17 Remarkable Coffee Bars to Discover in Orange County

"As a rule, employees at ZebraHouse are hired based on their personalities and not on their skillsets. This results in a corresponding and palpable air of confident coolness. Try the breakfast sandwiches and the blended coffees, or discover the permanent “hidden” menu — all of which are easily attained via drive-thru or walk-up service." - Jordan Morosco

Such a cool little spot with great coffee and food. The tacos were amazing. Decor is a 10/10. I grew up in San Clemente and it's so cool coming back and seeing places like this. Lots of different seating and also great accessibility with a built in ramp.

Zebra House Coffee was a pit stop on a road trip to San Diego. We ordered the banana chocolate chip muffin (vegan & gf), an iced soy latte, and the PB banana protein shake. In total these three items set us back $24 + tip (and alternative milk costs extra, boo). Muffin: 4/5 - pretty decent muffin. Extra points for being warm and having lots of chocolate chips! Not the best ever and I can make better at home but a good treat on the road. Iced soy latte: 2/5 - strange after taste that kept getting worse as I drank it, couldn't even finish it unfortunately (and that's really saying something). Not sure what happened there. PB banana protein shake: 4/5 - the shake is made with almond milk, banana, peanut butter powder, and Organic Protein plant-based protein powder. It has a slight cinnamon-y taste. Definitely enjoyed it but it's not worth $11. Restrooms, seating inside & out, free WiFi, and ability to order via kiosk (though I found it more helpful to order at the counter to be able to ask questions). They also have a drive through with two spots for waiting. The location is convenient as it's right off I-5 but it's also nothing special. The outside seating views are mostly of a parking lot. This spot has potential with the cozy vibes inside and outside seating, but I wouldn't return again (too many other coffee shops around to check out!).

Google
Cute spot in San Clemente with a nice selection of coffee, tea, and food items. Fun vibe with orange and black decor and funky furniture. Conveniently right off the freeway with a parking lot. Would definitely go back.

Google
Needed to get some work done and found this little place. Really cool atmosphere and good service as well. They have an option to use a ordering system instead of waiting 8n line to talk to one of the employees so if you are in a rush there's always that option. Really nice layout and they even have art for sell. Wifi is free for 2 hours with email address. This is a nice lay act place to have a drink and snack to meet up or get work done. Check it out if you get the chance

This is the perfect place to stop when driving north from San Diego. We've had a few road trips recently where we leave home early and need breakfast, hot drinks, and bathrooms around San Clemente. We were able to order for people with dairy, citrus, nut, and soy intolerances. My daughter was super excited to actually be able to order a safe muffin. They also had gluten free options.

Jade McQueen

Google
This is an institution in San Clemente and a must stop for your Morning coffee and breakfast if you are in the area. Lattes are a generous size and you will also find a nice selection of homemade muffins including gluten free options ( the lemon blueberry is delicious). Breakfast burritos are available all day. Wi-Fi is fast and free for 2 hours so you can also come and work from there. Parking is easy and shared with Ralphs and outside seating is also available. If you are in a rush, drive-thru is also an option.

While heading home, hubby and I needed a little pick-me-up before our drive. I Googled coffee cafés near our location, which was in San Clemente, and various places popped up. The one that caught my eye the most was Zebra Coffee House. I mean, the name itself is very intriguing and just made me curious. So we went for it! When we arrived, we noticed that they have a drive-thru; you know I love a good drive-thru. It’s very convenient, you don’t have to get out of the car, and it’s just easy peasy! It was already perfect! I When we went to the drive-thru, their menu is pretty interesting. It had different coffee options and other beverages that sounded really fun. Additionally, they offer healthy food choices which are kind of hard to get out of a drive-thru. We placed our order and I went with an avocado toast, and hubby went with a Hoagie. For drinks, he got his iced vanilla latte and for me, instead of getting a coffee, I decided to get this really fun drink called a lavender cloud. After we ordered, we were asked to pull up to the front to park which made sense because I know that those food items are gonna take a little while to prepare. We waited for maybe 10 minutes. My avo toast was really good and hubby's sandwich was really good. He also enjoyed his coffee. My drink had a unique taste to it. It wasn’t gross but it wasn’t good but it was still satisfying. That probably doesn’t make any sense but I did finish it and I’m glad I tried something new. if we’re ever back in San Clemente, I will definitely return and try some other unique drinks. Thank you zebra house coffee.

Google
I was really bummed when I walked in here. I dislike chain style coffee shops. Atmosphere was confusing, I didn’t know if it was a wine tasting room or a coffee shop. TV screens with the menus made me cringe, not what I’d like to see in a hometown small coffee shop. On top of that the espresso that I got with a dash of oat milk was absolutely terrible. Tasted like cigarette ashtray water. The young lady who took my order was nice…

Yelp
Okay, I was not expecting a coffee shop to deliver one of the best veggie tacos I've had in a long time, but here we are. Zebra House Coffee, you surprised me in the best way. The taco came wrapped in foil, nothing fancy, but it was loaded with goodness. Fresh corn, zucchini, radish, onion, cilantro, a little crumble of cheese--super colorful and flavorful. The tortilla had that soft, slightly chewy texture I love, not greasy, and held together really well even with all those veggies stuffed in there. It tasted fresh. Like actually-fresh, not "been-sitting-in-a-steamer-tray" fresh. You could tell they put a little love into it, which is rare for a coffee spot that could've easily just phoned it in. Also, side note: I came in for a coffee (which was also solid) but ended up leaving a taco fan. Bottom line--if you're grabbing a drink at Zebra House, do yourself a favor and order the veggie taco. You won't regret it.

Yelp
Be sure to stop by this top notch gem of a local hot spot in San Clemente!! The parking is easy and welcoming. The drive through experience is wonderful for humans and our doggies! They love the treats and might try driving there if their paws could reach the gas peddle! The best experience is inside. Beautiful decor! The warm welcome of familiar faces/staff from other local establishments was the best surprise! It's a great spot for a yummy breakfast and I highly recommend the breakfast burrito. Best in town for sure! The coffee is yummy and piping hot! Can't wait to try the lunch menu soon! I really enjoy the vibe for work and meetings. I see many people enjoy it also as they sip their favorite drinks, eat the yummy goodies, and have the inspirational atmosphere to study and get work done. I think it's great for all ages and stages of life. How many restaurants have all this?! Solitary mode to a group gatherings everyone will find their cozy spot to break bread at Zebra House! I can keep posting reasons to go and can't think of a reason to skip this gem! Sara(h?), the owner, gets a huge hug and high five from me for creating this wonderful restaurant. We love supporting them, thankful for all the times they feed our family, plus I feel the need to spread the word! Thank you Sara(?h), Zebra and staff for all you do. It's a labor of love and our family appreciates you all very much.

Yelp
Major points for being open on Easter. Massive deduction for charging $1.04 for a cup of water, for a dog. Yes, there was tax on the cup of water... For the dog. However, there were 2 cups for the flat white. That pretty much killed it for me. It seemed silly to feel that way but this was expensive, and as mentioned above, the flat white was in two cups. One of them could have been used for water. No charge. Something so small became big. On the bright side. The burrito was huge with scrambled eggs, cheese, bacon bits and, inexplicably, tater tots. In the burrito. There were plenty of eggs, cheese, and bacon bits. The tater tots were squishy, soggy and added nothing. They had a bit of a kick, which is too bad because I couldn't really eat them, as prepared. They might've been terrific on the side. Not sure why I was given chips and salsa. Came with the meal. They're fine. Not necessary but OK. Would I come back? Probably. However, almost $19 for a small flat white, a huge breakfast burrito and a cup of water for a dog is steep. Let's face it. I am stuck on the double cup for the flat white and paying for another cup, The muffins, cookies, etc. looked delicious and inviting. My flat white was perfect. Yay! That was lovely. The staff was great and apologetic for the dog cup charge. They didn't make the rules.

Yelp
Zebra coffee is my go to in San Clemente! Note for the drive-thru, they don't have an additional menu once you arrive at the ordering window; so take a photo or be sure you know what you're ordering ahead of time!

Yelp
Great place to stop for a coffee when visiting San Clemente or you're on way to Orange County or LA. The staff was very friendly. They have many food options that I will for sure try the next time I stop by. I had a chai tea which was really good! Definitely a 10/10. Easy parking too!

Yelp
It doesn't matter to me what excuse about cleanliness a place issues - it is VERY easy to let someone use a reusable cup without touching it. Many coffee shops just have a giant mug you place your reusable cup in and that's all the barista touches. I don't drink hot drinks out of the paper cups because they're lined with plastic (BPA) and they're bad for the environment. I won't come back to this coffee shop because they're not in line with my efforts to ingest less microplastics and waste less.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast since we had seen it the day prior and it was walking distance from our hotel. We walked in and it's a private big space and plenty of seating. They have a wide selection of food and drinks. I ordered a vanilla latte and a breakfast bagel sandwich with bacon and my husband ordered the protein bowl with quinoa and eggs and avocado and black beans . And a flat white coffee. Service is pretty good. My bagel sandwich was just ok it needed a sauce or spread of some kind. My husband enjoyed his dish. As far as the coffee drinks let's just say I had to go somewhere else to get me another coffee.

Gianna G.

Yelp
The place looks cool at first, but it's actually super dirty. Everything felt sticky--tables, chairs, even the floors. The bathrooms were disgusting and definitely not maintained regularly. It gave the impression that cleanliness isn't a priority here. The whole vibe felt kind of neglected and off. It's a bummer because the spot has potential, but I couldn't relax or enjoy my time with how gross everything felt.

Harleen D.

Yelp
Horrible service if i could put 0/5 stars I would. The lady in the front - Maya was taking our order and was extremely rude and unprofessional. We were waiting for over 20 minutes after we ordered simple coffee drinks and people who ordered after us got their drinks before us. When we were looking to see if our drinks were made she rudely said "what are you waiting for". Furthermore, they made the drinks wrong and showed extremely rude behavior towards us. As a person of color and our group being people of color this felt extremely targeted and made us feel really uncomfortable.
google avatar

Harnit D.

Yelp
Horrible service. Maya in the front didn't call our names and asked "what are we waiting for" when we were clearly waiting for our drinks. Messed up our order and ruined our day. Do better next time.

Luis M.

Yelp
Horrible service staff is very rude, the management Sarah is not professional at all, drinks r made wrong n just give off a rude vibe.

Yelp
I love Zebra House Coffee! Not only do they have delicious coffee, but they also have amazing food, a drive through and a super cute decor inside as well. I swear Zebra House has a little something for everyone. I personally love their iced tea, but they also have great lattes too. I also really like their muffin selection, and from what I understand, they were the original owner's family recipes. It's nice that they offer many gluten free options, and while I don't need to eat gluten free, I choose to for that delicious GF peanut butter cookie. It's so good! I also really enjoy their flatbreads, salads and sandwiches. Honestly, everything here is so yummy. I love that you have options to order ahead for pickup, drive through, or enjoy their beautiful interior or even patio. So many options. The staff are always really hard working, attentive and kind as well. I highly recommend stopping by for breakfast, a drink, sweet treat or even lunch!

Yelp
Came here based on a recommended from a friend and I am glad I did! Such a fantastic spot to grab a coffee and food! I loved the coffee and had a legendary muffin. I will definitely return!

Yelp
We needed a caffeine fix on our drive from San Diego to Los Angeles, and this place was conveniently just off the freeway. The girls working the drive thru were very friendly and helpful. I ordered a lavender cloud tea, made with a fruity black tea. The lavender and black tea were subtle, so it tasted similar to a sweet flavored milk, but I found it really refreshing. The drip coffee was a little bitter. Altogether the two drinks were just over $10, which was reasonable, and the wait wasn't long at all. Drinks 3.5, service 5 stars.
google avatar

Kristin B.

Yelp
Large Iced Vanilla Latte, fruit snacks, and chips. Coffee was good, but I would have preferred my latte be stronger coffee flavor. Chips were just packaged chips (taste as expected) but we did have to go back for a different bag because chocolate had dropped on them. Service was friendly, can place orders on iPad or at counter. Coffee came out quickly in about 3 minutes. Was clean and very unique inside and seemed like they have an abundance of offerings for food too. Would go back for convenience if in the area and for the quick friendly service.

Yelp
I couldn't believe what Amazing food and coffee and ambience and so friendly staff Reed great place to send out meditative just wonderful Malcolm Beach community everything great fabulous Go see Chloee for smiles!

Yelp
This is a popular place with a nice patio option and indoor dining. They have a nice selection of fresh treats and excellent coffee selections. The service was friendly and I look forward to visiting again.

Yelp
Fast service in the drive thru! Over night oats, peach smoothie & breakfast burrito all delish! Will be back! xo

Yelp
Very cute little place just off the freeway. There's a self ordering kiosk which is super easy to use. I ordered a latte, the coffee was good, the only thing I didn't like was I received a to go cup when I asked for a "drink here" option

Ankita B.

Yelp
If I could give this place a 0 I would. We had a horrible experience. I ordered a large but she gave me a small and then when I told her she just put milk to fill up the glass and I asked for light ice and she put so much. We felt like she was being so racist, she literally said "what are you waiting for?" She called out everyone's names but ours and then started questioning us. Her name was Maya.
google avatar

Ethan P.

Yelp
Neat little spot. Lots of tables to sit plus the drive thru makes it very convenient. It's nice that they offer a lot of customizations for their egg Sam but because of that it's kinda pricey. The iced Frankenstein was unique. Lots of caffeine while having that matcha taste. Overall a solid place to stop by

Yelp
Exceptional food and service! The breakfast burrito was perfectly proportioned and aesthetically pleasing. Thank you very much... my new favorite!!

Yelp
Great coffee, nice bagel, reasonably priced and super kind and friendly staff! You can drive-thru or chill on the patio. Good stuff.

Yelp
I will be dreaming of this place until I come back. In fact, I may plan a weekend getaway back down from The Bay Area just for a breakfast burrito from here. OMG. I consider myself a burrito connoisseur, and I understand the weight what I'm about to say holds...BEST BREAKFAST BURRITO IVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. We got it 4 times on our 6-day vacation to the OC and that's only because we didn't find it until day 2 lol all these plans to try fancy exquisite breakfast dining spots and they all went out the window as soon as we got our first order from here- and it was door dashed at that- and STILL out of this world! PLEASE don't change a thing and I will be back soon Zebra House!!!! If you want to open a location up in the Bay Area, let me know I'm down to help lol

Yelp
Such a hidden gem! Delicious food and drinks with parking. Would definitely come back here again
google avatar

Yelp
Went through the drive thru for an espresso. I did drive around 10 AM on a Saturday and there was no line. Service is nice and speedy. The espresso itself was more on the bitter side but I didn't mind.

Corrine L.

Yelp
Thank you Zebra House for catering our grad party with the most delicious breakfast burritos!! Your service and personal touch went above and beyond!!

Charles L.

Yelp
Passing by here on my way to San Diego, expect to wait 30 minutes for 2 coffees, and the lady in the front is extremely rude.
google avatar

Laura H.

Yelp
Very quaint, friendly & simply wonderful. It's businesses like this that defines "San Clemente"!

Stephanie B.

Yelp
They messed up both items on my order. Ordered an oat milk latte and saw the barista pour almond milk into the cup. When I pointed out I ordered oat milk she claimed that's what she gave me, then admitted to making an error only when I said I saw her pour almond. What if I was allergic to nuts!? Careless. They also incorrectly gave me chorizo instead of soyrizo on my breakfast burrito. As a vegetarian of over 10 years, this is super frustrating. Their bathrooms don't have a changing table so I had to go elsewhere to change my baby. C'mon...
google avatar

Promise J.

Yelp
Sweet spot and service! It has a simple drive through with art to admire while you wait for your coffee. I love their hours. They don't close too early like other coffee shops. They are open long enough for me to catch my evening pick me up. You have to try their delicious Pecan Drip coffee. It so so good and just the right amount of flavor while still getting the richness of a drip coffee experience. Thank you zebra
google avatar

Katie D.

Yelp
Great coffee spot! The best drinks, reasonably priced and quick service. They even have a drive through! I've never gotten food but love the drinks. They even have a drive through!

Melissa B.

Yelp
Kinda bizarre I just paid almost $20 for breakfast for myself and they wanted to charge me 50cents to give me hot sauce. Like who charges for hot sauce???

Amber L.

Yelp
This used to be my favorite place. They have since become a joke. I used to get the Honey Bee bagel which was delicious and came with a respectable amount of cream cheese, I could have used the cream cheese that dripped as I ate it to spread on another bagel if I wanted. My past 4 visits have been poor all around. It's like they scrape the smallest amount of cream cheese on one side of the bagel and then put the other half on top. It's a $7.00 bagel!!! Not to mention, it used to be toasted and now seems like they microwave it, it's soft and soggy. The employees are also rude and seem like they don't want to be there. This place used to be a San Clemente gem, it's now a San Clemente dud. Don't waste your money. Make your own honey bee cream cheese at home.
google avatar

Yelp
Zebra House is the place to visit when you want a great cup of coffee when visiting San Clemente. They are local and have the friendly vibe, while serving great coffee and breakfast items. I like the avocado toast and a cappuccino. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Wow first time I've been here. Their lavender tea (iced) was phenomenal, immediate 5 star review. Looks like there's a great ambience so will return to hang out sometime
google avatar

Daniel C.

Yelp
6.8/10 on the muffins I personally think the chocolate chip pumpkin was too sweet. Lemon Blueberry muffin was good 7.6/10. Customer service was good but wait time was 30-35 min wait for 1 bowl and a coffee, insane I understand this place has a lot of foot traffic, I was expecting faster service for the quality. Bad first impression.
google avatar

Diana C.

Yelp
Decided to stop by here to pick up some coffee. We got the honey rose cardamom, cold foam chai, and a bagel. I don't think it was bad, but just not good enough for me to love it. I'd love to come back and dine in to give it another chance. It is a little on the pricier side. Drive thru was quick and staff was respectful. I would say it's more of a 3.5/5 but 3 for yelp.

Warm, chill spot with smooth coffee, good music, and just the right vibe to get work done.

Yelp
I'm from the LA area and decided to come down and spend the night down in San Clemente and saw the reviews on yelp. It looked pretty good, but I didn't pay attention to the ones that didn't give good reviews. I was very much looking forward to a good cappuccino and it was a very weak cappuccino with oat milk. I wouldn't go back. And the muffins were just so so. Very very sweet. I gave it three stars because of how friendly the lady was. Sorry I can't give it more than three stars. And I feel that was generous.

Dav S.

Yelp
Food was alright. Nothing special. Coffee was the worst coffee I've ever bought and it was $8. DONT COME HERE AND ORDER ICED LATTES. They use cold brew instead of a latte shot and it makes latte sour even with carmel flavor. Worst coffee ever.

Kennedy B.

Yelp
Service was good, the lady was actually really nice when taking my order inside. I never write complaints, but I paid $8 for my iced latte to be made super bad. I wanted alternative milk, but it was whole, i paid extra for honey and cinnamon, and it was watered down. I never have that happen here. There was no ice by the end, even though i asked for iced. Dirty areas, milk was sitting out. Im a nearby resident so this is a first for me, but I couldn't finish it, barely drank it.

Sidney B.

Yelp
This is my favorite coffee/breakfast shop in town. I'm quite literally obsessed with their menu & coffee drinks. The spice chai & lavender cloud latte is addicting!! I'm here so often I made friends with such a sweet worker named Randy. Highly recommend trying this out if you are a visitor or local!!
google avatar

G B.

Yelp
Just meh. All around meh. I am not entirely sure how this rates so highly. The food is pre packaged and processed, and the coffee was cheap and syrupy. The saving grace was the gal at the register was super nice. But overall thumbs down.

Kari L.

Yelp
The kale salad was amazing. There was a diverse arrangement of flavors and textures. It was so good that I went home and tried to replicate it myself. Great service, good vibes, parking available, and nice outdoor seating. I'd definitely return.

Yelp
I didn't dry anything here, but 5 stars for their kindness. I walked in 10 minutes before closing and asked if I could kill some time here. They gave me water and said it's fine and that once they close, I could just sit outside too. Thanks zebra house coffee.

Yelp
Wanted a breakfast burrito for my birthday and headed for my new BB place in San Clemente, Mr Pete's. Unfortunately for me they were closed for the morning as they are renovating. That's cool. Headed to Zebra House as I've had a decent BB there. Ordered chorizo for me and sausage for the wife. The order came out quickly and they were certainly hot. Got them home to try out. BB's were still piping hot when I got home. The burritos come with a small bag of chips and little container of salsa. I had asked for one red and one green salsa. The chips are just not that great. I think they are Mission brand and basically crappy. Not a big deal as the breakfast burrito was what I wanted. Next time I'll just ask them to skip the chips. Salsas - The green one is very tasty and medium heat. The red one was tasteless and runny. Again, I'm here for the BB. I cut the burrito in half as it was very good size. In fact I only ended up eating 1/2 and had the other half the next morning. The chorizo breakfast burrito was good. The chorizo was very mild and not as greasy as it sometimes gets when in a burrito. One thing I noted was that there was tons of egg and cooked perfectly. The Zebra House claim to fame is they use tater tots in their BB's. I perhaps saw a tot in the second half of my burrito. Saw something that looked like a potato in the first. The wife, who had the sausage and liked it, saw part of a tot in her burrito. Not sure if they chop them up, but did not get the expected taste of a tater tot. Not a big deal, as it was tasty but that is why I gave 4 stars. Good breakfast burrito. Not the best I've had. Service was very nice and hot food came out quickly. Go. Eat Well. Have fun.
