The Best-Value Restaurants in West London Are Cheap, Not Cheap Eats | Eater London

"Only the Creator truly knows where London’s best biryani lies, a vibrating golden degh on a stove somewhere waiting to be opened up. Most likely, it’s at someone’s mum’s house. But the best value is at Zam Zam, in Cranford where the planes come in so low it’s possible to see passenger’s faces. Zam Zam is almost entirely unknown east of Hounslow but for the south Asian communities around Heathrow it is a legend: a small shop opposite a Hilton hotel staffed almost entirely by Pakistani women honing a chicken biriyani. The response from locals is queues out the door and improbable sequel shops dotted around: Holy Zam Zam 2, Zam Zam 3 Gift of God, Zam Zam 4: Karachi Drift. The biryani costs £3.50, £5 with curry, and is everything a biryani should be: simply a Goldilocks perfect bowl of rice, not too dry and not too wet, steaming hot from the degh, layered, subtly spiced with a building burn that can be cooled with raitha. It’s too far for most people to make the trip out, but it’s possible to sleep easier just knowing it exists." - Jonathan Nunn

Fresh Chicken Briyani rice for breakfast...!!! We ordered 4 different breakfast menu and all tasted delicious. The price is affordable. However Dine in area is a bid limited. The best thing of all is that is it HALAL

Discover this spot with a real deshi vibe, where most of the customers seem to be local taxi drivers. It’s run by friendly deshi aunties who give the place its authentic charm. The décor isn’t fancy, but maybe that’s part of the charm—it adds to the homely feel! The food is fresh—we had freshly made paratha with omelet, daal, and chai. Absolutely fabulous!

£5 For chicken Byriani, guy on the counter was ok maybe didn't speak much English as he wasn't overly customer oriented Nice places to sit plus prayer mats if you feel the need for devotion. No menu posted and if you don't know what to get they are no much help

Budget restaurant for our desi food. It was tasty and cheap. Looked hygienic. The man at the counter can be a little more courteous. Also I hope they add tandoor roti in their menu.

One of the best biryanis I have had! It’s warm, fresh and filled with flavour. Spicy and generous portions and ONLY £3.50. The seekh kebab is really nice too. Chapli kebab was ok. The chicken curry was also ok. The chapathis were warm and fresh too. The thing about this place is that the only fresh and warm out of the pot dish is their Chicken Biryani- everything else is already cooked and left on the side; we will need to heat it up ourselves either at home if we are taking out or there is a microwave near the table area in Zam Zam. It’s more like a takeaway than a ‘restaurant’ however there are a few tables to sit and eat.

Just a quick review, popped in for breakfast and had the tea and aloo paratha, I was expecting a pre heated aloo paratha but to my surprise it was cooked fresh and rather large, the tea was OK nothing special but the aloo paratha was nice, if you are nearby, worth the visit.

This isn’t a “halal” friendly restaurant.. it advertises as a halal restaurant but oh my, it is not a halal restaurant. There is a lot of non halal stuff going on behind the scenes if you know what I mean. I ordered myself a chicken biryani and it was not a chicken biryani. It was just plain pilau rice with food colouring and bits of shredded chicken on top. When I asked if I could get a fresh biryani, the waitress said no, you get what you pay for, and when I asked if I could speak to the manager the waitress said “why do you want to speak to the manager, do you want him for dessert” and walked away to the kitchen, where I could see her doing non halal things on her knees. This is truly a very horrifying experience I have had and the encounters I have had with the employees was horrible! I haven’t experienced and witnessed such a monstrosity in my entire life. For a restaurant that claims it’s halal, it’s far from halal.

Zam Zam eatery. Few miles from LHR so great place for stop over and food. Biryani is the dish everyone comes for and it did not disappoint. Had a curry with three large chapattis and the whole meal was enough for three people sharing (just). With a few savouries and some drinks, total of £20. Food was fab, location average and there is seating inside.
