The Publican Will Start Lunch Service for the First Time | Eater Chicago
"Decade-old Edgewater favorite Zanzibar Cafe will close on Memorial Day temporarily as the business will be sold; two employees plan to purchase it and keep the operation similar, though they will probably change its name." - Daniel Gerzina
My favorite place on campus, their happy hour can't be beat!

I had the Lemon Herb Fish Sandwich with Fries. The fish tasted good, but the sandwich had one teeny tiny drop of aioli squiggled in the middle - making it very dry. Not sure if this is how it is or if the chef just forgot to add it. Fries were okay.
I’d rather spend money at Croutons though if I want to have sandwiches on campus.

You can’t serve rotten beef patty to students. It is sour and tastes odd. So I dumped it in trash and walked away.
I feel disgusted the fact that the meat is precooked before days ago. Obviously the patty preheat in microwave. 🤮worst part, it is just sour and odd tasting. Come on you can’t do this. You can’t do this to cause food poisoning to stressed students

Small but good selection of beer and wine. Good food. Great place for music.

Food is always pretty good and the waits are usually pretty quick both to order and to receive food. It would be nice if there was a bit more normal table seating for larger groups though. The outside area is pretty nice, but can be high traffic depending on the students, also there aren't always umbrellas for shade.

A really nice place to go that feels like it's off campus even though it is not. It's cozy, the menu is nice, and it's a bit removed from the bustle downstairs. Not the cheapest, but perhaps the best place to grab lunch on campus if you want to treat yourself a bit.

Ordered the vegan burger and none of the toppings it's supposed to come with were on it. It was flavorless and incredibly disappointing, especially for $10. I couldn't even force myself to finish it.

Zanzibar is a chill above average (for price center) restaraunt. Decent selection if you are not concerned with your health and you eat meat. There is plenty of seating that can accommodate groups of 5 or more. It's an ideal location to host a lab lunch or host some visiting academics.
The Zanzibar combo ( soup, sandwich and side ) is the most well rounded option. The staff here are the coolest in PC.
