After walking in to Copelands, my husband decided that he wanted to go to Zea's next door instead. I was hesitant walking into Zea's, because the parking lot was almost empty. There were only about 6-8 cars. The menu was short and to the point, almost to the point where I was undecided on what to get. After perusing their Yelp page, there was a consensus that the thai shrimp were good. Being as though I wasn't starving, I settled on the "small plates" section.
At the table:
Thai shrimp - small plate (4)
Rib Stack - small plate (3)
Mango mojito
Chipotle Chicken Sandwich w/ grits on the side
Kids grilled chicken alfredo
Thai duck with a stir fry of noodle & veggies
Thai shrimp (4) were great, nice size, very fresh and flavorful. Either I was too hungry or missed the memo about the tails being hidden in the batter. I was left picking the shells out of my teeth. I learned my lesson after devouring the first two. The rib stack was ok, it didn't impress me and was a little bland. I did a quick fix by dipping it into my thai sauce from the shrimp (crisis adverted). I was surprisingly full after eating 3 shrimp and 2 and a half of the rib stacks. Unfortunately, my mango mojito missed the mark, as the mint leaves were wilted and made the drink very tart. I didn't taste any mango flavor at all. I ended up digging the mint out of the drink.
From my son's perspective, the Chipotle Chicken Sandwich w/ grits on the side was ahhmazing. The fact that they put the chipotle sauce on the side was a bonus, because he was able to use as much or less as possible. He raved about the grits, as did everyone else in the Yelp reviews. Kids grilled chicken alfredo, was impressive for a kid's meal. I was pleasantly surprised by the portion. The kids enjoyed it and didn't have anything left over.
Now for the "Pièce De Résistance", Thai duck with a stir fry of noodle & veggies! I wasn't sure how this would work out because of the mixed reviews online, but my husband and kids thoroughly enjoyed this. Their thai sauce should be bottled and sold, its "that" good. The duck was very appealing on the plate, with its light bronze exterior.
Atmosphere: We came at a good time because the 6-8 cars quickly multiplied, and by the time we left, we were looking at a packed house. The restaurant was clean, but very dim. The bathrooms were clean as well, my daughter really liked the bathroom. It reminded me of a bathroom in a nice Hilton hotel. All in all, good experience. I'd like to see more surf and turf options on the menu. Also, the server lead with the sweet potatoes being out of season, so they weren't on the menu. I thought that was odd, considering we came 2 days after Thanksgiving.
