"A collective favorite of ours is Zakkushi, which shows how much we love the flavors of Japan. The char-grilled skewers remind us of similar dishes and techniques used in Vietnam. The atmosphere is lively, as well as casual, which makes it a perfect place to go on the regular." - Michael He

This place is always super busy, reservation recommend. I finally ended up visiting after attempting for countless times. Their skewers are really unique, I would defiantly recommend. Everything was yummy, would definitely come back. I was surprised that the cucumbers weren’t marinated though and the portions are small, but a decent amount for me.

Let's start off that the service is fantastic. 5/5. My deepest impression is that one of the servers automatically gave me new tissues after noticing mine was dirty. This is what I called service. I'm happy to give them a big tip just for that. The overall environmental is awesome. It's clean. It's dark and moody. There are bright spot lights shining down at each tables - which draw your focal points to the foods and the people that you are dining with. The foods were awesome. The charcoal grill enhanced the flavour of the ingredients. All of the foods on the day were perfectly made. Nothing were overcooked. I especially recommend the age mochi. I love the beef tongue too. The chickens are great as well. I suggest getting to eggplant to refresh the palate The washroom is clean and moody. Just like the overall of the restaurant. They have mouth wash available just incase you have an important meeting right after the tasty meal. Would definitely come here for a quick bite or something small to go with some drinks. Wouldn't come here to get full - because it can get pricy. But i think it's worth a visit to experience the environment and the charcoal flavour.

It was an amazing experience with excellent service! We ordered a lot, but the most impressive dish was the premium beef tongue. It was cooked perfectly—extremely tender and juicy, not tough at all, and easily the best beef tongue I’ve ever had. The chicken meatball skewer was average, nothing special, and a bit salty. The best dishes were the beef, followed by pork, and then the chicken options. The assorted oden is highly recommended—it was stunning, with an excellent broth. For drinks, we had the shiso mojito and yuzu highball; both were great, but I’d especially recommend the shiso mojito.

Google
The skewers seemed thinner and I didn’t recall the onigiri was that small. I couldn’t taste any whisky in my Oolong Hai and my partner’s Yuzu High just sweet and tasted non alcoholic, ended up ordering another beer, which was a much better choice. We still enjoyed a good evening. Food was tasty, service was friendly and place was lively, but couldn’t get the shrinkflation feeling off my head.

I come here at least every couple of months, if not more. The food and service are always excellent and consistent. I love that they have rotating fresh sheets, so there's always something new to try if you’re a regular. If you're planning to go on a Friday or Saturday night, make sure to book a reservation at least a week in advance. This cozy vibe reminds me of the izakayas I went to in Japan. There's even a button by the smaller tables to call for service, so you won’t be forgotten in the tucked-away seats. They offer a selection of Japanese beers and sakes, though their non-alcoholic drinks tend to be quite sugary. I really miss their matcha parfait topped with a matcha lava cake for $9.80—they no longer offer it. But the matcha and black sesame ice cream are delicious, just a bit on the small side. There are so many standout dishes here, though the ankimo was the only one I didn’t care for. They have overcooked the beef tongue and lamb chops a couple of times too. The two of us typically spend around $90-120 depending on our appetite. We always order two Zakkushi sets, a karaage or Negi-toro don, two drinks, and sometimes a fresh sheet item, extra skewers, or a dessert to top it off.

Great interior design, nice people, tasty yakitori selection, service became slow in the middle but it was okay. The food was delicious.

Google
Very nice kushi place. Closer to an izakaya than a kushi shop in Japan. Decor is unmistakably Japan and the food is surprisingly tasty for a shop outside Japan. They don't have many yakitori options, but they supplement it with meat kushi, Oden, salad and sashimi. Big junk beer is nice...

Google
Ordered lots of food, my favourites were Hokkaido Scallop sashimi - so fresh! Gindara Saikyo Yaki - yummy! Giant Scallop Oropon Beef Uzura Maki - quail eggs + sliced pork Mé Maki - garlic stems + sliced pork

Yelp
Zakkushi on Main is straight-up fire, yo. This joint's got that real-deal Japanese izakaya vibe that hits harder than a bass drop in a trap beat. You roll up in there, and it's like you just teleported to the backstreets of Tokyo--mad cozy, low-key lit, and dripping with that authentic vibe. The yakitori skewers? Bruh, these ain't your average BBQ sticks. They're char-grilled to perfection, smokier than a cypher session, and so juicy they make your mouth do backflips. The menu's stacked, but the hot dishes are the real MVPs. The sashimi's cool and all, but if you ain't smashin' those skewers, you're playin' yourself. The staff? They're all about that friendly hustle, keeping it 100 even when the place is busier than a hypebeast sneaker drop. But no cap, you might wanna pull up with a reservation 'cause this spot stays poppin' every night. Bottom line? Zakkushi on Main ain't just a restaurant; it's a vibe, a mood, and a whole damn experience. Pull up, grub down, and thank me later.

Yelp
They specialize in Japanese BBQ, especially Yakitori - Japanese skewered chicken. They have a Yakitoti chef on a daily basis. This place has been around for over a decade at least. While the restaurants near by have changed so many times, they are still here. This place is always busy. Reservation in advance is necessary. My friend and I went on a weekday evening. The store front has a dark and wooden classic Japanese theme decorated by a row of hanging white paper lanterns. Almost unnoticeable from outside, but as soon as you walk in, the warmth and vibe plus the smell of the food stimulates all your senses. We were on time, and the host welcomed us cordially. She took us to a tight 2-seater booth shortly. It was around Christmas, and the interior decor was a bit Christmasy. We ordered many different kinds of skewers although they also serve a relatively fewer options of sashimi, appetizers, salad and cold tapas, hot tapas, oden, rice and udon, etc. We ordered cocktail: - Berry berry cassis soda - Peach ginger Both of them taste very refreshing and contain the flavour of the ingredients plus the alcohol. My favourite has to be: lamb chop, scallop, garlic stem wrapped in sliced pork, the chicken and the beef, etc. It's a nice combo in the Zakkushi set, which has 5 skewers of beef, pork, and chicken with different seasoning. They have a choice of either sea salt or teriyaki option for some single skewers. Their homemade roasted green tea tiramisu (Hojicha Tiramisu) was a must try as it carries the full body flavour of hojicha plus the creaminess of the cream and spongy cake. One critique is their ordering sheet. There is no lines and it's hard to line up the number next to the item you want to order. The server didn't recap the items on the ordering sheet. In case you order the wrong item, they will refuse to change it. Free store front parking is limited. It's either meter parking or some free street parking if you're lucky.

Yelp
I love this restaurant, and booking through Yelp is always easy. The food is delicious, and the service is excellent. I haven't been back in over two years due to moving, but they used to serve thick-cut grilled beef tongue skewers. Now, they only offer thin slices, which is a bit disappointing. Still, I'll keep returning because the flavors always capture the essence of authentic Japanese cuisine.

Jenny L.

Yelp
This cute little restaurant offers a variety of skewer options. Prices seem reasonable, but food portions are on the smaller side. The meat is good and tender. The Japanese skewers here are delicious, offering a wide range of flavors and textures. From beef to seafood, there's something for everyone. We ordered quite a bit of food for our family of four, and even our children loved it! Our total was $224 before tipping. The service was nice and attentive. The parking lot is small, with hardly any spots available.

John C.

Yelp
Over the years, I tried stopping here for a meal, but it was always so busy I never ever ended up trying it. But during the recent Car Free Day event, this place was quieter than usual, so we stopped in here for lunch. It's dark, dimly lit place, which is a good atmosphere for just hanging out, drinking and snacking. We tried a variety of items, and all were good. I like yakitori spots because it's a chance to try a bunch of little things, but the cost adds up quickly. Our lunch ended up being much more expensive than I had anticipated, so going on a completely empty stomach was not a good idea. Service was polite and attentive. No issues. Overall, a good visit. Good food, good atmosphere and good service. Best suited for just hanging out, as a opposed to purely for a meal.

Yelp
Several months ago, we went to this Japanese yakitori restaurant for dinner. We ordered a variety of items: miyazaki wagyu, short rib, pork belly, momo, tsukune, sockeye salmon sashimi, gindara saikyo yaki(grilled black cod), mentai carbonara udon, yakioni(grilled rice ball), and giant scallop. Standouts were the tsukune, scallops, mentai carbonara udon, and sockeye salmon sashimi. The miyazaki wagyu was $19/skewer but it was a bit of a letdown. I expected to be a melt in your mouth kind of wagyu beef but it was a bit chewy. Otherwise, it was a pretty good meal.

Chelsia L.

Yelp
Maybe it's because we lack izakayas in seattle but this place hits the Japanese vibes and taste! The marinate for the food were all delicious, but it could be even better if they had more char on the food. Our server was also kind and welcoming so I'm excited to come back!

Suki H.

Yelp
High quality of food, very tasty. This was our second year to celebrate birthday here. Will definitely go back again!

Christy P.

Yelp
So tasty. The servers were accommodating, letting us sit earlier than our reservation. The food came out promptly. Some standouts: - Me maki (garlic stems wrapped in sliced pork) - Uzura maki (quail eggs wrapped in sliced pork) - Shiokonbu cabbage I also tried the sesame ice cream, it had a nice soft texture.

Bowie T.

Yelp
Haven't been here in a few years, came with my partner for a early dinner. Super quiet on a Sunday evening. We were the only table for about a half hour (5pm). Ordered a variety of skewers, hot and cold appies and cold sake. Pros: - Food is delicious as always, great quality and simple flavors - Push buttons for service installed at every table - Ordering is done on little menu check-box sheets (like dim sum) makes ordering super easy Notes: - On the pricier side for a casual spot, understandable with inflation, etc. ($160 for two of us) - Parking lot gets full easy and zakkushi only has three designated spots. Free parking on the inside streets west of Main St. in the residential area

Wes Y.

Yelp
Love the fact that they open late. The place has a really nice Late Night Kitchen kind of ambiance, I feel relaxed. Food is good, however depending who the chef is that night, skewers are not always cooked exactly the same

Frank C.

Yelp
Little Tapas type menu, but definitely, Japanese. Food and the taste was fantastic, but also we get full very quickly, but tried our a lot of different items. Most items are prepared on a skewer, so easy to pick up with chopsticks or fingers. We sat right at the front of house, so it was very noisy, with host and hostess and waiters all yelling at each other . Some peace and quiet would be nice while we enjoyed our dinner. Pricy but worth it. Good bar service with Japanese draft beer on tap yes I would return to try more items.

Carlos H.

Yelp
We came to enjoy some izakaya fare and drinks. The food was good and so were the drinks. The service was definitely not friendly or respectful though. We agreed when we visited we would be done by a certain time. The waitress kept coming by our table and checking her watch impatiently. Clearly trying to make us uncomfortable or make us leave quicker. Never mind that we're spending $200 in a meat stick restaurant and ordered quality sake. We had an agreed time to leave and were happy to be done by then but it was super rude yo. Anyway, we closed on time like I knew we would. There was no reason to make the last half hour totally uncomfortable and to just drag the check out like that. If it was up to me they'd get no tip. Terrible service! Do not recommend. I would not return.

Jason F.

Yelp
The only downside is that some skewers tend to be in the pricey side but the premium items are delicious. The lamb is amazing as well as the premium beef tongue. Food comes at a good pace and the servers are very attentive:

Yelp
Came here at 7:45 on February 26 (Saturday) for a date night. The place was packed but we were promptly seated since we had a reservation at that time. The staff was nice, and it did make the experience a bit more 'authentic' since I was able to talk to them in my mother tongue. We ordered a lot of food so I'm going to try my best to break them down. Special skewer of the day (I forgot the name but it was a special part of the chicken heart) 5/5 It was AMAZING. Much more tender than the regular chicken heart with a lot of flavor. Wagyu-Don 3.5/5 Would not repeat. Don't get me wrong, the meat was great. But it was one very thin slice. And the meat was smaller than the picture in comparison to the bowl. They gave us two bowls to split between the two of us, but the meat was hard to split and share. There was also way too much rice for the amount of meat you get even though the bowl was small to begin with. Definitely not worth $22.50 either. Ryu-kyu 4.5/5 If you like yellowtail, it's a good dish to try. I loved the combination of the dish and shiso (Japanese basil), but my partner did not enjoy the shiso, as it was too overpowering for her. Zakkushi Set (thigh, umé-shiso, me-maki, p-toro, oropon beef) $15 3.5/5 I was quite surprised to see that they chose these skewers as their 'set', and not things like tsukune (chicken meatballs), ton-toro (pork jowl), gizzard, chicken skin. Umé (sour plum) with shiso was forgettable and not too juicy. Mé-maki is a skewer with garlic stem wrapped with sliced pork. It was perfect. Crunchy garlic stem with a juicy slice of pork. P-toro was very tasty and juicy Oropon beef was a good combo but the meat tasted a bit dry and very chewy Tori-kawa (Chicken skin) 3.5/5 My partner liked the crispy-ness but I found it way too crispy than the ones I'm using to eating in Japan so I did not enjoy it as much as she did. Tsukune (chicken meatballs) and Nori-mayo tsukune 2.5/5 I was quite disappointed by this one, partly because it was my childhood favourite back in Japan. The meat was small, bland, and it just did not have a great texture either. The nori-mayo did make it taste a bit better but it was just not good. Uzura-maki (quail egg wrapped in pork) 4.5/5 Tastes exactly like you imagine. Solid skewer. Mochi-maki 3/5 Not exactly sure what I was expecting, but we didn't really enjoy it. The other mochi dishes we tried were great though. Ikada (Japanese leek) 4/5 We loved how sweet the leek was and how it blended well with the sauce. The only reason why it's a 4 was because the last piece in the skewer was undercooked and it was spicy. Elingi (king oyster mushroom) 4/5 These were good but it was hard to taste the butter by the time it came to the table. Yaki-onigili (Soy sauce and Soy sauce with butter) 3.5/5 The char on the grilled rice ball was great but the flavor was definitely lacking even though they seemed small enough to brush on a good amount of flavor. Houlensou no Goma-ae (spinach tossed in sesame) 3.5/5 It was good but it tasted a little off than what I am used to or have tasted in the past in Japan to make me want to order it again. It was also a bit more bitter than I expected. Ika Mentai (squid tossed in marinated cod roe) 4.5/5 I LOVED how they cut the squid. It really improved the texture and the overall taste with the cod roe. Was a bit disappointed by the amount of shiso they put on, which was not like the picture at all. Age-mochi (fried mochi) 4.5/5 Crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Solid dish. Tako-yaki 4/5 Solid dish tako-yaki in Canada. Just wish the octopus was a bit bigger. Oden highlights We also ordered a couple oden, and I just wanted to mention Mochi-kinchaku. It's called 'Sticky rice' on the menu, but it's basically mochi (sticky rice cake) inside fried tofu. You can tell that it absorbs the soup well and the mochi is very soft and floppy like it's supposed to be. We loved it. Konjac (yam cake) was a piece that my partner really enjoyed due to the hard jelly-like texture. Drinks We did enjoy the yuzu calpis (calpico) series a lot. It was like juice so it can be a bit dangerous lol Yuzu shibori was also nice, but the lychee pineapple was a bit too sweet and the pineapple overpowered the yuzu in our opinion. Dessert Dorayaki with Matcha icecream Dorayaki is a traditional Japanese dish that has redbean inside a Japanese pancake. For the price, I thought it was great. I loved waiting for the icecream melt a tiny bit before inhaling it. Overall, we really enjoyed the experience here, and I was very grateful that our waiter (Unfortunately, I forgot to ask his name) chased after us to hand us our takeout box. Thanks a lot!

Carol c.

Yelp
Great experience at dining here! Servers were polite and efficient. Food are excellent

Aerica W.

Yelp
Love this place for Japanese yakitori izakaya. I've only been to their Main St location (parking is quite difficult during peak hours - you have been warned! There's a little parking lot that is shared with other restaurants in the small plaza, and most of the street side parking is permit only). Overall it is a bit pricy, but I do think it is worth it every once in a while because of the quality and top notch flavours/charcoal grill. It's difficult to get a full stomach purely off skewers, so I recommend it as a snack/late night sort of meal. Zakkushi Set $15: My go-to starter if I'm bringing new people to try/sample their menu. Comes with 5 different skewers Mentai Carbonara Udon $16+: Super creamy and flavourful. Has a leaky egg on top too. Giant Scallops $8: Ginormous, juicy and buttery. I also go the wagyu skewer (not pictured) that literally melted in my mouth. Roughly $12 for 1 skewer.

Emily W.

Yelp
Food was amazing! We had a great time there on a Friday night, parking is hard to come by but not a huge deal :) Favorites were the Umeshiso Yaki, Mé Maki, Saikyo Miso Beef and Mochi Maki. Desert was also one of the best we have ever had! Overall 10/10

Conny G.

Yelp
This has to be the first time I've been let down by a meal and experience and then after when I get snubbed for a follow up response For the price point of this place save your money or go somewhere else Trust me After the $200+ bill with zero customer service, a non existent management team and sub par food you will understand

Audrey T.

Yelp
I love zakkushi! One of the best spots in Vancouver for Japanese skewers and izakaya. The ingredients are extremely fresh and the service is quick. Definitely make a reservation and go with a few people to try everything! The yakitori here is unreal. I love getting the premium set. Everything is seasoned well. It's $35 for 5 premium skewers: Wagyu Short Ribs, Rib-Eye, Premium Beef Tongue, Duck Breast and Lamb Chop. I also love getting extra skewers - someone my favorites include the beef tongue, p-toro, quail eggs and chicken gizzard. I love their hot tapas as well. The mochi is so good! The ebi mayo is also a classic. The oden is also very tasty - you can get an assortment of 5 (chefs choice) for $9.90. Always room for dessert - the ice cream is always a hit!

Alexus Y.

Yelp
Hands down one of my top restaurants to venture to whenever I'm in Vancouver. I'm soo glad.. but also really sad that someone introduced it to me because I've yet to find a place similar to Zakkushi near me. Their variety of yakitori is unparalleled and sooo good. My highest recommendations would be: * Horumon (pork intestine with teriyaki sauce) * Yakoni with butter + soy sauce * Uzura Maki (quail eggs + sliced pork) * And you genuinely can't go wrong with any of the beef options. I'd highly recommend making a reservation in advance. This place is a must-try when you're in Vancouver.

D C.

Yelp
Great authentic Japanese food and service! We'll definitely be back. It's usually not hard to find Japanese Izakaya at big cities but we are definitely pleasantly surprised by the quality. We enjoyed every single item we ordered here.

Jennifer Y.

Yelp
Has a good selection of tapas and $10 house sake. We don't stay out late anymore but Zakkushi also closes much later than the surrounding restaurants making it one of our favourite go to places. The oden here feels the most authentic, which is why it's one of our must haves here. Make sure to call in advance as it is a smaller place and seating is limited.

Simon P.

Yelp
I had a great time at Zakkushi. Each order Japanese skewer tapas were delicious and textured. I had no problems with the service as well. Just overall a really great time with friends over drinks and good Japanese music! Maybe the prices could be cheaper but we are eating with inflated pandemic meat prices, I guess.

S C.

Yelp
We had a bday celebration here and they did an absolutely fantastic job making it a memorable time! The food was as delicious as when we had yakitori in Japan! The service was impeccable! And it was great ambiance & vibe w/ good music level for conversation and privacy! Definitely recommend!

Cam C.

Yelp
We love this place, Zakkushi is a fun restaurant with amazing food, can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The service is fast, as the waiters are very attentive and food comes out quickly. Good music, fun environment, would highly recommend!

Taylor A.

Yelp
The service here is always so welcoming, friendly, and fast. I have been here over 5 times and enjoyed every experience here. The food is spectacular. Thank you!

philip l.

Yelp
My favorite izakaya but tonight the tempura/deep fried dishes are off. Seems like the oil temperature wasn't right. The rest of the dishes are as good as usual. Excellent service from everyone.

Dianna H.

Yelp
Come here for delicious yakitori / skewers, though it won't be a cheap meal. I came for dinner with 4 others earlier this month on a Sunday at 7:30 pm. We made reservations since it was a larger group and we knew this was a popular spot. There's a small parking lot in front shared with the other businesses in the plaza, but there is plenty of street parking as well. The space isn't very big and felt cozy. There are some smaller tables for groups of 2-4 as well as some booths. It was a bit of a tight squeeze for the 5 of us to squeeze into a booth, so I recommend coming here with a smaller group. We ordered a beer pitcher to share, and our server asked for two pieces of ID from everyone. They're pretty strict with checking IDs here for alcohol, according to other folks who had been here before. The menu can be scanned via a barcode on the table, and they also have a specials menu printed out. You order by filling out a sheet of paper that has most of their menu items listed. They make it easy to order multiple rounds of food by having separate columns for up to 3 rounds. I wasn't in charge of the ordering so I don't remember exactly what we got, but we ordered the Zakkushi set which comes with 5 different types of chicken, pork, and beef skewers, and supplemented it with some additional skewers and other orders. Some of my favorites were the P-toro (pork), tsukune (chicken meatballs), and oropon beef. There were a couple Japanese people in my group and everyone agreed the food was authentic and delicious. Would highly recommend for anyone who enjoys skewers / yakitori!

Suanne L.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a weekday. An izakaya restaurant that sells a lot of different skewers. The skewers can become pricey really quickly because they are at least $2.00/skewer. Nonetheless, I enjoy eating here because of the different varieties. My favourite thing to get here are the chicken gizzards because they're very chewy. It's worth it to get a yakitori set, then order a larger item to fill you up. They currently have summer drink menu. I ordered a beer that had yuzu syrup on it, which was tasty. The yuzu syrup tasted like the ones you would find in Korean supermarkets that is used to make yuzu tea. It balanced really well with the taste of the beer. Would give 4 stars just for the food, but for its price range I'd have to bump it down to 3 as it is on the more expensive side.

Kristy K.

Yelp
Love it! A nice dainty place for some japanese skewers + beer on a Friday evening. The bill can add up easily but the quality is there :)

Priscilla Y.

Yelp
Got some take out from this place today and although its expensive for small portions, their meat is grilled very nicely and I could tell it was of higher quality (especially because we got beef tongue and it wasn't chewy). We went with 2 of their yakitori sets which had chicken, beef and pork. Some of the chicken tsukune with cheese and with nori mayo, beef tongue, beef wagyu meatball, and chicken karaage. The fried chicken was very good but quite oily on the bottom. All of the meats were tasty with the pork and garlic stems being one of my favourites and the chicken meatballs were very tasty even without the topping. Overall, if you are willing to spend some money, their food here is quite good but you need quite a few skewers to be full!

Ricky C.

Yelp
The yakitori is incredible! Its so delicious, but it does start getting quite expensive if you keep ordering more and more. The zakkushi set is a good teaser to a variety, but my favourites are the chicken momo skewer, chicken liver, chicken heart, the green onion with pork wrapped around it (Me Maki), the saikyo miso beef, ika mentai, and oden. They had a special oyster gratin dish I thought was also stand out! The only dish I didn't think was that great was the toro salmon sashimi, which I thought was a bit too lean. The service is awesome and its always a fun place to dine with people!

Crystal L.

Yelp
Very delicious and there's a wide variety. It is on the more expensive side but the food is worth the price. The workers are also very kind and welcoming!

Pawel P.

Yelp
Oh my good lord... Absolutely "must go" if you like high quality meats with cheese or without, with grilled veggies...and delicious soups on top of that? They get super busy... wonder why? hmm? I will return there each time I visit Vancouver. The vibe of this place still has a special place in memory and I will praise them every time someone asks me for the best restaurant spots in Vancouver. Can't wait to dine there again!

KaiLi L.

Yelp
Food overall has always been amazing. Services very prompt even when they are busy. Just need to make reservations first. Always.

Marina B.

Yelp
Recently my bf has been doing keto so it's made our restaurant options a lot more limited these days. It's very difficult to find a place to go out to eat for dinner without cheating so Zakkushi was great for that. Their food is not overly seasoned, saucy or sweet. We arrived just after 11 and they had already done last call, but they graciously still sat us and let us put an order through. We ordered a lot to be on the safe side since it was last call, too much for sure. But it made for a great snack the next day. We started off with some tapas - edamame, spinach gomae, tako wasabi (all were great). I loved that the sauce for the gomae was very simple and pure, perfect for when you are trying to eat healthy. Next we had some of the veggie skewers (mushroom, okra and tomato) all were delicious, perfectly crisp. Next we had A LOT OF meat skewers that my boyfriend ordered. Meat skewers are not typically my go to, but these were all cooked to perfection I honestly couldn't help myself. My favourites were probably the lamb chop, the umeshiso yaki, garlic prawns and giant scallop. The me maki and p-toro were also really good as well as the garlic and Orepon beef. Though, The nori mayo Tsukune was a bit heavy for my mood at the time, but it was tasty, reminded me of takoyaki We also had a bowl of oden with daikon and fish cake. I love how simple it is. Service was great, super accommodating and prompt.

Shinobu D.

Yelp
Food was okay but service was so slow . We needed to wait for a long time to Oder. I was bit disappointed . Over all quality gets down .

Jack T.

Yelp
Great fish and chips, and other options. The salmon sandwich is great. They also have an assortment of fresh fish and condiments and sauces for sale too. Friendly staff, and cool ambience with the window seats. Stuff is always fresh and tastes great. Very inviting. Really nice not to have to walk to Granville Island or Deep Cove for great fish and chips, poboys, etc. Highly recommend

Yelp
We didn't have reservations but the place wasn't that packed either. There were many open booths & this was at 8:30pm. We were seated at the bar which was a bit of a nuisance, as the waitresses kept walking into my husband's seat, as it was near the entrance to the top walkway of the other booths. So he had to keep readjusting his seat to accommodate room for them to get through. Even as we left there were still empty booths. It was our first time there & the waitress sat us down without really explaining the menu, nor letting us know what the specials were. No one would come by to check on us or even offered water while we waited. We had to flag the waitresses down each time we needed something & even that took awhile as they didn't often see us as we were tucked in the corner of the bar. It slowed down the process of ordering & at one point they forgot a dish we ordered. I gave this place 3 stars because even though their customer service wasn't on point, they were still polite & the food was delicious. Skewers were very flavourful. The deep fried stuff wasn't heavy on the batter yet had the perfect crisp. Their sashimi was fresh & good portion for the price. You have to try their Yuzu Mojito! Tastes like summer. They also have a Yuzu cider that I wished I got to try. Maybe next time. Will definitely go back as there's lots to try on their

Yelp
Amazing experience! I took my husband here for the first time and he was blown away. We had an early dinner elsewhere but wanted to get some small bites & drinks to end off our night. We didn't think we would be all that hungry but after our first bites, we were hooked! My hubby and I were amazed at the quality and flavor of each kushiyaki. They had a beautiful char and were cooked to perfection! To start, we ordered the Duck Carpaccio, Premium Set, Chicken Liver, Chicken Heart, Quail eggs wrapped in pork, and Garlic stems wrapped in pork. They were all out of this world! The chicken liver was so succulent and melt in your mouth. We ended up ordering two more the next round. The Duck Carpaccio was insanely delicious. It was like heaven on a plate! Every single item on the Premium Set was worth it! They were all so good but the wagyu and lamb stole the show. The waygu was buttery, juicy and tende. The lamb chop was perfectly cooked, we cleaned off the bone! After that round we had one kushiyaki each of the Chicken Liver and shared a Wagyu donburi. The wagyu don was great but it didn't come with much meat and the meat was super thin, I think you get like 3-4 slices. I would much have rather order under Premium Set for the price. We demolished that round but wanted more. We ended up tapping out and ordering the Zakkushi Set Togo, in case we wanted a midnight snack. We can't forget about the service. Everyone tended to us whenever we needed assistance. They were friendly, polite and very helpful. All in all, hands down recommend and would definitely be back for our next date night in the future!

Yelp
I've been to the Main Street location a couple of times and ate at the Denman location on Sunday. Food is very good, but the portions are very small and it's pricey. We were three adults and two children (that didn't eat very much). We had one pitcher of beer and a moderate meal and the bill came to $205 (tax included). My cousin and I both remarked that we could eat a second meal the same as the first. If you have small appetites and a big budget, Zakkushi is great, but not great value otherwise.

Yelp
Some of the best food I've ever had. Awesome service, fun atmosphere. Small, cheap portions that allows the GF to try everything on the menu. Go. You won't be disappointed

Yelp
Great for trying out Japanese style skewers and drinks! Best to make a reservation as the place might be full.

Yelp
Small little Japanese restaurant. Definitely make reservation on weekends or large group. Traditional yakitori food. Good with beer. Little skewers of meat and organs yet full of flavours. It's like tapas. It's best to order different variety and share. The staff are attentive. I saw a sign saying they they are going cashless. Bring your card to pay. Limited parking in the store front. Pay street parking available within the block.

Yelp
Zakkushi Dining on Main is one of the few places in town where you can get yakitori. The group also runs Ramen Raijin and have a second location downtown (West End). This branch is located beside Solly's Bagelry. The inside feels very homey but there's more seating than you think. Service is of the friendly, quality Japanese standard except they take it one step further by keeping tabs/jotting times down of when they visit your table. Impressive. There's multiple menus in typical izakaya fashion; special sheets and a regular menu split into appetizers, yakitori (premium, tsukune, chicken, pork, beef, vegetables and seafood), cold tapas & salad, sashimi, hot tapas, finishing touch (noodles) and sweets. Prices have jumped significantly. They have oden! Very few places in town do it (Rajio Public House and Sushi Hachi) so I was pumped to try theirs. Trip #1 First visit, we dropped in on an early Monday evening. - Kyoho calpico sour ($4.80) - shochu, calpico, Kyoho grape juice and soda. It's cheap but light on the alcohol. - Zakkushi set ($13.00) - you get 5 skewers. Momo (teriyaki), umeshiso yaki, me maki, p-toro and oropon beef. Great way to sample a couple meat skewers. - Shiitake ($2.30) and okra ($2.50) - vegetables are always a good choice. - Negi tongue ($3.70) - grilled beef tongue with onion. Chewy and texturally pleasing. - Octopus karaage ($7.60) - one of their specials with yuzu citrus chili and mayo. They over fried the octopus; small portion and greasy. Skip it. - Samma shioyaki ($7.00) - grilled pacific sauny. This was another special our waitress recommended. It's a full fish so be prepared to debone yourself. Totally worth the effort. Make sure you add some lemon and scoop of the side green onion/radish. Trip #2 Second trip, we dropped in on a Friday evening (around 7:30pm). Place was bumping but we were able to grab a table quickly. - Green ume soda ($3.50) - one of their virgin cocktail drinks. Surprisingly good. - Hamachi teriyaki ($4.00) - yellowtail with teriyaki sauce. This skewer was sooooo small. Hamachi was slightly overcooked. - Assorted 5 kinds oden ($9.90) - 5 pieces of oden picked by the chef. We got a daikon radish, fish cake, tofu, sticky rice and yam cake. The fish broth was light but had good depth. Loved the dollop of hot mustard. Daikon was massive and tender. Tofu was also a big portion. Honestly, everything in this bowl was great. - Beef tongue ($3.20) - disappointingly overcooked, chewy and thin. Not worth it. - 2x Chicken heart ($2.50 each) - we got one with sea salt, the other with teriyaki. These were delicious. - Saikyo miso beef ($3.40) - again, slightly overcooked and so little meat for the price. - Tokyo shoyu ramen Raijin ($15.00) - classic style wavy noodle in a lean chicken based shoyu broth. Nothing really stood out. Wouldn't order it again. - Houjicha pudding ($4.00) - roasted tea pudding with red bean paste. Tasted exactly as advertised. Great texture; light and creamy. The red bean added a touch of texture. Excellent. Cashless options only. Would come back to Zakkushi for the oden and chicken hearts. Small portions and high prices. 3.5 stars.

Yelp
First time coming here. Always heard good things and maybe my expectations were too high. Service was great and liked the ambiance but the food was ok. Just ok. Wasn't blown away and didn't make me think "I'm definitely coming back".

Yelp
Of all the Yakitori places I've been to (Japan and Hawaii), this one serves the tiniest portions, so we end up paying close to $100 per person so as not to leave hungry. As far as quality goes, there were a couple of outstanding items especially pork. Majority is ok. Avoid the exotic ones like not well treated intestine and undercooked chicken skin which were kinda gross. Overall, one of the most expensive Yakitori yet least satisfying.

Yelp
I'm not sure how I never wrote an review for Zakkushi, this is one of my most frequented restaurants in the city and there is nothing else like it in Vancouver. A traditional Japanese yakitori restaurant that is opened till late so this is a favourite late night eats spot for me. It is always busy, so if possible, try to make a reservation a day before as well as calling before heading there to check how long the wait is going to be. Aside from all the delicious and wonderful yakitori made to order, they also have a great beer and sake menu. Their sashimi is always fresh and high quality and make sure to check out what's on the fresh sheet as well! My favorites are: all the steak skewers and the beef tongue with onion sauce, also the p-toro and chili chicken! You can always order one of the sets if you are not sure what your favorites are yet, there is a premium and regular one available so you can have a chance to try out the popular skewers before ordering too much. The usual spend for us is around $40-45 per person including drinks and food. Service is usually great and I particularly enjoy sitting at the bar. This location is much bigger than the West End location so they can accommodate bigger groups if reserved in advance.
