So I'm doing this hardcore 30 day cleanse with my wife and the options, at least in my mind, are super super limited. It's been a challenge coming up with recipes and things that sound good to cook. Make way for the weekend and putting the responsibility into someone else's hands! The wife ordered what I would term as a buddha bowl with cauli rice, and I went with Tom Kha (thai soup) vegan style, and the sweet potato wedges. We also ordered the kombucha and a cauli buffalo wings to share, since the appeal of something crunchy and full of flavor was really appealing (one can only survive on mush for so long). The kids ordered 2 eggs, scrambled with gouda and bacon, and the banana french toast.
My stuff was good. I felt like the portion size for the cost, at least on the wedges and soup wasn't that great. The flavor was good tho. The potatoes were nicely roasted with some sort of good seasoning, sort of garam-ish, and with 3 thin lines of sauce... out of the mojo, "ranch", and harrissa, I loved the harissa. I also ordered a side of the fresno hot sauce, which was delicious. The soup was pretty tasty. There was large pieces of galangal and lemon grass to give it some cred, and the flavor was mostly on point. It needed a little more heat and perhaps some sweet potatoes to give it something more than just onions and mushrooms in terms of mouthfeel. I finished it pretty quickly and disappointedly, as it was an $8 bowl of soup.
My wife's green dish was pretty good. She enjoyed the flavors and used the remainder of the fresno hot sauce that didn't make it into the soup or sweet wedges. It had a decent crunch, good mixture of vegetables, including some kale labeled as massaged (maybe kale becomes less bitter when someone gives it some love, who knows!). It needed a bit more flavor, some sort of vinegar or something to really kick it up a notch, but no complaints otherwise. The portion-size was really good.
For the kids, they both enjoyed their dishes. I won't comment much on bacon and eggs, other than they looked and smelled good and tortured my wife and I. The banana nut bread french toast was phenomenal. It came with a banana that was carmelized and despite neither kid liking it, it was DELICIOUS. Once we have a little less restrictions on the things we can eat... like nuts and seeds, I am coming back directly for this dish.
All in all, it's a solid 4.5 out of 5. We will come back when in the area, when we can enjoy more of the menu options.
