Zass

"The legendary San Pietro is one of the jewels of the Amalfi Coast as well as one of the most famous hotels in the world. Zass, its Michelin-starred restaurant, is extremely popular with visitors (booking in advance is highly recommended) thanks to skilful Belgian chef Alois Vanlangenaeker, who has now been here for over 20 years. His cuisine showcases all the colours and flavours of the Mediterranean with harmony and elegance, focusing mainly on the traditions of Campania, especially in appetisers such as the small bites of lightly baked Pizza Margherita and in creative dishes elsewhere on the menu. Many of his ingredients are sourced from the hotel’s kitchen garden, which he uses to create dishes based on meat and, especially, fish, including his signature John Dory (flavoured with lemon and accompanied by mashed potatoes with bufala yoghurt, seasonal vegetables and his famous Champagne and truffle sauce), and other fish such as mullet, sea bass, scampi and squid. Excellent service, a pianist providing background music, and an idyllic terrace boasting stunning views all play their part in making this a truly memorable dining experience." - Michelin Inspector

Truly the best hotel experience we’ve ever had. The hotel itself is beautiful. Perfect location, almost hidden away on the cliff side. The rooms, the amenities, the beach club, and the restaurants are all excellent, but the staff is beyond excellent. We so appreciated the service - the kindness, humor, attention to detail and personal touches that made our visit extraordinary. We did not want to leave! We will definitely return next year.

Il San Pietro is an absolute dream. Around the (sometimes) chaos of Positano, it is an area of peace and serenity. The property is *sparkling* clean, the staff are attentive and ever at your service, the GM Andrea personally greets you at check in and is present every day. We stay in hotels a lot, we have ambassador status with Marriott- 1 in every 3 nights is in a hotel. We have never met a GM so present, kind, and caring. I usually mention specific staff members in my reviews as a special thank you for those who go above and beyond. However at Il San Pietro every single staff member was exceptional. Every single person on property performed with the embodiment of luxury and hospitality. It was an honor to stay at such a property and experience this gem. Ps: Special recognition to housekeeping & the culinary team. I developed gluten sensitivity during this trip (before I traveled to Il San Pietro). And was pretty sick at the start of my stay. Housekeeping made sure I was as comfortable as possible, providing extra waters, gluten free treats, and lightly cleaning while I was sick in bed. They were so sweet, I’ll never forget their kindness and care during my vulnerable moments. The same for the culinary team. They helped me greatly by delivering broth and rice to my room- the only thing I was able to eat all day. So kind and thoughtful. When I was able to dine on property, they made me special gluten free pizza, DELICIOUS gluten free pasta, fresh GF ravioli. Ugh I can go on- it was all amazing. Giuliano made sure I was well taken care of at the main restaurant. I appreciated his (and everyone’s!) care and professionalism Until next time!!!! THANK YOU!!!

We had the most incredible experience at this hotel, one we’ll truly never forget. We actually got engaged here, and the staff went above and beyond to make it so special for us. From start to finish, everything was exceptional — the food was phenomenal, the service was warm and attentive, and every part of the property (including the stunning beach club) was absolutely beautiful. This place exceeded all of our expectations, and we already know we’ll be returning for our honeymoon. We couldn’t recommend this hotel enough — it’s a perfect destination for anyone looking for an unforgettable stay.

I was visiting Positano for a few days during my Italy trip and decided to check out the Hotel Il San Pietro Di Positano hotel. This place is absolutely breathtaking from the lobby, restaurant, outside terrace, and beach club. Everything is kept pristine condition and the service is top notch. Andrea is the GM and welcomed me with open arms since my arrival until departure. If you are a tennis fan this place is a MUST as this tennis courts has one of the best views in the world. I booked 2 lessons with Francesco who was not only a great coach but a good person and made the lesson fun while helping elevate your game at the same time…. a win win :) When you arrive you will also be greeted by Stella 🐶 their director of first impressions !

Google
Truly the most magical place you will ever stay. The staff is beyond lovely. The grounds are immaculate, the rooms are charming and well stocked. The hotel made themselves familiar with our schedule so we never saw cleaning or turn down service. Lots of complimentary upgrades all around. This hotel is so special and has so much to offer. We utilized the complementary shuttle which was always ready for us for the 10 minute ride into town and then a short walk to beaches and restaurants but we preferred the restaurants and beach club at the hotel , by far ! Just a spectacular place all around.

From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel so welcome. Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely went out of their way to make our stay special. The hotel itself is beautiful—whether you’re by the waterfront or relaxing on the veranda, the setting feels peaceful and magical. The food was excellent as well, with every meal prepared with such care and flavor. It’s hard to put into words just how wonderful this place is. It’s a rare combination of beauty, comfort, and true hospitality, and we can’t wait to come back!

Magnificent , perfection, &incomparable in every way! Our stay at this very special "quiet elegance "hotel, fulfilled everything we could ever hope for & more on this dream vacation with our sister & "brother". Bravo to Senora Virginia, her wonderful sons, the "bellas & bellos" front desk staff, restaurant staff, & pool attendants & drivers! We wish you another 50 years continued buona fortuna at Il san pietro! Excellence at its finest! The panzarellas

HSP is truly the definition of hospitality. On arrival we were greeted by Andrea, the manager, congratulating us on our anniversary. Check in was very easy. The property itself is breathtaking - from the decor to the impeccable landscaping!! |service is top notch- they truly think of everything. We didn’t eat at zass but carlino by the beach was delicious. It is tucked away about five min from the main part of positano making it nice and quiet. The shuttle service to town is 24/7 which is so convenient- I recommend only visiting in the evenings to avoid the massive day tripper crowds. Overall we had an incredible experience and it was worth every penny. We will be back!!

Yelp
This was definitely a splurge experience for us but totally worth it. We did the 7 course chef menu with the wine pairing and it will always be one of the highlights of our trip. From beginning to end we had an amazing time here. If you are a foodie and seek out fine dining experiences you really cannot go wrong. My only slight (and very slight) comment here is that we reserved our table well in advance noting we were here for our honeymoon but really didn't get a great table. This wasn't a total deal breaker for us as we liked it so much I am still rating this a 5, but was a little disheartening since we treated this as one of our excursions while in Positano. The view is outstanding, the staff is so incredibly friendly and really treated us with care. Our sommelier was incredibly knowledgeable and took her time explaining and enunciating clearly to us! I'll be thinking about the food here for sometime. Total menu included: chilled tomato soup with melon (may just have been my favorite item, or maybe it was just the first out, but my god was it AMAZING!), Tartar with Oyster Sauce, Tortellini in a creamy meat sauce (another fan favorite!), Calamari, Sea Bass, Veal, and a Chilled Peach Desert. Everything was phenomenal, every time something came out we thought it just could not get better but of course it did. This is an experience my husband and I will honestly always cherish. If food is your love language and you can afford to splurge when on vacation this is the place to do it. A truly fantastic restaurant.

Yelp
We dined here last summer during our stay at the Il San Pietro. The views from our table on the patio were absolutely incredible. Our group opted to go with the tasting menu and though I am not vegetarian I chose the vegetarian menu. Each dish was as beautiful as it was delicious. I would highly recommend dining here while in Positano, in fact, this is the kind of meal that you can build a whole vacation around!

Yelp
Zass truly is a slice of paradise in one of the world's most beautiful hotels and locations. To start, the Il San Pietro Hotel is truly otherworldly; the type of place you tell everyone about, purely because of how incredible it is. My wife and I arrived early for dinner and were ushered to a table outside overlooking Positano for a drink. Once our table was ready, we were greeted by a phenomenal waitstaff and delicious dishes. I honestly don't think I've ever enjoyed a piece of fish more than the John Dory Fillet; I still dream about that plate!

Yelp
Absolutely incredible service beginning to end!! The concierge (or valet perhaps?) upstairs at the hotel when you arrive is so sweet and insists on taking a photo of you and whomever you came with- the views are incredible and he REALLY knows what hes doing. A super sweet gesture. Then, down at the restaurant its beautiful- i mean its really something special- the whole hotel is stunning- when you are seated at your table you are served complimentary pizza!! Fresh out of the oven- you can literally watch them make it. Its top tier. The pasta was awesome and although the main courses are small on the portions side its a michelin star restaurant so that is to be expected. The flavor of each bite is *chefs kiss* And dont skip dessert!!! :) The waitstaff is incredibly attentive and care about your experience and strive to make it perfect. Definitely a five star experience. We will be returning! And when we return to positano we plan on staying at the hotel because of how blown away we were.

Yelp
The service was outstanding. However, there were a few mistakes and incorrect items. The food was pretty good but for the price, it wasn't worth it. I wish the food was better because the view is unbelievable

Yelp
Perfection. From the interior design, view, service, and food. I had a wonderful dining experience, and it was nice to sit facing the water during the day. All the staff were so polite! Loved loved loved everything and would love to visit again.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants. Best appetizer pizza (served as an amuse bouche - you can't order pizza). Best ingredients. Intricate menu if you'ré up for it. Or (most importantly) they''ll almost make you anything if they have the ingredients. Service is impeccable. The view is the best in Positano unless you're a bird. If you'ré reading this you know it's attached to the San Pietro which should be a national treasure of Italy

Yelp
One of the best international dining experience I have had . The views are stunning and the service is top notch. They had a live band present playing classical music . They serve a slice of pizza while you wait for your food that is absolutely delicious . Everyone is super nice and food is excellent ! I had the sea bass :)

Yelp
From start to finish this restaurant provided the ultimate dining experience. We arrived early for a reservation and we're warmly welcomed for cocktails and snacks on the rooftop terrace. The views from the rooftop were absolutely breathtaking. Our everyone and need were accommodated. The food and service were impeccable. Highly recommend, worth every penny and accolade!

Yelp
The food was amazing, we tried the seabass, the lemon seafood pasta, the deep fried steak and the blueberry tart - all were very good. The service is impeccable however, the wine refill guy could have been better at pouring a proper glass (once gave half a glass and we got charged for the full). The views from the location are unbeatable, tables nearby were filled with mostly tourists and everyone was very friendly.

Yelp
Disappointing experience! This was the third Michelin-starred restaurant we have tried in Italy this month. The other two were excellent. The only slightly positive note for this restaurant was the excellent very professional sommelier and the delicious wine he recommended. The menu included a tasting menu as well as a La carte choices and a note about accommodating dietary/ allergy restrictions. Our first waiter, an older and clearly experienced waiter, was almost rude when told that cheese was a problem, and abruptly said no accommodation was possible and he would tell us which dishes from the a la carte menu were possible for us. We'd been dining in Italy, fancy and less upscale, for two weeks and had never been treated this way. Next: the food was unappealing and unappetizing. Every dish! Chilled melon soup was instead a flavorless tomato soup poured over small melon balls and chopped cucumber and strawberries. Second: bland pasta with chewy lobster. Main course: bland white John Dory fish alone on a white plate. The requested grilled vegetables were nowhere to be seen. When I pointed this out, they finally showed up when I was finished with the fish. Obviously hastily grilled with way too much olive oil to be edible. My companion chose Seabass and no it looked good when presented as the whole fish, after the waiter attacked it, the mutilated slices of fish appeared alone on a platter. Next to them was a dish of roasted potatoes. Again almost inedible, unappetizing, and incredibly unappealing. We decided to leave as soon as possible and opted out of dessert. As is typical with most restaurants, they did present a small dessert as well. Unlike any other restaurant, it was once again, a pathetic representation. Three small types of jellies and a white plate. Two fruit and one seem to be Lemon coconut. Incomprehensible as to how these restaurants are rated for the Michelin guide. We can only assume it is a relationship with the restaurant or the hotel that guides their rave review. Or they adapt, and put for the greater effort. Avoid the restaurant and try some of the other wonderful restaurants in Positano and elsewhere

Yelp
Zass is the Michelin-stared restaurant at Il San Pietro in Positano. The food, the service and the ambiance are all excellent. From the pizza amuse bouchée to the petit fours, it is a great meal but an amazing experience. The fresh seafood is the star of the show here. A superb wine list compliments the wonderful food.

Yelp
Service impeccable, view is unrivaled, wonderful hotel and the food is not only delicious and creative but also a true work of art.

Yelp
This restaurant has one Michelin star so I was expecting a great meal! Sadly, I was left disappointed. The food was incredibly expensive! I got a very small lobster tempura for an appetizer and it was 40 euro, almost the same price as my sea bass entre. The size of my sea bass was disappointing as well. The food was snobby, if that makes sense. Fancy names and small portions left me a confused and disappointed patron. However, I really loved the complimentary wood-fired pizza that was served prior to our appetizers and meals. It made sense it was complimentary because the food was ridiculously expensive! I recommend this place if you have 1,000 dollars to spend. Overall it wasn't the most awful meal I have had, but it was not the best.

Yelp
We came here for a special honeymoon appertivo and dinner. We came to and from via their free shuttle bus, which was a nice touch, to a spectacular property. Appertivo on the terrace was amazing and by far the highlight. The drinks (mine was the peach bellini) were great and the views were STUNNING as the sun was setting on the sea and Positano. We went for our dinner reservation at ZASS and were promptly seated. Service was top notch and everyone was very nice. The sommelier greeted us and helped us with our wine selection. Our table had an amazing view where we could see fireworks from Praiano for San Gennaro. Unfortunately, it all comes down for me with the food. I've eaten at Michelin star restaurants before and the food here was not up to PAR to deserve a star. Although the food was decent, nothing blew our minds. For $450, one would expect a lot. We started with the pizza appetizer- tasty. Then the grilled octopus, the lobster tempura, lemon lobster pasta - all tasty but nothing mind blowing, inventive, or memorable. Lastly, the catch of the day, salt crusted, was under-seasoned needing salt despite being salt crusted- very peculiar. Nothing here was very creative, inventive, surprising, or unique in quality/flavor the way I usual experience at Michelin restaurants... and If one is aiming for simple and traditional instead- make it the BEST there is. Unfortunately, ZASS failed to meet either culinary styles. We recently had the most tender, mind blowing octopus by the beach for a fraction of the price, lobster pasta at a restaurant even more delicious for less. Overall, I hate to rate Zass so low but the value for money here is not great... Especially after we had other amazing meals in Positano that took our breath away. I'm afraid you pay for the ambiance, views, and service here and the food is nothing to write home about. I would say it's worth it to come here fo a beautiful appertivo with views but the food at dinner was not worthy of 1 michelin star.

Yelp
Starting with the End of the Meal. One of, if not the best desserts I've ever had. To call it simply Creme Brûlée, is unfair to artistry, and flavors went into this experience, but that's the building block for this contsruction that is finished off with espresso grounded over it like peppercorn. And the Tagliatelle with lobster. One word for it too. Incredible.

Yelp
I would not eat as Zass unless you like to overpay for sub par food. I have no idea how Zass was awarded a Michelin Star. My husband and I took no issue with the price, but for this price point and a Michelin Star restaurant, excellent food is expected. Started with a Bellini which was excellent. Ordered the octopus carpaccio & the beef tartare. The octopus, while a beautiful presentation was awful. And we LOVE octopus so it wasn't due to ordering something we don't normally eat. There were more than 15 elements on the plate that made no sense. It wasn't cohesive, there was barely any octopus and it was mixed with an unidentified other food and it was chewy and flavorless. The beef tartare with table side truffles was nice. We have had this same dish at 4 restaurants in Italy so far, and Zass' version was ranked last. Zass is the only Michelin Star restaurant we have eaten at, so that being said I would expect their tartare to be ranked at least 2nd if not first. Onto the pasta. My husband got the ravioli which was excellent. The only excellent thing we ate. I got the lobster pasta with lemon & pistachios. Recommended by the waiter as one of his favorites. This dish was honestly confusing. It seriously tasted like a weird lemon-y pad Thai. The lobster was all claw meat, chopped very fine and was the equivalent of less than 1 claw. I forced myself to eat half of it and that was the best I could do. For €42 this dish should be executed & delicious and contain more lobster meat. Unfortunately the flavor was terrible and the pasta was not cooked to a perfect al dente like every other restaurant in Italy. It was overcooked and soft- like a pad Thai rice noodle. My husband took 1 bite and didn't want any more. Next up- our duck entree that we were sharing. We watched our silver dome covered plate get set in the service area near our table. It then proceeded to sit there and steam under the cover for more than 10 minutes. By the time it was presented to us it was lukewarm and chewy....we told the waiter this and with the language barrier he didn't understand. We didn't eat it, requested the check and got out of there. There are some positive reviews on here and perhaps you will have a better experience...but I wouldn't spend my money here when there are MANY more delicious places in positano and most at 25% of the cost. The worst meal we have had in our 10 days in Italy thus far.

Yelp
This restaurant recommended by a concierge at Le sirenuse a be michelin two starred according to our Yelp reviewer. It has fantastic view. Very friendly wait staff. I started with octopus appetizer which was superior. Octopus was well cooked, just about right on texture. Had red mullet with shrimp and law lobster which tasted well. My BF had ravioli stuffed with cod and John Dory both which were excellent. Dessert was great too. Service might would have been bit slow but acceptable. We will come again. Overall we will prefer La Sponda at Le sirenuse but choosing between them is a high quality problem. Any one will enjoy both.

Yelp
Stayed at the Il San Pietro Hotel and was looking forward to trying this Michelin starred restaurant. As with all views at this hotel, the restaurant has a spectacular vantage point overlooking the Amalfi coastline. Service is top notch as one would expect and the food did not disappoint. Every dish is perfectly prepared and presented. I was expecting a bigger price tag considering the awards and recognition so I'd consider it good value.

Yelp
On our last night in Positano, we wanted to end our trip with a beautiful dinner so I picked this place for my new husband and I. We are staying at Le Sirenuse and we wanted to check out Il San Pietro Hotel because some Americans that we've met during our trip raved about the hotel and maybe we can stay there next time we are in Positano. The hotel was beautiful and we were greeted by the hotel manager right away. We were early for our reservation so we decided to have a drink in their patio/garden first then went on to the restaurant. We were greeted by the hostess and they sat us right away. It is overlooking the Amalfi coastline but we are so tucked away in the corner of the restaurant. The waiter came right away to bring the menu and ask for our drinks with prosecco in hand; I agreed to take the prosecco. We waited 20 minutes for our server (waiter was another person) to acknowledge us, we had to ask our waiter to ask the server to come and that took another 15 minutes. He finally came and we ordered. I ordered the steamed cod and he suggested that I change it to the dory which I was okay with. We then wanted to order wine but he said that the sommelier will come for that. The bread basket came and we almost finished it then the somm came (20 minutes later). He hurriedly asked us what we would like to have and since I'm having fish I opted for the white right away. My hubby asked him what he recommends for his duck dish and the first he did was shrug! Then, he just said there's tons of options and he just pointed to the list and said "maybe this one" and that's it, he said nothing else. My hubby was just so annoyed that he just picked his usual cabernet. Each food item took awhile before they got to us. The hors d'oeuvres was good and then we got our gnocchi - it was delicious but cold. We waited awhile again for our entrées - it was good but it was nothing memorable. I am more than aware that this is a 2-Michelin-starred restaurant; therefore, I expect top notch service and quality of experience. I'm originally from Las Vegas and in the hotel & restaurant industry and I know what the honor entails and Zass was not it! We dined at 1-Michelin-starred La Sponda and it was more than impeccable! The server never came back or even asked how our dishes were or if we needed anything else while the neighboring tables were taken care of.. we were like the forgotten stepchild in our own little corner - the waiter did a great job on refilling our water and asking us if we want more alcohol. We couldn't wait to get out of there and already planning to just have dessert somewhere else because we were treated like we didn't belong there. They gave us complimentary petit fours but we still asked for our check right away. We wanted to like the restaurant so that hopefully we can stay at that hotel next time but it just turned to diner's remorse. I guess we didn't look like we were good enough to dine there - never again.

Yelp
I was traveling on a family vacation this past week. We stayed at a villa in Maiori and over the course of a week made our way along the Amalfi Coast and, one day by boat over to Capri. In Positano, lunch at Zass impressed me by having a favorite white wine from a small vineyard in Tramonti. I thought it was our family's secret, but genius in winemaking is clearly respected by this sommelier. The John Dory used local lemons to great effect, with everyone in our very large group who ordered it trying to remember a better use of St. Peter's fish. Service was impeccable. Members of our group who had stopped off at the San Pietro earlier in the day and met friends staying at the hotel commented that the hotel's waterfront club was at the same level of excellence. A calm peace settled over our fractious group as we completed a stellar lunch in a magnificent setting. The thought occurred to this New Yorker that resolving intractable world problems may be as simple as giving the factions lunch at Zass.

Yelp
Located in the Il San Pietro di Positano Hotel, you walk down stairs through manicured jungle to get to the beautiful lobby and restaurant. It has a luxurious feel and every staff member greets you. Top flight service all night, and a ton of class. Food has a Michelin star for a reason. Lobster-steak tartare, gnocchi, and sea bass all had huge flavor and finesse. The espresso-chocolate desert was perfect. Best dining experience we had in Positano.

Danielle L.

Yelp
Breathtaking views and top notch service. I will definitely make this my go to restaurant every time I visit Positano!

Yelp
Examplary service, ambiance and cuisine. The team greets you with welcome offers the aperitif and makes suggestions on sparking or champagne. The wine list is exhaustive with regions guiding the reference for searching a wine and is well indexed. Massimo the sommelier is very handy and is excitedly keen to show the more unique crus of Campania, where superb value can be found, I.e single vineyard Fiano di Avellino or Falanghina from small producers who do not make enough to export, therefore particularly interesting to the visitor abroad. The food is deft, thoughtfully presented and fresh and bright. Flavours are very balanced. Amuse bounce is a traditional slice of margherita pizza which has been since inception of the restaurant. A tartare of cuttlefish, almost creamy butter-like texture, a ravioli of ricotta and tripe with tiny amounts of super concentrated sauces show the chefs ability to isolate, concentrate and communicate the flavours he intended. A perfect medium rare filet of Amberjack, ideally crispy on one side with lemon and a rucola purée which balances the sweetness and bitterness. An intense selection of cheeses from regional Italy as well as a pannacotta which show creativity of texture and flavour while showcasing the superb quality of the dairy (in this case buffalo cream). Not to miss if in Positano. Bring your wallet, do not be shy and indulge - this place is to savor.
