If you're looking for a cozy, comfortable, and warm environment to have delicious coffee and filling food, look no further! Zed's Cafe is the only place I've found which perfectly blends a relaxing ambiance fueled by the soft jazz playing in the restaurant, excellent service, and affordable prices all in one. Not to mention that you will always be greeted with a smile by the owner. Absolutely visit if you find yourself near Georgia Ave!

What an amazing coffee shop!! When I say that i love " coffee shop " this is what I mean! I've been to so many coffees around the world, japan, france... and Zed's cafe is definitely what I am waiting for from an American coffee shop 🥰 The food is super good and made with love the personal is so lovely too! I love the few interactions I had there :) Beware tho, like a real coffee place service is not really fast so come only if you're here to chill and spend your time slowly I'll be back again!

Google
Definitely a hidden gem. Found this café looking for a breakfast spot. The gentleman behind the counter was kind and patient as we figured out what we wanted. I had the smoked salmon sandwich which came with chips and a salad and a latte. The sandwich, salad, and coffee were delicious even if not a typical breakfast combo. Everything we ordered was made to order but the wait time was respectable and gives time to enjoy the eclectic decor. Would absolutely go back again.

Google
I loved the decor and how it felt like someone's kitchen. It's surly a great place to have cup of coffee anytime of the day. They also have a nice breakfast selection; the smoked salmon sandwich that I had was pretty good. The coffee was too much on the milky side for me but otherwise good stuff.

Love this cute place! Very cozy vibe and delicious food. I highly recommend the omelets and croissants. Very friendly staff, too!

Google
I love this little place. I really do. Prices are reasonable (americano for $2.50!) and its just so stinking adorable. The only thing is I've come by several times when it was supposed to be open but wasn't.

Google
Cute place! Antique shop meet cafe. The cashier was friendly. There was some relaxing music playing in the background - it has the potential to be a great place to sit and read a book/magazine. I only purchased a cup of tea and while it was tasty, $3.45 for a tea bag and some hot water seems a bit excessive.

I love this cafe, I come here for the food and atmosphere. It has a cute quirky vibe to it. I would suggest coming here in the early morning durning a weekday otherwise there will be a line. The coffee is good but the food out shines it.

Yelp
What a find! A little gem in Silver Spring! Soothing jazz music playing, super nice service, delicious food beautifully presented, great latte. I can't wait to come back! I had the Southern Omelette. Served with small salad with wonderful homemade dressing and a small toasted croissant. Garnish of sliced strawberry and lemon. Delicious!

Yelp
I walked in and was greeted with the biggest smile! The barista took my order, and I sat down to wait. The shop is very cozy; it felt like I was at my aunt's house. I received my order pretty quickly, and it was decent--nothing to write home about, but I really enjoyed the service. I would definitely stop by again just to chat with the barista!

Yelp
I needed a cup of caffeine bad..long days call for plenty of coffee. I'm all for a local coffee shop and since my meter was paid I had time today. Some days I'm fairly social and others I barely say a word....today I had time to be social lol. I walked into Zeds and said I need a pick me up...20 min later I learned the barista lives in my neighborhood...I'm about an hour away from home looking to get a quick fix and just decided to stop..the place has a vibe look...great for a quick meeting with friends or a kick back by yourself. This part of silver spring is pretty busy at night..we talked for a good 20 min on menu items and coffee experiences...I ultimately settled for a classic red eye...I drink my coffee black now and had no problem with this one. Plenty of seating, ample complimentary toppings, and friendly service are all a part of Zeds...I have yet to experience the after hour experience but I'm open for it...give this local shop a try for yourself

Yelp
Tried here to work for a few hours this week. It's so cute in the pictures, I've always wanted to try it. We had neighbors getting construction this week so I worked there Wednesday morning for some peace. The menu is small, but mighty, the service is iffy, and the pastries are store bought and stale. The front of house guy who brings the food and prepared the drinks is awesome, accommodating, and polite. I ordered egg and cheese on croissant, which came with salad and fruit. I also got my standard americano with room for cream. The food was well made, the perfect temperature and had just right seasoning levels. The americano was a bit cold so I figure he'd let it set while the food was being made to run them together. I had asked for cream, it was forgotten, they don't have any Splenda, only sweet n low, and their teaspoons are tablespoons, but the food was good. I also ordered a muffin later just to see what their pastries were about. It had clearly been in the pastry case for more than 3 days. It was REVOLTINGLY stale. I returned and advised and he offered a "fresh one" - from the fridge, in plastic, from a bakery in NEW JERSEY. They'd be better off selling Costco muffins. That muffin was HORRIBLE. Sickeningly sweet, 7 blueberries that were clearly rehydrated in the batter, and tasted like oil and preservatives. Sad. However, I came to work! There were two tables there when I arrived, they left within 15/20 minutes. The bathroom was not clean AT ALL - toilet bowl was gross and it was 10:00 am and they were out of soap and toilet paper. Ewwwww. I pray there was a hand washing sink in the kitchen. Also, the cook or whomever was in the back was watching something on tv, yelling in Spanish loudly, and generally making a racket. This did not make for an easy or enjoyable working environment. The layout is lovely, the chairs are comfy, the tables are just the right size for individuals or small groups (read 2 people) so the vibe is work/co-work, but then the dude is yelling in the kitchen!!! The other thing is, there was NOBODY in the place but me and one other dude who'd long since eaten, and the tables from the other people hadn't been wiped. They were bussed, but not wiped. The floor wasn't swept. It was just a general aura of idgaf but that's young workers in 2023 I guess. The concept is good, but the execution is struggling. I want to hope it's a bad day but who knows. I would try again if I was in the area but would definitely not go out of my way given the parking plus the issues above. Okay, not Great.

Yelp
Zed's is a great place for coffee. My wife and I went there five years ago before we got together as a couple. In fact she turned me into coffee drinker after taking me there. We hope to go back soon as it is a very cozy and friendly place with great staff to have a cup of coffee. They temporarily closed due to staffing but we are glad they reopened so we definitely need to go back.

Jacque R.

Yelp
Great and quaint place. I ate and drank everything before I could take a picture. Service was AWESOME! . If ever in Silver Springs again this is a definite stop.

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Loved our visit to Zed's! Great coffee drinks, friendly service. Terrific back courtyard away from Georgia Ave, sheltered from the noise. Fun, funky atmosphere. Easy on street parking around the corner.

M G.

Yelp
I've walked by Zed's dozens of time but this morning a Yelp'd a breakfast spot and it came up so I tried it! It's such a cute homie spot. The customer service and food are awesome. Mickey recommended the southern omelet!! It was a great choice! Egg, cheese, spinach, tomato and bacon on a toasted croissant! it was delish!! Zed's is now officially a part of my neighborhood spots!!

Anye S.

Yelp
Cute place that was surprisingly quiet at 10am on a Sunday. The iced lattes were large and delicious. The breakfast sandwich is a two person meal; croissant with omelette on it, salad (fresh greens, tomato and red onion with balsamic vinegar), potato chips and fruit. I am so glad a patron warned us how big it was because if we had ordered two it would have been way too much. Really good though. The ambience is grandma's living room / antique shop rather than hip. They didn't have music blaring so I listened to my own with headphones. They have both comfy and table seating, more of the latter. Staff was friendly; service wasn't super fast but worth the wait. It got busier closer to noon.

Rakhmel R.

Yelp
Closed when help says open. This is the second time that I've walked to this cafe and turned around.

Paul H.

Yelp
Very homey and cozy. Not the best coffee around, but the atmosphere makes up for it. In the right weather, the back patio is very nice as well

Daniel E.

Yelp
Friendly, funky neighborhood coffee shop with great coffee. Local favorite! Like your own living room!

Sarah B.

Yelp
I enjoyed my coffee here. Very small and quaint area. The antique look makes you feel at home. The service was good and the workers were kind. My stars are low because after I ordered my coffee, I turn around and see something moving under a chair. It was a small mouse and startled me. I just decided to drink outside instead. So maybe a health/safety check or mouse traps soon!

Yelp
Chill spot to work! I'm always on the lookout for a cozy coffee shop to work from home, write on my laptop or just to enjoy a nice latte. The environment feels like a mashup between cozy thrift store furniture finds and some DIY projects. I chose to sit at one of the stools at the rugged countertop made of a couple raw 2x4s. Stools were a bit too tall for the low countertop for long hours of laptop work (what I was trying to do that day) but there were plenty of other normal table/seat options which were already taken. I got a cappuccino with almond/oat milk. They have all the standard non-dairy options. Barista was kind enough to bring it to me. Although it did taste a bit different from other cappuccinos I've had. Could be the beans they used or the unusual milk combo. In any case, open to coming back and trying another drink. COVID content - Staff was masked. Most of the patrons were not wearing masks because they were eating/drinking but you choose where you sit. There is also a back door to an outside patio which is more COVID friendly. Definitely will be back. Perhaps with a friend next time to catch up over a coffee (or beer/wine!)

Yelp
Zeds cafe is a hidden gem of silver spring - I almost don't want to leave this review bc I want to keep it a secret but it's gonna come out sooner or later! Please stop in and see for yourself why this place is worth your time and money! Ok Ok I'll give you just a bit: (PreCovid experience) The Breakfast Sandwich! Is a must! It was always served with a fresh side salad that was already lightly "dressed"! It was a tastebud tantalizer indeed! That is all***

Casey Lyn B.

Yelp
The setting of this cafe is very cute, cozy, diverse in color & design. It feels like a second home, or a good study spot. I just ordered black coffee with a coffee muffin. (Coffee on top wit coffee! Gotta love the coffee!) Of course both were delicious. What caught my attention is that they serve fruits along with the muffin, which was really cute and nice! I thought this place has very good reasonable prices that I would come here often, but too bad I live a bit far away. But I highly recommend this place for my coffee lovers out there. Keep in mind there is parallel parking on the street. I parked in a hotel parking lot and it wasn't expensive!

Janrose S.

Yelp
Started ordering an iced latte and caramel macchiato only to hear that the espresso machine was broken, as was the steamer...it was only one guy behind the counter, but no one else was ordering. I received a drink that didn't resemble coffee: it was a drink with two layers, the bottom layer being a shot or two of straight vanilla. The other order was a coffee with milk, and he presented the coffee with a teaspoon of milk for us to pour. At least the iced chai was decent, because it was premixed and all he had to do was pour it. Overall, service was terrible: one word responses and mean looks all throughout.

Alaric C.

Yelp
This place is so amazing ! I loved the food and the staff is so great! The setup of the place is a jazzy vibe and it's good for small talk. You have to stop by and eat here.

John G.

Yelp
Great place for a quiet conversation or work! Like breakfast eggs and salad Lattes are well made and delicious

Ashley K.

Yelp
Where do I begin, Zeds is amazing. Really one of my favorite places in the area. My go-to is the Caramel Macchiato either hot or cold, the pina colada smoothie & the breakfast dishes are great also. I'm confident it'll be easy to find something you'll enjoy on the menu. I've been going to this spot for quite a few years now & have had the pleasure of meeting Zed quite a few times; very personable guy who usually hires decent/friendly staff. The environment is extremely relaxing & the food/drinks are always consistent.

Jamel R.

Yelp
This place is a nice and relaxing place to grab a cup of coffee and a light breakfast to start the day. I ordered the Southern Omelet and it's so good that it makes you sing whenever you bite into it. The omelet is lightly seasoned comes with spinach, tomatoes, sautéed onions, and cheese on a buttered croissant. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great breakfast sandwich while getting some work done or to start the day.

Tracy W.

Yelp
it took me a minute to actually find the spot since it's easy to walk right past. Quiet, comfortable, Wi-Fi, family owned. The food had both good points, and not so great, but overall was tasty and filling, and my drink was very good. Service was polite and friendly. Worth the trip. Will probably come back and park myself to get some work done.

Blen A.

Yelp
Friendly costumer service and a nice atmosphere to study or just hangout with friends.

Yasmine B.

Yelp
On a lovely Sunday morning we found ourselves in downtown Silver Spring and looked up coffee spots. Yelp reviews led us to Zed's which is an eclectic and highly recommended coffee shop, on a busy street. This fun coffee shop has a mix match decor with a music theme. The coffee is excellent. - my money is on the cappuccino! The service is relaxed so only go there if you are not in any hurry! Side note - the bathrooms could be cleaned a little more regularly.

Natasha S.

Yelp
My first visit here was one of my earlier dates with my current girlfriend. Since that date, we've become regulars at Zed's. While there is a sentimental aspect to Zed's for us, we just absolutely love it here. Even though we've moved farther away, we still make it a point to come to Zed's as often as we can. It's our favorite working space (together and solo) as well as coffee/dessert date spot. The service is always on point. The coffee and chai is always delicious! A true MoCo gem!

Maria P.

Yelp
Just.What.I.Needed. Let's throw a few things out there, before you even start reading this review. I've been searching for a quiet, calm, and relaxing place to write. Every Starbucks I've ever been to is filled with hipsters galore. It bothers me...so very much. You can imagine my delight when I found this place. The coffee is fresh and delicious. The service is attentive and quick. Nobody bothers you. Wi-fi is automatically available, no need to enter a password. Couches are comfy. People keep to themselves. Music plays softly in the background. Everything is absolutely perfect. The omelets are deliciously fluffy and there's an array of sandwiches to choose from...or do what I do, and order another coffee :) Definitely worth checking out!!

Nicole R.

Yelp
Zed's cafe is what a coffee shop should be: - Amazing coffee - Intimate & cozy - Great casual vibe - Great, homemade treats & light bites, prepared on the spot - Great service I tried their Macchiato which was amazing. They're in downtown Silver Spring, and there's ample off-street parking within a 2-3 block radius. It's not a huge place so I could see it getting crowded on weekends. Hence, that's why I came during the afternoon when they didn't have any events going on.

Jennifer F.

Yelp
Super cute homey cafe. It really is one big living room. Good wifi, good spacing, excellent playlist, and good food.

Sharmane G.

Yelp
An eclectic hipster cafe with a very unassuming outside appearance. Plenty of seating for you to do some yelping and blogging on your laptops. The menu is a good handful select of diffent sandwiches and pastries. I got a simple lemongrass tea and tried to do some work. While they did supply WiFi, I feel a bit squished for the space. However there are some couches perfect for a friendly gathering. The soundtrack was a mix off upbeat indie music. The overall ambiance was great for doing busy work.

Sophia H.

Yelp
Came here with a friend after a long bike ride, and we split the smoked salmon salad, since we had to bike back and didn't want to eat too much. The salad was good, light and refreshing, and just filling enough to sustain us for 10 miles back home.

Ashley F.

Yelp
Still love coming to Zed's, it's a great place to have a coffee and small lunch or breakfast and just chill :)

Sheena F.

Yelp
You can find me at Zed's working on my computer a couple times a week. The coffee is amazing, food delicious and Zed and Miki are the best! I have too many great things to say. And if you want to take in fresh air, there is a patio out back. I'm almost afraid to post too many good things as I want to keep this little gem all to myself.

Julie D.

Yelp
I get the small town feel when I come to Zed's. Zed, himself, is the chef, barista, and busser and is usually the sole employee in this establishment. My orders usually take a while to arrive, but I'm usually studying and don't mind. From what I've observed, if individuals are in a hurry, most people either call their orders in advance; however, most people come to hang out and converse and don't seem to mind that it might be a few minutes for their orders to arrive. Both of the portions for the egg omelette and salmon sandwich are more than enough food for myself. The caramel macchiato is my favorite beverage here, but is a little on the sweet side. The only minor thing I would mention is that it can get humid and uncomfortably hot here during midday and seems to be a lack of air conditioner/ventilation. If you're planning on parking it here day, accordingly. Lastly, Zed is kind enough to allow running tabs for individuals who are parking it and studying all day, don't forget to pay your tabs. Zed's cafe is definitely a cozy place to study if you're tired from the typical atmosphere of other chain coffee cafes.

Ms. Lena S.

Yelp
The best coffee in Sliver Spring Maryland!!! This is a great place to relax and have your morning Joe! We just love it here...just fabulous!!!

Avid T.

Yelp
Awesome little cafe! Quiet space, with soft blues/jazz playing. Couch, love seats and tables to curl up and read a book or do some writing. Lots of green plants and unique artwork/pieces displayed all over. The egg sandwich/ croissant is delicious and comes with a mixed green salad and fruit. Ask for vinaigrette on the side because it can be too sour sometimes. Quiche is also yummy. Coffee could be better but it's not worse than Starbucks.

Dan E.

Yelp
I love supporting Zed's Cafe, especially given how dominated Silver Spring is by chains. I am now a regular and visit most Saturdays. The main draw for Zed's cafe is the relaxed vibe, perfect for studying or writing. There was one time when it was completely spoiled by some obnoxiously loud children and equally obnoxious adults, but generally it is sublime. Soft jazz music plays in the background. The interior feels like "one big living room", just as advertised outside. The food is good in my opinion, although it seems some of the other reviewers have higher standards than me. I love to get the smoked salmon sandwich (pictured). The lemon ginger tea is superb - lots of ginger. Sometimes it comes with large shaved pieces, depending who prepares it, which is great. Finally the WiFi network is fast and stable, if it was otherwise that would be a dealbreaker for me.

Hiral D.

Yelp
Hipster vibe but loved it. Eggs + croissant were good, staff was friendly, and the environment was really unique. In fact everything was unique and nothing matched but it all came together in a beautifully crafted way that impressed me. I'll be a regular!

Jackie N.

Yelp
This is my number one spot to go when I want to study. It feels very homey and the food is a plus.

Katie M.

Yelp
So glad to have finally found a good coffee/breakfast spot in Silver Spring! We were initially super pleased with the coffee, and then the food arrived and surpassed expectations. I had the omelette croissant, and BF had the smoked salmon sandwich. Both came with some delicious orange slices and strawberries as well as a salad. Noon on a Saturday wasn't very busy but the other food I saw people ordering looked just as great as ours. We'll definitely be back!

Rachel S.

Yelp
Super reasonable prices and an absolutely excellent atmosphere. Its a place where you can really settle in and get comfortable. I loved all the local art hanging up! The food was okay. I ended up getting the smoked salmon sandwich. I don't think it was anything to write home about but it arrived quickly and got the job done. Next time I want to try some of their baked goods since I hear good things about those!

Lily H.

Yelp
Looking for somewhere to pass the time while I waited for a friend, I stumbled across Zed's while walking to another, farther coffee shop that had shown up before Zed's in my search results even though there was about a mile's difference between them (to this day, I cannot figure out how to force Yelp results to be ranked in order of closeness to my current location). Anyway - I'm glad I picked Zed's because the atmosphere was just what I was looking for. It's not an especially big space, but there are plenty of seating options, including your standard chairs at a small circular table, bar seating by the front window, an armchair, and the roomy, super comfortable couch that I ended up picking. The place is filled with eclectic art and unique touches (my favorite being the small coffee table in front of the couch that is designed to look like a miniature grand piano). Even better, the end tables are stocked with plenty of reading material, including books, relatively up-to-date NYT magazines, and more. As for the coffee (I went with their standard drip coffee), it wasn't one of the best cups I've ever had, but I really appreciated that they had two choices of non-dairy milk - soy and almond - and that the lady at the counter poured me a generous amount into a cute crystal teacup so that I could take it to my seat and pour at my own discretion (it's the little things that count!). She was also exceedingly polite and offered me a free cookie, which is standard practice for their first-time customers.

Elise H.

Yelp
Coffee was great. But When our barista handed me my bagel on a plate, I asked for it to go (mind you he never asked if we were dining in or not). He actually rolled his eyes at me. There was no one else in line behind us. So much for costumer service.

MD K.

Yelp
Wonderful local coffee shop with super nice staff and tasty treats. Get your coffee here, not at Starbucks!

Jihyun K.

Yelp
Small cozy atmosphere, felt like I was inside someone's living room. Came here with friends on a Sunday morning. I was kind of hungry so I was hoping to grab coffee and a breakfast sandwich here. However they don't offer many breakfast selections and overall it seemed like their food was pretty pricey. I've decided to go with latte with skim milk. We've decided to stay so they brought our drinks out in different mugs so it really felt like I was having a cup of coffee at someone's house. When we were there it was pretty empty so it was a nice and quiet for us to read and chit chat. Honestly my latte was just okay. There was too much foam, I felt like I was just drinking foam for the first half. It definitely was not my favorite. The owner was really friendly though :) Free street parking on the weekends!

Boris S.

Yelp
THREE LECHES LAYERED CAKE (5 NOMs) More layers more fun with Three Leches Layered Cake Georgia Ave in Silver Spring, DC's suburb. We decided to stop by one of the local independent coffee shops and see what sweets they have to offer. After all cake makes for a great breakfast. They serve up several different desserts, but this beautiful thick slice just caught our eyes. We are big fans of putting large things like that in our mouth. Multiple layers of leche goodness with creamy filling and a thick caramelized layer top. Very sweet and very filling dessert that would be perfect to share with a friend, or if you hungry greedy like us eat all by yourself. Served with a side of whip cream creak because you can never have enough sweetness. Great nomnom from a great local shop that also serves up some good breakfast food and drinks. Check out more fun reviews and pictures on my blog, link in the bio.

Julia G.

Yelp
I love Zed's! It's so cozy inside, the staff are friendly, and the wifi always works pretty well too.

Juan D.

Yelp
Overhyped and overrated. Came in on a calm Saturday morning, my group of 4 were the only ones in the place except for one other customer who was already taken care of. We ordered and took our seats. 2 of the 3 drinks were created wrongly, and all 3 sandwiches were made incorrectly and had to be remade. You get the sense they really not paying attention when you are ordering. I only ordered a croissant warmed up... all 3 sandwiches came before (even the remakes). I kept reminding the food runner and they ensured me it was coming. It took 40 min for me to get a warm croissant. By the time we left, we were not the only customers with trouble tickets, one lady we overhead had to fight to get a refund after waiting for a coffee and sandwich for over 30 minutes. Do not recommend

Lauren D.

Yelp
Decour is nice, lots of seating and a few couches around a coffee table. Lots of outlets too. Service- they were very nice, but delivery left something to be desired. I gave up potatoes for Lent and asked that if the chips were potato(as opposed to corn), I could get something else with it. She said they weren't potato, then I pointed to bag where it said "potato" and she goes, "oh I thought you meant like fries. No worries. Then she offered more fruit or salad in its place. I said fruit, she gave me a huge pile of lettuce. Oh well? Food was pretty good; I got the salmon + cream cheese sandwich on focaccia bread. Fruit salad consisted of strawberries and oranges. Salad was regular mixed-leaf with tomatoes, onions, oil and vinegar. All were pretty good.
