Where to Drink in Charleston Right Now, March 2025

"Despite the opening weekend controversy surrounding King Street newcomer Zachary’s Daiquiris, crowds are still lining up to order frozen boozy beverages, from espresso martinis to frosé. There are 12 slushy machines in the bar, with drinks named after local landmarks, like South of Broad and The Queen. Just don’t wear your athletic wear or ripped jeans after 8 p.m. when the dress code kicks in." - Erin Perkins

Charleston Newcomer Zachary’s Daiquiris Under Fire for Controversial Dress Code | Eater Carolinas

"A new bar devoted to frozen boozy beverages — from espresso martinis to frosé — opened over the weekend and features 12 slushy machines with drinks named after local landmarks like South of Broad and The Queen. The concept was created by employee Zachary Elliott, who says he was inspired by the late Wet Willie’s, and the venue gives a percentage of its proceeds to Make-A-Wish South Carolina because Elliott “was a recipient of a Make-A-Wish as a child diagnosed with a rare bone cancer.” The opening also sparked a public controversy: on March 1 TikTok user Sarah Baus posted a video alleging that a bouncer stood next to a group of Black men in line and declared, “No Jordans. No ripped jeans. No athletic pants,” which Baus believed was targeted at the group. “It hurts my heart thinking about these men standing in line excited about a fun new bar and getting embarrassed publicly like that,” comments another TikTok user. Representatives did not respond to Eater’s questions before March 4; on March 5 co-owner Lamar Bonaparte wrote on Instagram, “In the past few days, I have been asked to make a statement, apologize, and address outlandish allegations about my business on social media—allegations that are not only entirely false, but extremely harmful and discriminatory.” The Instagram caption added, “We have a dress code and it’s enforced AFTER 8PM. If you don’t like the way we do business, DON’T COME.” The venue’s Instagram posted a dress code on March 1 stating that after 8 p.m. the following are not permitted: athletic wear, gym attire, ripped/frayed/patched jeans, jersey, graphic tee, tank tops, hoodies, Crocs/slides; web archives indicate that list was not part of the website as of February 16. Since the TikTok video many viewers have left poor Google and Yelp ratings citing racism; for example, Yelp user Bella W. wrote, “Racist! [the bar], don’t be naive. You know what happened opening night. Not going to be giving any business or attention after what I’ve heard. Own up to it and resolve the madness. It’s 2025. Really disappointing.” The controversy drew extra attention because the operator is Republic Hospitality, whose co-owners appear on Bravo reality shows Southern Charm and Southern Hospitality, prompting viewers to name-drop Leva and Lamar Bonaparte in comments — one user wrote, “Leva is married to a Black man and has a son with him. This is BIZARRE!!! Has she said anything yet??” Update: March 5, 2024, 2:04 p.m.: the article was updated to include comments from Lamar Bonaparte." - Erin Perkins

Google
Great little spot for happy hour! Went here with friends and tried their signature daiquiri, the sullivan, and the Charleston! Would recommend the first two for sure as they were very yummy! Great vibes for the whole establishment and you really can’t beat the happy hour deals on the frozen margaritas. The dips are good sides with the drinks and are yummy, if a tad overpriced but that’s Charleston for you!! The experience and location make up for it so I would recommend if you want a cute place to grab drinks with girlfriends after work or a day shopping on King street!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Zachary’s Daiquiris in Charleston is such a gem! ✨ The space is exquisitely decorated and has such a fun, welcoming vibe. The food portions are huge and absolutely delicious 🍤🍔—definitely worth every bite! What really makes this spot shine is their incredible variety of daiquiris. From rum to vodka (and everything in between), they’ve got something for everyone 🍓🍋🍹. They even offer wines and mixed drinks if that’s more your style. We were lucky enough to meet the general manager, Robert, who shared about the kindness behind this business. 💕 Zachary’s donates proceeds to the Make-A-Wish Foundation . That alone makes this place so special, but paired with amazing drinks, food, and atmosphere—it’s a must-visit! Whether you’re looking for a quick bite or your new go-to cocktail spot, Zachary’s Daiquiris has it all. We can’t wait to come back! 💖

Google
KB was great. I had a really my elite review typed out from Chat GPT but I’ll leave it at he’s the GOAT. He pushed the nozzle open really well on The Sullivan. Thnx HAGS.

Google
Very friendly staff, great drinks, and atmosphere! The vibes are great here :) Enjoyed some patio sunshine. I ordered the Sullivan Pina Colada. They also had a cute shop inside with Charleston themed items. Sweatshirts were adorable!

Admittedly I was skeptical about trying this place with all the negative attention. However I ran into a young man at Charleston Black expo who encouraged me to give it a try. Fast forward to yesterday my sister, cousins & I were walking past & were greeted by the door guy. He also encouraged us to try. It was very crowded so we said we’d stop in before we left the area. I’m so glad we did. Even though there was still a bit of a crowd we sat at the bar. I had the absolute best sangria, along with a tasty flat bread, The Simple”, the buffalo chicken dip was outrageously delicious served with warm sourdough bread. My advice is to order extra bread. Here are a few pictures. Unfortunately I didn’t snap one of the dip and we devoured the flatbread before I got a little snip. Big Lee , the young lady with the long dark hair & glasses and the young man with the locs are awesome assets to this business. I can’t forget the lady with the cute flamingo earrings. Overall we had a good experience and will be back. I wish I took more photos but we were just enjoying ourselves. SN: We saw Big Lee down the street after we left. I told him he looked huggable and he gave me a big bear hug. Such a sweetie pie!

Yelp
Simply delicious and wonderful experience. I highly recommend. Staff was extra nice and Service was quick. The daiquiri I had was strong and not overly sweet. It's a great place. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
This vibe is exactly what Charleston needs. Perfect location, right in the middle of all different bar scenes on King, and their drinks are very strong--but easy to take down. Their sampler platter was amazing and with it being only $30 you could easily split it with friends. Work staff came up to our table and chatted with us and made sure we were accounted for. I highly recommend!!

Yelp
Headed to Charleston for Spring Break next month. First time traveling with our young adult children being legal drinking age. Always looking for recommendations of fun places to take them. THIS IS NOT THE PLACE. Dress code of no athletic pants, no ripped jeans (can you even buy jeans without distress on them?) and no Jordan's. My sneaker head kids would not be welcome here. Well, maybe they would because they have the right skin tone.... Yet we won't be spending our dollars at this establishment. I will keep searching for fun places to take them but now my emphasis will be on places that are black owned.

Yelp
Zero stars if I could. They're outwardly racist with a lot of proof (changing dress codes during grand opening to exclude a group of black men, when many white men were wearing the same thing and admitted without issue?). They're deleting comments and blocking people who call them out on Instagram, too, and created a second Google page to steer review traffic away from the first one as many people - including the men turned away for no reason - wrote reviews about them. Super shady business practices. Was excited to go as Charleston needs somewhere like this, but will steer as much traffic as possible away from there.

Yelp
Racist! Zachary's Daquiris, don't be naive. You know what happened opening night. Not going to be giving any business or attention after what I've heard. Own up to it and resolve the madness. It's 2025. Really disappointing.

Yelp
Explained that it was my first time and the waitress could not care less. I came with a big group of my freshly 21 friends because we are in Charleston to celebrate, and they were not very welcoming. Rude service, underwhelming experience. Would not recommend.

Beatrice E.

Yelp
Service could improve. Not very welcoming ambiance. Nothing else to add. Disappointing.

Yelp
Great daiquiris. Manager Jim s young and friendly. Fun atmosphere. Drinks are delicious. Staff is awesome.

Yelp
South of Broad and The IOP were both exceptional Daqs....Food Looked good...Too busy drinkin' to eat....Expensive though...Not a fan of the pricing...Guess Rent and Insurance are OOFC...

Yelp
