Zeeland street market is excellent. A definite staple in the garden district. They do a ton of business at lunch and never disappoint. The Pecan smoke brisket is tender and juicy, the yams are sweet and delicious, and the cabbage tastes like grandma's kitchen. Can't say I've ever had anything I was disappointed with. Do yourself a favor and stop in.

The food was delicious. The service was good. The story of the 30+ year old restaurant was captivating! What I noticed about my order, an omelette with hash browns and toast, is that it wasn't greasy or overcooked. It was perfect in the amount, the flavor, and the preparation. Even though some of the LSU football team ordered meals before us, we still got our food in a timely manner. I'll eat here again next time I'm in BR.

Food was delicious and staff was nice. The grits were amazing. The ONLY issue was they were short-staffed so service was kinda slow and almost felt forgotten. Would still recommend them because everyone has a bad day.

This place is great. It is the epitome of home town cafe. The type of place I'd go to every day if I hadn't been on vacation when we stopped there. Food is good and made in house, not shipped in frozen and heated.

Google
I liked the restaurant atmosphere with big windows and natural light, lots of space and bright colors. A good number of menu choices. My to go lunch selections were generous in size but all seemed watered down in taste and texture (and only 1 shrimp & 1 crab piece in my gumbo). I wish I had added some seasoning salt and hot sauce. I think the cornbread and red beans with sausage were the best among the items that I tried. The greens weren't good.

I recently had breakfast at a wonderful place in Zeeland that I can highly recommend to everyone. The classic American breakfast dishes were delicious and the staff really went above and beyond to accommodate my dietary needs as a Muslim. They made sure that there was no cross-contamination with non-halal items, which was very reassuring. The breakfast menu had a great variety of options, from pancakes and eggs to bacon and sausage. I tried the spinach omelette and it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. My family had the pancakes, and they were fluffy and filling. What impressed me the most was the level of care that the staff showed towards their customers. They took the time to explain the dietary options and made sure that we felt comfortable with our choices. Overall, I would highly recommend this breakfast place to anyone looking for delicious food and excellent service. The fact that they go out of their way to accommodate Muslim dietary needs is a testament to their dedication to customer satisfaction. Thank you for a wonderful breakfast experience!

This was my first time at Zeeland Street restaurant. Saw the write up in the 225 magazine and had to check it out. For now they are only open for breakfast and lunch, their evening seatings under the name 'Beloved' are on hold. I stopped by for lunch and ordered the white beans over rice with a side order of potato salad and cornbread dressing. Everything was delicious. They also had on their daily specials a pot roast that I saw someone in nearby table enjoying thoroughly, plan on going back to try that sometime soon. The cornbread dressing had a little spicy bite to it, but still mild. The potato salad was definitely homemade tasting and creamy...yum. The white beans themselves were not heavily seasoned, but they had a wonderful flavor and were very creamy. The cornbread muffin was a nice little addition.

Google
One of the best!!!! The food was absolutely great. I didn’t have to wait long. Most of all they had apple jelly for my toast!!!!

Yelp
A famous local joint for breakfast that even made it to New York Times' top list. We came for breakfast and were disappointed by their flavorless pancakes and very simple traditional breakfast. Sully service. Nothing to write home about. Don't understand the hype. And we came with a local friend!

Yelp
My family and I had a wonderful lunch here with some friends that we met from Tennessee. This is a beautiful and very spacious restaurant. I have to admit I didn't think that the portions look like they were all that much for the price that we paid, but it was filling enough for me. I had a pot roast with mashed potatoes and the stuffing. The stuffing had a kick to it, but I also realized that it was made with some meat. It was actually really tasty. And the cake, it was more for flavor not for spice. The pot roast also was very good. I thought it might be in a little bit bigger size cup, but it was more like a very small cup of soup size bowl. While this is a sit down restaurant you do have to go in order up at the front counter first. We were a very large party of about a dozen people. But luckily there was more than enough space for us. This is a really small place. You might actually miss it the first time you drive by. The plaza that it is it is very small and the sign is not really huge. There is free parking in the lot. And really, everyone who works. There is so sweet. The food is definitely solid and I can see why it was given such a high rating in the variety of magazines that I've seen their restaurant listed in.

Yelp
Cool place to go for lunch. Lots of tasty sandwiches on the menu and other southern style specialty items. They used to do breakfast as well, not sure if they still do. The specials were red beans and rice, mama's pot roast or brisket. It was Monday so I got the red beans and rice. The meal came with a side of mustard greens, cornbread, and sweet potatoes. The price was $15 and some change which is really good considering that's how much McDonald's charges you for a burger these days and it was really a lot of food. My only issue with this dish was that rice must've been undercooked. It was very hard and crunchy. Almost messed up my dental work because I wasn't expecting it and it wasn't just one or two bites. It was the whole dish. I'm guessing this is a fluke because I can't imagine this would happen on a regular basis for as long as this place has been here so I'd probably try red beans and rice there again but from this experience, I would say it's not the best place to get red beans and rice and Baton Rouge. I'm still looking forward to my next visit since there's not many places around this area to get homestyle type cooking and such.

Yelp
Great service and a clean quaint serene little place. Lots of locals and good breakfast. Clean bathrooms and well ran little place. A neighborhood restaurant for sure

Yelp
We stayed at an AirBnb across the street and this lovely gem came recommended by our host. Breakfast was delicious and the staff were delightful! Thanks for making us feel at home during our stay!

John P.

Yelp
I stopped by to try food for first time my red beans were spoiled and my chicken was undercooked I was in the hospital for 4 days. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Yelp
This place is so cute. Towards the end of the meal, the owner came up and talked to us. This place has been here for so many years and I can't believe I hadn't heard of it before this. It's just good, hearty breakfast and I would recommend it instead of going to one of the popular chains. The food is genuinely good and fulfilling. I think the pricing is really fair too. Im super interested in trying out their lunch specials and maybe catching a live show. Couldn't recommend this place enough. Support local!

Clarencia G.

Yelp
The food is always tasty. Those that I've recommended it to are pleased. Upon me entering and the owner is visible, she speaks to me by name. I like atmosphere.

Yelp
Zeeland Street is one of those local small businesses that is well known and loved by the community! They are well known for their homestyle food and great service. Their Location on Perkins Road just north of the I-10 overpass is convenient, and has plenty of on-site parking. It's also adjacent to other great places like Garden District Coffee. There's outdoor seating that can be great when the weather is nice, or when COVID is a concern. Then there's lots of indoor seating that can accommodate groups of many sizes or individuals. The decor is local and homey. The main attraction is of course the food! When entering, look left at the menu board. There are regular specials such as roast beef and smoked brisket, then there are the rotating dishes which feature different options depending on the time of year or the chef's inclination. These feature home style veggies as sides, and will certainly be filling. They also have a dedicated breakfast crowd, which I intend to join someday...

Yelp
Food was okay, but way overpriced for a small portion and only decent quality. The staff wasn't unfriendly but not very pleasant or helpful. Food came out pretty fast. It was nice and clean inside.

Yelp
Wow I visited for the first time on Saturday around 12pm. I've never passed by this restaurant so I never knew it existed until someone suggested I try it. My family and I were pleasantly surprised. The place was clean and had plenty of seating available. The staff were all friendly. We ordered breakfast at the counter and seated ourselves. The drinks and condiments are self serve. We were called up to get our food once it was ready! Our breakfast was good! We will return to try lunch!

Yelp
Visited the new evening service named BELOVED. I can not put into words how wonderful the food and experience was. JUST GO! Yes you have had a strawberry salad...but not like this one. Yes short ribs are good...but these are exceptional. COLD SMOKED WINGS with a BLUEBERRY BBQ SAICE!!!???!!! Unreal. The flavors, food and cozy atmosphere is unmatched anywhere else in Baton Rouge. Please GO for evening dining. They are opened Wednesday though Saturday for dinner.

Yelp
Never knew about this place. Well since my wife has so many bookmarks she had this one on her scratch off list. So we dine in and let me say it was very nice. The hospitality was good. The food was so Delicious we all enjoyed our Breakfast and will definitely return to try the lunch and dinner. Did I mentioned it's black owned and in a very nice location.

Yelp
Still good as ever, visited after 5 years and they've made a lot of valuable improvements. I know the lunch was good back then , this time I had the pancake platter. Just as advertised, it's home cooking and hearty food you really can't get anywhere else. Love the family owned and local aspect. I used to go here often so it was a no brainer for me to stop by when I'm town. Hope to see Tina business continue to flourish.

Yelp
My family and I have been eating here for over 15 years and it is consistently amazing! It's a small, intimate space that's traditionally felt like a neighborhood diner. It has constantly evolved as the years go on, and it now has space for live music as well as some outdoor seating. The staff is nice, and the service is quick. Despite it's growth, it still feels like a classic counter service spot, and the food has remained the same. We usually get salads, but the daily specials and plate lunches are always amazing, especially the Crab Cakes, which are packed with fresh crab, and the Pot Roast, which tastes like a amped up version of your family recipe. Everything feels home cooked. The breakfast is also a great option for when you're looking for a place to eat in the morning. I typically get the seared tuna salad done medium well. The tuna is always fresh and the other toppings, bleu cheese, walnuts, and avocado, are great additions that contribute to the overall flavor of the dish. My favorite part is the raspberry vinaigrette--it's tangy and sweet and I always end up getting an extra container because it's so good. Overall, this place is a neighborhood classic that always delivers!

Yelp
Love Zeeland Street but the new evening restaurant Beloved is incredible!!! Had dinner with my husband and two friends last night and were blown away! Can't wait to go back!!

Deborah M.

Yelp
I visited the new Beloved venue and everything I ate was absolutely DE-LIC-OUS!!! WE enjoyed the fried green tomatoes with shrimp, the roasted fish, amazing mac and Cheese and the fried chicken wings were tender, seasoned just right and down right finger licking good!!

Ashley H.

Yelp
My first time here and I'll be back! The food was extremely tasty! I met the owner and she's super sweet! Nice setup as well!

Adam K.

Yelp
Solid breakfast and lunch option every day. They have dinner sometimes but check in advance. It seems to be seasonal now.

Yelp
Zeeland Street has been a go-to place of mine when I need a treat after a long Saturday morning run. My friends and I always find it easy to find a seat and our orders come out quickly and correctly. Perfectly cooked eggs, crisp bacon, fresh vegetables, perfectly cooked grits or potatoes..... mmmmm..... the breakfast is so great. I also recently met some friends for lunch on a day off, and I debated getting breakfast again - but I refrained. I ordered the chicken club sandwich, and again - made to perfection. Everything was so fresh and delicious! One of my friends said his burger was so tender and flavorful, and another friend got a salad with as d-worthy fresh veggies. Lots of people oof seres the red beans special that day, and most had so much that they left with boxes full for later! Another nice thing is that my friends and I were catching up after far too long apart, and we were there at closing time, not realizing it had gotten so late. We were not rushed out or made to feel like we needed to leave. As we finally grabbed our stuff to go, the staff thanked us and even talked to us about the rest of our day. We felt like regulars. You're part of the family at Zeeland! Good eats and good times!

Yelp
Chill vibe. Breakfast was simple but excellent! One of the best omelets I've ever had. Pancakes were surprisingly different but wonderful. It's definitely a staple in our community.
google avatar

Eve W.

Yelp
Great place for simple breakfast food that you can cook at home. That isn't a bad thing. Sometimes breakfast should be breakfast and not an elaborate brunch. The food was flavorful and delicious. It is a locally and black owned restaurant, which I'd important to me. The setting was clean and spacious. The staff was very nice and even gave us recommendations for activities to do after breakfast! The staff and owner definitely gave off that kind of vibe that you get at a family cookout. Pleasant people! Anyways the pancakes, sausage, and hash browns that I got were well cooked and seasoned. It wasn't overpriced and I felt like the portion size and quality was good. It's a nice place to go alone or with a few friends for a simple breakfast without the bells and whistles of a higher end brunch spot.
google avatar

Trikarri B.

Yelp
Ms. Wells is one of the nicest women I have ever met in my life. She treats her customers as though you're in her home and technically, you are. The food is great! I love the red beans and rice and the cornbread muffins but the cheeseburger and bacon and cheese hash browns are just as good! The service is friendly. You can sit wherever you like. I'm never there for mac and cheese day, and I'm always dropping in during the most random times, but I think it's a very special place and I'll be back soon.

Yelp
This restaurant is an absolute gem. From the second we walked in, the atmosphere was so open and friendly and someone greeted us immediately. They have exciting specials on the wall and the menu is stacked with yummy options. I had the St. Rose Club and all the ingredients were fresh and tasty. Great food, great people, and I can't wait to return.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
Happy with the friendly service and home cooking. Perfect grits and eggs and made me a to go care package of a sandwich and greens to my liking. The prices are reasonable. Will definitely return if occasion serves.
google avatar

Yelp
I have been dying to try this place! Recently I made it in and had to come back again within a week. This is a nice neighborhood spot selling both breakfast and lunch. The first visit here I had the breakfast plate with eggs, grits or hashbrowns, and the choice to add bacon...which of course I took...because, bacon. It was very good and made hot and fresh to order. The second time I had the Mama's pot roast. Now this was tasty! It truly tasted like someone's mama's pot roast. For sides I had Mac and cheese and red beans. For some reason, they didn't include rice with my red beans. Not sure if this is standard bc it was a side or just a simple mistake. I truly enjoy even the atmosphere of this restaurant. The majority of the searing are booths which I just think is so cool! Makes for a much more intimate dining experience. Can't wait to come back and Tru more lunch specials!

Yelp
This place is like a whole in a wall! I stop here for lunch with my daughter since we were in the area. I order pot roast and grill cheese for us to eat. Everything was good ! My owner was so sweet ! when you first come in the door and you never been there. Customer will say best place to get a meal! Definitely will come back to eat fried chicken and try out their brunch!
google avatar

Yelp
Breakfast, lunch or brunch... whatever that may be you are craving, fulfill it here! This is a cute, neighborhood spot (Garden District area) that has offers plenty of breakfast goodies and lunchtime specialties. I came for breakfast, but noticed all their daily lunch specials, too (will need to be back for those, especially fried chicken day: Wednesday). You order & pay at the counter... lady there was so sweet and went over all with me after I told her it was my first time there. If you are eating-in, have a seat after you pay & order. Coffee & drinks are self-serve. The restaurant looks like it has been re-done because there are some modern touches... super spacious, too! Great for a breakfast or lunch group. Since I was by myself, I took my order to go (didn't feel like eating alone that day). It took them about 15-20 minutes to get my order ready (not a bad wait time). When I got home, I was ready to dive-in to the pancakes, bacon, eggs & hash browns. I took bites of everything. The pancakes were not that golden color with a crispy touch (that I love), but they had that nice buttermilk flavor. Bacon was nothing exciting either... wish it could have been a touch crispier. Eggs were crambled and were also okay. The hash browns were large chunks of potato and also were okay. The meal was $10.99 and definitely a lot of food for me, so I saved a bunch for my daughter to have for breakfast the next day. Will I be back? Of course! They have so many awesome lunch specials that I'd love to try!

Shanté R.

Yelp
I came here today for a quick lunch. I ordered the Monday special of red beans and rice and cornbread! It was everything I needed this afternoon and more. The beans were cooked perfectly and very flavorful as well the accompanying cornbread! I wanted the meal to go so that I could eat back at the office and it didn't even make it out of the parking lot! I definitely recommend the Zeeland Street red beans and rice special for anyone looking to fulfill a Louisiana Monday tradition as well as their belly!
google avatar

Yelp
Great neighborhood restaurant. LaTonya Wells adds a personal touch to her restaurant Zeeland Street. We had Sunday Brunch- ABC omelet and Eggs Benedict. Homemade biscuits and hollandaise. Real grits. Good coffee, good people- relaxing atmosphere. Enjoy.

Douglas K.

Yelp
Food is average. Quick service. Nice atmosphere and local business worth supporting. One thing they could do to improve is clean the tables better. They have been sticky the last times we have been there. We saw one table get big sheets of paper put on it (maybe regular customers) so try requesting that if needed. Recommend the Pericles poboy.
google avatar

Nicole D.

Yelp
This is the perfect spot for after a run at LSU lakes or nearby... I never have a wait and the banana pancakes are to die for!!!
google avatar

Teresa W.

Yelp
You order at the counter but don't worry that's the only thing that's like a fast food place. They use real plates, silverware, coffee mugs & real glasses. I wish they had waitresses but the food is Amazing ! It's extremely hard to find a place that actually knows how to cook eggs perfectly but they do here. We had a mama's breakfast with eggs over hard, toast & Hashbrowns with a side of bacon and the Zeeland slam with eggs over medium, grits, bacon and two pancakes. The eggs on both orders were each cooked perfectly. The hash browned potatoes were delicious as well as the grits, the bacon could of been cooked better it was limp but had a good flavor. The coffee is RiverRoad brand which is beyond great. The orange juice was bottled but it was a great quality brand they also have fountain soft drinks and iced tea sweet & plain and fresh lemon slices I will be back for sure the food was awesome I can't wait to try them for lunch. Open 7am - 2pm breakfast & lunch only

Yelp
Great take on up-classed plate lunches. The trendy area of Baton Rouge with a cool, modern, clean atmosphere. The pecan smoked brisket is to die for! So so good. Perfect southern sides of sweet potatoes and greens to go with!
google avatar

Kyle W.

Yelp
Simple and plain, good home cooked food at a fair price. You never leave hungry and the people are great! I don't know who owns the restaurant, but keep doing what you are doing!
google avatar

Cody E.

Yelp
I liked 4 of the 5 things on my plate and everything else looked good so I'm sure I'll be back. Pecan smoked brisket- really good and tender. It didn't need any BBQ sauce but I tried some and it was good too. Cornbread dressing- really moist and flavorful, I really liked it. Mac and cheese- it was good. Nothing crazy or special about it, just good Mac and cheese. Cornbread- it wasn't too dry, and I loaded it up with butter and sipped up gravy with it. Sweet potatoes- they just weren't very sweet. I like them to have a ton of brown sugar and these were just kind of bland for my taste. We went right before noon and got our food within 5 minutes of ordering.

DoggBag L.

Yelp
Zeeland Street Market is a lively lunch spot - make sure you order no later than 1:30, since they do close up at 2pm! (They serve breakfast, but go for lunch if you go.) I always get the pot roast, and I always leave saying I'm not going to get it again, because it's WAY too salty. This time I really mean it - that pot roast is too good to over salt it to such an extreme. I've heard great things about the pecan smoked brisket at Zeeland, though! Next time I'll be ordering that. I'll keep y'all posted.

SA S.

Yelp
Great spot for a good filling breakfast, good vibes, Good atmosphere. Will was very helpful in getting first time visitors acclimated to the flow of the restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great place if you need a quick, home cooked tasting meal! My friend and I went here today for lunch. I got the crawfish etouffee which reminded of me of my grandmother's so I loved that! We sat on the patio outside, but still got good service from inside and the outside area is so cute! I wish the prices were a little lower. Also, if they could work on the display of the food a bit, that would really set them apart just a little bit more! Would definitely come back--need to try the breakfast next time!
google avatar

Cas T.

Yelp
Never again. This place advertises breakfast, BRUNCH, and lunch, so I'm not understanding how at 11:00 they do not offer any brunch. I'm almost certain those mash potatoes are 50/50 instant and real. The pot roast was dryer than a powder house and completely lacking any seasoning- it felt like wet construction paper. The yams were good. Jesus, can someone fix the soda machine? It's quite disgusting and you can SEE the mold and mildew practically mating. I can honestly say that I will never return to this place- unless there's an apocalypse and this is my only option. Jeez, I almost for those nasty utensils and elementary school plates
google avatar

Daniel G.

Yelp
I didn't travel from Texas just to eat a burger or Mexican food in Baton Rogue, LA! You come here you find that local eatery and enjoy a good meal. I knew this place was worth it when I couldn't find a parking spot. I was craving for some soul/southern food and this place does not disappoint. The menu was varied with different meals such as poor boys and select fresh seafood. I ended up with the Red Beans and Rice platter with sausage added to it for an extra $2. The plate came with mustard greens, mashed sweet potato, and corn bread. With sweet tea to drink my meal came to about $14. Well worth the price. The atmosphere was very relaxed and it felt like I was at home. The people, both serving and eating were very nice and pleasant. If you are ever in Baton Rogue and craving some local foods, this is the place to go.

Yelp
Food: delicious, authentic, and affordable. Staff: friendly and dynamic. Atmosphere/Decor: relaxing and unique.
google avatar

Sean F.

Yelp
Horrible gumbo. Gumbo was straight from a can, with some smoked sausage slices thrown in. First time I've ever had yellow gumbo with carrot tidbits in it. Poboy was small, bland, and overpriced.

jeremy s.

Yelp
I come here every so often when i have time. They great service & the food is great. It is wonderful to see an African-American having great success
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
Usually a good lunch but I've come to realize that it's expensive for no reason at all. My order was misplaced and was not very good. A tiny piece of meatloaf that had no flavor. The corn was straight out of a can. Looks like they have also been refilling the Heinz ketchup bottles because the labels are worn out. I guess I expected more from a local business.

Hayden L.

Yelp
Went in for a late lunch with some friends and this was one of the only places open when a lot of businesses and restaurants had closed from COVID. The staff was so appreciative of us coming by and could not have created a better welcome for us. With so many options for food, the hostess had no problem helping us figure out what we all wanted to order-gave us her opinions, told us what some popular options were, and we were all happy worth our decisions. Food well cooked and well seasoned. Was served to us before we even finished getting our drinks from the fountain machine, and was delicious-sides and all! We didn't realize that they closed just 30 minutes after we had gotten there but us staying while they began to clean up was no problem with them so naturally it was no problem for us. Such a great friendly and local place that I think is quite underrated!
google avatar

Cat S.

Yelp
We went to the Zeeland Street Cafe and 2 employees were not wearing masks! And they have a big sign on their door that says NO MASK NO SERVICE. I have a hard time being supportive when businesses do not take this pandemic seriously!! I want whomever is making my food to have a mask on!! Quite a few restaurants are having to close because someone tests positive for Covid19! So discouraging!
google avatar

Moriah M.

Yelp
Every time I come here I am blown away by how good the food is, and the owners are the sweetest people in the world. Try the brisket!!!
google avatar

Renee A.

Yelp
It's a pretty good spot for brunch. The mimosa was really good. We both had the crab cakes Benedict. The English muffin was a bit dry and the crab cakes were heavily fried. Overall it was decent. The grits and hash browns were good. Not writing home about them but not bad. The maple bacon pancake was good too! Worth a stop if you're in the area.
