This place is flying WAY under radar but I stumbled in one early afternoon after fleeing the madness that is Harrods. Located on a small, blissfully quiet street (not sure if it's technically Chelsea or Knightsbridge but regardless, Kensington, aka bring loads of cash), the sight of an inviting couch just inside and a tastefully decorated room called out to me. I only meant to stay for one drink, but the staff was so friendly that I ordered the first of many mimosas and a "tricolore" salad (tomato, mozzarella and avocado). The salad was great-fresh and tons of cherry tomatoes- and the mimosas were delicious. Refreshed, I was ready to face the world again but then one of the bartenders (very, very good-looking) asked if I was going to stay for "the tennis."
I had almost forgotten. Murray fever had swept the UK and Andy Murray was set to battle it out with Roger Federer during the Wimbledon Finals later that afternoon. I followed him to the back as he wheeled out a giant flat screen TV, and joined the gathering crowd of mostly Murray fans. Eight, very emotional hours later, and after indulging in countless alcoholic beverages, plus about 5 cups of tea and a giant slice of tiramisu, I staggered out into the fading evening light.
Yes, I do love tennis. But having been lucky enough to watch Serena kill it live on Centre Court earlier that week, and feeling significantly less invested in Federer v. Murray, I don't think I would have stayed if the atmosphere at Zefi had been any less wonderful. Despite the tensions (at least four very vocal Federer fans in the packed house despite most people rooting for the obvious hometown favorite), and despite the champagne and drinks that never stopped flowing, everyone was super polite, and the vibe remained relaxed and fun. Maybe it's because it was just tennis? Would be interesting to see if the vibe would have changed if we were watching the Eurocup final instead. Either way, it was a very civilized and beautiful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Definitely recommend.
P.S. The people... overwhelmingly female, with an emphasis on modelesque European: skinny jeans, expensive accessories, and made for tv blow-outs. The staff: gorgeous across the board. It will probably not make a difference in the service or in your overall experience, but word to the wise...do yourself a favor, come correct and leave the frumpy at home. You're welcome.
