17 Remarkable Coffee Bars to Discover in Orange County | Eater LA

"As a rule, employees at ZebraHouse are hired based on their personalities and not on their skillsets. This results in a corresponding and palpable air of confident coolness. Try the breakfast sandwiches and the blended coffees, or discover the permanent “hidden” menu — all of which are easily attained via drive-thru or walk-up service." - Jordan Morosco

Google
Very cute little place just off the freeway. There’s a self ordering kiosk which is super easy to use. I ordered a latte and it was good. The only thing I didn’t like was getting a to go cup when I asked “for here” cup

Found this place on Google with pretty decent reviews. I got a avocado toaster scramble eggs on top of it paid about $12. When I asked for water the lady said she will give it to me but she will make an exception which is kind of weird that they wouldn't give water to you. For $12 this is very basic. It's just one slice of bread. I Can think of a dozen better places than this so three stars is pretty fair.

I had such a great experience at Zebra House Coffee and Eatery! I ordered the Kalua pork bowl, and it was the perfect balance of healthy, flavorful, and filling. Every bite felt satisfying without being too heavy, and it’s definitely a dish I’d come back for. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the visit even more enjoyable. One of the coolest features of this place is their drive-through, which is super convenient if you’re on the go. On top of that, I got a morning muffin for signing up for their text program, and let me tell you—it was incredible. I’m not usually a muffin person, but this one was so delicious it might just convert me! It was moist, flavorful, and the perfect little treat. Overall, Zebra House Coffee and Eatery offers great food, a welcoming vibe, and some thoughtful extras that make the experience stand out. I’m looking forward to coming back again soon!

Google
Really, really cute coffee house with one of the best Mexican Mochas I've had in quite some time. The lady who helped us was super friendly and helpful - going out of her way to help us. They have a good variety of drink choices as well as baked goods and breakfast/brunch options to order. Their parking is a bit limited, but there is a Ralph's parking lot right next to them that we used without issue.

Google
Really cool coffee and food spot! Convenient freeway stop off, good hours, easy parking, cake pops, good dripping coffee, fried bologna sando! Delicious and interesting with crispy fried onions too!, nice pesto pasta salad, fresh and light on a Summer day! And a wee lil honeybbee bagel just for fun! Drinkz, surfboard wax, dog friendly, highly recommend this spor along the coast

Google
The coffee shop looked really promising on Google Maps, but in reality it wasn’t that good. The coffee was worse than Starbucks — I couldn’t even drink it. The bread wasn’t fresh, super dry. We waited 25 minutes for coffee and toast. Definitely not worth coming back. The only thing I liked was the self-order machine and the comfy chairs inside. But the tables and chairs outside were super dirty and sticky.

Google
Adorable place, friendly staff, great drinks and food. Egg white burrito was a light but tasty option.

Google
Zebra House Coffee was a pit stop on a road trip to San Diego. We ordered the banana chocolate chip muffin (vegan & gf), an iced soy latte, and the PB banana protein shake. In total these three items set us back $24 + tip (and alternative milk costs extra, boo). Muffin: 4/5 - pretty decent muffin. Extra points for being warm and having lots of chocolate chips! Not the best ever and I can make better at home but a good treat on the road. Iced soy latte: 2/5 - strange after taste that kept getting worse as I drank it, couldn't even finish it unfortunately (and that's really saying something). Not sure what happened there. PB banana protein shake: 4/5 - the shake is made with almond milk, banana, peanut butter powder, and Organic Protein plant-based protein powder. It has a slight cinnamon-y taste. Definitely enjoyed it but it's not worth $11. Restrooms, seating inside & out, free WiFi, and ability to order via kiosk (though I found it more helpful to order at the counter to be able to ask questions). They also have a drive through with two spots for waiting. The location is convenient as it's right off I-5 but it's also nothing special. The outside seating views are mostly of a parking lot. This spot has potential with the cozy vibes inside and outside seating, but I wouldn't return again (too many other coffee shops around to check out!).

Yelp
So far the coffees have been amazing. I appreciate that there is a drive thru & the service is friendly. This is a nod away from the beach, you can actually see the beach's horizon from their parking lot. Beautiful. Burritos are filling.
google avatar

Yelp
The coffee was ok but the star here is the breakfast burrito. It had eggs, tater tots!, cheese, and we opted for sausage. It was wrapped very nicely, compact, making it easy to eat without it bursting apart on a drive. Tater tots are a huge bonus! Delicious breakfast burrito, might try it with bacon next time. Came with a side of a few tortilla chips (maybe mission), and salsa.

Yelp
Extremely slow service, it took 40 mins for our burrito and bowl, she kept saying it would be right out but we continued to wait and wait and still nothing. We asked for vegan options and she suggested Power Bowl but it was filled with eggs. Not vegan! She was combative when we asked for a refund. The vegan breakfast burrito was really good, just not worth the wait and all other issues we had.

Yelp
Ordered a chorizo burrito earlier this week and asked for avocado didn't get any avocado, ok fine no biggie. Still charged me for it. Today I waited 30 minutes for another chorizo burrito and when I asked they said they were going to check on it (after waiting for 20 minutes) I'm pretty upset they just sent me to the wall to park and had no urgency. I come home and it's a bacon burrito. Really upset with how they just forgot. I walked in before finally getting handed my burrito and they had 2 customers sitting and 2 who were in line. I would've completely understood if they were packed but weren't. * Owner did reach out and refunded me I truly appreciate you speaking to the ladies working thank you Sara!

Yelp
I came here before a work event to grab a drink and cowork with a colleague. This place reminds me of a Panera Bread but more localized. There's a few booth seatings with complimentary 2-hour wifi. The worker I interacted with was super sweet, and was able to provide me with some popular recommendations. I ended up getting the strawberry matcha which was both very strawberry and matcha-y. It was a little bit on the sweeter side for me, but if you prefer sweet drinks, this is definitely a good choice! This coffee shop also has a drive through, and a whole food menu. I also loved that there were dedicated parking spaces so you're not driving around looking for spots.

Yelp
Okay, I was not expecting a coffee shop to deliver one of the best veggie tacos I've had in a long time, but here we are. Zebra House Coffee, you surprised me in the best way. The taco came wrapped in foil, nothing fancy, but it was loaded with goodness. Fresh corn, zucchini, radish, onion, cilantro, a little crumble of cheese--super colorful and flavorful. The tortilla had that soft, slightly chewy texture I love, not greasy, and held together really well even with all those veggies stuffed in there. It tasted fresh. Like actually-fresh, not "been-sitting-in-a-steamer-tray" fresh. You could tell they put a little love into it, which is rare for a coffee spot that could've easily just phoned it in. Also, side note: I came in for a coffee (which was also solid) but ended up leaving a taco fan. Bottom line--if you're grabbing a drink at Zebra House, do yourself a favor and order the veggie taco. You won't regret it.

Yelp
I guess thisbis is one of the popular neighborhood cafes. So cold inside... the employees have some attitude issues. Not my vibe. I wouldn't be coming back here. Good luck

Yelp
ZEBRA HOUSE COFFEE IS AMAZING!! I love all of the variety with the food options they offer, the only reason I give it a 4 stars is just cause their coffee is not the best, BUT the food is delicious and I would FOR SURE go for the food cause it's super nice being a drive through too!! my favs are the salmon sandwich YUM or the chicken fajita sandwich. Both BOMB and healthy and yummy!!
google avatar

Cathrine S.

Yelp
Zebra coffee is my go to in San Clemente! Note for the drive-thru, they don't have an additional menu once you arrive at the ordering window; so take a photo or be sure you know what you're ordering ahead of time!

Judith C.

Yelp
The absolute worst.Any place but here. The seats are as hard as rock the most uncomfortable place to sit.The music so loud and obnoxious you can't relax and enjoy your coffee or tea. Horrible music I had to leave absolutely insane atmosphere. If you enjoy Looney Tunes and overpriced food and beverage this place is for you.Nothing family friendly about this place. So many other coffee houses to enjoy who respect their customers peace and enjoyment.Never going back again. Simply obnoxious .I threw up my tea from the blaring jarring horrendous music Bad vibes

Yelp
Love this spot. I come multiple times a week for their pecan dream coffee and their breakfast tacos. Clean food and great service.

Yelp
Great place to stop for a coffee when visiting San Clemente or you're on way to Orange County or LA. The staff was very friendly. They have many food options that I will for sure try the next time I stop by. I had a chai tea which was really good! Definitely a 10/10. Easy parking too!
google avatar

Whitney F.

Yelp
The best iced chai in town! And overall very prompt services for pretty good sandwiches. I find myself craving the caprese which is simple but comes on nice, warm bread. You can call ahead and order and go through the drive through to pick up your food or you can order at the counter. The staff are always friendly and helpful if you're not sure what to order.
google avatar

Carmen A.

Yelp
The staff seemed really unorganized. I waited in the drive-through for over 20 minutes, and when I finally got my drink, they asked if it was hot or iced (even though I had clearly ordered it iced). It tasted like they just poured a hot drink over ice, super watered down and gross. I didn't bother going back in to fix it because the staff was rude and honestly made me feel uncomfortable.
google avatar

Yelp
I love Zebra House Coffee! Not only do they have delicious coffee, but they also have amazing food, a drive through and a super cute decor inside as well. I swear Zebra House has a little something for everyone. I personally love their iced tea, but they also have great lattes too. I also really like their muffin selection, and from what I understand, they were the original owner's family recipes. It's nice that they offer many gluten free options, and while I don't need to eat gluten free, I choose to for that delicious GF peanut butter cookie. It's so good! I also really enjoy their flatbreads, salads and sandwiches. Honestly, everything here is so yummy. I love that you have options to order ahead for pickup, drive through, or enjoy their beautiful interior or even patio. So many options. The staff are always really hard working, attentive and kind as well. I highly recommend stopping by for breakfast, a drink, sweet treat or even lunch!
google avatar

Jay T.

Yelp
Pretty good coffee. Their baked pastries are pretty good even though the last time I had their scones it was not fully backed. Alas, they refunded my order and gave me free another pastry.
google avatar

maggie h.

Yelp
This is the second time I've gone through the drive through and have been forgotten. Then when I finally get my bagel after going inside it's not toasted and that's all I got. Very disappointing especially since it's such a cute place.
google avatar

Samantha L.

Yelp
$9 for a medium iced vanilla latte is diabolical. I wish it was delicious, too! But it was so disappointing. Hopefully this was a one-off, but I was super bummed with my drink.
google avatar

Samantha M.

Yelp
We needed a caffeine fix on our drive from San Diego to Los Angeles, and this place was conveniently just off the freeway. The girls working the drive thru were very friendly and helpful. I ordered a lavender cloud tea, made with a fruity black tea. The lavender and black tea were subtle, so it tasted similar to a sweet flavored milk, but I found it really refreshing. The drip coffee was a little bitter. Altogether the two drinks were just over $10, which was reasonable, and the wait wasn't long at all. Drinks 3.5, service 5 stars.
google avatar

Andrea A.

Yelp
I'm so impressed by the food here. I've been a fan of their breakfast burrito for a while but today I tried their Tuscan Farro Bowl with chicken and it was SOOOOO good! I was not expecting that. My husband had the little chicken tacos and he really liked those too. They also have great salsa. Overall, great food for a coffee place!
google avatar

Bertha V.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast since we had seen it the day prior and it was walking distance from our hotel. We walked in and it's a private big space and plenty of seating. They have a wide selection of food and drinks. I ordered a vanilla latte and a breakfast bagel sandwich with bacon and my husband ordered the protein bowl with quinoa and eggs and avocado and black beans . And a flat white coffee. Service is pretty good. My bagel sandwich was just ok it needed a sauce or spread of some kind. My husband enjoyed his dish. As far as the coffee drinks let's just say I had to go somewhere else to get me another coffee.
google avatar

Rick P.

Yelp
Came here based on a recommended from a friend and I am glad I did! Such a fantastic spot to grab a coffee and food! I loved the coffee and had a legendary muffin. I will definitely return!
google avatar

Jim S.

Yelp
This is a popular place with a nice patio option and indoor dining. They have a nice selection of fresh treats and excellent coffee selections. The service was friendly and I look forward to visiting again.
google avatar

Kristin B.

Yelp
Large Iced Vanilla Latte, fruit snacks, and chips. Coffee was good, but I would have preferred my latte be stronger coffee flavor. Chips were just packaged chips (taste as expected) but we did have to go back for a different bag because chocolate had dropped on them. Service was friendly, can place orders on iPad or at counter. Coffee came out quickly in about 3 minutes. Was clean and very unique inside and seemed like they have an abundance of offerings for food too. Would go back for convenience if in the area and for the quick friendly service.

Manny O.

Yelp
We ordered a flat white and a vanilla latte, and this was the worst TASTING coffee experience. Don't waste your money here.
google avatar

Laura S.

Yelp
Major points for being open on Easter. Massive deduction for charging $1.04 for a cup of water, for a dog. Yes, there was tax on the cup of water... For the dog. However, there were 2 cups for the flat white. That pretty much killed it for me. It seemed silly to feel that way but this was expensive, and as mentioned above, the flat white was in two cups. One of them could have been used for water. No charge. Something so small became big. On the bright side. The burrito was huge with scrambled eggs, cheese, bacon bits and, inexplicably, tater tots. In the burrito. There were plenty of eggs, cheese, and bacon bits. The tater tots were squishy, soggy and added nothing. They had a bit of a kick, which is too bad because I couldn't really eat them, as prepared. They might've been terrific on the side. Not sure why I was given chips and salsa. Came with the meal. They're fine. Not necessary but OK. Would I come back? Probably. However, almost $19 for a small flat white, a huge breakfast burrito and a cup of water for a dog is steep. Let's face it. I am stuck on the double cup for the flat white and paying for another cup, The muffins, cookies, etc. looked delicious and inviting. My flat white was perfect. Yay! That was lovely. The staff was great and apologetic for the dog cup charge. They didn't make the rules.

Yelp
Very cute little place just off the freeway. There's a self ordering kiosk which is super easy to use. I ordered a latte, the coffee was good, the only thing I didn't like was I received a to go cup when I asked for a "drink here" option

Yelp
I couldn't believe what Amazing food and coffee and ambience and so friendly staff Reed great place to send out meditative just wonderful Malcolm Beach community everything great fabulous Go see Chloee for smiles!

Meeshie R.

Yelp
The breakfast food here is great! The muffins are wonderful and the refrigerated beverage section has quite a selection. Ordering early prior to arrival sometimes works and does not bc no one has picked up the phone... Some of the specialty drinks are a bit too, too sweet, but nice attempts at steering matcha concoctions away from bitter.
google avatar

Ethan P.

Yelp
Neat little spot. Lots of tables to sit plus the drive thru makes it very convenient. It's nice that they offer a lot of customizations for their egg Sam but because of that it's kinda pricey. The iced Frankenstein was unique. Lots of caffeine while having that matcha taste. Overall a solid place to stop by

Yelp
Be sure to stop by this top notch gem of a local hot spot in San Clemente!! The parking is easy and welcoming. The drive through experience is wonderful for humans and our doggies! They love the treats and might try driving there if their paws could reach the gas peddle! The best experience is inside. Beautiful decor! The warm welcome of familiar faces/staff from other local establishments was the best surprise! It's a great spot for a yummy breakfast and I highly recommend the breakfast burrito. Best in town for sure! The coffee is yummy and piping hot! Can't wait to try the lunch menu soon! I really enjoy the vibe for work and meetings. I see many people enjoy it also as they sip their favorite drinks, eat the yummy goodies, and have the inspirational atmosphere to study and get work done. I think it's great for all ages and stages of life. How many restaurants have all this?! Solitary mode to a group gatherings everyone will find their cozy spot to break bread at Zebra House! I can keep posting reasons to go and can't think of a reason to skip this gem! Sara(h?), the owner, gets a huge hug and high five from me for creating this wonderful restaurant. We love supporting them, thankful for all the times they feed our family, plus I feel the need to spread the word! Thank you Sara(?h), Zebra and staff for all you do. It's a labor of love and our family appreciates you all very much.

Yelp
The pumpkin cinnamon muffin was good but the sweet creme cold brew was not Tasted and looked more just like a bad latte

Yelp
Good Coffee, good customer service, good WiFi speed... I work remote and my usual spot wasn't working today so I tried zebra house, I thought this was going to be my new work spot until I went to get a refill on my black coffee and was told "sorry we don't give refills".... Seems pretty steep when you pay $7 for a coffee (after tip) and decide to work here for the morning. Only place in SC that doesn't refill your coffee while you sit there working. Bummer.

Allison O.

Yelp
Amazing food and coffee. The service is great too! I love the ambiance and vibe of the place as well. Docked one star because the prices are high and the matcha is so nasty
google avatar

Margaret C.

Yelp
It doesn't matter to me what excuse about cleanliness a place issues - it is VERY easy to let someone use a reusable cup without touching it. Many coffee shops just have a giant mug you place your reusable cup in and that's all the barista touches. I don't drink hot drinks out of the paper cups because they're lined with plastic (BPA) and they're bad for the environment. I won't come back to this coffee shop because they're not in line with my efforts to ingest less microplastics and waste less.
google avatar

Kimmy D.

Yelp
Such a hidden gem! Delicious food and drinks with parking. Would definitely come back here again
google avatar

Jenny L.

Yelp
Went through the drive thru for an espresso. I did drive around 10 AM on a Saturday and there was no line. Service is nice and speedy. The espresso itself was more on the bitter side but I didn't mind.

Tami K.

Yelp
Bella makes every visit to Zebra House Coffee such a joy. She's super friendly, always has a smile, and her baked goods are absolutely delicious. Her customer service is top-notch and you can tell she truly cares about every guest. Highly recommend stopping by when Bella's working!

Yelp
Ever since zebra house had a huge update and changed their menu and services the quality has gone so downhill. This used to be such a cute little place and it has turned into a corporate coffee shop with overpriced food, and drinks. The customer service has been really bad especially the older lady working in the front she is very offputting and consistently in a bad mood. The drinks were not good for being nine dollars average for a medium iced latte. I've been going here for the past 10 years, so it's super unfortunate that my last interaction has left such a bad taste in my mouth. I'm probably just be going to Starbucks from now on because the customer service there is so much better and the drinks are cheaper and taste better.

Eli G.

Yelp
The staff is suuuper rude The older Hispanic woman who works here has an awful condescending attitude The food & drinks are overpriced and not any different than any Starbucks etc
google avatar

Judy Z.

Yelp
$8 for a "large" latte? It's not even large, more like a medium. I'm sorry but not paying that much. Coffee might be decent but not worth $8.

Logan C.

Yelp
Great coffee, my wife and I stopped in before shopping next door at Ralph's. We had a frozen mocha and the pecan dream, quick service and nice staff.

Patricia P.

Yelp
We stopped on our way home from S.D. because of yelp having 4 star. Not very good.My drip coffee was like warm and watered down. Avocado Toast was o.k.My husband's egg sandwich was aweful. His flavored coffee was good.He also got a muffin, he didn't care for it ,but I liked it.The bill was $40. I got a cup of water that they charged $1.30 for .We won't ever stop there again.
google avatar

Rockie N.

Yelp
Great coffee, nice bagel, reasonably priced and super kind and friendly staff! You can drive-thru or chill on the patio. Good stuff.

Harleen D.

Yelp
Horrible service if i could put 0/5 stars I would. The lady in the front - Maya was taking our order and was extremely rude and unprofessional. We were waiting for over 20 minutes after we ordered simple coffee drinks and people who ordered after us got their drinks before us. When we were looking to see if our drinks were made she rudely said "what are you waiting for". Furthermore, they made the drinks wrong and showed extremely rude behavior towards us. As a person of color and our group being people of color this felt extremely targeted and made us feel really uncomfortable.
google avatar

Harnit D.

Yelp
Horrible service. Maya in the front didn't call our names and asked "what are we waiting for" when we were clearly waiting for our drinks. Messed up our order and ruined our day. Do better next time.

Yelp
While heading home, hubby and I needed a little pick-me-up before our drive. I Googled coffee cafés near our location, which was in San Clemente, and various places popped up. The one that caught my eye the most was Zebra Coffee House. I mean, the name itself is very intriguing and just made me curious. So we went for it! When we arrived, we noticed that they have a drive-thru; you know I love a good drive-thru. It's very convenient, you don't have to get out of the car, and it's just easy peasy! It was already perfect! I When we went to the drive-thru, their menu is pretty interesting. It had different coffee options and other beverages that sounded really fun. Additionally, they offer healthy food choices which are kind of hard to get out of a drive-thru. We placed our order and I went with an avocado toast, and hubby went with a Hoagie. For drinks, he got his iced vanilla latte and for me, instead of getting a coffee, I decided to get this really fun drink called a lavender cloud. After we ordered, we were asked to pull up to the front to park which made sense because I know that those food items are gonna take a little while to prepare. We waited for maybe 10 minutes. My avo toast was really good and hubby's sandwich was really good. He also enjoyed his coffee. My drink had a unique taste to it. It wasn't gross but it wasn't good but it was still satisfying. That probably doesn't make any sense but I did finish it and I'm glad I tried something new. if we're ever back in San Clemente, I will definitely return and try some other unique drinks. Thank you zebra house coffee.

Yelp
I will be dreaming of this place until I come back. In fact, I may plan a weekend getaway back down from The Bay Area just for a breakfast burrito from here. OMG. I consider myself a burrito connoisseur, and I understand the weight what I'm about to say holds...BEST BREAKFAST BURRITO IVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. We got it 4 times on our 6-day vacation to the OC and that's only because we didn't find it until day 2 lol all these plans to try fancy exquisite breakfast dining spots and they all went out the window as soon as we got our first order from here- and it was door dashed at that- and STILL out of this world! PLEASE don't change a thing and I will be back soon Zebra House!!!! If you want to open a location up in the Bay Area, let me know I'm down to help lol
