Dallas’ Best Bowls of Mac and Cheese | Eater Dallas

"It’s unexpected to find a comfort food like mac and cheese on a Lebanese restaurant’s menu, but do not underestimate the power melt-in-your-mouth lamb shank scattered throughout creamy baked pasta and cheese. It’s unbelievable." - Rachel Pinn

13 Essential Dallas Mediterranean Restaurants | Eater Dallas

"Named for a savory Lebanese spice, this Deep Ellum spot is as chic as it is delicious. Lebanese food makes a modern statement here — think towering baskets of falafel, mac and cheese studded with tender chunks of lamb, and hot pink beet-spiked hummus. The space is divided into a hookah lounge on one side and elegant dining room on the other, promising a memorable stop no matter which side diners choose." - Rachel Pinn

As authentic as it gets for Lebanese food. Great food, great service. Outdoor seating little uncomfortable and windy and noisy. However great experience for this area. Note mandatory 20% gratuities/tip will be included on your receipt even for ONE person.

Google
Delicious and filling food. Andrew did a great job with the hookah. I loved the house flavor with peach, blueberry, and mint so much that I got a refill. The drinks are also tastey and reasonably priced. I got the beef kabobs and a margarita. Ryan was a big help too! A must visit for Lebanese cuisine , cocktails and hookah.

Aleice Mitchell

Google
we absolutely loved this place! all of the food was absolutely incredible! gluten free options available were noted on the menu too! pictured are the falafel and garlic potato appetizers.

Ramsey Ayass

Google
Delicious Lebanese food in the heart of Dallas. We had the shawarma chicken, lamb chop, hummos, baba ghannouj, labneh and beef kabob. For a drink, I highly recommend the Lebanese beer Almaza. It's a pilsener that hits the spot 👌🏼

Google
Get the cauliflower. It was so beyond delicious, I might go back and order double. It was a great place to meet friends and chat while having amazing food.

Google
Nice meal prior to concert at The Factory. Had fried cauliflower and lentil croquettes as appetizers followed by gyro plate and salmon entrees followed by warm chocolate cake dessert. Everything was tasty. Service was friendly and meal was well-paced. No complaints.

Reservation: We had a reservation, but the place wasn't too busy if you arrived early enough! Service: 5 out of 5. Our server was fantastic! He provided excellent recommendations and made our dining experience enjoyable. Food: 8 out of 10. We began with the hummus, which was incredibly fresh and flavorful! We also tried the gyro plate and shawarma tacos. I highly recommend the tacos as they were absolutely awesome! Overall, this place is fantastic! Just be aware that the area can be a bit sketchy at night. However, it's definitely worth a visit for the outstanding food and great service!

Salted Caramel

Google
If you feel like exploring new taste you gotta try this spot. we were just looking for something out of our comfort zone and we happened to be around this area so we check it out. Airy and spacious they have 2 separate dining area, one is smoke free and the other is the hooka lounge where you can also dine. I tried the grape Leaves for the first time it is Diffinately new taste that I unlock on my pallete. There are more stuff to chose from on the menu. Explore the menu and you might find a new favorite food of yours.

Yelp
The food is great and the hookah is amazing. I was only in the city for a couple of days on business. And i'm an advent Hookah lover and have been smoking for 10+ years. The staff were amazing and attentive I have found my favorite spot to come to when I visit or am on business.

Yelp
This is a lowkey go to spot in deep ellum. They have a good happy hour and strong drinks. Their hookah is $15 for happy hour which is cool. The staff is attentive and even changed the tv to show the mavs game.

Yelp
Ahhhh the vibes, gotta love the music here. Came for a lil hookah on a lovely semi cloudy afternoon and it did not disappoint. With all the hustle and bustle in Deep Ellum this was a nice escape. Our sever Ryan, was great, super attentive and patient. The appetizer sampler was delicious and the pickled radishes made my heart smile. Perfectly complimented by a pot of mint tea, thanks for everything I needed.

Yelp
I ordered the jack frost cocktail. This was like ambrosia in a cup! Also dangerous as I couldn't even taste the alcohol. If youre in the mood for super sweet, dessert like cocktails, this is the place to be. The mezze platter is definitely worth getting if theres a group of people that are hungry. All of the dips are great, especially the hummus. The falafel are some of the best you can get in Dallas. They are crispy, full of spice on the inside, and a fluffy interior. The cheese cigars are good, but not as fantastic as they could be. Im biased because I really like the cheese cigars they serve at Baboush instead. The fattoush salad was good, but don't expect anything fancy or artisanal. The pita bread is the weakest part of the platter. It's the flat, straight from a bag pita that's filler in my opinion. The mixed brochette isnt as good as a value or a platter as I had hoped. Most of the meat felt kinda dry and overcooked. The one meat that stood out the most was the beef kabobs. The portion of meat is also quite small for what you get. I don't expect a whole filet of steak, but I feel either they need to serve more meat, or lower the price for what you receive. The platter alos has way more rice than meat. I wouldn't recommend the brochette, but I would recommend the beef kabobs (assuming backstaff cook it right). Service wise, our waiter and staff were cordial, but there are times where they weren't as accessible as I would have hoped. I imagine they are understaffed, as it seemed only two waiters for the whole floor on a Saturday night. Ive been wanting to try this place for a while. Im glad I was finally able to, but I will say it seems hit and miss. While they have a lot more stuff on the menu I havent tried yet, my intial impression isnt magical.

Yelp
What a hidden gym. I've lived in Dallas in entire life and was always curious about this place. I attended a Sunday afternoon with friends. The place is separated; one side hookah lounge/ the other side restaurant. We opted for the hookah lounge. I can't comment on hookah experience bc I did not partake. However the food and cocktails were delish. I had the Lebanese mixed grill with chicken and beef kabob. The tabouli was great and good overall was seasoned nicely. The service was subpar and the hummus lacked flavor. I'll be back to taste more menu items. The lavender lemon drop was also tasty

Yelp
I'm glad I stumbled upon this spot. The decorations were nice and the music was definitely an R&B/Hiphop vibe. The customer service was really good. Our server and the hookah guy stopped by frequently to check on us and make sure we were good. I got the lavender lemon drop martini which was super delicious and my guys margarita was good too. The hookah flavor watermelon, peach, mint was good. The only downside of this place is that it gets really cold in the hookah side of the restaurant. The windows are not insulated and you could definitely feel it. The hookah sat between us did supply a little warmth though. I'd definitely go back. Edit: The management let me know that the cold weather hit them by surprise and since have set up space heaters to make sure guests are comfortable. This is awesome!

Yelp
I've been coming to Zatar for some time now. and I've always usually love my experience But i came in this past tuesday and my experience was really bad. I was sitting on the wall when our waiter Quinn was absolutely rude for no reason he came up to our table with an attitude which set the tone for the rest of the evening. it just made me very uneasy seeing as I love this place so much. other than that everything else was fine per usual.
google avatar

Yelp
I was visiting Dallas, as I waited for my friend I decided to wait at Zåtar. The host was super welcoming and stored my luggage once I walked in. I arrived at 7pm, it was pretty calm not many people. I order mojitos, hookah and chicken wrap. Let me tell you, these mojitos were made to perfection! Perfect balance of each ingredient! I saw a few plates and completely regretted getting a chicken wrap lol but it was tasty! Staff were constantly checking in, which I appreciated! The music was such a vibe both days. Loved this place so much ended up coming back for hookah and drinks the next day.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the food - so many vegetarian options and also gluten-free ones (except pita of course). I enjoyed the dips with falafels, especially loving the labneh. Service was friendly, the decor is basic, ambiance is on the casual cafe side.
google avatar

Simone P.

Yelp
Absolutely love love love the food. Drinks are solid as well. The ambiance is a very chill hookah spot with good music. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
This is a lovely restaurant with good food. We ordered a mixed grill plate and two small plates. Everything was well prepared and any dislikes would have been of personal preference not because of poor food. We liked it all. Please note that this restaurant is devided into two sections, one is a more formal restaurant and the other is casual and has hookah smoking. I am a non smoker and wouldn't want to expose kids to it. The more formal side has incense burning. Like serving people wearing cologne or perfume, I find the smell doesn't mix well with the food. I like the cooking smells and not the overly sweet smell of the incense. So for me although the food was good the smells and expense ( it is not inexpensive) make this restaurant a pass for me.
google avatar

Moriah D.

Yelp
Love the staff here. Always a nice and relaxed vibe. The hookah HITS and is very affordable! The food is just ok, but it's good for small bites. The fries are bomb and most of the appetizers! Lavender lemon drop is my absolute favorite drink, so refreshing and delicious! Follow me for more! @MissMo2323

Yelp
Zatar is perfect for a friends night out, date night and even a solo night out. Ryan and Joe was my server and they were friendly and attentive. I tried the lemon pepper and Buffalo and they were really good and crispy. I also had the peachy moscato cocktail and highly recommend. It is very sweet but good. Their hookah is authentic and doesn't burn fast. I had a hookah that lasted 3 hours straight!!! They play light music and it is located in deep ellum. I'll be a regular here from now on

Yelp
We were so excited to try this place based on reviews. We are foodies and travel all over the country trying everything, especially Mediterranean food. Lebanese being our favorite. This was listed as a top 5 in Dallas, and I'm sorry to say it shouldn't have been. I feel like it gets a lot of hype due the Hookah lounge. The decor was a bit random. Random clay pots on wall, a few mandalas, a drum and your typical generic chandeliers. It just seemed like someone haphazardly threw stuff on a wall. The food was fresh, but sort of small portions. Pita was tortilla thin & dry. All meats served also seemed dry & were small portions. The rice was dry and not very flavorful. cheese cigars were ok. For a Sunday at 6pm, the food should have been fresher. The delish items were the falafels and Rocca Salad. The hummus sampler good, smooth & fresh. The service was good but could have been more attentive; it felt like the server was more focused on the Hookah lounge side. I'll come back, but have lower expectations.
google avatar

Manvita M.

Yelp
The food service was very prompt and the platter for was very juicy and fresh. The falafel basket was really good too. It was super crowded and generally that's the case during weekends apparently. But good service and not so bad hookah.
google avatar

Anastasiya T.

Yelp
Good food, quick service, affordable pricing. In the heart of Deep Ellum. Good place to grab a quick bite

Yelp
Came here for a birthday dinner. Didn't do hookah, so I can't speak to that. But the food was amazing. We ordered at least five or six dishes and I can't even remember the names of them, but there was nothing that I wouldn't eat again.
google avatar

Melisa A.

Yelp
I'm so disappointed... the menu looked amazing! We had reservations, which once we arrived it was empty on the inside. The patio was packed. We were greeted and seated immediately. Then we sat........................ This is the biggest disappointment on service! We had earlier plans and we're starving. We waited.............. and waited....... Then walked out! I cannot understand why on earth restaurants do this? It's amazing to me that this even happens, especially in Deep Ellum we can walk to the next destination. Today businesses can't afford to lose customers. I won't give this place a second chance. Really wish they would have at least got us drinks. That would have made us stay about 15 mins past what we should have.
google avatar

Greg A.

Yelp
What jerks. The only restaurant I've ever been to in Texas that requires you to buy bottled water. They refuse to serve tapwater instead of polluting the world with all that plastic just do a restaurant cover charge because that's what it is. Food is good. the service is deplorable, the owners should be ashamed of themselves. I guess they don't realize the world has a plastic problem that they're contributing to greatly. I will never step foot in that restaurant again.
google avatar

Jordan S.

Yelp
The hookah here is always amazing. The food and drinks are good. It's very seldom that I have to wait for a table unless it's after 10:30. It's a very chill vibe and they place great up on date music. I love this place and will continue to come back.
google avatar

Maria G.

Yelp
Came in to kill time and have some dinner before a show. The service was awesome, the whole staff checks on you. I had the chicken shawarma, it was delicious. The hummus wasn't my favorite but I'd be open to trying other items on the menu. The hookah lounge next door had a nice vibe.

A S.

Yelp
The labne with zaatar was very good and the pita was reasonably fresh. The hummus was lousy and the tabouleh was waaay below average.
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
Food was so delicious! Loved the music and available hooka bar. Nice service. We will be back

Yelp
Went rather early on a Friday night, not yet full. Meet with a warm welcome and seated immediately. The patio area is clean, spacious and intimately lit after dark. Ended up ordering a few sides, a drink, and hookah, all were lovely. Both the waitress and guy managing the hookahs were attentive in their service, both the food and hookah came out very quickly. Would absolutely recommend a date night or catch up with friends here.
google avatar

Ema M.

Yelp
We had a great time eating here. We ordered the lamb chops, mixed grill and the spicy hummus . And some wine ! Everything was delicious. We ate it all! The only thing I would change is the pita bread could have been warm when brought out. Other then that I would recommend this place. Great service too, it wasn't too busy on a Friday night. And if you're interested in hookah, they have an area separate for that.
google avatar

Kristen D.

Yelp
For authentic, amazing bites, go to Zatar! The beef shwarma and lamb are two of favorite things. The flavor and tenderness of the lamb is unparalleled. The salmon also comes out in a nice portion and lots of flavor. I haven't tried and appetizer that I haven't loved. Their bar tenders can whip up just about anything you want and it taste perfect! The service and management go above and beyond to make event enjoyable!
google avatar

Anthony H.

Yelp
This would be an ideal spot in weather when it is not cold because it is very chilly inside but the atmosphere is great! Good music and good hookah! Service is on point too!
google avatar

dean d.

Yelp
It's, well, umm, very average. It is a tourist area. The Sambousek was ok. Tabbouli was ok. Labneh was ok. Hummus was ok Chicken shawarma was ok. Fried cauliflower was ok. It was all ok.
google avatar

Breanna T.

Yelp
Really nice spot to get hookah, listen to good music and have chill vibes! I didn't get any food here but it smelled really good and they have a full bar!! They was not crowded at all and the people were very attentive! And they had reallllly good hookah with free refills!!
google avatar

Erica W.

Yelp
I always come here for a nice drink and some good hookah. But the food is pretty amazing as well. Who knew that a Mediterranean place would have such great wings and salmon?!! They also have really good lamb hummus. Servers are always nice and attentive as well.
google avatar

Lisa B.

Yelp
The salmon was was over cooked and dry. Menu is on the pricey side. Waiter was fantastic. I would not come back here.

P F.

Yelp
Good food and friendly environment for friends gathering. Service was good but not a parking friendly restaurant
google avatar

Bryandt D.

Yelp
This is my go-to hookah bar in Dallas. There aren't many hookah bars in the city but this has to be the best. They have great hookah and the service is great. The staff is very friendly and always happy to help. Not only can you smoke hookah but you can pair it food and cocktails. I usually get the shawarma and the Zatar old fashioned. The best time to stop by is on the weekend. They have music and usually have the games on their tv. The also have a projector set up just in case you want to watch the games on the big screen. They don't have a parking lot and street parking is limited so it probably would be best to Uber if coming from out the city.
google avatar

Sarah T.

Yelp
Food was delicious and a great place for groups! The sampling tray was great. Definitely recommend the kofta, cheese cigars, and babganoush
google avatar

Tyra B.

Yelp
Nice chill spot with good wings, drinks, and hookah! I tried the lavender lemon drop and now I'm obsessed!!! My new favorite spot in Deep Ellum for those chill nights.
google avatar

B D.

Yelp
Went a lil early but the Music and vibe was just right as well as the food (Gyro and chicken tenders). Be back to catch the late night vibe
google avatar

Connie H.

Yelp
So chill, did the zatar special hookah and it was amazing ( peach with mint) then ended up getting food/ hummus and kinda of their mixed grill. The beef and chicken were amazingly tender!!
google avatar

Annika B.

Yelp
Interior is nice, servers were friendly, but there was only one person and her attention was spread, we had to flag down for things. we got appetizers , hummus was so strange, nutty and no flavor i got the falafel wrap, soo dry. my friends got the moussaka, they said it tasted like the lunchables pizza sauce... overall this place was so expensive for..... literally nothing special at all i trust yelp normally but this place should have 3 stars maybe
google avatar

Elianne V.

Yelp
Came here for late lunch in Deep Ellum! Overall, I've had better Lebanese food (comparing to my experiences in Los Angeles) but overall not a bad find. Ambience: Liked the open space, patio option, and light. Overall comfortable and easy to have conversation. Clean. Service: Service was quick and friendly! Food: Beef shawarma hummus + pita 4/5 -- good sized portion with generous servings of beef Falafel 3/5 -- mediocre, too fried/oily Mixed special 3/5 -- the grilled sirloin was well cooked (medium) and tender, the chicken and kafta were a bit dry Kenefeh 3/5
google avatar

Yelp
Our family, all adult, had a terrific time here. Very festive atmosphere. The server timed our dishes perfect. The gyro meat in the platter was moist and savory. The single hookah lasted throughout our dinner. I had the lamb chops medium rare and it was amazing. We loved the baba ganoush, dolma, kefta, and falafel appetizer. Everyone was happy with their food. The cook, herself, came out to check on us. We will try to make it to Zatar every time we are in Dallas.
google avatar

Erin V.

Yelp
We came in to dine on a Saturday night. We had no trouble getting seated right away and the place was pretty quiet in general. Decor was minimal and sophisticated. Our waitress, Weave, was incredible friendly and helpful. The food was good but not particularly unique or special in any way.
google avatar

LaKaylah L.

Yelp
I made dinner reservations for my anniversary on 12/31/22 for 8:45PM. On arrival I was greeted at the host stand with the most genuine & warm welcome & congratulations! we were given the option of hookah or non-smoking dining, of course we smoked hookah. I ended up ordering rose & peach hookah... it was AMAZING! I ordered 2 cocktails, lavendar lemon drop 1000/10 & beirut ol'fashioned VERY POTENT, very well served. I also ordered the lamb chops medium with a side of rice & it was so tender, just overall a very pleasant experience! I will definitely be back this' definitely a Deep Ellum gem!!! I don't have pics, I only took videos from the night, just trust me.
google avatar

Diana V.

Yelp
Really good and unique food for Deep Ellum!! I've been meaning to try this place forever. I walked by the open patio and it always smells so good. I love food like this so I'm glad I finally made my way here! Plan to eat family style!! The best way to go here IMO. They even have family style plates as an option! The gyro plate was excellent. The meat was cooked to perfection. The French fries are also amazing- perfect complement. I will say the pita bread wasn't my favorite, and since it's personally my favorite part, that's why I'm docking a star. It was a bit too hard for me. Also I usually am a sucker for stuffed grape leaves, but I didn't really enjoy them and wouldn't order them again. I'm very happy I finally ate here!!
google avatar

Erica H.

Yelp
The food is so good and the waiters are so nice! Try the Booza for dessert--IT'S AMAZING!!

Guss A.

Yelp
Good Hookah and good service My only take they could do better job cleaning especially the bathrooms.
google avatar

Jana B.

Yelp
The hummus duo and pita bread to start with were absolutely amazing. I tried the beet hummus, everyone loved it but I personally don't like beets so it was not for me, but it was beautiful! I had a spicy margarita which had a chili pepper/salt mixture on the rim that perfectly complimented the drink. The falafel basket was SO good, probably my favorite part of the meal and they came in a cute little basket. The family served salad (Fattoush) was very flavorful and fresh. The cheese cigars were really good as well, it would be hard if I had to choose just one appetizer next time. The owner who hosted the yelp event we went to did a great job of explaining how things were served and I could tell he really loved his restaurant and the food that was served! I can't wait to go back and try other things on the menu that we did not sample at the yelp event. We even stayed after eating and enjoyed hookah! Thank you so much for having us!
google avatar

Dan W.

Yelp
The waiter you want is Sal. He was working Saturday night and was fun, respectful, checked up on us often and made us feel extremely welcomed. He offered suggestions of what to eat and where to go in town and they were all great options. The food was delicious. Excellent portions for a more than reasonable price. I did not do hookah, which they offer, but valued the ambiance, the music, and the overall energy. Would definitely recommend and go again for the schwarma, kabobs, hummus, and Akra!
google avatar

Theresa A.

Yelp
Why do people keep rating mediocre places so highly? It's ok, but I've had a better food at lower prices.
google avatar

Charis S.

Yelp
Thanks to Yelp I FINALLY got to experience this Deep Ellum gem! Such a quaint, diverse and eclectic restaurant and the staff was just wonderful, especially the owner. Welcomed with a warm introduction and ready to feed us. We started with the hot, fresh, fried pita bread. Oh my gosh! If I could have that everyday, with all of my dishes, it would be the best! We had it with the spicy hummus, beet hummus and olive oil. I think I ate a basket and a half LOL, followed by the phyllo and cheese cigars. Cute and yummy! The entree, family style of course. Lamb shank pieces, on a bed of aromatic, fragrant beef & raisin rice. Hot and fresh and A LOT of food! The flavor was so different and the raisins in the rice added that slightly sweet hint. A good addition. I do want to make another visit, try some more things, definitely! Great patio area for a get together with friends, date night, people watching, hookah too! Love a hookah!
