Zella's Deli & Restaurant

I want to love this place. I ate here when it was in Swannanoa and the new location is 3 minutes from my neighborhood. However, I can't give more than 3 stars because to me they are skimping on the good stuff especially the pastrami. All told I've had the pastrami 3x, Italian 2x, and chopped cheese 2x. Taste is incredible, but the most recent pastrami I got, the last few bites were just bread and mustard. Pic for reference. Needs like at least twice as much meat.

I had lunch at Zella’s today and, based on this experience, do not plan to return; which is sad because I really wanted to love this place, we need a good deli in town. However, several items we attempted to order were unavailable, including core offerings one would reasonably expect from a deli. They did not have matzo ball soup, knishes (despite signage advertising them as the daily special), or turkey. We also ordered a glass of white wine, which was served at room temperature. Additionally, one member of our party received the incorrect entrée (chicken parmesan instead of a chicken cutlet). The coleslaw was drowning in mayonnaise and mustard, rendering it inedible. The potato chips were overcooked and without seasoning. Overall, the staff appeared disengaged and not particularly attentive. Given the number of stronger options in town, I would recommend looking elsewhere for a quality sandwich.

I ordered in store today to take away to share with my partner and nephew. So nice everyone was so friendly. My partner got a vegetarian roast beef sandwich and was so impressed on how good it was! She loved the pickles and the chips as well. However I ordered a ham and cheese to enjoy with my nephew (he would take like 2 bites). and to both of our surprise.... it was spicy. Unsure why the ham itself was so spicy but i did go back out to get him something different to eat. But definitely it is really good!

Heard about this place when they opened in Swannanoa but never had a chances to go by but since they moved and relocated near Asheville mall it been on the radar again and today was the day. My wife got the Reuben, hot and delicious and I had the Italian. Both were great and the house chips were good. Rye bread is baked in house and super tasty. You can also get meat by the pound. Simple deli menu with great choices and you can even order your pastrami or corned beef sandwich NY style big and thick with meat. Give it a try, can’t go wrong!!!

Great neighborhood deli vibes! We went on a Thursday at lunch time a few weeks before Christmas and it was just great energy. Lots of people, but quick service. The manager or owner even came over to our table to check on us, and played a game with my 7 year old wherin she won a free chocolate chip cookie--so sweet! The food was satisfying and hit the sandwich spot. The only thing we didn't like is the pickles, odd and tasteless. Will definitely go again!

I don’t know how long this place has been here but it was very tasty! I had the meatball sandwich and my husband had the pastrami on rye. Both were excellent!!

What a great, quick deli! We got take out subs for our soccer game and service was wonderful, the team engaged with us while waiting for our food. Drinks were great. The food was great as well!

10’s across the board! I’ve been here at least five times since they opened and will continue to go back! Haven’t been yet? What are you waiting for?! Everything from the sides, sandwiches and salads are to die for! We love Zella’s!
