We had a steamed red snapper (cantonese style), ngoh hiang, and bittergourd with eggs for 2 pax. The fish was really fresh and tender. Needless to say, we demolished it! For a larger group, it’ll be fun to order steamed fish of different cooking styles to try out, eg, 1 Cantonese style (soy sauce based) and 1 Teochew style (lighter in taste with sour plum).

A must try if you want fresh steamed fish. Their other dishes are delicious as well. You can have it with teochew porridge or rice. We came during lunch time, and getting a table would be difficult. Fortunately, we were able to find a table within 5 minutes. We joined the queue and ordered within 20 minutes. Every dish complemented the meal.

Google
A Neighborhood Gem for fresh teochew-style steamed fish. This place serves up incredibly fresh fish, delicately steamed in authentic teochew style. Light, clean flavors with just the right touch of umami make it perfect for both family meals and entertaining guests. A satisfying experience for all ages—from kids to grandparents. If you’re looking for a true local spot with honest, traditional flavors, this is it. Double thumbs up! 👍👍

If you’re looking for one of Singapore’s best spots for a hearty and authentic Teochew-style meal, Zai Shun Curry Fish Head is an absolute must-visit! Known for its incredibly fresh seafood and perfectly executed dishes, this humble eatery has earned a loyal following over the years—and for good reason. Their signature Curry Fish Head is a showstopper. The fish is always fresh, tender, and cooked to perfection, while the curry strikes the perfect balance between rich, tangy, and mildly spicy, complementing the fish without overpowering its natural sweetness. It's a dish that keeps diners coming back for more! Beyond the curry fish head, Zai Shun is also famous for its steamed fish selection, featuring premium options like Soon Hock, Parrot Fish, and Red Garoupa. Each fish is expertly steamed to retain its delicate texture and natural flavors, paired with a light soy sauce that enhances its sweetness. Their homemade tofu, bitter gourd with salted egg, he bi hiam (dried shrimps in sambal & spices) and chap chye are also crowd favorites—simple yet incredibly flavorful. Despite its popularity, the prices remain reasonable for the quality you get. The eatery operates in a no-frills, hawker-style setting, so expect a casual dining experience with quick service. However, do come early, as their best dishes sell out fast, especially on weekends! Since 2017, Zai Shun Curry Fish Head has been consistently recognized in the Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand list, offering high-quality food at reasonable prices. This recognition underscores the restaurant's commitment to delivering exceptional Teochew-style dishes, including their renowned curry fish head, in fact the owner of this infamous restaurant confidently assured me that he only served fresh fish to his patrons. In summary, whether you’re a local food lover or a visitor hunting for authentic Singaporean flavors, Zai Shun Curry Fish Head is a must-try. One taste, and you’ll understand why it’s one of the city’s most beloved dining spots! Remember to also try the unique refreshing “hand beat”lemonade / lime juice while dining here.

I have been wanting to try the food at Zai Shun for a few years now, but have always been a bit lazy to travel there. I finally went in May 2025. I looked at other reviews to determine what to order, and we ended up with steamed pomfret, bitter gourd fried egg, hebi hiam, brinjal, fish cake and sweet sour pork. We also got some hand made lemon tea from the drinks stall at the coffee shop. The food was generally okay, but I found some of the dishes to be a bit too salty. I was very thirsty after I got home. I really enjoyed the soup from the steamed pomfret. All this food and 3 bowls of rice, excluding the lemon tea, was $103. It is likely I will return to try their other steamed fish dishes.

Google
Recommended by family members and also saw on YouTube for the freshness of their steam fish. We had Pomfret steam in Teochew style and also Grouper steam in HK style. Both are fresh and taste great. Had a few small simple dishes of veggies and a sweet & sour pork with plain porridge. Dishes are very average though. Total price came up to S$170 for a breakfast.

Finding seats may be difficult, we went around 11.14am, took 10mins, Queuing for order very long but was served very fast. A popular eating place that deserved Michelin Star. Although never try their curry fish head. Bitter gourd fried egg was the best of all the dishes. Two other vegetable dishes not recommended. Price quite reasonable, $121 for 7pax.

Google
$45 for the steamed fish which was very fresh and tender. Definitely famous and crowded during lunch time for good reason. Apparently it's even worse on the weekends, unsurprising. Got a seat and our food pretty quickly. Thankfully cooling enough when seated directly under the ceiling fan. Come in a bigger group to try more dishes!

Yelp
Fabulous fabulous, marvelous fish place! If you liked steam fish, come here! If you are thinking of going to Johor to eat cheaper fish, forget about it and come here! Save yourself the trip. Fishes here are priced way below what they are served at in restaurants. Fishes are caught fresh every morning and served until only that afternoon. They put the fishes in this boiler kinda thing and let it steam through. The end result is a fish with tender and steamy flesh ready to be eaten. The sides are also cooked very well. We enjoyed the bittergourd dish with salted eggs very much. One small gripe I have about this place is I wished they work on the fish preservation or marination a bit more. There is a very slight fishiness taste if you come a bit later like 2pm or so. Come early, get your fresh fish and you will be fine.

Yelp
Absolutely fabulous! !!! It is no wonder that it is so famous! Their supply of fishes for steamed fish is soooo fresh!!! I love their prawn meat rolls! We ordered: 1. Steamed fish with bean paste (my first time eating it with bean paste) 2. Sambal Kang Kong 3. Fried prawn meat rolls 4. Salad prawns 5. Hotplate tofu Yum!!! Every plate was wiped clean! I am definitely coming back again!!!

Yelp
This stall actually serves a large variety of food apart from the usual curry fish head. I ordered the steamed shark head and pomfret following the recommendations of my friends, and to put it simply, the two dishes were excellent! The pomfret was especially fresh and did not have that fishy flavor that you would find in fish that is not so fresh anymore. However, one thing that I disliked was that the service is not as friendly, probably because they were very busy with customers. No smiles, just quick and cursory service. But anyway, I was here for the food so I did not care too much about the service either. They also serve some simple yet delicious dishes, such as fried eggs with minced meat and long beans with belacan. Both dishes were excellent and went well with whatever fish that we were eating. Do give this stall a try and you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I don't really eat bitter gourd, but the salted egg with bitter gourd here is really to die for. It doesn't taste bitter at all and has the aromatic egg yolk with fried eggs. i suspect salted bean curd is added to the dish as well. This is one dish you definitely have to order when you're there. This store also serves Curry Fish head as depicted on their signage, but they are also popular for steam fish and teochew porridge. Driving all the way to Jurong is definitely worth it - remember it only opens in the afternoons though!

Yelp
This place is packed every day for a good reason. The grouper we ordered was fresh and perfectly steamed. Equally delicious was the braised pork belly, which was simmered in an umami-rich soy sauce perfect for spooning over rice. Even the beverages here are far from ordinary: we all had the popular soursop drink, freshly squeezed from the fruit. Expect to pay around $30+ per pax.

Yelp
Made a special trip all the way to Jurong to try their food after my mum brought home takeaways from this stall. Must-trys is this fish of bitter gourd and salted egg. This was delish. I don't really enjoy bitter gourd but when cooked this way, the salted egg took away its bitter taste! It seems like the must try dish here is also the steam pomfret and pig trotters. You can choose to order a plate of rice with 2 dishes (cai peng style) at $3.50 or order cue char style. Overall the prices here are quite reasonable.
