Zeman's Bakery

Just added this little delightful pastry shop to my list of 2021 favorites. The freshest pastries and break in the area. I love apple turnovers and they have to be light, fresh and mouthwatering. I purchased one along with several other pastries and it was simply delicious. Everything is safely taped off to prevent any exposure to guest, employees and food. Customer service was excellent, prompt and very courteous. Something a lot of places are lacking. Parking available, handicap accessible, socially distance spacing inside. Add this spot to your list.

Had an outstanding experience placing a small catering order (~150 items) for an event. They had an option for mini pastries, which were priced excellently and still quite a decent size. We tried a couple dozen of a few different items, and everything was superb quality and visually appealing. The mini fruit flan tarts received rave reviews from everyone, and the cinnamon pull-aparts were a simple, classic addition to the spread of full-flavor pastries. It is also a major perk for event planning (considering attendee allergies) to know they are a Kosher and nut-free kitchen. Will definitely be a returning customer!!

Dre who works there is unbelievably kind and patient. He took a special order with patience and made everything easy and simple. And everything was prepared perfectly. Thank you!

Opening the door a delicious smell hit my senses, they had soup on and it smelled great. The goodies in the case looked ever better. Staff was friendly, looked like they may be doing some addition to their place too. We picked up several different pastries. The cinnamon swirl rolls were fantastic. Not too sweet and the cinnamon was very flavorful. Also got a load of challah bread. So good, I've been eating it right out of the bag. I'll be back, I wish I'd found this gem years ago.

The food/pastries are insane. Yes, they are very over priced, but it is very good quality stuff. I will keep coming back for as long as I live!

Very disappointed in this bakery. I searched everywhere for a chocolate babka. Finally, called Zemans and they accommodated. I prepaid and when i picked it up i didn't look in the box. When i got home and couldn't wait to try it, i was stunned. It is not a loaf, it is a round, it is mostly dry cake, not the think layers of pastry with chocolate in between. I was planning on taking this up north with friends but will probably leave it at home.

The onion bread roll & Challaha bread was really good. Unfortunately, that was about it. Everything else honestly tasted better at 5- Star bakery. (Particularly the fruit-filled pastries.)

Zeman's is a great bakery with variety of bread and baked goods at reasonable prices. I definitely recommend the regular challah or seven layer cake.

This seems to be a bread place so I'm not surprised but their doughnuts taste like bread dipped in glaze--there's no sweetness or other depth of flavour added to the dough. I ended up throwing them out and this is my 2nd experience in Detroit so far where doughnuts taste like this. The woman who helped us was kind and I might go back to try other menu items to see if they're better.

I miss the original Star bakery. But I will say this, the bakery here is good. Not a favorite but the Hanukkah cookies were a hit with the family as well as some other pastries my daughter tried. A bit sweet for my liking but all in all great variety and everything was fresh.

Since Star Bakery closed, I've been coming to Zeman's. It's great! So far I've tried the onion rolls, rye bread and marble rye. They've all been wonderful. Sorry it took me so long to get there

I love love love Zeman's bakery! My family knows better than to get me any birthday cake other than their Seven Layer Cake. I'm also obsessed with their rainbow chocolate drop cookies. Not to forget, the service is always so lovely and polite!

Hard to believe anyone would rate this bakery anything less than 5 stars. If I didn't live 1 hour away I would weigh 25 pounds more than I do. My favorites are the cream horn, 7 layer cake, cheese danish, and the breads. I'm ready to throw my coat on and drive over.

Zeman's seeded corn rye bread is by far the very best you can get! After Star Bakery went out of business I never thought I would find anything nearly as good.

Their rainbow drop cookies are my favorite (very similar to Superman cookies at bake station). However, pretty much everything they serve here is amazing. Inviting shop with friendly staff.

20 stars! Shoshana is my hero because she sent a delicious 7 Layer cake (like the kind Bubby would make) and cinnamon buns to San Diego! Out of this world! Thank you!

somewhat decent onion rolls however would be really good if they put more onion in the rolls.. they put very little onion in the onion rolls. used to get a roll called carraway horn with salt on it.. don't seem to carry this anymore... it was my favorite..norman schwartz

Amazing bakery. This place has been around for at least fifty years and keeps getting better. I moved out of state but make a point of going back every time I'm in Oak Park for a visit. Everything they make is great, but make sure you try the cheese danish! And remember to get some sprinkle cookies for the kids.

This place looks like a hole in the wall , but it's the real deal Jewish bread. My dad used to get bread here weekly. Seriously..it is the best!

This bakery is the best! The pullaparts, hamentaschen, donuts and coffee cake are so delicious I drive from Illinois.

I like new places so my friend and I decided to give this place a try. When you first come in the atmosphere looks pretty plain and basic. The bakery items did not look appetizing. None of the employees greeted or tried to help us. It is sad that you have to practically beg for help and not receive good customer service.

Oh Zeman's... The last 2x I went here the rolls and the challah were stale, but maybe it was because I was being a total goy and going in on a Tuesday. Zeman's... you can be so fickle sometimes. I went to Westborn recently, and these Zeman's onion rolls caught my eye. My mother and I were going to do our deli tail-gate, and we needed bookahs (rolls in Polish)! So there they were... tempting me. I knew it could be a fail since they weren't from the bakery itself, and they might be stale... but damn it, they looked so delicious! How could I not? What would be better with a ham and cheese sandwich than an ONION ROLL? The onion rolls are RIDICULOUS. I'm not sure what I like more, their challah or onion rolls! Now I want more!

Old style classic bakery that my Grandmother would have loved. Don't expect cheesecake cookies or double fudge chocolate muffins. Very basic, very simple, cookies are okay.

I'm only giving 4 stars right now banking on the possibility I will travel there soon and check it out to try other goodies! First, I have to say the challah dinner rolls are a staple at family get-togethers. The last one I was at I had forgotten all about these wonderful little knots of yummy and rediscovered them. Second, I found out that Busch's in Plymouth and HIller's in Plymouth carry some of Zeman's products, including these rolls! While I do concede that homemade challah is UNBEATABLE, I don't care what bakery it is, these little guys are definite contenders. Especially if I don't have enough time to make homemade challah *wink!*. *c

their danish rolls and apple turnovers are great! kids get a free cookie so my son is definitely a fan. the people there are very friendly and were patient enough to explain all the desserts to a clueless person like myself. i'm looking forward to going back and trying some more treats.

The challah is the best nice soft and eggy. I only eat babka made homemade by family or Zeman's no one else's. The apple babka is the best crazy good. Finally as a newly converted Jew they make me feel at home. Everyone that works there is nice, professional and kind. When I was in Michigan for an extended stay one of the employees help me find a shul to observe Shabbat. Not only is the food awesome but so are the people who work there.

If I want any Jewish sort of dessert other than a seven layer cake, I would come to Zeman's. It is the worst temptation walking around in here, because it smells so goooood. It is conveniently located near the Pita Cafe, so if you forgo dessert at the restaurant, give this bakery some consideration.

Whether it's for a Shabbat dinner, a brunch or a small get together be sure to check out Zeman's. It's the perfect addition to any gathering. Zeman's may be an oldie but it's always a goody. You will never be disappointed with the wide array of kosher goods from a classic rye to the moist seven layer cake anything you get at Zeman's is sure to delight.

Absolute Morans Never order something to be delivered from this place. They are lucky to have a niche market in that their kosher otherwise this business would not stay alive with the idiots working there!! I ordered a birthday cake to be delivered but it never arrived. When I called the bakery they said they never got an order... well my credit card was charged!! Then I was told they don't take credit cards over the phone... I live in Chicago and my credit card was charged so guess what MORAN....someone took a credit card over the phone. The insult to injury is there was now ownership or apology and someone went without a birthday cake!!!! Great job Zeeman's awesome customer service. You should be ashamed if only this werent par for the course... Remember Bake Station cuz I sure do!!!

In full disclosure, I'm related to the owners. But I have to say that every time I eat a donut, mezonot roll, glazed cookie, or a piece of their fruit flan, or lemon meringue pie, I'm instantly in heaven! And I personally know how hard my family works to keep this business running. I'm assuming this won't be a recommended review, but I decided to post anyhow!

The best bakery around! I go there every week and pick up some of the amazing New York Onion Rolls, they are out of this world!!! The employees are always very helpful and friendly. GREAT BAKERY!

Aside from their great seven layer cake, you need to try their apricot nut squares (at least I think that's what they're called). They are the perfect blend of sweet, flaky and tangy.

Fantastic service... I had to send a shiva basket to Southfield from New York. Daniel Abraham was so very helpful and kind. He even included a lovely card from a neighboring card shop and personally delivered it. Zeman's - you should get a website.
