Zarlengo's Soft Serve

This is an AMAZING place! Here at this family owned business, you can create happiness for you, family and friends. I had a delicious mango Italian ice. They have so many flavors to choose from. There is something for everyone! Italian Ice, milk shakes, Arctic Coolers, soft serve ice cream, and other homemade novelties. You can enjoy your treats at one of the tables outside, or you can take it to go. They do have a drive thru but if you have not been there before I do recommend you go during the day because it’s tricky going through the drive thru. I have gone for years and everything that they make is heavenly!

OMG love this place. The variety of flavors has something for everyone. A friend took me one Sunday after church. I can’t wait to go back. I live in Chicago not near - but I guess I’m going to have to make the drive. It’s so worth it.

I was gifted numerous flavors for Christmas. Butter Pecan, Egg Nog, Pistachio are the best. Chery bomb Italian ice oh man! So good!!!

It was delicious!!! I ordered a Carmel Cashew with butterfinger toppings, and it exceeded my expectations. We were expecting to have just a small topping of butterfinger on top, not throughout, but it was SO GOOD!

The ice cream is always good and the system keeps the line moving. The workers don't always seem really pleasant but not rude. consistentcy in quality and operations keeps me coming back. But if i prefer a plastic cup in comparison to Styrofoam i think i should be able to request that from my place in line and not have to hope it's a short line with nobody outside so i can request it at the window directly.

Updated review: So normally I’ve able to proceed through here easily but tonight they decided to change up with how the drive thru service works I guess. Ended up sitting behind someone who was waiting at the window for about 15 minutes since it seemed like the workers knew them and spent the whole time talking with the car who ended up sitting there for an extra 10 minutes after getting their order apparently since they drove off without having been handed anything at that time. Once at the window ended up spending about 2 minutes waiting for our order so now I was even more confused as to why the previous person had been there for so long. Honestly, not recommending going here if this is the kind of service they’ll be having since good ice cream can only make up for so much. Definitely recommend the arctic coolers, good service and quick too. Gets busy at times so expect a wait if there’s a line

Great hidden gem! I tried the banana foster gelato. Was very good but the flavor became super overpowering after a while. The person I came with got an arctic cooler and I really enjoyed that as well. I wish they offered more options for daily flavors, but overall great experience!

We rented from Zarlengo’s for our Parish Picnic for the second year in a row, and once again, they did not disappoint! We had their cart along with cases of assorted gelatos and Italian ice, and it was a huge hit with our guests — we always run out because everyone loves it so much! The staff is incredibly nice and efficient, making the whole process smooth and stress-free. The owners have such great energy — kind, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about what they do. It's easy to see why their treats and their service are so beloved in the community. Whether you're planning a big event or just stopping by for a quick visit, I highly recommend Zarlengo’s. Their gelato and Italian ice are top notch, and the people behind the business make it even better!

I was super excited to come here because I used to come all the time when I lived here. I had to order at the window because I couldn't remember which gelato I wanted. The girl at the window seemed a little annoyed that we ordered at the window. The disappointment was I ordered the dark chocolate Oreo gelato. Everything was in a paper bag so we pulled off. Got to the stop light and my order was wrong. They gave me regular Oreo was hoping for their chocolate but oh well

This is definitely the local spot for ice cream. Was driving by and decided to stop in for a sweet treat. Place was hopping but the staff handled all of the orders quickly. Their selection of gelato was awesome. We selected salted caramel and pistachio americano cone. The portions are generous and the gelato was delicious. This location does not have a dining area but you can use the patio area to enjoy your sweat treats or take them to go.

The service is great and the choices on their menu are all tempting and delicious too. My grandchildren love the Italian ice tubes. I highly recommend this business. I just like their come withe their creamy ice cream serves with a cookie on top to make this treat even more special. They also have a drive through to make it easier to order. I highly recommend this business.

I really like the quality of their ice cream. They usually have long lines, but service is relatively quick. They have parking or you can use the drive-thru window. Service is decent, nothing extra special. It's a little pricey, but worth it.

First timer! Sweet tooth time! Right after my child recital i decided to treat her! What better way than ICE CREAM!! They had plentiful options from sundays, malts, cookies, ice cream and smoothies. Zero wait time! ! Seemed to only had outdoor seating and seems like a seasonal spot! Drive through only. We ordered the Oreo malt n chocolate chip cookie! Check em out!

Zarlengo was one of our favorite ice cream places. It's still good but not as delicious as it once was. So it is for most foods these days. I still recommend it.

First time trying this place like myself do not get their sundaes they are trash their milkshake is good maybe I'll give it a try again and order Italian ice but never again for their sundaes

Zarlengo's is goated for being so good at such a niche thing compared to most other ice cream/after dinner snack spots. Their Italian ice is soft and delicious + they have so many different flavors. Their outdoor seating is a great spot to be but it'd be nice if they had indoor seating in their new building- I think that's just a packaging place or something like that tho. My biggest issue with zarlengo's - the spoons. I know it's stupid but they're so flimsy it makes it hard to eat, although my brother got a sturdy one with his arctic cooler (gelato + Italian ice and soft serve I think?). The menu only being posted on the QR code is also annoying, but I guess it makes slight sense because they post somewhat different flavors each day. Last issue - they close so early. it'd be nice if you could come past 8 on a Saturday. People are nice and ice is good. Good prices and decent portions. I can't recommend the Michigan blueberry Italian ice enough it's my favorite

The lemon ricotta gelato is so bombbbbb!!! I will be getting a quart this week. The pink grapefruit is also very good! It is sweet and tart.

Flavors of gelato, especially almond joy and coffee chip, are wonderful! We buy three quarts, which are a very good value at around $12.

I love this place . I live in Texas now but every visit home , I make sure to stop by. Ice cream and service 10/10!

When i come there, the young lady at the register has an attitude and seems as though she doesn't want to be there and has a nasty tone and like I was a bother to her. This is the second time that I have dealt with her and her disrespect. She needs to learn to have a better attitude at work and provide good customer service because now I won't be coming back. I did speak with the manager and I was given some kind of ice cream bar. More than likely, they are gonna lose more customers. I have told many people about the establishment , they will not be coming now because of what I've experienced. ****Stop hiring anybody because look what happens.

Me and my family love going to this ice cream spot, good ice cream and Italian ice for a reasonable price. The only thing I would like to see is the Italian ice menu by the drive through with the other menu, other than that its worth trying and enjoying.

A lovely coworker brought us in ice cream tonight, and it was truly the highlight of my night. Shout out to Sam and her hubby!! I tried the chocolate gelato. It was so creamy and the perfect amount of sweet. I can't wait to go visit the shop soon. Will definitely be taking my family to get some delicious gelato and I look forward to trying the Italian ice.

First, there's so many options!! They even have plant based options, not a lot but hey it shows they have considered everyone. The customer service is outstanding! Don't get discouraged about the line, they keep them moving and are very helpful in ensuring you are happy with your order. Love the people, the patio, and the yummy choices!!

Now I grew up with this place about 10 years of being a customer. I came up with a friend that wanted to give them a try. This is the first time I've ever seen any of the owners and I have to say it lead into an unnecessarily rude conversation. I was asking questions simply about wholesale (pint and gallon offerings since I haven't bought them directly from here before. She didn't seem like she could be bothered with me and my questions were dumb to begin with. I've always loved their menu but what was that?? I can't ask a question? The rest of the staff helped me with no issue but that experience is surely going to make me think twice before giving you my money again...

I finally got a chance to stop by and try this place out. Usually I pass by on my way to visiting family and they have a line at least one block long so I don't stop. Well today it was only about 4 people. I parked right on the side. It's plenty of parking. I tried the 3 scoop watermelon and strawberry mix which was $4.50. FYI this is a cash only establishment. It was delicious I'm glad I stopped

We go several times during the spring and summer. The only downside is sometimes they run out of a flavor or two. The upside is every flavor is awesome !!!

This is dangerously down the street from me so my car drives there often. The best part of the day (lately) has been waiting until noon to see the day's flavors! Hoping that your fav or a close second will be on there that day or will you get an old stand by?? One never knows! It is strictly drive through due to COVID and as always CASH ONLY. Over the summer was rough, you had to catch it at the right time of day or be in line for a while. They did the best they could with the crowd and space with people directing traffic so as not to disrupt the road. Ordering was sometimes done before the window and you would pay and swing around to wait for your goodies. That would become troublesome if you had a small order and had to wait behind folks with larger orders. But again, space was limited so not much you could do about that. Now that the dog says of summer are over, I am able to just drive right up and get my treats and be on my way. Hopefully this review doesn't spoil that!

This Pilar of the Chicago Heights Community serves the best Italian Ice Cream in the whole world! I might add that every-time there is a festival or special event they are on hand giving out free samples of their Italian Ice Cream. My favorite is all of it!

Some of the best soft serve and Italian ice I've ever had! Portions are good and prices are reasonable. Cash only! When that much anticipated first summer breeze hits, I'll be heading straight to Zarlengo's! I haven't explored the menu as much as I'd like, but their soft serve is creamy and very good! The vanilla is not too sweet and tastes great topped with their Italian ice. Oh summer! How I long for thee!

Great Italian Ice. It's all drive through now. I used to like sitting outside of the establishment and rating my Italian Ice. They have all the favors. The drive through is slower and you have to pull in a parking space and the staff bring out your order. Not much interaction with the staff, so it is not apparent if they are kind. I no they are not that helpful if you are looking to try something different from your usual order

Always tasted good but we definitely waited in like for 40 minutes. Be prepared....

YES is always the answer for Zarlengo's! I was recently in Illinois and although there was no drive thru it's still the vibrant yummy flavors. Thanks Guys!

There is nothing better on this earth. The chocolate italian ice is amazing. It's like a gourmet fudgesicle. And the gelato is the best around.

Smoothies, creamiest ice cream we have had. Tried it for the first time at Trivoli Tavern in Chicago and had to get a pint at Goddess and the Grocer because it was so incredible. Hoping we can buy ping at more locations across the city soon

Every time I visit Chicago I head to the South Suburbs to try something new at Zarlengo's. Endless flavors and combos. This time I had an Apple Pie Sundae! Perfectly hot with the cool ice cream, whip cream, nuts, and chocolate sauce. If you see a line stay in it. It's worth it.

The epitome of what excellent gelato and ice cream should be! Everything was delicious! The only reason it's not 5 stars was the location is drive through/carry out only and the roads surrounding the place were under construction. It was a difficult to navigate around.

Great Italian ice and soft serve. Get them together and you have the famous artic cooler. The wait can be long which often forces me to continue driving. I wish I could say service was quick but it's not. However, since this is a summer business, it makes for a great family outing. On the bad side, service is ok but if I'm being honest, I often feel like I'm somehow a burden to the workers. They aren't very warm and welcoming... just business... that's it, that's all. The offerings are plentiful and requires some time, particularly if you're new to the establishment... but when you approach that window there is so much pressure to know your order and move along... hence the 3 stars.

Delicious Italian Ice! Went with the whole fam, which included two kids, three adults and a senior. We ordered a mix of gelato and Italian Ice between us all. The kids loved their options, adults were happy and I will definitely be back for some more of that Strawberry-Lemonade Italian Ice! During covid they are doing drive thru only. On hot days, expect looooong lines. Worth it though!

I have passed by here several times. Finally, I stopped by for a taste this summer. I was fully satisfied!! By far, this has to be the best Italian ice. The flavors are fantastic. I keep going back again and again in order to try new stuff. Unlike the famous spot on Taylor Street in Chicago, this place leaves out the lemon rind from the non-lemon flavors. Instead, real fruit is used to create the flavors and makes the difference. The lines get long, but the staff keeps it moving. Whatever you do, don't go on the days I go. I don't want the lines to get too long.

One of the best in the city of Chicago! Everything is always on point ...just don't go in a rush because the line can be pretty long. But it's worth the wait.

I absolutely love this place. No matter how long the line is, it's worth it. I bring my family here every summer and then having a drive thru now is an great added plus. Anything i try from them is delicious! My favs are the sundaes and Italian ice but people love their half ice cream half Italian ice.

I think anyone from the south suburbs can agree that Zarlengo's can't be compared to other spots in the area! My personal favorites are the arctic coolers which are half soft serve half Italian ice. My favorite Italian ice flavors are: mango, pink grapefruit, mixed berry, and fig (this one isn't made super often). The shakes are also great- especially the banana shakes! I don't get the gelato quite as often, but bananas foster and cannoli are high on my list. Cash only and the line can get long when the weather is nice so be prepared to wait- don't worry it's worth it!

My family & I are new to the neighborhood so we decided to try it out. We walked since we are in walking distance. The employee opened the window said "we are drive thru only" employee closed the window & walked off. Pretty much refusing us service. Leaving my children in disappointment as this is our first time at this establishment.

They now offer no sugar added(NSA) options in Italian ice and chocolate treats.They are pretty tasty.

Wow I'm so glad my fiance chose this place over Coldstone which this was our first choice. Good thing word travels on the net that help lead us here. The line stays out the door but its diffently worth the wait. We order the Mary Lou apple dumpling caramel sundae. Heaven will enter your mouth in the first bite lol. We want to try the brownie sundae next.
