It was Madame's birthday and I wanted to do a nice middle Eastern dinner. Yes, we could have gone out, but really we just wanted to sit at home on the deck, with middle eastern food (one of her favorites) and a nice bottle of wine.
But where to buy the stuff I wanted? Zitunas had closed, Andre's is dull and a long way away. I remembered a local grocery store from years ago. The Kasbah. Sadly that is now just a restaurant. But they told me about Zam Zam.
It's kind of funky. The shelves aren't brimming with stuff, but what they have seems to be pretty good. I found labne, nabulsi cheese, fava beans for foul moudamas, za'atar, radishes, taramasalata, tahini. So I had what I needed .
This isn't your average Whole Foods or Central market. It is a pretty basic Palestinian (mostly) food store with great prices and lovely people.
