My husband and I spent a weekend at the Zabriskie House for a combined birthday/anniversary celebration. It was restive, luxurious and just what we were looking for.||||We were unclear from the Inns of Aurora website exactly what to expect. We discovered a campus of large, gilded-age homes renovated to perfection and decorated expertly to blend modern art, light fixtures and bold furnishings with the traditional setting. Depending on the particular house you choose to stay in, you will either enjoy west facing (sunset) views of Cayuga Lake or be located right on it’s shoreline. ||||Each house has its own style and character. Zabriskie was decorated in bold but stately blues and green, peppered with modern art and lighting. Amenities including balconies, private fireplaces, heated bathroom floors and wet bars were available depending on the particular room reservation. ||||Each morning a continental-plus breakfast was painstakingly laid out by the Zabriskie innkeeper, Gerri. The array of coffees, teas, fresh fruits, oatmeal, local yogurt and the house special breakfast bars (surprisingly delicious), made for a wonderful start to the day. Wine by the glass was on offer each afternoon and in the evenings, Gerri drew up a fire pit with s’mores makings, hot chocolate and mint spoons. ||||Service was polished from check in through check out. Our questions were answered, recommendations were on point and the one minor issue we experienced (glitchy fireplace) was promptly fixed and Gerri insisted on bringing us a bottle of wine, of our choosing, for the “trouble.”||||Gerri’s ability to make guests feel pampered and at ease cannot be overstated. She attended to our every need (anticipating many of them) without interrupting our getaway weekend. Really thoughtful service is so rare at the moment and this was what set our experience apart from those available at comparable boutique or larger luxury hotels. ||||The nearby Rasa Spa, part of the Inns campus, was excellent. We spent several hours each day receiving treatments and taking advantage of the six thermal pools, hot and dry saunas, cafe and other relaxation amenities. The prices are high - at least for this part of the country - but the extras offered are well beyond any other day spa in western or central New York.||||We will be back and enthusiastically recommend the Inns to friends and family looking for a quiet, luxurious getaway.
