Why Voters Will Always Love Seeing Politicians Stuff Their Faces | Eater

"A large, community-focused grocery with an in-house restaurant and hot-food counter that serves everyday, culturally specific staples — freshly cooked chickens and carnitas available for take-out and a Sunday morning crowd eating bowls of menudo — presented as a neighborhood pillar that reflects local immigrant foodways and could be remembered as a future landmark of community life." - Meghan McCarron

Last night I bought sopes and couldn't eat them until today. They tasted a bit off, and when I checked, I realized they had put a whole chili pepper at the base of the sope. It's a shame to have to say goodbye to the Mexican food from that place. Even though it's a dirty place and I've already had bad experiences there, my love for Mexican dishes kept me coming back—until today. They're a disgusting establishment, plain and simple.

Hidden Gem in Marshalltown! They have a little restaurant in the back that serves the best authentic Mexican food I have ever had! (And I have been to Mexico) Our favorites are the gorditas and tamales. Reasonable prices and homemade horchata.

Zomara market offers a wide range of services similar to sending money to a different country. You can also do grocery shopping there. Additionally, zomara also offers cooked meals on site and take-out options. In outer words, they have a restaurant and ice cream shop. It's kind of a little Walmart.

How is my burrito BETTER after 12 hrs in the fridge??? 10/10. Get the steak, not chicken, it's much better.

This was a really neat Mexican store. It felt like you were actually in a store in Mexico. Cool place.

Yelp
Just okay. The food is located in the back of the store. The tortillas are homemade, which is a plus and the carne asada was well seasoned. However, ordering and packaging were problematic. I ordered 2- 3 taco platters and got 1 and had to reorder. I ordered onions and cilantro on the side and somehow got 3 tacos with onions and 3 with both onions and cilantro- my kids were NOT happy to pick out all the stuff. The beans tasted canned, but the rice was yummy. The beans were too runny and leaked all over and made a mess into the rice (see photo). Overall okay, but I'd try other places before returning here.

Yelp
I heard about this place from a co-worker... and was intrigued by the "taco stand in a grocery store" description. Usually I find that weird hidden location taco shops are some of the best, LOL. But unfortunately not the case here. I will say the tacos I had were pretty authentic, and the meat flavor was okay/good enough. The beans were watery and a very grey color... not appetizing. The rice was bland... I prefer some veggies in my Mexican rice... this was just orange rice. Overall, I wasn't impressed. There are better Mexican options in town.

Yelp
Located in the back of the market. Order at the register and your food is done quickly. I ordered three tacos. They were out of pork so I had a steak, chicken and a chorizo. No lettuce. The chicken won the contest of who is best. Juicy and flavorful. The chorizo was bland which is odd for chorizo. The steak was tough. A read and green salsa/hot sauce on the tables. Green won that contest as it has some heat and had good flavor. The red was pretty bland. Friendly service. Hot food. Oh, if you want a drink grab one out of the cooler located just behind all of the seats. And if you want chips and/or dip pick those up as you walk through the market.

Yelp
Awesome burritos, killer guacamole (even though it is a little on the spicy side for me) Friendly staff, and an all-around great place for some authentic Mexican food and a nice little market in the downtown ---handy place to even shop for some basics for downtowners!

Yelp
Okay let's talk about Sopes - if you haven't tried one you have to come try one here!! Delicious fresh ingredients with everything made fresh in the store. Why would you ever visit a Taco Johns when there is a place like this in town!?!? It's in the back of a grocery store so you'll need to do a little exploring to find it - but it's worth your efforts to give this place a try. And since it's in the back of a grocery store - you can treat yourself to some crazy Mexican Candy on your way out -- I recommend those mango pops that taste mysteriously spicy :)

Yelp
I've been making the rounds of Mexican joints in Marshalltown, and boy am glad I stopped here! Authentic taqueria in the back of a Mexican grocery store. I had the huarache, which was very tasty. My neighbor had the caldo de res (chunky beef soup) and it looked equally amazing. Check it out!

Yelp
A wonderful store--authentic Latino cuisine and aisles of items either brought in from Mexico or elsewhere. Their yucca is fresh as are their limes--an much cheaper than other stores. They have a full meat case, and the cuttings are actual Latino with beef steaks wafer thin, and pork superbly sliced. There is fresh ceviche (both mixed seafood and shrimp) and they offer real plates for all pallets. The staff that wait on you are courteous, and most are bilingual (my spouse speaks Spanish (Peruvian) and they communicate with no problem. We go back once a week--the 65 mile drive is worth it! Nothing compares with Zamora in Marshalltown! (Zamora was hit by the tornado, so be patient. Their telephone does not connect.)

Yelp
Zamora's delicious & gigantic burritos have stolen my heart. I get the lengua (tongue)/carne asada mix. Everything else I've tried is also good. Ice cream/sweets are available at the front of the store. Friendly service.

Yelp
Nice, clean, friendly, good produce section, restaurant in the back that makes everything from scratch. Watched her press the fresh gordito and cook it before filling it with crisp lettuce, flavorful chicken, fresh cheese and nice cream. Fast, friendly. I'll be back, the gringo that I am, to learn more of what they have to offer! Great spice eclecticism and produce department too! See the pictures I posted of the gordiyo and the meat counter.

Yelp
I love getting meat from Jose Z its so good, very thick juicy and well done worth the money. I just can't get enough of it! The meat just melts in your mouth and your taste buds become manic to all the different sensations, don't get me started in the texture. Crispy in the outside but soft on the inside with one bite all the juices go in your mouth. Would highly recommend anyone to get meat from Jose. Can't wait to get more!
