17 Cozy Fireplaces in San Francisco Restaurants and Bars

"With a blazing fireplace and beers on tap, it’s hard to think of a reason not to go to Zeki’s. The Nob Hill neighborhood bar doesn’t serve food, but they’ll more than make up for it in drinks." - Paolo Bicchieri, Dianne de Guzman

We hosted our wedding after-party here and couldn’t have been happier with the experience. The bartenders were incredibly kind, quick, and made excellent drinks all night. The atmosphere was relaxed and fun—just the right size and location for our group—and felt like the perfect extension of the celebration. Nick was great to work with from the beginning: flexible, responsive, and made planning easy. Would definitely recommend this spot for any private event or for a drink on the town!

Zeki’s is a well-liked local bar with great beer and cocktails. It’s located in a historic building that used to house the horses for the nearby California cable cars. Cozy space with a fireplace, booths, a few good TVs for sports watching, and more private booths against the windows. Good crowd. Trivia on Wednesdays at 8:00 PM.

Google
The coziest bar ever! There are two fireplaces going and the seats by the window give it the best vibe. Had a couple of drinks from their holiday menu. They’ve got some fun cocktails. We ended the night with some shots of fernet.

October 2024: Stopped by on a Sunday evening for a beer and watched the world series. Beer options were pretty good. There was a Fieldwork pulp and a few Russian River brewing options including Pliney the Elder. The bar doesn't have food so they let you bring in food. We brought in sandwiches and there were no issues. Nice place to relax and watch a game.

I tried one of their signature cocktails, the Flowerbomb. It’s a delightful blend of tequila blanco, crème de violette, agave, lime, and lavender sugar. The flavors were well balanced, and the drink was both refreshing and tasty. The cozy ambiance of the bar added to the overall experience.

Needed to kill time before a show at the Masonic. Popped by here for a drink. We were able to snag a seat at the bar as it was crowded on a Tuesday night. Super cozy with a couple of fireplaces and seats. They have a nice selection of cocktails including holiday themed ones.

Went for trivia night and had so much fun! Every Wednesday night!

My favorite bar in the U.S. Great environment, great bartenders, great community… love this bar 💚

Yelp
- Chocolate rain (Christmas drink) was strong and yummy before a show at the Masonic. - Great place to pregame because the drinks inside the Masonic are just as expensive and not as good - bartender was really sweet

Yelp
Maybe an off night but the cocktails were really bad. The vibe of the bar was nice but my friend and I barely touched the drinks we ordered

Yelp
I wish I found out about this bar sooner! It's off to the side and not on a crowded street full of restaurants and/or bars so I did it know about it until I found it on Yelp. It's a different vibe from other bars around the area. It's very cozy with its style of furniture and the fireplace inside! I also love their specialty cocktails. The juices added in some of the drinks are made fresh! The drinks were really good so can't go wrong with ordering something that has ingredients you like. Feel free to ask the bartender what they recommend as well! I will definitely be coming back to try out more of their cocktails!

Yelp
Came here last night for their weekly trivia and had a great time. If you're interested in their Wednesday trivia make sure to get there early if you want a table - starts at 8pm, recommend getting there around 7. Drinks are reasonable, fun vibes and appropriately crowded. They are also dog friendly, I don't think I've ever been to a dog-friendly bar - there were multiple dogs, there wasn't just one that got snuck in haha

Yelp
The sis and I came across this bar... b/c we were literally looking for a nightcap post our Thanh Long dinner and it so happened to be that we were at a stop and found parking right in front of the bar... in SF, that's a blessing in disguise! It was a Thursday night so it wasn't as packed and plus it's still COVID so there's that. We sat at the bar... forgot what I ordered (it was a long night of drinking!) but I remembered it to be good, so I think we ended up having 2 drinks here. The bartender was friendly. Definitely a neighborhood bar!

Yelp
do not come here if you are a woman and want to get served. I was completely ignored and overlooked by the sole bartender time and time again only to see her serve and flirt with men before me. it is sad because this is a very sweet neighborhood bar but the staff is less than helpful and welcoming to women.

Yelp
I'm not sure why the tall white guy with a backwards hat bartender had a stick up *you know where* but he was very rude when I asked about a TV playing a game that no one was watching. I asked the couple near me at the bar (they were the only ones near this TV) and they confirmed they weren't watching. The bartender (pointed to another table) where the Warriors game was on and mentioned "get out of here with that shit" when after I asked the couple near me. It was March Madness but again, no one was watching this college game. To management/ownership, I'm not sure why you employ this rude bartender, but he didn't charge me for the drink after I asked to close out for his rude comments. I asked about it after he flipped my card on the bar without the machine for a signature. I offered to pay but he refused and said it was "on the bar". It's a sports bar. His job is to serve the drinks, change the channel to the game someone wants to see. He just cost you a previously loyal customer. I would recommend re-evaluating your talent if you want to keep your customers.

Yelp
Amazing ambiance on a random Sunday night created by the good music, warm fire in the fireplace and friendly service. The perfect spot to end your night after visiting the gingerbread house at the Fairmont down the street.

Yelp
Best bartender ever, she was amazing. Great night had by all. Will definitely be back to see Lauren

Yelp
Let me preface this by saying I don't ever write Yelp reviews... I've been going to Zekis for over four years and I used to love this place! It was my favorite bar in SF to grab a drink, relax and play games, especially during the holidays, but tonight was another story. The bartender kicked us out 10 minutes prior to closing in the pouring rain while allowing four men, who supposedly "worked there," to stay in the bar. We were three kind, respectful girls, playing games at a booth and left a decent tip but she still kicked us out before closing because of "California law." The drinks were crap and the service was worse. I don't recommend this bar anymore and any woman who doesn't want to get kicked out before closing should choose another bar!

Yelp
Had a fun time at trivia night! However, it's a bit hard to get seats, unless you get there early

Yelp
The best ice water in the city. Honestly flowing like the waterfalls at Yosemite. Hands down the best!

Yelp
Nice place. I am on a date here. Has a full bar and a fireplace. The bartender was very nice.

Yelp
Hey Girl, I used to live on the corner of California & Leavenworth St. and Zeki's was the nearest bar in my hood. I reflect back and realize what a "Chad" I was sipping midday cosmos at the fireplace, but I admit it was happy fun times, albeit pretentious. Zeki's Bar almost has that "Marina" bar vibe, if you know what I mean, yet it's in the middle of Nob Hill. I'm only 12.5% blonde, but I do have my moments, as I once again double fist cosmos at the fireplace. Deja vu all over again. I'd recommend Zeki's to all you young and semi-young hipsters and upcoming urban movers and shakers. I'm a tad on the downhill of young, so I'll leave my warm stool at Zeki's for you. Did that, done that. Hours: 4pm-2am daily. In the end, as you can sense I have a semi-awkward relationship with Zeki's Bar. Hmm, I guess I miss the days of the jukebox, pool table, and eclectic furniture that made Zeki's truly homey. Today, it's like going on a blind date with only a Motorola pager and yesterday's checkerboard vans. Kinda like my ex-wife. Yet, a good time can be had if you don't mind the more generic vibe of today. Get the "Sadie Lady" if you think you're cute enough! Just don't forget your faux lumberjack to blend into the now crowd. Not bad, well, on my "Chad" days. Ta!

Yelp
A friend and I met here last night before the Iggy Pop concert up at the Masonic. Cool place- nice warm cozy feel. We opened a tab with the friendly female bartender and enjoyed the vibe. We came back after the show for a drink and it weirdly it felt like a whole different place. It wasn't super busy, but the evening male bartender completely ignored my friend waiting to order at the bar. After 5 min of blatant dismissal, it was clear he was blowing us off- seemed way too cool to bother with us. So we left. Like the name of Iggy's back up band, that bartender was a total Loser.

Yelp
I stopped in to this little neighborhood bar after dinner one night to meet a friend for a drink while in town visiting. I was surprised by the interior as there's a fireplace and it has a bit of a cozy cabin vibe going on. It was pretty cool, actually. I ordered a glass of wine and it was decently priced - score! It was not crowded or busy at all when I went (around 9 pm on a weekday). The bartender was prompt with my drink and polite when I asked to cash out right away. I agree with many of the other reviews - it's a nice, casual spot that feels like a bit of a reprieve from the many hipster and upscale bars in the city, yet not a dive by any means. I would definitely frequent this place a lot if I lived in the area - it seems like the perfect local spot.

Yelp
Zeki's is open! As of June 16, open at the same times, but the supply lines problems all bars are experiencing means only half a dozen beers on tap. Currently open Tuesday through Saturday. Door opens at 4 PM.

Yelp
This place is a HIDDEN GEM!!! If you live in nob hill or anywhere close it's worth the trip!! Great drinks, great vibes, and great music!!

Yelp
It's fine I guess? It's a "nicer" bar than hyde out down the street but the tradeoff is character and sort of a too young crowd, at least when it comes to getting a drink on your own. But if you were say, on a date, this would be a better option than hyde out unless the person you're on a date with is real cool. I wouldn't come out of my way to go here though.

Yelp
Adorable and cozy pub on California street! The interior reminds me of a ski lodge with rustic hardwood and eccentric wall decorations. Try to get the booth seating in the bay windows at the front as it's definitely comfortable, roomy, and offset from the rest of the bar stool seating. Happy hour offers a $1-$2 discount, so you can get their superbly priced and incredibly strong cocktails (think $9-$10) for even less. Our go-to drinks are the manhattan and the old fashioned. Noise levels are moderate so you can enjoy your drinks without having to shout at one another. Staff have consistently been incredibly friendly, attentive, and fast with orders. Overall, a great neighborhood bar to return to time and time again.

Yelp
Really like this bar. Recently brought in take out and enjoyed next to one of two cozy fireplaces in this place. Solid selection of beers and cocktails. Not cheap but about average for an SF bar. A few board games available to borrow as well. Will def go back. Solid date spot.

Yelp
Solid neighborhood bar, nothing special.

Yelp
It's a good bar to grab drinks and if you want to linger here to chit chat. They have TVs along the bar to catch the news update on sports. Their cocktails are fruity and not strong at all. Depending on your preference, I like it strong rather than on the fruity side. This bar can be one of the bars you check in, drink and check out to another for the night!

Yelp
A cozy Nob Hill bar that is great for locals in the neighborhood. Zeki's is not a place you would go out of your way to visit. My personal ranking system for bars is whether I would make a specific trip to this bar on a given night if I wasn't a local. This bar has a laid back sports vibe, as many have described. I can see myself becoming a regular here if I lived in the neighborhood. They have nice fireplaces and the crowd is friendly. That being said, I would not stop here again unless I am in the area. This bar does not cater to the young professional crowd. That can be either great or terrible depending on who you are and what you're looking for. Since I'm a young professional in the city, this bar simply does not cross my mind often as the "go-to" place. 3/5.

Yelp
If I could give it negative stars I would. I have been wanting to go to this bar for a long time as I drive by it daily. We went the other night after the Go Go's concert. We gave the bartender out credit card /open tab. We forgot to sign out that night as we were with friends and it slipped our mind. The next day we went to pick up the credit card and sign off the tab. The bartender was extremely rude to my husband and said there were no cards left behind. He asked if she could make sure as this was the last place we used it and left it behind. She said she knew there were no cards and refused to ask other staff or check. I then called our credit card company and put a hold on it. There was a Target.com charge for $170.00 that was not ours. After it was put on hold there were several other charges that were attempted but declined by Visa. One of which was a prepaid ATT phone card. We sent the bar an email regarding the charges. They called us and the card magically appeared. Of course we had to cancel the card card due to fraud. We did go and pick it up so we could cut up the card and to add insult to the entire situation they tipped themselves on the card. If you go pay cash. I hope Target has the delivery address and sends the police.

Yelp
This bar is amazing! Go to bar for panthers games on Sundays. The bartenders are super nice and there are fireplaces. I come here every other day.

Yelp
A good friend of mine threw her Apres Ski-themed birthday party here on Friday night. It was one of the best parties I've been to in a long time and I really think the new-and-improved Zeki's decor and awesome bartenders helped to make it such a great night. My friend added some of her own decorations but the glowing fireplace, lit-up Christmas tree, and wall animal wearing a scarf were perfect too. Originally the random music was played through the jukebox and not that amazing/fun to dance to. When I asked the bartender to switch to top 40 dance music for the birthday girl, he willingly complied and we started a mini make-shift super fun dance party by the fireplace. I can't wait to come back for more holiday cheer! :)

Yelp
I won't even lie: I went here because the targeted ads on facebook said it was a Lakers bar. They must have picked up on the 80,000 times I mention Lakers in my updates. A great place to watch the game if you don't want to get beat down by all the Laker haters. I had been to this bar a couple of times before but never for Lakers games. $2 miller lights for NBA playoffs games is where it's at. They play the game with the commentary over the speakers and have a large projection TV and a couple of LCD's. As a plus, they let you bring in food. They also have a pool table in the back that people tend to neglect so you can have at it.

Yelp
I was walking down California St to get some dinner and walked past Zeki's. It caught my attention because there's no signage outside at all. Nothing. That takes guts. My curiosity was peaked. On the way back from dinner, I decided I had to check it out. It's great. It's nice inside, it's not a dive. The beer selection is fantastic. I counted 16 beers on tap and I didn't recognize half of them, and I'm no beer neophyte. They also have a small wine selection and a full bar with featured cocktails. They have several large TVs throughout the bar as well. They don't serve any food, but the bartender informed me that you are welcome to bring food in. If you're in the Nob Hill area, and are craving libations, Zeki's won't disappoint.
google avatar

Peter C.

Yelp
I always enjoy going to Zeki's because it's a cool little bar, with a local neighborhood feel. This place isn't a dive bar, but it isn't snotty & super upscale. It has just the right fit in that it's a cool casual place to hang for some drinks and chat with some chill kind of people. The staff is, overall, very friendly. Special mention should go to the bouncer/doorman, Michael. He's always super jovial and upbeat and always makes me feel welcome. Zeki's is always a great time!
google avatar

Marzena D.

Yelp
Not a place I would rave about. We were slightly jet lagged and needed to stay awake so went to Zeki's which was few minutes walk from where we were staying. Bar was rather quiet- Sunday night! But had a pleasant vibe and a fire place at the back. We stayed for one drink and left. Good spot.
google avatar

Molly B.

Yelp
We just stopped here tonight after a show at Masonic Auditorium. I was happy that we could stop for a drink and not have to go to Polk Street or some loud dive in the Tenderloin. The drinks were good, reasonably priced. I was worried that the area only had bars for tourist or rich people. It felt like a friendly neighborhood bar that I did not think I would find in that neighborhood.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
Our group of 8 was able to squeeze into one of the tables right next to the door and in front of the bar. We ordered drinks pretty easily (for a Friday night, no less) and one of the bar's regulars chatted us up before calling it a night. It was pretty packed, but the atmosphere was fun and casual. The drinks were decent!
google avatar

Patricia K.

Yelp
I am just handing out the five-star yelp ratings lately, but this quaint bar in nob hill doesn't deserve any less. Zeki's is one of the few bars in san francisco that come with not just one, but two fireplaces. I somehow always find myself here on rainy, foggy nights, and by the zeki's fireplaces is exactly where I want to be. The drinks here are stiff, and the bartenders are friendly. The clientele is younger, but the tables are far apart, so you have choose your level of interaction with the rest of the patrons. If you have any issues finding this bar, its the one with all the christmas lights on it.
google avatar

Steve V.

Yelp
This is a small dive bar that seemed to be filled with neighborhood folks. There are about 6 tables but most of the people there on a Tuesday night when I came were seated at the bar. There is one pool table that is cramped in the corner. They have decent TVs with sports playing. The beers are decently priced and there is only one bar tender, she spends some of her time not behind the bar, because she does everything else in the bar, like cleaning the tables. It is one of those kinds of places. Great place if you like the quiet bar scene! There is no food.
google avatar

Manuel C.

Yelp
A warm and friendly find, conveniently next to a cable car stop, and perfect after a day shopping the vintage clothing shops in Polk Gulch. Unassuming, but nice interior. Classic wood, two fireplaces. Brynn, the bar tender was welcoming (her 1st day!), and quick with gin & tonic. There is a nice pool table. And a friendly local regular, who announces himself, like Cheer's Norm. A perfect place to watch a couple cable cars go by, observe the culture, and watch the light begin to change.
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
The owner contacted me, which I appreciated. He informed me that the bar does not have any room to refrigerate their back up kegs and that it takes about 4 hours to cool properly and that I happened to be there when all of the kegs were empty at the same time. It means a lot to me that the owner cares about his business, so I am definitely willing to try this bar out again.

Yelp
I've been to Zeki's a few times and have always liked it. It's kind of a chameleon-ish. For whatever reason when you first walk in, it almost seems like a "nicer" lounge IMO, but it really isn't (which isn't a bad thing). It's not really a dive either, but it has that kind of neighborhood/laidback vibe to it. Zeki's isn't very big, but considering the small amount of space there's more seating than you would think. It's dark, and can get hot/sweaty, but after a few drinks you get over it. I've never imbibed on anything here other than well drinks and pretty basic beer, so I can't really say much about the selection, but the prices are average & the vodka sodas aren't weak :) I don't go out in Nob Hill all that often (and I'm not sure why because I like the bars in this area), but Zeki's is definitely a great place to grab a few drinks!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for a friend's birthday party Small place Full bar Nice and Clean Fire place in the back This place have a jukebox where you can pick your songs that you want to play in the background Few tv Good among of people came to this place but everyone tends to be hanging out the bar where its most crowded

Yelp
This is my neighborhood bar. Zoe makes the best drinks and she is so sweet and awesome! Cozy atmosphere, love the fireplace. Really cool and creative cocktail menu. If you happen to get her, you're in for a treat! I didn't know what I wanted so I just told her I felt like having something refreshing but not sweet (I know I wasn't much help) and she whipped up the perfect drink for me. Thanks Zoe!!! You are the best!

Yelp
Great Wednesday night trivia. Bar tenders are also very friendly. Fun spot for drinks that is casual but not a dive.

Yelp
Zekis is like the girl at the prom that you don't notice because she is in the corner wearing her own headphones and dancing to her own music. She is wearing glasses and blending into the wall the whole night. But you notice her and decide to investigate to see what her story is. She then turns out to be the girl from she's all that and you have the night of your life. That's Zekis in a nutshell. Its hard to even pick this place out unless you are walking from Trader Joes to the Hyde Out for some reason but once you actually go inside it's a lot of fun. I think they like that they aren't well known because it keeps the crowd hype down that can hit other SF bars. You can't really put your finger on it but it feels like a locals bar and it feels like you should have known about it a long time ago. This is a drinkers bar with not a ton of fancy cocktails but all the liquor selections you could want. Not really much food to speak of either. The space if very small and narrow and while these all may seem like bad things it works really well for Zekis. There isn't even a sign on the building so you would never know the name let alone where it was but if you are looking for a great drink with some amazing music and standing with a bunch of good looking young and hip people then this is worth a stop by. Just don't tell anyone about it once you leave.
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
I pass this place all the time on the cable car and didn't even notice it was there during the day. There is no signage outside and I didn't even notice it until I walked by and saw it was a bar. I had no idea what it was called until I searched for the address. The bar is pretty small with the counter, high top bar area, and a cozy fireplace lounge area in the back. There is no food served here, only drinks. There are several small TVs at the bar as well as a larger projection screen in the corner. It is very relaxed and cozy inside. There are a good selection of craft beers on tap. Cocktails are fairly priced. I got a Hendrick's tonic and a whiskey ginger and it was under $20. What a bargain! There are board games here as well to entertain. My personal favorites are Battleship, Connect four, and mancala.

Yelp
Thanks to Zekis and Paula for a great night. Our company came here for a holiday gathering and were treated with excellent service! Paula turned out all drink requests in a timely and tasty manner. We will be back to this cozy bar again!

Yelp
I found this gem a few weeks ago. I like the atmosphere. Cute and cozy for drinks after dinner elsewhere. The cocktails are pretty bomb.
google avatar

Yelp
Great local bar in Nob Hill. Not too trendy, but not a dive. I watched Super Bowl LI here with my wife and had a nice relaxing time. Pleasant atmosphere, friendly bartenders and good service. Drinks are really strong and reasonably priced. Definitely a great place where locals gather to have a good time. I could've spent all day there watching the people and cable cars go by. Soon-to-be "classic" San Francisco bar.
google avatar

Chelsea R.

Yelp
I hosted my birthday here one year, and the bartender treated me to a free drink and wonderful hospitality throughout the night. They have a tree display during the holidays and fireplaces that contributes to a cozy, warm vibe. Their beer selection is pretty good, too.

Yelp
This is a good solid neighborhood bar with a friendly staff and even more rare, friendly regulars. This was the last stop on an epic night. As the evening went on people left the group and more people joined but I was the only person that lasted through the whole thing. After a bizarre occurrence at Rogue Ales House we were wandering around North beach looking for one more bar. I used to know about this quiet little dive bar on Broadway that served Thai food. There's a new place where I'm pretty sure it used to be and it looked like it was full of douche bags so we jumped in a cab and headed down to the tender knob. I was rooting for Whiskey thieves but I was out voted so Zeki's it was. Everyone was friendly and made us feel welcome. We were invited to play bar games and the women there didn't give us dirty looks when we said hello. This place is a little outside my normal circuit, It's an uphill walk from the TL, but I would be happy to come back someday. I only have one criticism; I wish they had a better selection of Bourbon.
google avatar

Joe C.

Yelp
Zeki's is a nice little neighborhood divey bar with a pool table. It's right on the cable car line, which is a fun way to get out of downtown after a long day. 4 stars for being a nice little neighborhood divey bar. -2 stars for putting the pool table in a corner where 60% of all shots must be taken with a short cue. Why even bother? +2 stars for having a seriously hot bartender.
