Rather than booking a Michelin starred restaurant that takes hours to dine, I decided to go to Yuzu with my family to celebrate my birthday. Having visited Japan just 2 months ago, I had very high expectations and Yuzu did not disappoint! It is a very small restaurant with an even smaller bar and only has 3 or 4 tables. Glad The Hubs made a reservation! The Hubs and I each ordered the omakase menu, which for $115 pp is very reasonable. It included sashimi and nigiri as well as a few cooked dishes and matcha ice cream for dessert. I unfortunately ate my nigiri, forgetting to take a photo, but it included uni, toro, Spanish mackerel, scallop and another fish. I was impressed that they offered so many fish from Toyosu fish market in Tokyo, which we had recently visited. The starter course of the omakase was truly unique. It included potato salad with crab, small raw shrimp (ama ebi) with fried fish skin that included the scales as well as tuna bone marrow. I've had Japanese food many times in my life, but have never tried either of those last 2 items. The fish skin tasted like a potato chip, while the bone marrow was very delicate and gelatinous. My oldest ordered a salmon and avocado roll as well as a plain salmon roll. My youngest ordered a 5 piece Salmon Lover's Sushi, which included salmon, seared salmon, King salmon, ocean trout and salmon belly. We were all very happen with our meal! Overall, the prices at Yuzu are slightly higher than your average Japanese restaurant, but I think the quality and freshness is top notch! I highly recommend Yuzu for an authentic Japanese dining experience!
