Go there at 5:50 am waited for them to open for the to tell me give them until 6:50am. I asked my and was told “I don’t know, no people” Whatever that means. Then when I get inside the store and was told they can’t serve me because the register is not open! Waited an additional 10 minutes to get a good miracle at best. Zaros Family Bakery is 🗑️

End of the day, I ordered a salt bagel toasted with cream cheese figuring it wouldn't be at peak of freshness. But it felt like it just came out of the oven. Delightfully fresh and delicious with generous amount of creamy cream cheese. Friendly service too.

Great customer service, delicious pastries, and a tasty breakfast wrap (for dinner)! Definitely recommend if you're waiting for the train in Penn Station. I had the southwestern breakfast wrap, prune danish, and jelly donut; couldn't help getting a second pastry after I saw the awesome display

Baked goods are delicious! Bagels especially. I had a toasted everything bagel with scallion cream cheese - amazing and so filling! A whole meal itself. Always busy for a reason! The cashier was a bit confused and had to ring up my order in two parts.

Lox and cream cheese on everything untoasted is a New York “can’t miss,” and grabbing a fresh loaf of the chocolate babka always brightens someone’s counter. Efficient service and quality baked goods. The morning bagel rush moves quickly, and the staff adjusts to ensure quick and easy payment. Sometimes the demands on urgency jeopardize the staff's friendliness, but it's one of the largest transportation hubs in NYC, so you can't blame them!

Zaro's bakery is a perfect location inside Penn station thats very convenient. The staff was really nice. The small dining seats were clean. I actually sat a bit before ordering. Bagels were bit too dry. I really enjoyed a chocolate croissant and butter crossaint. A simple crossaint is always a great bite for breakfast. My friend thought their coffee was tasty. It's definitely a great place for quick bite.

A New York bagel!! I'm not a bagel fanatic by any means but I'm no hater either. I can take them or leave them but I was told I have to have one before leaving the city and now I know why... I grabbed an everything bagel with cream cheese from here literally as I was on my way out of NYC. I can't accurately describe the texture/flavor of this bagel, but it *IS* as amazing as they say it is! I wish every bagel on planet earth tasted like this one! If you have never had one, I'd highly recommend it :)

The black and white cookies are bland and flavorless. The cookie and the frosting both without flavor. Not at all like the ones I have enjoyed from any number of Jewish bakeries in the Chicago suburbs. I am not Jewish and perhaps the flavors vary by region of the country?

Decent quick stop in the Penn station!! They only had two soup options when I went: chicken noodle soup and lentil soup. I got chicken soup because it's superior haha. It was about $8 and I got a sizeable amount of soup. They also give a piece of bread to go with it. Nice workers and about three tables to sit at. Would only go back if I'm there.

As I got off the train, I approached Zaro's Family bakery with nothing but love and affection for them. Their baked goods and especially their bagels are every bit as delicious as I remember them to be. They hold a special place in my heart as I have loved them since childhood. As I set foot near the counter I was greeted by the friendly staff that was both efficient and quick with my order. My everything bagel with tomatoes, onions and lox with cream cheese was perfection. The bagel was warm and crisp with a good amount of schmear and topping and was absolutely delish! The small and tidy area also accommodated several small tables with seating. I was able to park myself immediately and enjoy my super tasty breakfast. It's a must try, especially if you want a fantastic bagel that is en pointe. It's also hard to pass up on their yummy rugelach cookies, so just get them and enjoy!!

great baked goods, great freindly serivce, and decent prices for the location. i called one time to reserve a loaf of bread and the owner answered, arrnages everything and when i arrived at the location they had my bread ready for me. GREAT SERVICE!

Convenient option for a bagel and coffee before catching a train. Sometimes they give too much cream cheese, sometimes not enough. The bagels are average but typically fresh. Does the trick in a pinch.

I stopped by this bakery in Penn Station to pick up some pastries for my friend while I was waiting for my train Sunday afternoon. The staff were friendly and helpful. I asked the staff member to help me pick out pastries for a friend I was visiting that day. She told me which ones were popular and which ones she liked. I ended up buying the almond croissant, coffee ring, a large chocolate chip cookie and a Black and White cookie. She packed them up carefully and rang me up. My experience overall was fantastic. I appreciated her patience with me while I was making up my mind with the pastries. My friend and his family loved all of the pastries very much. Next time I'm in the station, I will definitely buy more treats from them.

Zaro's Penn Station Zaro's Bakery celebrates 75 years this year. I'm playing catch up on my Zaro's reviews because I love their bagels. My favorite is the Pumpernickel and Plain Cream Cheese. The cakes and cookies are delicious too. It's been a while since I visited this location. I'm always trying new bagel shops. I don't want to forget to give Zaro's a shout out in case you are nearby. As far as customer service it's standard no frills. You just tell them what you want so don't be indecisive and hold up the line. I recommend any time you are in the vicinity of a Zaro's Bakery you give them a try. This location in Penn Station is particularly handy for travelers.

The bagel with butter was not fresh & only a little butter, croissant was not fresh & somewhat dry, rainbow sprinkle cookie was ok. Not recommend.

Nice grab go for coffee and bagels at the station.. to. Of good options to pick from.. sister liked her toasted plain bagel and jalapeño cream cheese and I was fine with my sesame bagel with veggie cream cheese and latte!

I love the bagels. They scooped them out for me and added cream cheese. The best thing are the boxes of Rugelach! They were around $13 a large sized box. Really fresh and tasty. Got a box of raspberry and a box of chocolate. Just popped a raspberry in my mouth! Fresh and Yummy!!!!

ZERO star!!! Horrible!!! MOLDY bread!!! I got a bread with raisins, cranberries, and pecans (something like that) for $13 or $14 as a gift to Thanksgiving dinner host. When they cut the bread, it was MOLDY!!!!! Do NOT buy anything there. MOLD CAN KILL YOU, especially KIDS!!!!

pros: very friendly and patient service. willing to explain and do anything to serve - including serve a single cupcake from the last 6 pack! I wouldn't do that to you! But thanks! Price wasn't showing for babka slice - $1.99. That's less per slice than a full loaf somehow (easily 1/8 maybe 1/7 of the loaf per slice!) Delicious and crispy and dense and sweet. The brownie was ooey gooey chocolatey and even denser and perfect. Just perfect. They deserved my service and tip for this! cons: couple of items overpriced cause it's nyc overall: I think we have a winner in Penn!

I paid $9 for a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich, and it was burned to a crisp. Do better!

Ordered ahead and fully paid, and received confirmation email that included a description of the items I purchased. When I arrived, staff claimed they could "see my order but nothing was in it." Almost missed my train because they were arguing with me about reimbursing me. To this day, have not received a reimbursement even though I contacted Zaro's online. Very disappointing.

Despite asking for toasted bagels, they weren't, the avocados were crudely cut and put on instead of being spread, the bagel worker looked upset to be there and can only handle one request at a time but this is Penn station so it's always busy. The coffee is bland and don't expect anything fancy, there are no espresso machines here. Even if you tip VERY generously, the old lady behind the counter treats you like a nuisance, her negative vibes are only countered by the younger girl working beside her who actually follows up on customers' orders. If you want to overpay and get crappy service, here's another place you should visit while in NYC.

I would normally give this place five (5) stars, but I was disappointed with the service this morning, especially after leaving a nice tip. I ordered a toasted corn muffin extra dark and was given a blueberry muffin instead. I only knew this once I arrived, which was too late. Naturally, I called, but they did not answer the phone. I called twice. I want either a refund or a free toasted CORN muffin. Interestingly, it wasn't as busy as it typically is. So, I can't chalk it up to her being overwhelmed or too busy. It could be because they had the young lady preparing the breakfast in place of the two gentlemen who typically work in that spot. I would not be that upsetting if I could eat blueberry but I can't so now I am hungry and will undoubtedly become cranky. I teach straight through to lunch and this coffee alone just will not do. ;-|

Although Zaros in Penn Station appears to be a promising spot for fresh baked goods, my experience was underwhelming. The staff were pleasant and attentive, but the baked goods did not live up to the hype.The croissant was just okay--not as flaky and buttery as I had hoped. The egg and cheese sandwich lacked flavor and needed more seasoning to make it enjoyable. Overall, the food was disappointing and not worth the visit.With so many other options in Penn Station, I would recommend exploring other places for a more satisfying meal.

Penn Station is NOT the best location of Zaro's. W37 & 7th Ave is by far the best, but being that all the other Zaro's locations are temporarily closed, this will have to do for now. Their best item is the blueberry muffin. I might be biased, but the other pastries and bagels (Brooklyn does it best!) do not impress me as much as their blueberry muffins. They usually sell out around 11AM daily, so I made sure to come early in the morning to pick up half a dozen for my coworkers. Everyone loved it. Blueberry muffin is a 5/5, but the location is a 1/5. Penn Station has a lot of people roaming around without face masks on and it often smells putrid.... sooooo ... 2/5. But don't skip out on the blueberry muffins!

I ordered sesame bagels to go and a black and white cookie. I toasted the bagels at home and they were delicious! I would pass on the black and white cookie. They're $4.75 and the frosting made them gummy

The bad reviews are misleading. I got nine bagels here for about $12, which is so reasonable and quite a steal, especially given their expensive location. The service was quick and patient with me when I was taking a long time to decide which type of bagels I wanted. I got a mix of everything, garlic, onion, plain, and cinnamon raisin, and they stayed fresh for several days, even through a plane ride. On top of that, the bagels were full of flavor, puffy, and fresh. If you're in a rush and limited on location, Zaro's is a great choice for NYC bagels.

Zaro's is very conveniently located in Penn Station and may be one of the better places to get food before boarding an Amtrack train. However, based on my experience I might try something else next time. The food was good enough. I had a bagel that was average. Unfortunately, I had asked for it to be toasted, and it was not. I had a coffee that was average and a turkey sandwich for my trip on Acela that was slightly sub par. The restaurant was pretty warm and you are forced to stand under bright lights that add heat as you queue for the service. All in all, this should have been a 3-star place but I received poor service. The guy who took my order was nice enough (although maybe he is the one who forgot to toast my bagel) but the cashier was borderline rude. Overall the service was not very quick. New York attitude with out the New York minute is the summary. Whatever.

Great spot to grab a donut, breakfast sandwich or coffee on the go. Just flew in from Mumbai, India and it was the first thing I hit when I got to Penn Station.

Got off the amtrak at Penn Station at 9pm and found this place. Do not fall for the buy one get one free promotion. Both bagels we got were hard as a rock like jaw popping hard :(

Yes, I do realize it's in Penn Station so the quality is not going to be perfect, but I expected more of Zaro's. They have multiple stores and I thought they would at least have a good bagel. I came into Manhattan early one morning for a meeting and needed a quite bite that I could eat while walking to my meeting. I've walked by Zaro's so many times and the breads they have displayed in the window always looked appealing. Finally, I gave them a try. I got a bacon, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel. Price was a bit more than I'd usually pay for this elsewhere, but it being Penn Station, was understandable. The problem was the taste just wasn't there. The bagel itself was not very good. It was doughy and without that nice crisp exterior or the chewy interior. It seemed "mass produced" instead of the great bagels you can get from bagel shops all over NYC and Long Island. Eating it, I felt like the ingredients used were good, but it just didn't come together. The bacon was salty, but lacked flavor. The cheese was there, but also lacked flavor. The whole thing did not meld into the taste of a bacon egg and cheese bagel. The coffee was barely luke warm. I'm not sure how that's possible, but it was. It was really unsatisfying.

A must have New York bagel! We always stop at Zaro's when we arrive to the city and every single time I cannot help but order the everything bagel toasted with cream cheese, an all time classic and they do it so, so well!! We usually visit the grand central location which has the luxury of using the food concourse seating if you do wish to sit down, but we both agreed the flavor of the bagels at this zaros was actually better!! The service is grab and go but there are a few seats available. The bagels and other bakery items are always fresh, the lattes are especially good and the price is right!! I reccomend buying 2 bagels because I am always left wanting more of that delicious bagel. Zaro's please come to Florida!!!

If one's in a rush to catch a train but need some quick sustenance, this is an adequate option to go to. This place doesn't serve the best bagel in the world and cream cheese provided is average but it isn't bad. I got a sesame bagel and my boyfriend got an everything bagel, both with cream cheese. The bagels were nice and toasted and had the typical flavor. I think what could have been better was the cream cheese. Just wasn't as tasty as other places. Again, it meets the needs when one is in a rush. I've gotten bagels here a couple of times when catching a train and have not been disappointed.

Bottom Line: Beautiful displays of baked good that look better than they taste. I love baked goods and that includes soft pretzels. My train was pulling out of Penn Station in 30 minutes and I had not yet had my soft pretzel fix so I went to Zaro's. I loved the display of pretzels and breads. It was very enticing. But the taste of the pretzel didn't live up to the lovely display. The pretzel was a little tough and very salty. The employees did heat it up for us so that was nice, but I am sure there are better pretzels in NYC.

I am a big fan of Zaro's for whenever I am traveling to Grand Central/Penn Station. I always look forward to stopping by. Their products are so fresh and amazing. Scott Zaro is also the best!!! I had a concern, and he was so quick to respond and address the issue. They went above and beyond. It was evident that the family really cares about what they do and their customers.

This is my favorite place in NYC to buy custom birthday cakes. It is really difficult to find one under $40 in Manhattan, and the six inch costs about $35 with tax included. More over, they have a large range of fillings you can choose from. My most recent purchase was a yellow cake with chocolate buttercream, pink decorations, and raspberry filling. It did not disappoint; the cake was moist, the buttercream was perfect, and there were two generous layers of raspberry jam that tasted very fresh. The cake was beautiful and was ready exactly when we wanted it for pick up. You can order in person, by phone or on their easy online form. I can't wait to have an excuse to order another cake from them!

I walked in ordered a BEC lightly toasted. They don't offer turkey bacon which is annoying, so I order anyway. My mistake. I ask for it lightly toasted. They burnt my bagel, gave me a cold egg. It was literally inedible bc the burn made the bagel rock hard. I couldn't ask for another one bc the time I opened the bag to scarf it down, I had to catch my train where eating and drinking are prohibited. Waste of money.

I come here often for breakfast. Grab a breakfast sandwich. Bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant with a coffee. I'm good to go from there. Tho they have several options to choose from. No complaints here.

I went to grab a sandwich. There was an employee behind the counter who had his phone placed on the sandwich prep area and was texting. This didn't bother me, except for the fact that he didn't even look up and when he did he didn't ask me if I needed Anything just stood there, looked at me then looked back down to text. So I asked if this area was closed. He looked at me like I was dumb and just said "no" then went back to texting and then SCRATCHED HIS HEAD over the sandwich prep area. Then told me that the items in the display window were actually not even available for purchase. Honesty ridiculous

I'm at Zaros around 6:30-7, waiting for my NJT train. They have fresh everything bagels that are absolutely delicious with cream cheese, and their iced/hot coffee always hits the spot. A bit pricey, but its in Penn Station, so what can you expect.

First time there. Placed my order for the nova lox to go only to discover, when I was on the train and starting eating, that there was not even a shred of a lox inside! $10.88+ tax for a bagel and cream cheese. Will never be back. When you serve people in spots like Penn Station you know people are on the move. It feels like that they take a chance you won't notice mistakes/incomplete order till the point of no return. That's exactly how I feel. If I have to check you on the spot you are not worthy of my money!

My sesame bagel so hard, stale, and dry! It was like eating a giant cracker. So bagel was kind of disappointing, but the flavor of the lox was really good in my opinion and helped in finishing my breakfast. I liked the addition of tomatoes (and red onions, and obviously cream cheese) which gave some moistness to the really dry bagel as I said before. Overall I liked the flavors. It was tasty, but I'll most likely head to another place for bagels as I was in a rush. It was also a bit pricey at $12.95.

We stop by Zaro's every chance we get, which is easy considering it's in Penn Station. Everything's very fresh and appealing; the selection's different every day. Right now I'm really liking the Apple turnovers. A lot of their items are right up there with the best bakeries in France. My fiancee loves the Chinese almond cookie and the bagels.

5 star potential. 3 for the execution. Great location to get a quick bite before a bus or train. They got my order wrong tho sooooo they need to get it together. Cant blame it on being packed cuz it's always packed in Penn Station.

I just popped in for a chocolate croissant as I grabbed coffee next door. The pastries here looked more impressive than the neighboring spot, so I couldn't resist. And it was a good choice. This is a very convenient spot as you are about to exit (or as you enter) Penn Station at 7th Ave. They also have a quite impressive bagel wall.

Came here to get coffee and 3 Fuel Bar it was so yuck and Disgusting!!! Coffee wasn't that great and Fuel bars was so HARD not fresh at all!! Hard like the rock! When I told someone who works there I want 3 Fuel Bar then she keeps choosing the old ones for me because when she pick it up and press it and put it back and take another for me. I GUESS she give me the old Fuel Bar and I ended up throw every away!! I will NEVER go back again!! BYE!!

Made a quick stop at Penn Station Zaro's to grab some kosher NY bagels to take home. Staff were very pleasant and threw in a number of extras (perhaps because it was already late afternoon). May not be the best bagels in NYC, but very nice to have this available and the family appreciated the bagels! And I appreciated the pleasant and helpful employee.

It's a testament to the fact that Zaro's has been around since I was a teenager and I vividly remember it's former name, Zaro's Bread Basket! Time flies... As I've been a passenger on many Penn Station trains, Zaro's has been a great standby over the years! I used to mainly think of them for their delicious pastries like the big black and white cookies, the pretzels, both of which I haven't tried but look so delicious... I have had a few of their cookies, and other baked goods, their big bagels rival H and H! Now I notice the delicious sandwiches, fresh produce, is it just me or are those newer additions over the past few years when it was primarily baked goods? Anyways, I really enjoy Zaro's!! In Penn Station, they have an area to wait and sit down, the employees are very friendly, and it's nice to relax when waiting for your train. As I have recently started taking Amtrak instead of the bus, Zaro's has become a place that I like to visit on my travels! Happy eating and traveling!

I have gone to this location multiple times thinking my issues were one-offs but, unfortunately, they are not. Nearly every time I purchase breakfast from here my order is incorrect. They put your name on the order so I know it's not getting mixed up and I know my order is written down correctly because it's read back to me when I take my food. They have messed up everything from little things like not toasting my bagel (which isn't really a major problem) to not adding the tomato or lox that I asked for. Today was a perfect example. I ordered an everything bagel, toasted, regular cream cheese, and tomato. The Woman at the counter read my order back to me as she handed it to me and it was correct but when I opened my food I got an everything bagel (not toasted), low-fat cream cheese, and no tomato. I'm not sure what's going on behind that counter but I will not go back again and I would not recommend anyone go there if you're looking for something they need to assemble. I'm sure they can pour a cup of coffee and hand out cannolis but if it's more complex than that they aren't capable of it.

A favorite treat of mine that is very difficult to find is prune danish . But I found it at Zaro. I travel via Penn Station and Grand Central where there are several Zaro locations , as well as in other areas of NYC .. Zaro is very busy with commuters wanting to grab and go and the staff at all Zaro locations seem to fully understand that . Even when it looks like there is a long line the wait is brief . The service is fast but courteous. Kudos to management !! The prune danish by the way is buttery and flaky with a delicious prune filling topped with a glaze and slivered almonds . Zaro also has the absolute best coffee .. not too strong , not too weak . It's just right . P.S. the soups and salads are also tops .. and for tourists , this is the place for the iconic NYC city cookie , the Blac
