Zazie

"In the city's historic Jewish quarter of Kazimierz, you’ll find this busy little bistro with a bustling atmosphere that belies its residential location. Ask for a table in the characterful cellar, which mixes French memorabilia with brick and stone walls. The Gallic influence continues into the cooking, with dishes like beef Bourguignon and classic onion soup with Gruyère cheese among the gutsy and generously sized options on the menu." - Michelin Inspector

We had a lovely evening at Zazie! The food was amazing, we had the salmon and the beef cheeks which were on point and absolutely tender with mashed potatoes. The salmon was also really good and a nice combination with all the other flavours. We also had the homemade lavender lemonade which was not too sweet and had a nice lavender taste but not overpowering. For dessert we had the cheesecake and the bread pudding, both were very tasty and we really enjoyed it! Great atmosphere and very nice and friendly staff!!

Great atmosphere, music, service, and of course food! The cheese appetizer in filo was incredible, and my partner loved the beef checks and I loved the mussels. We hope to come back to try dessert as we were too full this time.

I am utterly perplexed as to how Zazie Bistro made it into the Michelin Guide Poland 2024. If this represents Michelin-level gastronomy, I dread to think what other establishments have been included. 1. Onion soup with red wine and mashed potatoes with Gruyere cheese – an absolute disaster. Instead of a rich and flavorful French onion soup, I was served a wine-based broth with barely a hint of onion and some mashed potatoes that had simply been thrown in and torched. The Gruyere was almost nonexistent, but when it did make an appearance towards the end, the combination with the wine broth triggered my gag reflex. I have never had anything worse in my life. Additionally, the portion size is completely inappropriate for a starter. It was a full-sized deep bowl of soup, which does not fit the concept of a pre-main-course appetizer. 2. Crayfish bisque with snails and dried capers – a small but decent portion for a starter. However, in my opinion, this dish should be moved to the soup section and served in a full portion. 3. We ordered a side of mashed potatoes because the waiter told us that the main dishes do not come with any sides and that the portions would be too small to be satisfying on their own. When the mashed potatoes arrived, they were plain and underwhelming—no croutons, no caramelized onions as we had expected. Instead, they were sprinkled with chives and an unidentified hard, flavorless topping that resembled brown sugar but had absolutely no taste. For a place listed in the Michelin Guide, this lack of attention to detail was truly disappointing. 4. Beef rib with pepper sauce, lettuce, and green peas – one of the few edible dishes. The meat was tender and flavorful. However, there were far too many whole peppercorns, which overwhelmed the dish. 5. Sirloin steak with milk garlic, green pea hollandaise sauce with roasted pepper, roasted shallots, and salted butter – a complete disappointment: • Nobody asked how I wanted my steak cooked. • It was served already cut into large chunks (why?). • The doneness was inconsistent – one side was well done, while the other was rare. • The pepper sauce was a disaster. The whole peppercorns were completely tasteless, yet they were excessively abundant, making the sauce unpleasant. They should have either been removed or properly infused into the sauce. • The green peas were completely lost—I couldn’t taste them at all. • The meat was tough and sinewy, which is highly unusual for a cut that is supposed to be tenderloin. 6. Water for 12 PLN – a carafe of plain tap water with no additions (no lemon, no ice)—seriously? Service While the waitstaff were efficient, there were several off-putting aspects: • A staff member, possibly the owner or manager, stood near the bar for an extended period, loudly chatting and laughing with the bartender and a waiter. • When we were leaving, another staff member replaced her, seemingly there not to work but to socialize and have a meal behind the bar. Atmosphere For a Michelin-listed restaurant, I found it extremely odd that we were able to pick any table we liked during peak hours, and in the 1.5 hours we spent there, only two other guests arrived. That alone speaks volumes. This restaurant left a terrible impression. I would never recommend it and will never return.

The food is so so good! We had the cheese soufflé with the squid and the octopus with mashed potatoes. Both absolutely delicious and very filling. I’ll be back for sure!

Google
Absolutely wonderful restaurant in Krakow's Jewish quarter. Michelin recommended and for good reason, fabulous food and very reasonable prices. Great service and ambiance. The mussels and duck were to die for!

Google
Fabulous food, great service and a lovely atmosphere. The mussels where amazing, the steak truly flavourful and the beef cheeks was delicious! We only wish we had room for dessert also! We also got beer and wine with out meal. Very good value for money.

Google
Fantastic, slightly experimental, cuisine. We've had roast beef (asked for medium, was exactly medium), clams, polenta and crayfish bisque, mixed with some home riesling. Everything was great, but the polenta was truely out of this world, highly recommend.

When we read the menu, we had high hopes of eating something extraordinary. the dishes were good and really big, but for me the ingredients of the main menu (octopus & mussels) didn't go together, I didn't quite understand the dish. some ingredients were totally lost in the dish due to the combination and many components. the dessert (creme brulee) was good, all in all it was certainly worth a visit, however, I don't have to return.

Yelp
Very small breakfast selection ; overpriced and not great waitstaff. Airport location takes advantage of the fact that there are few sit down restaurants nearby, and offers very little for too much money

Yelp
Oh! Zazie, Zazie Bistro, I was waiting to try you for a while. When I finally had occasion to taste something from the menu, it left me with a feeling of disappointment mixed with a dash of irritation. The lunch menu looked very promising. I decided to have one cheese raviolo with chanterelles mushrooms and butter. Also, I chose snails with fava beans, orzo pasta, hollandaise sauce and fresh dill :). Honestly, both dishes were very tiny, heavy on butter, and were also pretty bland. I enjoyed the raviolo, but the mushrooms needed more salt at least. The snails had only texture, no taste. They skimped on pasta, but not on butter or sauce. If I didn't have a beer, I would leave the restaurant hungry. Surprisingly, I wasn't offered or suggested to order any bread or baguette with my food, and they didn't give any with the meal. It would add some balance and texture, plus it's a cheap way to make people feel happy. I thought the zabaione was too sweet, but I enjoyed it the most anyway. I also don't understand why they were making such a big deal about having reservations. I wanted to grab lunch the day before, but only tables downstairs in the empty basement were offered. The restaurant actually wasn't busy at the moment, and I could even sit at the bar with no problem. I came back the next day and the first floor had only three tables occupied during my whole visit, including mine. My server was polite, and the place was cute. I liked the solid and heavy silverware, but wished my food was tastier and the chef more thoughtful.

Yelp
You really can't beat the price! Cheapest Michelin Restaurant in Europe. Yes please. My group had a great experience here, we tasted many dishes and it didn't break the bank. We had the shrimp panko, as well as beef tartare for an appetizer. Then we each ordered a main dish, a cocktail, and then split a bottle of Prosecco. Portions were just fine for what they are. You can't go into a Michelin rated restaurant expecting huge portions, but we all left feeling full and satisfied. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and the sauce that came with them was delicious. The beef tartare was excellent and full of flavor. I had the pasta with shrimp and muscles and it was sooooo good. The muscles had the most flavor out of any other muscle dish I've ever tried. I would definitely come back if I'm ever in town again!

Yelp
The story happened on February 17th. My boyfriend and I came to Krakow and wanted to visit this restaurant on my birthday. We specifically booked a table in advance for 16:00. At the end we came, we were told that we were not booked for 16:00, but for 14:00, the manager mixed up the time. In the end, we weren't offered anything, everything was busy until the end of the day, the birthday was ruined, left a bad impression on the staff and the manager, who just mixed up the time. We never got to try the food at this restaurant. I don't recommend this place due to the staff's attitude to visitors!

Yelp
So happy we got a table here! I've been wanting to come here since our last visit a year ago but unfortunately it is a bit difficult to get a reservation. This time we arrived 20 minutes after they opened and we were able to score an available two top :) they opened at 12 today so by the time it was 12:30, all tables were booked. I overheard the waitress telling a customer that the best way to make a reservation is by calling them and not email. Food: We got the lavender and rose lemonade. Both were good and pretty with flower petals on top. For starters we got the goat cheese with onion marmalade dish and the snails. My favorite out of the two was the goat cheese dish, but both were good. I felt like the flavor combination of the goat cheese with phyllo and pear was perfect :) For mains, I got the goose leg while my bf got the squid. Both were delicious, but I liked the squid dish more as the flavors were more refreshing. Service: Great! The server was so kind Overall: This restaurant is small and worth getting a reservation for. The flavor combinations of some of the dishes were on point. I would highly recommend coming here! Also, it is pretty affordable! Everything I mentioned above was less than 40 euros :)

Yelp
This is one of those cases where place and food do not match. Place looks disorganized, without any design thought, confusing even. Neumerous rooms with single tables, open brick walls, old furniture, almost too much light. But let me tell you, when you see and taste the food you will forget all of the above. I had squid and it was unbelieveable. Four stars are for poor selection of beer and deserts.. C'mon chef!!! How can you serve that cheese cake, brownie, and whatever was in that rock glass... Apple??

Yelp
Nice place for a date night! Been there twice already and each time it's been great. I highly recommend deserts: Creme brûlée and Trifle were just pure heaven. There's also a good variety of house wines to choose from both whites and reds. Place is small and cozy and the service is really good however sometimes it might take a while when the restaurant is full. It's worth to mention that main dishes come in really fast even if the place is quite crowded. Overall experience is great so far however still haven't tried famous mussels :-)

Yelp
all I can say is YUM! portions are big but uniquely designed with great flavor combos. I'd recommend sharing everything so you can try it all. Make a reservation because this place fills up. Fun unique Michelin bib restaurant. I like the French fusion vibe!

Yelp
Zazie bistro is just a fabulous, relaxed, French bistro with delicious, sensibly priced food, there is a reason why you should always book. The mussels are a highlight, nice big ones that you don't seem to get elsewhere in Krakow and the French copy of English summer pudding (pudding with fruit and brioche or something like that in the menu) is delicious. They also have really good French cider by the carafe which goes down very well on a hot day.

Yelp
This was quite an experience! Didn't expect this kind of service and quality from the word "Bistro" in its name! This restaurant is serving rather rare French kitchen (don't know why Polish people undervalue French food so much). The meals are delicious! I went for a lunch menu which included 2 servings of main dishes and some good wine. Definitely recommended for foodies ;)

Yelp
Don't let the external ambiance fool you. This simple exterior has amazing food, similar to any Michilan star restaurant. The goat cheese with marmalade starter and the Gruyere and emmentaler souffle starter were outstanding. We had the beef ribs, beef bourguignon, squid steak, and quiche for main courses and they were all exquisite! Just ordered the cream brulee and can't wait. Would highly recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
This place is very unassuming and so cool on the inside! The cellar is very cool and charming. The food is good, and reasonably priced.

Yelp
This is my favorite French restaurant in Kraków. Very nice restaurant, food is delicious and the service is very friendly. The wine selection is mediocre, but well justified by the low prices. Definitely worth a visit. Tartar and the duck, followed up by the cheesecake with passion fruit sauce, is a killer trio if you have the stomach for it.

Yelp
Enjoyed a delicious and memorable meal here, and found the atmosphere to be especially nice. What impressed me the most was the honesty of the employees. I left my coat on the back of the chair and it had a passport and quite a bit of cash, but didn't know what I'd done until the next morning. I went back, a full 24 hours later, and the employee kindly directed me to the wall where they'd hung my coat. The passport and cash was still in the pocket and I'm just so, so, thankful.

Yelp
Ok came here because of the reviews and one I could actually ready by Kasia. Any I live at the top of Kraków so it's a commitment to come South. I wasn't disappointed. The menu was in Polish so I went with a guess which was perfect. They do have a English menu but as it serves French dishes didn't want to have a forced argument with chef. I have beef with potatoes in a pepper source and a glass of red. It was perfectly cook and substantial. I had to have the brûlée as it looked amazing and tasted as good. This is a lovely little bistro nice and busy. Nothing to look at but is actually quite French. Would recommend a visit and I'll be back

Yelp
I was disappointed. We were sent there by Karakter staff- the place we loved yesterday. The name is promising -- French right?? but.... it was too bright there, the place lacks style, the atmosphere could be so much better... We tried 3 different wines each one was poor-- especially since the wine at Karaker was so good. We left without trying the food. No regrets. Very kind service. But if you can, go to Karacter.

Yelp
My wife and I really enjoyed Zazie on our trip to Krakow. It was one of the standouts of the whole trip. The atmosphere was lovely. They were very friendly and accommodating to our mixed language group. The food itself was delicious (who knew tomato soup and bread could be enough of a standout that we'd find ourselves craving it a year and a half later). Highly recommended.

Yelp
An off-the-beat small cozy french place with genuine french cuisine. The atmosphere, the staff, service and the food all show the best of what France has to offer the culinary world. Would give 5 stars if it werent for the fact that they've replaced the potato gratin with a baguette on the beef bourguignon when you order it as a 'zestaw' instead of a la carte. Nevertheless HIGHLY recommend Zazie for french cuisine in Krakow.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in the city. Food is most times great and recently I was always satisfied with what they offered. The service is rather good but it happened we had issues to get a bill. Try dishes from the black board and definitly some meat. And be sure to book a table in advance as the place is quite populare.

Kasia R.

Yelp
The place is absolutely divine! I mean the atmosphere of an old, brick-walled cellar, with great light and intimacy (great for a date!). What was the food like? Hard to put it in words.. let me try: delicious, heavenly, fantastic, awesome! It is still not enough... You should go and try on your own. Great service also helps a lot.

Yelp
We stopped for desert and had a chocolate soufflé that was to die for. Wish we had time to sample more. Note that there is a down stairs.

Jay H.

Yelp
This food was mediocre at best. But not bad for the rest of the bland food that you'll find in Krakow.

Meghann P.

Yelp
I think about Zazie every time I'm not in Kraków. Their meals are always lovely. The service is friendly and professional. Most of all, I find their pâté and fruits of the forest pudding exceptional. This really is a great date destination (this place can fill up, so reservations are recommended), but, if you are looking for something less formal, the lunch deals are awesome too! Also, the price to food ratio (and food quality) is spot on.

Paul S.

Yelp
Bad service...even when you tell them you celebrate the birthday! The food was cold and the waiter with the big attitude. Never again will visit this place.
