Serving Riverside since 1963, this multigenerational Medina-family cafe anchors local mornings with chilaquiles, menudo, and classic combo plates. Noted decades ago by The New Yorker and highlighted by Visit Riverside, it remains a true community dining room.

Google
Honestly one of the best spots if not the best spot I've been to, food tastes like if you back in the rancho. Service is 💯

Google
You won't find a more authentic Mexican food restaurant in California. Everything is seasoned perfectly and cooked just until tender. It is all homemade. They offer multiple types of delicious salsas. They let you sample to figure out which one you want. And their service makes you feel like you're at home with family. They even make their own desserts. I drive an hour and a half just to come eat here.

I wanted a quick breakfast while I charged my car and the reviews about breakfast brought me in. The reviews were correct. The service was excellent and my server was friendly and attentive. I ordered the chilaquiles with green sauce and will try the red sauce next time. The salsa they bring in the bottle was phenomenal, it was spicy for me but so addicting, very flavorful and fresh. They also had really good coffee, no need for sugar or cream. Will have breakfast here again or maybe work my way through the dinner menu. Good recommendation and great location to walk to

Google
After all these years this place is still good! I love the breakfast, lunch and dinner! 🥘 Our server “Liz” was wonderful and very nice! The food is delicious and on point everytime I come to Riverside! The Mexican food is authentic and tasty 😋 I will continue to return back for a great and filling meal.

Google
I recently visited this Mexican cafe, and the food was really good! I ordered the chile verde chilaquiles with eggs, and they were absolutely delish. Pairing it with a cafe de olla was a great choice; the flavors complemented each other perfectly. The decor was so authentic, creating a cozy atmosphere, and the service was very nice and helpful with the menu. Overall, it's a fantastic Mexican breakfast spot that I would highly recommend.

Google
Great place to have an event. Spacious room for a comfortable experience. The food is also delicious and the staff were so friendly and super helpful. Definitely recommend this restaurant for a great dinner and a great place to host a gathering. You won’t be disappointed!

Google
This place was amazing!!! The menudo was excellent and the egg nopales dish was delicious. I cannot wait to go back. Drinks were on point!

Yelp
Great authentic Mexican food with a touch of home. Perfect location and a family atmosphere.

Yelp
The food is Great! The staff is kind, warm and very non confrontational. However, I have eaten in and have had takeout. That's where the problem lies. Their prices are high and because of this the portions are generous, except when you takeout. It wouldn't be a problem if the price was less for takeout, but it isn't. My only resolve will be to take a seat, order and when the food comes ask for boxes to take home. I cannot always eat in because of my schedule so I will now be more efficient and order in. I will say that the 3 spoonfuls of beans were delicious and the 3 bites of salad were as well. Kudos to the cook!

Yelp
Hello, yesterday was my husband's retirement party at Zacatecas Cafe. To say the least it turned out amazing. The food delicious as always and our guests kept complementing how they were really enjoying everything that was served. The bartender Liz was absolutely on top of every drink order, she was very friendly efficient and great drinks. The young man that was helping out did a great job. Couldn't ask for a better night. You should try Zacatecas cafe. You will be happy that you did. It was also a great space for us to gather and mingle,

Yelp
Went here a while ago but I've always wanted to go back because it was so delicious. The food was authentic Mexican food. Everything was perfect ! The decor was perfect w old historical photos as well. Service was on point. If you've never been you should check out out. Support small businesses Good Eats !

Yelp
Overpriced want to be Mexican food! Overcooked, mushy rice, canned tasting refried beans, $9 tamales with no meat made with Maseca, and flavorless meat! Stay away! You'll be disappointed! The only thing they got going is that they serve the food hot!
google avatar

Nando R.

Yelp
I visit regularly. Food is always delicious and service is top notch! Lots of great art pieces on the walls. I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

Yelp
Family and friends tell me about this place. It was well worth the weight from San Diego.

Efrain V.

Yelp
Went to try from Corona, not overly impressed. Had the breakfast, menudo (red chile to mild, not home style). Also had egg and nopales plate, it was tasteful. I think it is pricey for foods. Would refer Migals at Dos Logos. Sorry

Yelp
Food is delicious, one of our favorite spots. Service is attentive and quick. Ambiance is trapped in time but decor is well made and authentic. Chicken enchiladas so good, table salsa and other sauce they bring for the chips is so good, salsa is spicy.
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
came here for lunch on a saturday. it was packed but we were able to get a table pretty fast. seems like a popular place. service started out really good and fast but it took a long time to pay at the end. the inside was really fun and well decorated. the food was just alright and felt a bit overpriced. i really enjoyed their salsa options for the chips.

Edgar R.

Yelp
Service is great. Food is not so great. Cafe de Hoya is tasteless. I got a chile verde wet burrito, the burrito was soaked in what appeared to be water on the bottom. The chile verde and the sauce were lacking in flavor. I do not mind paying higher than average for great food but this was far from it. Will definitely not return.
google avatar

Mike E.

Yelp
From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the warm atmosphere and friendly staff. I started my meal with a plate of chicharrones as an appetizer; they were perfectly fresh and still crackling. For my main course, I decided to choose the chilaquiles and carne asada taco. The chilaquiles were rich in flavor and spicy, which I like. Throughout my visit, the waitresses were attentive and provided good service. I recommend Zacatecas to anyone in the area looking for a good meal.
google avatar

René R.

Yelp
Thee, number one Mexican authenticity created from their kitchen served gracefully to you at your table. No matter what you order from their menu, their cuisine has been absolutely delicious for over 60 years, made by a quality family. So if you haven't yet been to their cozy restaurant with beautiful dining room art, then check out this delicious Riverside gem and taste what Zacatecas is all about.

Jorge S.

Yelp
We had a big family gathering there after a burial service. I got the Carnitas plate. It did not taste authentic. Below average taste. I was hungry so I ate it.
google avatar

Maria N.

Yelp
I love how friendly the staff are and the menu has quite a bit of selections. They open early for great breakdown options. They have cafe de la holla and it's delicious. I ordered the small breakfast which came with beans potatoes and 2 eggs. They have music playing and the ambiance is very chill. The decor is authentic Mexican looking with tile and beautiful colors. I love how they have pigeon when they first opened and love the fact it's not a franchise. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Nick M.

Yelp
This is by far the best Mexican food in Riverside! Service is incredibly efficient and the ambience is friendly, inviting and relaxed ! Highly recommended from a person whose Mother cooked like this everyday !
google avatar

Krystin E.

Yelp
Over priced and the food was just okay. Not impressed with the soup served with the meal, the asada was over cooked and not a good cut of meat. The rice was over seasoned and heavy. The Guacamole was really good but $18. Two dinner plates plus guacamole cost $80. The steaks weren't worth the price. The service was good and the restaurant itself was a nice set up. Maybe it's a nice place to come for drinks. I wouldn't go back for the food.
google avatar

Rosa C.

Yelp
This place is highly recommended! Me and hubby went for the first time and the service was great! The food is deliciously made, definitely authentic Mexican food! The ambiance was good! But this place is busy!! Good sign!!! Lots of parking in the back

Yelp
Zacatecas Cafe food is amazing all around. so far i've had almost every item on the menu. The service quality is excellent and friendly and huge thanks to the wonderful Medina family and Elizabeth is always my go to person for attention to details. the atmosphere is very artistic and pictures of the the restaurant history is great. this restaurant speaks for itself and highly recommend anyone to visit. Don't forget to order a cocktail from the bar and tip your server and bartender.
google avatar

Javier R.

Yelp
Well, not been here in awhile, but food quality was good and most importantly, service! Elizabeth was pleasant and very friendly. Very clean and calm place to enjoy a meal with company. Unfortunately, prices were a lot higher than the last time, but that seems to be the norm now.
google avatar

Peter G.

Yelp
We stopped to have lunch and the food was pretty good. This was the first time that we've tried to this place but we wanted to try the Molcajete..We ordered the molcajete which is a new item in the menu. It was good but pricey for the amount of food you get. I would try a combination next time. The chips were cold and the sauce was good but not great. Try this place for lunch if you are near the area.

Sheila C.

Yelp
Taste of Food is great HOWEVER the Quantity (very small burritos now) and PRICES are OUTRAGEOUS !!! Yusenia's is lucky to be located close to a Home Depot where hundreds of employees are employed!! without those employees purchases Yusenia's would be out of business. How about a discount for those employees??!??
google avatar

Yelp
Order four menudo with extra hominy. I was told over the phone 15 minutes it will be ready. pull up and waited just a couple minutes to have it bagged up. They give all the garnishes to go along with it. Menudo is good, in my opinion, just missing some more flavor to it. The restaurant has plenty of tables, it gets packed so if you're going to come in the morning the wait time has never been more than 15-20 minutes. They also have a full bar good options on tap, and the music isn't too loud. I seen a couple of grandmas plate on the menu. I'll be coming back and trying to menudo again. Overall i recommend if you're looking for a good breakfast.

Yelp
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST ..The service is awesome, so welcoming and very friendly. I absolutely love this place. Amazing Food, amazing service. Thank you so much.. I'm coming back

Yelp
Our family loves this restaurant. We all order different plates and all our food was so delicious. Serves and atmosphere was inviting. Great service. Our beautiful server Elizabeth was amazing with our family. She goes above and beyond to inform us of the menu. She even brought us samples of different dishes to try before ordering. Everything in the menu is so freaking tasty. We even got T-shirts for our family. My daughter loved it and had such great experiences. Thank you so much Elizabeth. Can't wait to go back to your restaurant and try new items from the menu.
google avatar

Pavel M.

Yelp
I've been coming to this place for a while. Before starting to say that the food is BEST TO NONE, their customer service and professional service is excellent. The leadership and Every one of their employees from the time you walk in the door they show so much compassion and their kindness to the customers is just inviting you to come back here.
google avatar

Magdalena A.

Yelp
I am very sorry to say, my lunch was horrible! Now normally this place us wonderful. But today the service was lousy and so was the food. Our waitress was not attentive to us. Before my food was to come I should have had my soup (fiedo) which I love. She didn't bring it at all, and when I asked her for it she told me I had to wait because they were making it. When I finally did get it, it was cold! With my order she forgot my tortillas. When I asked for those they were cold, crunchy, and tasted old. A frizbee would have tasted better! This was incredibly disappointing!

Frank G.

Yelp
First time here... I will definitely come back for some more! I did notice the parking lot was full and that must only mean one thing!...

D C.

Yelp
Food was just OK. Everyone raves about this place. I don't get the hype. Food was bland. They forgot an extra order of rice. I had it delivered through Door Dash.
google avatar

Araceli V.

Yelp
Food was good. I especially liked the option of having both the red and green sauces in your chilaquiles or huevos rancheros. The staff were attentive and pleasant. The decor makes you feel as if you're in Mexico

Dennis V.

Yelp
Really good food and service was fine. Nice ambiance, really packed which says alot about the food. I will definitely be back to try more dishes. Staff really friendly.

Yelp
A small but quaint restaurant a stone throw away from UCR in the heart of Riverside. The food has great flavor with large portions. This is a local spot that has been here for years. The restaurant needs a little updating but overall the vibe was great and the food was excellent. If you're in Riverside stop by and give them try. I really enjoy this restaurant and will keep it on my favorite list.
google avatar

Yelp
Best Mexican food in the IE. Chorizo con papas just like homemade everything tbh their breakfast and dinner are legit the best tasting Mexican food you can get around here

Gary M.

Yelp
Liz wasn't the first waitress who served our party but she made it memorable. Food was on point, spicy, and served hot and delivered with a laugh and a smile. Definitely will return and explore more of the menu soon. Thanks for the warm inviting atmosphere and good time.

Yelp
Now here's a restaurant that has awesome Mexican food that is made right from a family's recipes from the 1960's , I recommend this place because of great food and service. I think this is as good as it gets right here .

Sandra B.

Yelp

Yelp
The lobby area had only one party ahead of us , but we waited quite a while to be acknowledged and quite a while longer to be seated. One of our party members had a nostalgic yearning to visit and show us all , her old "favorite restaurant", so we waited. (And waited ) as we were hopeful it would be worth the wait ? Once we were finally seated , no exaggeration, an hour and 1/2 after ordering , our food was finally , served . During our tedious campaign, we observed another party at a table nearby ,tried to walk out after waiting far too long , and they were coaxed back in & then served Before us despite ordering well after us ? Our own waitress had time & opportunity (as she did her best to placate us with many refills of chips ,salsa and water) ... to repeatedly apologize& acknowledge that things were indeed taking far too long . She tried to be "nice " by offering " free"drinks and a fresh made guacamole, "on the house" .... Which did successfully persuade us from leaving to eat elsewhere. I had plenty of bored time to study the menu and reflect, that the basic offerings were all priced on the expensive side, $9 for a bean & cheese burrito no sides ? $16 for a "chili colorado bowl" comprised of about 2 measured cups of meat chunks and 3 tortillas =that's all ? For standard homestyle Cal Mex , in a low budget venue(nothing fancy including no liquor license) ,that's not "standard" pricing . We all ordered simple things like quesadillas and burritos . After our order already was placed & after we were "invested " with our already long wait , the waitress Then came to our table to "warn" us ...,that our food might take a half hour ? Admittedly we were a party of 6 . I still feel it was Really a mystery , as to why it was all taking so long ? And it CLEARLY , took FAR longer than that "half hour " we were warned about ? . The whole ordeal took well over 3hours ? We were visiting friends in Riverside, and had planned to see a museum after lunch . "Lunch " at Zacatecas took the whole afternoon and was eaten so late , the timing for our party's dinner reservations was thrown off entirely . I am amazed this place has been open for so many years. Maybe it isn't always such a depressing marathon to have a meal here , but wine based margaritas should be a clue . This place is nothing spectacular or memorable & despite its long history, I can't think of any reason to recommend it except One extra star for decent tasting chili colorado ,&1 extra star for all the sincere apologies from the waitress. To be accurate , it was more of a one star lunch experience. Such a huge disappointment, especially for the nostalgic family member who was rather embarrassed to have recommended Zacatecas for Lunch ,

Yelp
We stopped in as we were travelling South on the 215. Great, tasty stop. The staff was super nice. Restrooms are clean. They have delicious chips they serve with salsa and some sort of warm bean dip. My family ordered some a la carte tacos, enchilledas, a torta and a taco meal. All were delicious. I also like how the restaurant shows you the cash or credit price on the check and lets you decide how you'd like to pay. Everything was great! Give it a look.
google avatar

Yelp
I first came here when they were at their former location on University and Sedgwick Ave and I had great experiences there. Although it was very cozy, the prior location was too small for how popular this cafe is! Zacatecas has a very long and rich history in the Riverside community and it is one of my favorite Riverside Mexican breakfast spots. My favorite go to order it's the chorizo con huevos with corn tortillas breakfast plate. It really hits the spot! They have a very cute architectural adobe design that fits well with the vibe here. They have a small area in the front of the restaurant featuring local artists and their artisanal crafts and jewelry for sale. Tips: there is more parking in the back! They also have banquet space for events.

Yelp
It was so good. Chile Rellenos, tamale, enchilada. Delish'.. traditional atmosphere, prices and portions good.

John J.

Yelp
WAY OVER PRICED AND JUST OK FOOD. took my wife and daughter. My daughter had 2 tacos and a lemonade ($18) $6 dollar tacos and there was nothing great about them. And, a $5.75 lemonade. In these times, they are price gouging customers. Split the machauca and had 2 coffees, $30. Would NOT recommend this establishment. Again, way over priced. 1 star for sure

Yelp
Our Server was awesome!! I wish I got her name! She took care of us like we were the only ones there!! They were very busy Saturday afternoon but she was on it!!!! Our food was well prepared, seasoned Delicious, Hot, and a lot. They have been in business over 60 Years and once you go, You know why!!! I can't say enough good things to say about this Business, if you have a chance to visit them, I Promise you, You won't be disappointed! Thank You from our waitress and Staff, Everything was Excellent!

Yelp
Okay, this is a hidden gem. Great authentic Mexican food right here. They have the best Chicken Mole I've ever tasted. Get you some
google avatar

Jeff D.

Yelp
Been the best Mexican restaurant in riverside for a long time. Been eating here for forty years!!!

Gregorio D.

Yelp
Excellent service, food, and ambience. I've been dinning here for a long time and the food has always been consistent. I've always appreciated the choice of music they play here and the service is excellent.
google avatar

Seneca E.

Yelp
We have been coming here for years. Even though we live about 20 minutes away, we like to come here after church. My favorite is the Huevos Rancheros. I like mine with double green (chili verde) and a side of potatoes and beans. I get the egg sunny side and put on top of the meat. My spouse likes to get the Napales and eggs plate. The free salsa and chips is a nice starter. I wish more places did that. Service is always friendly. This is a wonderful family run business. Inside of the building has a nice ambience however the outside parking needs a little work. The lot needs to be repaired and repaved.

Yelp
I hardly write reviews but this is one I had to because I was so dissapointed with the price and quality of food. I moved to Riverside 3 years ago and Zacatecas was our go to place for authentic mexican food. But a week ago I decided to order take out and ordered a carne asada burrito with rice and beans that ended up being 19.99 and a Chile Relleno burrito that was 16.99, with tax the bill was a little over 40.00 (2 items). I sent my husband to pick up the order and he was shocked when the girl at the register said $40, he immediately text me and I sent him the prices I found online (attached photo). He showed the girl at the register and she said that those prices were no longer correct and not to worry because the burritos were very large. TRUST ME, they were not! Not wanting to come home empty handed he paid and brought home burritos that hardly had flavor and I think the price just killed my appetite. So my recommendation, go to Taqueria 2 Potrillos near Tyler Mall. You get two very delicious large burritos, 2 agua frescas (great options to choose from) and a dessert for $40! They even have Burrito Bowls if you want to skip the tortilla! I really don't think I have ever paid almost $20 for a burrito but the prices at Zacatecas just don't add up to what you are getting. Was a great find once upon a time.

Alonso B.

Yelp
Service was good food was horrible no flavor what So ever if you want chilaquiles this is not the spot they use the same chips that's they give you with salsa the carne asada has no flavor I will definitely never come back
