stars this place has I did not expect such an awful experience. Cons: -Harsh Florescent lighting -no music to drown out loud noise -manager screaming at the cooks -random people coming in to sell stuff -nobody checks on you or the food since you order through the phone -a cook came out and took a plate of ours randomly and didn't return with another one - food is overcooked -our green beans never came out of the kitchen 50 minutes later, and we were not compensated - it took 30 minutes for them to serve us freezer burnt and literally burnt scallion pancakes - front of house speaks no english wasn't able to understand most requests or complaints and LAUGHED IN MY FACE WHEN I POLITELY COMPLAINED - fried rice wasn't fried and it had a lot of hard overcooked rice bits -tea is from a store bought tea bag not leaves -portions are small and every plate is $20 - workers serving us are on their phones and have air pods in ignoring patrons Pros: - the Mongolian beef was tasty - even though it is cheap poster I enjoyed looking at the traditional wall art

Owl S.

Yelp
Tasty food and good portion! The service is good too! We will come back to support local business!

Jun J.

Yelp
I am a super fan of noodles, especially rice noodles. This is my go to place whenever I want some good, spicy and sour rice noodles with soup. I don't live close by anymore but still try to come here whenever I get a chance. The service is also fast and good.

Derrick V.

Yelp
Slice fish in tofu and pickled cabbage soup, so SPICY good! I've tried this dish many times but never had it with serrano chile and sichuan peppercorns. Wow, that added a nice layer of complexity that this dish sometimes missed. Usually it's just a one note sour soup. In all honesty this dish should come with a warning. Unexpected soup slurpers are in for a surprise haha

Legal D.

Yelp
Quite amazing quality and freshness... walked in tonight and it was an empty restaurant but the waitress was really nice. We also got braised pumpkin fried in salted egg yolk. All the rice noodles were good and their Szechuan dishes were also authentic

Mang Y.

Yelp
Rice Noodle in Pickled Cabbage Soup with tilapia (or was that swai) fillets was accented by hints of unexpected sichuan peppercorn numbness (but not overwhelmingly) accompanied by sour preserved vegetables, pepper, luncheon meat, wood ear mushroom in a very delectable soup base. The rice noodle was cooked just right. Chinese chive pockets above average, photogenic with thin crispy skin: tasted as good as they looked with well-prepared chive filling. Crispy pork ribs had strong notes of cumin, fried to a lovely crispness, tender pork under its cover: very delicious eaten together with the garlic, scallions, peanuts and jalapeno mixture underneath it but portion is not large. Excellent and prompt service. Very clean restroom.

Yelp
I'm giving this place 4 stars overall = 5 stars for the Yunnan Rice Noodle soup, three stars for the pork fried rice, and four stars for the sesame chicken. The milky looking soup broth is delicious and flavorful. I sipped a little before pouring it over the noodles and goodies. I got take out, so all of the goodies you add in the restaurant were already in the bowl, eg quail egg (yummy), slices of something that looked like Spam, etc.. I'm not a big fan of processed meat but it was tasty. I'd eat it again, happily. What surprised me is how bland the broth tasted once I poured it in the bowl. It comes with a lot of noodles, and they seemed to overwhelm the flavorful broth. Then I figured out why. You can't fit all of the broth at once in the to-go bowl. Once I ate some of the noodles, I added the rest of the broth, and the flavorful broth was able to shine. I'm ordering it again tonight but with shredded chicken added. The first time I got it I didn't add any meat. The pork fried rice threw me off. The pork was in long pale narrow pieces, not Chinese BBQ pork like the delicious (and plentiful) pork fried rice at Yang Chow in Oakland. Those pale pork pieces didn't look very appetizing either. It wasn't bad though. It was just surprisingly bland. Not much flavor. And good pork fried rice was what I was craving too, so that was disappointing. Someone else had given it a good review, which is why I ordered it. But I wouldn't get it again. The sesame chicken was tasty. However, the breading was just a little bit too thick. It won't matter much if you eat it while it's hot and fresh. But when I microwaved leftovers later, they became tough hard little nuggets. I took a star off for that.

Yelp
The tomato yunan rice noodle soup is amazing and flavorful!! This is one of my favorite yunan noodle places. The chinese beef burrito was also very tasty and authentic. Definitely check out this place if you are looking for authentic chinese food

Emily C.

Yelp
Is this considered a hidden gem? Despite their specialty Yunan style rice noodles being in their name, we had delicious homestyle dishes instead. Parking was a bit challenging as you cannot park in the nearby lot with the motel and Thai restaurant. - Braised Pork with Preserved Vegetable in Soy Sauce: My dad's favorite dish comprised of fatty, soft, thick slices of pork belly over the preserved veggies with a thick sauce. Different restaurants make this differently. This had a real home-y feel due to the soy sauce base with a hint of sweetness in this dish. I haven't had this style of flavor in a very long time. - Braised Eggplant with Grounded Pork: This also had a perfectly nostalgic taste to it! The pork was chewy and fatty and the eggplant cooked to perfection. Easily my favorite dish. - Hand Made Pork Dumpling: Slippery, thin wrappers filled with juicy pork inside. These were huge! This took a while to come out. They were so packed with in-house orders and outside orders when we went on a Saturday night. There were only 2 servers so it was difficult to get a hold of them to order, box up, refill the small cups of water, etc. But I really enjoyed the place!

Joe R.

Yelp
We tried the mapo tofu, mixed fungus, eggplant with string bean and spicy chicken. Everything was really good! Portion sizes are generous and the food was very fresh and delicious. They were very busy and the lady working the front by herself was very nice. Would definitely come back.

Kris B.

Yelp
Christmas Day lunch! Just a perfect place for a huge Christmas lunch. I got a kick out of their menu - American Chinese food section. And you know what, my family was definitely ordering from that section heavily! Came here with my 80 year old parents, my brother and husband for a Christmas Day feast and this place did not disappoint! Wonton soup, potstickers, orange chicken, beef chow fun, sweet and sour shrimp, broccoli beef, sweet sticky pork ribs.... everything was so delicious! Service was excellent, lots of water and hot tea refills. Food came out super fast and piping hot. Definitely this little unassuming place on San Pablo impressed the heck out of us and gave us a very nice experience.

Yolanda B.

Yelp
I ordered from this restaurant because of the great reviews. I ordered the orange chicken, spicy vermicelli stir-fry, Chinese beef burrito, and the stir-fried rice with egg, shrimp and pork. What a disappointment. The orange chicken was burnt, the spicy vermicelli had an unpleasant texture, and the stuffing inside the Chinese beef burrito was super salty and inedible. The only decent item was the stir-fried rice with egg, shrimp and pork- although there were only 4 shrimps and very tiny pieces of pork.

Yelp
Food is good and must try the Yunnan style rice noodles, wonderful broth! Good variety of choices.

Yun S.

Yelp
The food is authentic! If you like authentic Yun Nan rice noodle, give it a try! The price is reasonable.

Sherry S.

Yelp

Kwan A.

Yelp
The restaurant might look a bit a hole in the wall but everything we tried were solid. Cold Dressed Beef Tripe - Good portion. The beef tripe had a very nice crunchy texture and the dressing was tasty. Rice Noodle in Pickled Cabbage Soup with Tilapia Fillets - The soup was a bit numbing and sour, very appetizing. Good amount of fish fillets. Rice Noodle Tomato Soup with Beef Brisket - The tomato soup was thick and flavorful. Tea Smoked Chicken - The portion was huge. The chicken was slightly salty with smoky flavors. Overall great authentic food, reasonably priced.

Yelp
The low-down: Food: 4 stars Service: 3 stars ambiance: 2.5 stars Value: 4 stars Ever since we moved up to the east bay from Santa Clara, we have felt starved for good, truly authentic Chinese food. Last night we decided to try this place and it did not disappoint. You know the food is good and traditional when every other patron in the establishment is Chinese. I loved the fact that their menu has a section called "American Chinese Food" to let americans know that what they think is Chinese food really isn't. FOOD: We ordered two appetizers and two main dishes: - Wontons in Chili Oil: The portion was good and the wontons fresh. Flavor of the dish was subtle for us. We were expecting a big punch of flavor both from the description and the look of the dish but the flavor profile was too subtle for us. - Chinese Beef 'Burrito': This was brilliant! Ive had variations on this dish at other restaurants (Chinese beef 'hamburger'/sandwich) but I've always wished they had more meat filling. This dish brought it! The flavor was good, the meat tender, and the meat to wrapping ratio was perfect. We will come back for this! - Stir Fried Mixed Fungus (mushrooms): Don't let the name turn you off. The flavor profile of the four different mushrooms stir fried with garlic, scallions, and dried red chilis - all coated in the wonderful sauce - was sublime. Hands down this was the best dish of the evening for us both! When we saw a picture of it on yelp we both wanted to try it. We couldn't stop eating this. - Crispy Pork Ribs: We had mixed reactions to this dish. I liked it. My husband thought it was just ok. It wasn't what either one of us was expecting (salt and pepper pork style ribs). These were actual rib cuts seasoned with a well balanced dry rub seasoning the deep fried and perfectly stir fried serrano (I believe) peppers and peanuts. AMBIANCE: Let's just say that the focus or this restaurant is NOT atmosphere. It is non-pretentious (some would say a step above 'a hole in the ground'). It felt a bit dreary and sparse when we arrived but it soon filled up with people and got a little livelier. The table we sat at felt a little sticky. Water is served in tiny, cheap throw-away plastic cups and the service, while 'available', is not present if you know what I mean. I'll close with this: If you come here for sweet 'n sour pork, Mongolian beef, or sesame chicken, you are missing out on treasures. We will be back to try new dishes and reorder a couple of the dishes we loved.

Bruce C.

Yelp
This is a review for their tomato soup noodles and brisket. It was fantastic. Decent amount of well seasoned brisket, lots of nicely textured noodles and fantastic tomato soup broth. We also tried the yunnan style and it was good but broth was somehow a bit lacking. Pot stickers a little on the bland side. They also have a selection of chinese-american dishes too for something other than noodles. But really, just get the tomato broth choices.

Henry L.

Yelp
Not bad noodle place. The food quality is pretty good. The soup is served piping hot in a stone bowl, which is exactly how it should be. The ingredients come out in lots of little plates, which is also quite authentic. The staff are all very friendly. The price is definitely reasonable and below market price. Only downside is they take only cash. The tables and chairs are OK. The restroom is a little filthy, but hey what do you expect. The menu variety is pretty big, for a noodle place. Food comes out ok quick. Overall, a good Yunan noodle place.

Nancy P.

Yelp
Small mom and pop tuna style noodles off San Pablo. Easy to find parking right in front. I ordered the tomato beef yunnan style and hubby had the mushroom broth. Both broths were delicious and came bubbling hot. We sat indoors. And originally while there weren't many people, 5 additional groups came in. We also ordered the chive pancakes, which were crispy and a little oily.. I'm glad they gave us the noodles to add in ourselves since it easily over cooks. Noodles did not come with a lot of items.

marilyn h.

Yelp
Because this place is close to home and I absolutely love Szechuan food, I ordered take out of kung pao chicken and beef with cumin. I was totally disappointed. It might have been a stand in cook that midday, and I will give them another chance, but whoever was in the kitchen had no idea how to spice properly. The beef came with way too much cumin...likely added as an after thought, and omg, too much and a very raw flavor when an appropriate amount should have been blended in the cooking sauce with the beef...not afterwards like it tasted. Very difficult to over come. I have consumed both dishes over 3 days and cumin, which I really like, is still way too much. I am really bummed by the taste. Re the kung pao chicken, the chicken pieces were not discernible as to where they came from. I considered not writing a review but really want the restaurant to know about the cumin! It was not acceptable. Proceed with caution.

Cecelia L.

Yelp
The food is very good but it's not worth the money when you have it delivered . It cost me $50.00 for just 2 items. Fried cabbage and flat noodles and beef. Cabbage was $15.00. Way too expensive for just a vegetable.

Wendy K.

Yelp
Comfortable and low key place to enjoy a bowl of rice noodle soup. Service was very friendly. We ordered: - fish fillet and pickled veggies rice noodles - grilled whole fish - fried rice Fried rice was just ok but both the fish and the noodles were super flavorful and delicious. We will be back.

Angel H.

Yelp
I've read a lot of reviews for this restaurant on a Chinese App and thought to give a try since I'm in the area. The restaurant is right around the corner, there are a lot of street parking in front of it. Service is OK here, food seems like Americanized Chinese food. It's not bad, just not good enough for me to come back. We've ordered 2 Yunan-style noodle, and beef tripe. The noodle itself is really good but the soup tastes like chicken powder with msg, I might be wrong. Spicy beef tripe is so-so, I'm not a fan of their spicy sauce although my friends loved it.

Austin W.

Yelp
Just found my new favorite place to get green onion pancake beef rolls! For $12, you get a massive serving of 8 pieces. There is not only a very generous amount of beef inside each piece, but there's also just the right amount of cilantro and plum sauce inside to make each bite perfectly sweet and savory. If you're a fan of this dish like I am and order it wherever it's available, you will not be disappointed here. My wife ordered the picked cabbage noodles with fish filets and she really enjoyed the bowl of noodles. The broth's sour and spicy profile makes your mouth pucker up, but in a way that makes you want more. I thought the toppings being served on the side was a bit gimmicky because I ended up just pouring everything into my bowl once it arrived, but it does make for a very good Instagram photo. No AMEX accepted here, but other cards are accepted; not a cash-only location.

Yun C.

Yelp
I finally made my way to try this restaurant after eye-ing it for quite some time. 5 stars because not only the food that we ordered was delicious, but the server was honest. You can place your order online by scanning the barcode on your table. You also can checkout online where they asked me how much in tips I wanted to give. i thought it would then take me to a page to pay online. However, it was not the case. The server would print the check and run your credit card for payment manually, in person. When the server came back after running my credit card for payment, apparently, the tip that I put online was already added, but the printout still had suggestions for tips. He immediately pointed out that my tip was already added (so I wouldn't accidentally add it again). I really appreciate the gesture and honesty. Now, the food, we ordered their famous original rice noodles, the sesame chicken, and the Chinese beef burrito. The noodles soup was very delicious. The broth was light, comforting, and tasty. The portion was good, but there wasn't much meat in it. If you want more meat, make sure to order the add-on. I added the pig intestines, and it was really good (they were sliced and fried). The beef burrito was just like what others said.. lots of meat! Really good flavors. The sesame chicken was also good if you like this type of americanized dish. They have a lot of other chinese dishes to order. The next table ordered the pickled fish soup, and the portion looked humongous. I would try this dish next time, haha. The restaurant is not fancy, but the food is good, and I appreciate the honesty. We will be back!

Selina L.

Yelp
I went recently and wanted to let other Yelpers know that they no longer serve the traditional Yunnan noodles with sides plated into small plates in my previous picture, now they serve everything in the noodle bowl itself. In my opinion this takes away the "fun" in Yunnan noodles. Even though it still taste good, the Yunnan experience was why I liked the noodle so much. So I don't think I will be ordering this much anymore.

Alvin W.

Yelp
This is a must-try. It's not a physically small enough restaurant to be a hole-in-the-wall but it is definitely easily overlooked. I did not have high hopes walking in, but I'm definitely* coming back. Honestly, the restaurant and some of the dishes *looked underwhelming, but the *taste is tough to beat. Here is what we ordered: * Rice Noodle in Yunnan Style Original Soup ($10) - This is the epitome of "don't judge a book by its cover". The soup is plain looking but the full dish actually has 16 sides, lettuce, rice noodles, and an extremely well-seasoned soup. Try the soup. Really. Looks plain, but it's anything but! * Rice Noodle in Spicy Soup with Beef ($13) - This was bubbling and boiling fresh when served. Again with 16 sides, lettuce, rice noodles -- this time, with beef. The beef is very flavorful and cooked to a good degree of softness. This is much above average -- many beef noodle soups have tough beef that is often hard to chew. This is not the case here: the beef is tender, flavorful, and easy to bite. * Chinese Beef Burrito ($11) - This English translation cracks me up. The dish didn't disappoint! It's beef, some greens (cucumber?) and a Chinese tortilla-like wrap. It's traditional and yummy! * Pork Fried Rice ($11) - I usually use plain fried rice as an indicator of the chefs skill. The fried rice was pretty good and had the right amount of everything. Sanity check passes! Overall, am definitely coming back. If I can't physically get here, I'll order delivery (if possible). True to its name, the noodles and soup are the specialty here, as far as I can tell. The other dishes are traditional in a good way too. So goo! COVID readiness: There was hand sanitizer, staff are wearing masks, and tables were not only wiped down but also sanitized.

Kirsty E.

Yelp
This place is a genuine hidden gem and I'm not sure why it isn't busier, maybe we just go at weird times. Oddly enough the namesake Yunnan noodle soup was just OK to me but oh, the beef roll (amusingly called a Chinese beef burrito on the menu - don't worry, there's no tortilla even though the menu says so, the wrap is scallion pancake and it's stuffed with herbs). The boiled protein of your choice in hot sauce is addictive and comes as a massive portion (we got the beef), in fact a lot of dishes here are both massive and reasonably priced so the value for money is amazing post-pandemic. Their stir fried lotus root is one of those side dishes that goes with anything, and you'll find yourself picking at it until it's gone even if you don't think you're hungry. The dish that they call spicy vermicelli stir-fry is what I'm used to seeing as "ants climbing a tree" (no ants, ground pork) and the version here is really good. Also, it's not on the printed menu, but if you ask they will make you big plate chicken and it's a. excellent and b. really really big, so take that into account if you order it. For some reason tea comes in tiny cups with cute little handles here, and it's a much darker tea than most restaurants serve, but it's good. The only con I can think of honestly is that food takes a while to come out here, so take that into account when planning, but it's so good and so cheap that it's definitely worth making the trip out to the somewhat out of the way location, and the staff are very nice.

Yelp
This is a restaurant I come to often, and every dish is generously portioned. What I like most is their crispy pork rib, which is spicy and delicious. The beef burrito is also very delicious. I must order these two dishes every time I come here.

Yelp
Chinese cuisine originating from the Sichuan Province is well-known for its bold flavors, particularly the aromatic spiciness resulting from its use of garlic, chili, and the Sichuan pepper. But perhaps lesser known is the cuisine from Yunnan, a neighboring province that shares its border with Burma and Laos - two cultures that have had an unmistakable culinary influence on the region, while still highlighting that familiar Sichuan heat. Yunnan Rice Noodle in El Cerrito features memorable regional dishes such as crispy pork ribs garnished with chili and garlic and a deep-fried whole fish with pickled peppers. However, as the name implies they specialize in homemade rice noodles served in various hearty broths. Those willing to break a sweat should go for the spicy soup which provides an intense and numbing heat that chili-lovers will enjoy while challenging diners who prefer a more "mild" experience. Ordered plain it comes with pickled vegetables and bean curd which offers relief from the heat and makes for a great vegetarian experience, but add beef for some protein or if you're feeling more daring try it with sliced chitterlings!

Yelp
We finally got to try this place after indoor dining is allowed again. We ordered: *Yunnan Style rice noodle(original)- I enjoyed this very much. The rich bone broth was very soothing and there were a lot of ingredients to make it interesting. Great comfort food. *Stir fried lotus roots- everyone loved this dish, even my picky 9 yr old and 12 yr old, and it is not so spicy that the kids cannot enjoy it. *braised pork with preserved vegetables- One of the chef recommendations. The pork was not as tender as other places, but the sweet and savory sauce was great with rice *beef roll (Chinese beef burrito)- I've had this dish at great many places all over the state, but this is a stand out here. Highly recommend you get this. *golden fried shrimp balls- another chef recommendations. if you like honey walnut prawns you will find this similar. Very impressive looking when presented as a dish. Kids loved it although I find it a bit oily.

Yelp
Very good rice noodle with well balance flavors and spices. Chive pocket is crispy and tasty.

Yelp
I have driven past this place many times over the years and have eaten the food of some of the previous occupants, but my friend Lori's recent review made me decide to check it out. Tonight I ordered dinner via Yelp/GrubHub's online system. I don't use delivery services because I want the restaurants to get all my money. I'm not sure whether there is a cut taken when takeout is ordered via this system and when I asked the owner he didn't understand my question. In the future I will order by phone to make sure. The restaurant is less than 5 minutes from my house. I ordered pot stickers and sweet and sour spareribs, both of which Lori had raved about. Lori has a sophisticated palate, so I knew the sweet and sour sauce wouldn't be that cloying pink stuff you find at some other Chinese restaurants. I added sautéed green beans. The other reason I wouldn't use the Yelp/GrubHub system again is that they gave me a window of 35-55 minute for it to be ready. They said they would update me via texts but they didn't. I called the restaurant directly to ask when it would be ready and he told me it was ready now, so I went right down. I had paid online, but the tip I thought I gave didn't register so I tipped in cash. The food was still warm when I arrived home. There are 8 pot stickers to an order. I ate 4 and saved the rest for another meal. As Lori said, they were excellent, w/ a tasty dipping sauce. The spare ribs were full size, tender and meaty and the sauce was subtle and delicious. They were lightly sprinkled w/ sesame seeds. As w/ the pot stickers, the portion was generous, enough for another meal. The green beans were fabulous, well cooked and flavorful, enough to accompany the other dishes in the next meal. I certainly will be ordering from them again. There's an extensive menu that begs to be explored. There are a variety of dishes that are spicy and many that are not, for spice wimps like me.

Yelp
It opened for a while but I never dare to go in after the new owner takes over the place. So I usually just order to-go. Weeks ago I finally went there with my friend, service was good, the young boy was very friendly, he explained well on the menu because my friend couldn't eat spicy. Foods were the same as to-go orders, good! I will definitely continue to order the noodle from here!

Yelp
Decent service, fast turnaround, and home style food. Ordered the original soup rice noodle and the spicy pork intestine rice noodle. Original soup did not come with meat; the spicy one did. Both broths were a bit lacking on the salt, but temperature was good, and there were many toppings in both. Not perfect, but still decent tasting.

Yelp
** The following review reflects my delivery experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** I believe this unobtrusive Szechuan spot on San Pablo opened in the midst of the pandemic since I don't recall it being there when life was normal. Now that life is extremely abnormal, its presence entered my consciousness the usual way these days, Grubhub and DoorDash. I saw steamed chicken on their menu and immediately said to myself, "I'm so there". Except the reality is "I'm so here". Chinese takeout is always a dicey proposition, but the Szechuan specialties lured me to try them...twice! Jamie W. and I have been pleased with what arrives in our doorstep. Our first order included the $9.95 Steamed Chicken in Chili Oil which was a hearty portion for the price with green onions and cilantro sprinkled on top and the oil doused pretty liberally over the poultry (photo: https://bit.ly/34Qz9hl). Basically what I wanted though if I had an option for the amount of chili oil, I would've opted for a lighter dousing. For our side dishes, we first had the $10.95 Stir-Fried Cabbage speckled with hot red peppers (photo: https://bit.ly/36VwLIR). Then came the $12.95 Griddle Cooked Cauliflower which had unexpected pieces of pork (photo: https://bit.ly/36Xe9rN). No complaints from us on the surprise appearance of pig. Our second order just happened last night and the centerpiece (literally) was the $18.95 Steamed Mixed Seafood with Garlic Sauce. The appearance of a banquet-sized portion in a huge aluminum Pan was shocking and had me relooking at my order to make sure I didn't fat finger 3 orders instead of one. Nope, that was the actual order. Oh my, that was a lot of shrimp, clams, calamari, and whitefish. All of it was covered heavily with minced garlic in oil (photo: https://bit.ly/3nRMn6n). Delicious but enough for a small family. This time we added the $12.95 Stir-Fried Mixed Fungus which was a nice mix of wild mushrooms and peppers though a bit weighed down by the amount of oil (photo: https://bit.ly/34O9eXH). Note to self (and you): 'Stir-fried' means it will be slathered in oil. Gratefully the $5.95 Boiled Green Soybeans were just that, boiled, and all the healthier for it (photo: https://bit.ly/3lLzt85). If you're in the mood for Szechuan around El Cerrito, this should definitely be on your short list. FOOD - 4 stars...Szechuan dishes packed with flavor and a lotta oil...really generous portions in case you need the extra food AMBIANCE - n/a...I don't know..,my experience was just based on the delivery SERVICE - 4 stars...pretty darn fast if you're hungry TOTAL - 4 stars...good to know there's solid Szechuan nearby RELATED - Hungry for Chinese? Yelp
Vaccination required for dining in. This place is super unassuming. We came on a rainy day as I happened to check the Yelp page as we drove by. With a quick u turn we parked in front and went inside. Don't be deterred by the lack of interior. This is definitely the type of place #ifyouknowyouknow #iykyk . There are no real signs that it's delicious (no pictured menu, or crazy interior to entice the customers) with exception for its highly rated Yelp reviews. We went crazy on the menu and ordered a lot for the two of us cause we like leftovers. If you don't, you could easily get two servings out of the yunnan style original soup - it comes with a bunch of toppings and noodles in a clay style pot that keeps it all nice and warm. That's a steal for $13! The sesame chicken was a surprise star - there's something super fragrant and citrusy. I can't put my finger on the flavor but it's like a floraly citrus that makes it different. Maybe it's just orange but it was so unique and freakin delicious. The chicken was sauced but not soggy and crisp. It also kept well as leftovers. A shock. The beef "burrito" was also a hit - though it was served with cold veggies and Expected it to be warm. Juicy flavorful with a bit of sweetness in the marinade. Wontons in chili oil were not as spicy as you would think, just a light numbness from the Szechuan peppers. Still delicious to eat. We also got scrambled egg with shrimp. Also tasty. All in all I'm glad we came here. This place deserves more props! It's unassuming but legit. I saw a family eating a hot pot over a portable burner and I'm so curious what that was, and I also saw another guy order this giant stew. I def want to try more next round.

Yelp
The Beef Burrito is a must. Lots of meat and flavor. Went really well with spicy rice noodle soup! That soup was loaded with pickled vegetable and spicy green peppers. The ma la taste was present and the spicy sour taste balanced out this soup. Paired with the beef burrito; I felt like all my cozy heart strings were being strummed. We finished off with a grilled pork rib dish and some stir fried greens (yu choy?). We had a great lunch here-- will return again!

Yelp
I suggested coming here for lunch with my husband and Dad. Despite being Chinese, my dad and I rarely have Chinese food and we both loved it! My husband is a Chinese food fiend and he ordered so many dishes. It kind of looks like this restaurant is not open for indoor dining because they have it blocked off with tables but you basically have to push the tables out of the way and enter yourself, same when you leave. They give you paper take out menus to order but there are signs posted around the restaurant that prices are higher than the menu prices. Honestly not sure how much higher but it was about $80 for lunch for 3 of us which seems way high for what I thought was going to be a hole in the wall cheap eats type place which is what the ambiance feels like. We ordered original yunan style noodle soup, spicy noodle soup, spicy wontons, cumin lamb, and salted egg yolk pumpkin which for some reason is under desserts but in most Chinese restaurants it is more of an appetizer/side. The green onion beef burrito looked good too but we already went overboard with our order. The original yunan soup is a MUST. Its way better than the spicy one. The spicy one is good too but its more of the numbing kind and less of the spicy flavor and the beef was too salty. They are served with all of these cute little side dishes (kind of like banchan) and the sweet waiter explained to put all the side dishes in first while the soup is still piping hot before we put the noodles in. Would skip the spicy wontons, they were not spicy at all and not as good as other ones we've tried. My husband devoured the cumin lamb and I loved the salted egg yolk pumpkin. Portions are huge, lots of leftovers. Staff is really nice! Easy street parking. Came on a Friday afternoon and we were the only people dining in for a while until another couple came in but they were very busy with take out orders the entire time. Random pro tip but my dad was craving coffee which they don't serve here but my husband ran across the street to a boba shop and got a huge coffee for only $2 so just in case anyone else reading this is wanting a coffee!
