Right after watching Karate Kid at the movie theatre in Pleasant Hill, California. My daughter and I decided to have pizza at Zachary's, which is located right across the theatre. It was full house when we got in with 3 to 4 people in line ahead of us. They have an array of employees. We were seated right away. The person taking our order said our pizza would be ready in 20 minutes, and it did, I was timing them. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Staff is very quick and very attentive toward their guests. The place is beautiful and neat. After eating your pizza, they even give you lollipops, even if you don't have kids dining with you. I took a couple of photos.

It's no Giordano's for sure. Wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. Ordered the Carne deep dish, expecting lots of meat. Instead it was mostly big chunks of tomato with what appeared to be shavings and small pieces of meat. Very, very slim on meat and heavy on tomatoes. Had to pick them off just to be able to eat it. Also pretty slim on cheese. If this had been my first deep dish I'd be turned off and go back to NY style. Service was great and the beer was real good though.

Google
Really don't understand the hype behind this place. Decent deep dish but gets monotonous after a point because of the overwhelming singular flavor in the pie. Maybe that's how it's supposed to be? I dunno, but not a big fan of this style.

Very lovely place with very testy pizzas. It's especially great to celebrate emotional Mather's Day in such beautiful atmosphere and fantastic food.

Google
Part of a small local chain, Zachary's has some of the best pizza in the area. And the crust is nice and thick, so it makes a far more substantial meal than many of the national chains. This was my first time to this location. It has the same great pizza as Berkeley, but a much more upscale vibe.

Google
We had a good time. Ordered pizza before you sit so that Pizza is already cooking. A couple beers, salad, 2 pizzas over 120 so a little expensive. Deep dish Pizza was delightful. Outside seating was ok. Server had Pretty Pink hair and did well. Good Service

Google
Love Zachary's! Celebrated a birthday with family, and the staff did a great job taking care of our large group. If you're a pizza lover (or from Chicago), you can't go wrong with the quality of food and service. We brought a cake which they graciously made accommodations for. Went home with happy bellies full of pizza and good memories! We'll be back!

Google
Love the stuffed pizza. Very delicious, the Chicken Special is our go to. Note, sometimes mistakes happen; however, they do an excellent job with customer service to make things right for you...ie missed special instructions, or lost order.

Yelp
O. M. G.!! By FAR the BEST pizza I've ever had and I'm OLD! LOL!! We live 20 miles away so we couldn't do door dash so we drove to try this deep dish pizza. Worth the drive!! A solid layer of amazing sausage was on the entire bottom. Yum! All veges were chopped and cooked thru. All of our extra added toppings were added. The veges and meat were plentiful as well as the cheese. The flavor ....THE FLAVOR!!!! JUST GO! My son said this is so good from now on we are going to use "Mom-dash!" Umm.... Worth it!

Yelp
We come here about three times a year and drop $100 plus and tip on a pizza. Always is fresh and healthy tasting. We like everything about the place but the pizza takes 35 minutes plus to cook. That is fine but then it is served warm sometimes. Beer selection and the hope that the pizza will be hot worth the trip.

Yelp
Came out of town and Zachary's was recommended by a friend from Chicago We ordered the deep dish pizza along with many other different salads and pizzas the food was excellent the service was great and they accommodated a large party of 15 people they also have an outdoor seating area, but for us was a little bit chilly to sit outside with kids. Overall, great experience, great food, and great service.

Yelp
We came here on a Saturday night at about 6pm. They were very busy, but we got lucky and we're seated within the first 10 minutes. They have a really well oiled plan for getting guests to pre-order their pizzas while waiting to be seated, especially because deep dish pizzas can take up to 45 minutes to bake. Servers were attentive to not only our table, but everyone around us and the pizza was fantastic! We also shared a spinach salad and for two people the share bowl was massive. We ended up taking home half our salad and half our pizza. No complaints here though! We love our leftovers.

Yelp
Oooey-goooey cheesy yumminess! This is the place to get great pizza. The stuffed spinach & mushroom is a must have for us. "It's not too heavy, flavorful, still makes me feel like I'm having my vegetables," says my lady! I love the thin bbq chicken pizza which has large slices of chicken, the perfect portion of sauce and cheese in every bite. The arugula apple salad is a great starter and if you're able to get Sarah, with an H as your server, you'll be set. She was friendly, fun, and spunky! She also provided great customer service, helped us decide between a couple options, and plated our pizzas. Superior customer service, thank you. Lots of parking in the lot next door, inside and outside seating, and it can get loud if it's packed. Give it a try if you're in the area.

Yelp
Came in with the family today after a great movie at theatre next door. The customer service at this place was absolutely terrible. At 7:25PM on 12/1/24 we were not greeted when we walked in. Rather stare at us like we were out of place. While we waited to get seated the lady at the black post at this time was extremely rude. My father is disabled and was sitting in a chair in the front and we were met with these exact words, "this is not a walkway and we need this chair" the host then brought the chair to her to sit down while on shift. I'm not sure about you, but a business that treats someone of age that has a leg disability this kind of service is pretty disgusting. I do not recommend this establishment as it seems like their staff does not respect the elderly. For the food. We had a garden salad that we shared as a family. Blue cheese dressing was very very watery. Please see photo attached. Pizza was okay. Luke warm. Our direct server who was a young man did a good job.

Darius S.

Yelp
The food was great, my table got a 4 stuffed pies, and all of them were great. The places was nice and clean, and the service was great. We had a miscommunication with our order and everything was handled perfectly. The only thing that I did not like was what happened after. After leaving the Zachary's I needed to use the restroom. I over heard one of the people at the front desk probably in their mid 20s complain about our table, and how we paid was stupid about how we split the bill. I just thought this was unprofessional talking bad about ur costumers. Mind you that our table is a bunch of teenagers. So the moral of the story don't go to Zachary's if you're gonna split the bill. The workers there will talk garbage about your table.

Yelp
I've come here a few times now and really like the pizza. I've only gotten the stuffed pizza. Hubby and I came here this evening and ordered two medium stuffed pizza and a 22oz beer to share. I ordered black olives and pineapple and he got pepperoni and onion. We knew we were over ordering but love the leftovers. This pizza is easy to freeze and reheat at another time. Anyway, best Chicago pizza outside of Chicago. I've come here a few times before and will come again. The ambiance is casual, the food is fantastic, and the service has always been kind.

Yelp
LOVE Zachary's. This place does not disappoint. We ordered the Zachary's Special which is their classic combination: Italian sausage, green pepper, onion, mushroom and mozzarella - LOVED it! Service was good and food is reasonably priced. Our server explained that the Chicago Deep Dish pizza would take about 30 minutes, and he delivered as promised. So one tip is to make sure you don't come when you're famished because the pizza takes time.
google avatar

Kody M.

Yelp
Zachary's is always 10/10. My friend and I went here twice this past week it's that good! Our first trip my friend and I got the deep dish Rustic Italian pizza to split, the next trip we went during lunch while they were serving personal size pizzas. I got the Pizza Blanca and it was to die for! The deep dish does take a while to cook so expect a wait, but it's 100% worth it. The servers and extremely friendly and accommodating which makes the experience all the better. Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Matt B.

Yelp
Worst customer service. Order $150 worth of pizza. Was delivered upside down so basically useless. Called and the manager said its not their fault. Will never order from this place again.

Yelp
Tried out Zachary's Chicago pizza, I ordered the thin crust pepperoni pizza with extra cheese. Honestly the undercarriage could use more crisp. Other than that amazing pizza ! I would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Julia S.

Yelp
Got takeout from DoorDash but have been meaning to dine in for a while now! Love that that provide utensils and plates for takeout so we didn't have to do any dishes. Although it doesn't compare to actual deep dish from Chicago, it was still really really good and probably one of the only places that makes deep dish around the area! We got their chicken, spinach mushroom medium and honestly it fed me and my husband for 3 meals since each slice was so hefty! Would totally try it in person next time to get it fresh out of the oven!
google avatar

Yelp
I've always loved going to the Rockridge location, but, now since I live on this side of the bay, I don't want to make the drive all the way to the Oakland location. My favorite pizza has always been their chorizo pizza. Unfortunately, I did find out that they no longer offer it. Is it something they can bring back? I promise I know several people that miss it, including me! ;) Service has always been great, no complaints. It does get relatively busy, but, I've never had bad service or a bad pizza!

Yelp
Came in for Father's Day per my husband's request after not having been here for a few years after a bad experience. We were seated right away even though they were pretty busy. I believe our server name was Avo. She was very nice and attentive. We ordered the meatballs and Caesar salad to begin with both were very good. We ordered two large pizzas and they were huge. We got the Carne our favorite and tried the Zachary's special both were very good. Much better experience this time we will be back

Yelp
I was in Walnut Creek on a work trip and this place was recommended by a coworker as a "must go", and I see why. I have no experience with deep dish pizza but this was a great first foray. The spinach and mushroom was delicious, filling but also not too heavy. Portions are generous- 2 smalls were plenty for 5 of use with leftovers to take back. Service was great- the server walked us through what to expect and gave recommendations. Obviously a popular spot, which makes sense for the food and the great set up.
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
We ordered online and pizza was ready as promised. Just a heads up. The pizza is hearty and heavy. The take out plates given were ultra flimsy. We took the pizza to a brewery. Luckily we had extra sturdy plates as back up. Pizza sauce was good. Not too tart and flavorful. Dough was soft and chewy. I'm not the biggest deep dish fan, but this one hit the spot. Large stuffed pizza was more than enough to feed four adults with plenty of leftovers.
google avatar

Robby C.

Yelp
Love deep dish pizza here. Ingredients are so fresh and the combination toppings are delicious.

Yelp
This restaurant was wonderful and delicious. The staff was super efficient and the pizza was perfect Chicago style deep dish pizza.

Yelp
As ashes turn to dust for Our Beloved Paxti's in Lafayette, Zachary's has come along to show us we still have so much love to give deep-dish pizza. I've had the Chicago deep-dish recommended to me by retired Chicago police officers, and I personally think Zachary's is much better. Am I originally from this area & not Chicago? Also true. We're a big fan of the spinach & mushroom, which is full of stretchy mozzarella. I'm a fan of the wait staff's handiwork in serving the first piece (a little ceremony we enjoy every time) as well as the jars of parmesan, red pepper flakes & oregano for generous sprinkling. I've brought a dog with me once, and they brought him a bowl & a glass of water to pour in it. You can sit in the patio with your pooch as long as they're well-behaved. I've ordered bottles of wine here before, and they serve you with the deference of a sommelier - not bad for a family pizzeria across from the theater! Whether you're solo, on a date or in a large group, Zachary's will find a way to accommodate your vibe. If you haven't been, you may wind up with Zachary's in your regular rotation. Make a night of it & go see a show.

Yelp
What's wrong with you, Yelp? The world doesn't need another Zachary's review, so why did you keep pressuring me to add one. I finally gave in to get Yelp off my back. What can I say that hasn't been said a million times? Nothing. Eat here. Period.

Yelp
Ok, so Zachary's is a pizza chain. But it's a GOOD pizza chain! We stopped into the Pleasant Hill store after a movie (go see Bee Keeper if you like action adventure!)... didn't know there was a Zachary's here! I was peering in the window cuz I just ate popcorn and was only sorta hungry, and I see two employees smiling at me and encouraging me to come on in! I asked W if he wanted food and, being that he loves pizza, it was sort of a stupid question. We went in and the delightful employees told us to pick a table. Kate even mentioned she'd likely be our server. So we did. Ordered the Mediterranean with pesto sauce and added zucchini on a "thin" crust. These crusts are not thin! But they are crispy on the outside and tender, buttery, slightly chewy on the inside. And they have the delightful corn meal crunch! Our pizza was delicious! We love pesto, and the addition of the zucchini was a good call-- thank you very much! () But the cherry on top was the employees and their service. EVERYONE was friendly and seemed to genuinely care about our experience. Is the fact that Zach's is employee owned a factor? I dunno, don't really care. I'm just happy to have wonderful service and see that the team showed respect toward each other. Now that we know this location is so close, we'll be back. Yum!

Yelp
I've only had to go food from here, but it's been delicious every single time. The servings are large and the food tastes good.

Yelp
First time trying Chicago pizza and it was amazing! The pizza is stuffed with deliciousness and you have to eat the pizza with a knife and fork because it's a thick pizza. Keep in mind the pizza takes about 30-45 mins so we called in our order beforehand. This was also a great location with a parking garage so parking was not as difficult compared to other areas. Definitely will be back. Both me and my sister was stuffed but we kept trying to eat more. The small size is definitely enough for 2-3 people.

Yelp
Great pizza. Being from the east coast I take pizza very seriously snd struggle continuously in finding pizza worth a dang. Do far the Zachary's chain has been some of the best. Every time I have been in one of them there is usually a wait. Which works out fine because we always order the stuffed pizza which has about a 25 minute cook time. So they let you order while you wait, when you finally get your seat your pie is ready. It is Chicago deep dish style. And freaking delicious. I usually get the spinach and shroom pie , add the Italian sausage. It is topped with thick cut chunky seasoned tomatoes. And full of yummy goodness.

Robert M.

Yelp
I can't believe how long I kept thinking I should try Zachary's. Should have continued waiting ... Ordered the Zachary's Special stuffed ... what I got was a lot of bread with some sauce on it. Hard, uninteresting crust (and too much of it). Sauce is good. Filling ... what filling? The basic pizza is not cheap. Then they charge really high prices for 'toppings' ... and don't put them on the pizza? Place is basic but clean. Staff is all young but service was ok. Friendly greeting when I came in, but waitress was bored and uninterested ... in a hurry to get my order and be done with it. Somebody else brought my food and wine. So many better pizza options out there ...

Steven G.

Yelp
Great customer service, lots of pizza variety, but I'm completely mind blown a pizza place doesn't have wings or appetizers besides salad. Ps. Go to Costco and buy wings, put them in the pizza oven on a pizza tray.
google avatar

Freshta S.

Yelp
So the restaurant itself is adorable and cozy. The waitress was really nice. My review is solely on me not liking the deep dish personally. The sauce was veryyyy overpowering, it didn't taste like I ordered bbq chicken in a single one of my bites. I'd def opt for a regular pizza next time. Would definitely recommend a small or medium between two people. Their Caesar salad was good, I'd ask for a little more dressing on the side. Not a huge fan of their ranch.
google avatar

Alice Y.

Yelp
5 stars for service, 4.5 for food. Prices are fair. Our party of 4 ordered two small deep dish pizzas (6 slices, $25-27 each). The menu says one small feeds 2-3 people, but it can easily feed 4. At the end of the meal, we still had four hefty slices left over. Our group arrived at 11:30 am on a Saturday morning, and we were one of the first people at the restaurant. The casual and cozy decor features a wooden interior and quirky paintings. Our server was peppy, cheery, and attentive. She proactively offered ice for our friend's canned coffee, coffee creamer, and housemade ranch. The ranch was thick, creamy, and well seasoned. I licked it off my crust when people weren't looking! Zachary's completely changed my mind about deep dish pizza. Their crust is crispy and sturdy, but not dry and flavorless like cardboard. They stuff the pie generously, and yet the layers of cheese, sauce, and toppings maintain integrity. It does not devolve into pizza soup in a hard bread bowl. PIZZAS ORDERED - Butternut Squash Daily Special + Chicken. The goat cheese was present, but not overwhelming, and the slightly sweet butternut squash was diced into small pieces which cooked through. The overall synergy of this pizza was already so great that the delicious ranch didn't enhance it. - Carne (Italian sausage, bacon, pepperoni, salame). I usually don't like too much cured meat on one pizza since it tends to get salty. That happened with this one, but the ranch helped tone down the salt. I nevertheless appreciated that I could taste the various components.
google avatar

Marie W.

Yelp
Being from Chicago this pizza is the closest I've found to Chicago Deep Dish in bay area, however ingredients are lacking last 3x I've ordered. This past time I ordered and paid for extra sausage and still it was mostly all sauce and sprinkle of ingredients. Also no dressing was included for my salad
google avatar

Kev H.

Yelp
Super delicious deep dish pizza. We got the carne in large and the pie was large enough to feed 5 people, although we also got a shareable salad. I liked their pizza - the tomato sauce was thick (not runny like other dish dish pizza places) and not too sour, the cheese underneath was rich, and the pie crust was thick but not hard. Typically it would take them about 35 mins to prep for each deep dish pizza order but just fyi, you can order ahead by phone before you arrive (but they just won't be able to guarantee a table for you though, just keep that in mind). The service was quick and friendly. The restaurant has a nice cool vibe and ambiance. It was clean and comfortable.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
It's been years since I had Chicago style pizza and this hit the spot. We had the Carne. It was a bit salty so maybe next time we we'll get one with less meat and more veggies. We got it to go and had them not cut it so it wouldn't get it soggy. I highly recommend doing this with any pizza but especially with a Chicago style. Our order came out on time and was hot when we got home. It's not the best Chicago style I have had but it was better than average and we will get it again.

Yelp
Came here with my gf after watching a movie and it was pretty good! This was my first time trying deep dish pizza and it was definitely a good first time. The pizza took a while to get to our table but it was worth the wait. That's how you can tell the place was poppin and that they actually cook their dishes. The veggies were cooked perfectly and the salad was pretty fresh. The food deserves a 4. Our server was pretty good. Garret was really sweet and made sure we were taken care of. They even boxed our food for us when we were ready to go. Can y'all give him a raise please? The other servers were pretty busy as well. They made sure to clean up after the other customers left and were ready to serve the next person. The service deserves a 5! The place looked like a regular pizzeria. I really liked the art that was on the walls. I was told that it was art from local artists which was pretty cool to see. My fav piece was the bobs burger and Mario one. It was also a decent size that accommodate a lot of people. The place deserves a 4.
google avatar

Maria G.

Yelp
My busband loved this place for their stuffed pizzas! We have only dined in once and the rest is carry out. Have to call in the order with plenty of time 40-50 min or so because they get a lot of phone orders and are constantly busy. The restaurant seems clean, service has been great for me.
google avatar

Jordan H.

Yelp
So I have been to this place multiple times when I use to live near the Pleasanton area. I've dined in but I mostly just grab a half baked pizza to-go. This is a very nice restaurant located on the Main Street of Pleasanton. They offer indoor and outdoor seating which is nice especially on nice days! All the workers are always very nice and accommodating. It's always nice eating here because when your done you can stroll around the downtown area which is full of other restaurants, bars, and stores. Ultimately I don't go there for that, I go for this mouth watering pizza. I live past Modesto now and had to go to the Bay Area so I took a detour to Pleasanton just to grab a pizza from this place, that good! They offer a good variety of other pizza choices and food choices as well which are just as good when dining in.

Yelp
Long running fan of Zachary's, it's an Oakland classic and so glad they opened one in pleasant hill. The deep dish pizza is always amazing, usually get the spinach + mushroom, special, or carne. They are pretty thick and layered nicely. Pizza blanco is my favorite thin crust which has a nice refreshing feel with mozzarella/ricotta and lemon. The location is nice and large, right in the downtown area. I recommend eating there with the pizza straight out of the oven and a nice beer pairing.
google avatar

Steven M.

Yelp
Zachary's never disappoints, but I realized I never left a review. The pizza here is always phenomenal. My favorite part is the tomatoes. They are always spot on with great flavor. Not to acidic, but just the right amount of sweet. The dough is great and cheese is buttery gooey goodness. Zachary's is one of the few places that didn't take a dive in quality after COVID. But tonight it was the service that set them apart. There were some issues with the initial pizza and Frank the manager came out and fixed everything and went above and beyond. You can tell the employees really care about this place and delivering a good product. I'm glad we have Zachary's in our community as they are a high quality product with great people.

Kimberly C.

Yelp
I only frequent two pizza spots here in the entire Bay Area and this is my number one spot! My brother hipped me to Zachary's years ago. We would drive from SF to Albany just to get pizza for everyone. So glad they keep up their quality of great pizzas throughout the years
google avatar

Rick T.

Yelp
Last time I had deep dish pizza was in Chicago. I stopped by here for lunch and was surprised it was close in taste to some of the Chicago spots I went to. Lunch was a great deal and enough food for me. Definitely would come back again.
google avatar

Kim J.

Yelp
This is the best pizza in town. We also got the family size Caesar salad, which is amazing. Our server was awesome. We went during work hours, so it was absolutely quiet in there. Quiet. I love this pizza spot. I wish we had one in our town.
google avatar

Teidra A.

Yelp
We ordered stuffed pizza with pepperoni and sausage. Honestly, my favorite part of pizza was the crust. It's the best I've had ANYWHERE. The texture is sheer perfection. The sauce was good but could use a tad more seasoning, perhaps adding more garlic and bit more salt would take it to the next level, but it was overall good. We also opted to have pizza half baked and finished baking at home. I think this option is perfect if ever you want to serve guests with fresh out the oven pizza. However, there is one thing that remained a mystery..why was there just one pepperoni placed on top while the rest were stuffed? Definitely ordering more uncooked pepperoni next time particularly on the top level.

Yelp
Best and only deep dish in east bay! Fire every time!!!! We always get takeout so can't comment on service. Recommend: spinach mushroom deep dish
google avatar

Asal B.

Yelp
Still love this place!! We got the mushroom artichoke deep dish yesterday and it was incredible as always. Parking was easy to find, staff are wonderful and super friendly, and their pizza is always on point!

Yelp
Meatballs were so dang good. Pizza (both deep dish and thin) was great and served relatively quick. Staff was so attentive and made sure our family was cared for throughout our dinner. Outdoor and indoor space. Prices seem fair for amount and quality of food.
google avatar

Mari H.

Yelp
The pizza here is amazing first time trying it and defenetly will go back no more thin crust for me lol

Yelp
I have been a customer of Zachary's since they opened in 1983! Yes that is correct 40 years! The Pleasant Hill location is easy to find right off the main street and highway 680. Parking is tough in the evenings but there is a large parking garage nearby. The movie theater is right across the street from Zachary's! We were immediately and warmly greeted and seated for early dinner around 4:30. By 5:30 the entire place was packed - so tip - come early! We ordered cider, salad and pizza. Everything was 10/10 perfect! We like both the deep dish and the thin crust. This night we had thin crust and it was cooked perfectly! Crispy and light and full of toppings. The salad was cold and crisp. Our waiter was friendly and efficient and just plain nice! We had great, fast service. We will definitely be back to this location next time we're in the area. If you've never tried a Zachary's you're missing out! There are several locations in the east bay....
google avatar

Diane C.

Yelp
Always tried half baked Zachary's so glad we tried it fresh, either way it was good! We always get the Mediterranean deep dish but got to try the carne and added pineapple. FYI to dine here you have to show your vaccine card. Service was good and the servings are decent. For deep dish it takes about 40-45min to cook so keep that in mind!
google avatar

Izabella Z.

Yelp
1st: PIZZA was burnt. Overall taste was decent, but had much better pizzas. Definitely on the hearty side (ordered 1/2 carne and 1/2 Zachary special-stuffed), tomato sauce loaded (more sauce than toppings) don't know if this is the California wanna be Chicago kind of way. ... 2nd: WAIT-TIME 40 mins on a Wednesday evening, didn't seem like I came during a rush hour. 3rd:^ pricey for what I've received. (40 bucks, seems kind of standard, but an x-large from Dominoes more toppings, buttery seasoned crust, I know it's a different style pizza, but way cheaper, and much more tastier.

Yelp
A great place with good Chicago styled pizza that tastes as good as it looks if you are interested this is a great place to go to get some pizza
