James Beard Award-Winning Chef Sue Zemanick Is Opening a New Restaurant | Eater New Orleans

"Taking over the Mid City space recently vacated by Rue 127, Sue Zemanick is opening her own upscale restaurant this fall; she’s revealed few details, but early reports say she’ll keep her cooking in line with what she did at Gautreau’s—expect refined, seasonal, French-style dishes with influences and twists from other repertoires—while aiming for affordable pricing and lots of seafood." - Stephanie Carter

I visited this establishment to furnish my lady companion with a beefsteak. We were not disappointed. Service was on point. Portions were decently large. Quality was excellent. I do wish that I had availed myself of the salad bar. Perhaps next time.

Stopped in on our way up North! The place was packed! It was a Friday night so of course we tried the fish fry! We tried the combo plate, 2 pieces of breaded cod, 2 breaded shrimp, we opted for the sidewinder fries. The fish was good, the breading ok. The shrimp were severely overcooked. The sidewinder fries were excellent. We also tried the stuffed shrimp. There were 5 large shrimp with a mushroom duxelle and crab stuffing topped with hollandaise sauce and melted cheese. Neither of us cared for these, I was looking for a more crab forward filling, they were definitely kind of wet. We opted to get the salad bar as well, typical WI salad bar, delicious. We tried the fried Brussel sprout appetizer which came with a horseradish sauce, these were pretty good. The dinner rolls were soft, fresh and very good. Our server was phenomenal. The bus girl on top of things like clearing plates, getting drink refills and bringing boxes. It is VERY VERY VERY LOUD, great for a bar, not as great for dinner. The bathrooms are by the front door and although they were clean they keep the doors open, kind of uncomfortable as it is b the front door. We would probably try this place again as they have quite a menu, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here again.

Enjoyed our meal. A meat and fish restaurant. Nice atmosphere. Felt like you eating at a table in your home. Good service. They were busy so we waited a little long for our food. The mixed drinks were good and an extremely fair priced. I had the wild mushroom ravioli. My dinner mates had Marsala chicken (she wished it had a little more sauce on it and Ruben sandwich with fries. Not many choices for vegetarians. The one they had was excellent. We will go there again. I thought the salad was very pretty.

Service was wonderful, great atmosphere. Steak (filet mignon), loaded baked potato and French onion soup were incredible. Old fashioned was great too!!! Been here a handful of times and always been really good!

The food was decent but when I asked about the mashed potatoes, I was informed they weren't made in house. Weird. We ordered deep fried pickles, they came out half burnt and French fry size. My son and I had the Cod and it was okay. The dinner rolls tasted store bought and old. The service was okay but when you have 2 servers trying to service the whole restaurant, its not easy. The reason for the 3 stars is because my son and I are allergic to dogs. After we arrived we both started sneezing and our nose was running. I started to have a hard time breathing. We didnt realize why until the table next to us got up and left. They had a Dog at there table. Not a service dog but an emotional support dog, which shouldn't be allowed in the restaurant. If your going to allow dogs at least let the other customers know the dog is there. Some of us can have severe reactions to dogs. I did say something to the host and her response was " I have 2 dogs, and you didnt tell me your allergic" why would I, Im not expecting a dog in your tiny restaurant.

Second time here on purpose. Last month we happened in at dinner on prime rib night. Excellent! Today we enjoyed patty melt lunch served by Diane. Excellent!

Had the Worse brisket sandwich I’ve ever had at the Sauk fair today! It was so dry and chunky, bbq couldn’t save it. The coleslaw I had was very good.

Yelp
The bar that was at my hotel was completely awful. I was staying in the area and I wanted a bar to check out they had food and a great drink menu but for me too I personally wanted to see if they had non-alcoholic options. This place was right across the street from my hotel. I absolutely enjoy this place just because it was full of locals in the area. The bar was very cozy and I felt right at home here. Staff here was absolutely friendly as well as the Patriots that made me feel welcome as well. I tried their cheeseburger while I was rolling through their menu and to be honest the menu is very appetizing for what is offered you will believe what they have here. The presentation of the cheeseburger as well as the pricing of all the menu items and how they taste for a bar of all places was absolutely incredible and it is top tier! For those looking for a non-alcoholic beverage they have a non-alcoholic Busch as well as a non-alcoholic Heineken besides water juices Etc if you want to fit in with everyone else. They got gaming machines and what seems to be the most popular attraction are the pull tabs. Service was very friendly it's a mostly older crowd too. Overall I left very satisfied and I was not expecting how great this bar would be! Incredible hours too. Highly recommend visiting

Yelp
Met here for a business meeting. Maybe it's because we came at lunch but we were seated immediately and had wonderful service. I see the other reviews outline a different experience so I was pleasantly surprised. We had the special ($6 burger), everything was seasoned well and tasty! Definitely get the sidewinder fries. We heard from locals the fish fry is well worth trying. I would definitely stop here again to grab a meal. Their wraps looked delicious. I would also try the peanut butter burger next time!!

Yelp
Can't say we would ever go back. Besides the local bar flies we were the only ones in the restaurant. I will say the beer was cold but we ordered two items and they forgot one. The burger wasn't bad but not that good. Thank god we stopped at the slots on our way out and one enough to pay for dinner

Yelp
Great service, great food, great patrons! We were passing through town on a Wednesday, and found Zeman's on Google maps. Their reviews were good there, so we went. I'm glad we didn't see the Yelp reviews first. We had a great time. Service by Jen and Blue was friendly, prompt, and attentive. The Brussels sprouts, amazing. The chicken marsala was wonderful. The walleye was done to perfection. We will stop again when in Baraboo!!

Yelp
Experience from my Neighbor William: We went to Baraboo yesterday and went out to dinner with family. Decided to try a different restaurant. We went to Zeman's Old Highway House. None of us will be going back. The service was very slow and they gave us a different waitress after we ordered. Took 45 minutes before we received our meals. The food was not that good. When it came time to pay we were given the wrong bills. My sister never got her bill because they had to redo them. Our grandson had to wait for his credit card after everyone paid. We will not be going back there. Robert Ervin from Restaurant Impossible would have a fit if he saw this restaurant.

Yelp
Group of 4 went on Saturday night for their prime rib special. 1 ordered medium, 3 ordered medium rare. If you get salad as your side, they'll bring out plates and you help yourself to the salad bar. We waited, waited, and waited for our plates. 15-20 minutes maybe??? As we were sitting there I noticed many tables that were seated after us were already eating their salads. Finally she brought them out (and apologized). Went through the salad bar. Just as we started eating our salads, our entrees came out by another server. Less than ideal. We weren't surprised since it took so long to get our salad plates. The server said here's your medium prime ribs. One of us told here that he ordered medium rare (as did 2 others of us). She said something like - "Yeah, they're all the same". What??? So yeah, we all received medium prime ribs. Barely any pink. Ate them anyway. Besides being medium, they were dry and just ok tasting. I noticed our waitress was apologizing to just about every one of her tables. It was busy so she must have been slow or forgotten things at all of her tables. I can't speak for their other menu items, but don't order the prime rib. Try Quindt's.

Yelp
service was slow! 40 minute wait for a table at 5pm. Bartender was rude when we only ordered sodas. Baked fish serving was so small, 2 pieces about the size and width of half a hot dog. Stale rolls. Added on salad bar for an additional $5, we were given a tiny salad plate and tiny bowl to use at the salad bar. We were seated at a 4 person table. I was asked to please remove my purse from one of the extra chairs because the chair was needed at another table. Took forever to get our entrees and then our check. Food was mediocre. Bar was full because of drink specials making it very noisy in the dining area.

Yelp
We used to go here often with others and always had to wait, the last time the hostess just did not want to seat us since our table that we finally were seated at was open the entire 48 minutes we waited. Went there (after 9 months) at 7pm on Friday night. Was told by same hostess there was a half hour wait. We walked by the dining room on the way to a seat off of the bar, noticed there were 3 tables empty. Ordered a coke, it was just co2 water, so after getting the bartenders attention again (took 10 minutes the first time) she acted like it was an imposition to check it out. She had to go to the lower level, and that took another 5 minutes, but she came back, and it was fixed. We noticed 2 other couples being seated that arrived after us and should have left then. Wished we had. We were finally seated (after 55 minutes) at one of the 3 tables that were empty when we came in. The other 2 tables had already ordered before our waitress came. She was a very nice person and took our order, but did not bring the salad bar plate for at least 5 minutes. Then the fish came, very undercooked, salty and actually had a weird taste, almost chemical. We did not send it back, but we did not eat it either. The waitress asked us 3 times if everything was ok, but now it is 8:30 and we just want to go. There was a 3% charge for using a debit card. We will not wait another 9 months to go back, we just will not go back at all. The hostess really does a bad job at seating guests .

Yelp
Very expensive, for what you get. That is, if you're even able to order from there. Not exaggerating at all, we have tried over six separate times to call and place a order to go. The phone will just ring, or on multiple occasions they just close the kitchen a couple hours early. We keep giving them other chances because they are a local establishment, but we are done there. I can't say they are overly friendly, their portions are very small, and the food isn't the greatest. We've had well-done burgers from them, raw fries, and the bruschetta is over saturated in balsamic vinegar. I don't recommend.

Yelp
Arrived at 4:15 was told dinner service didn't start until 5:00 but we could sit at the bar and order an appetizer. We each ordered a drink and two appetizers. At 5:00 We had to flag down the hostess to ask about getting seated for dinner. We settled our bar tab and she told us she had a quiet table for us off to the back because it would be noisy with a party of 22 coming in. At that time there were several tables open in The dining room and other people who came in after us were seated in the dining room. The "quiet" table was actually the server's break table behind the bar by where the servers kept their belongings and drinks and entered their orders. I wish I'd said something right away but I was afraid of what might happen with our food before it was served to us. In hindsight I wish we had just gotten up and left. Our server was actually very attentive, but the dinner was awful. My prime rib was raw, the grilled shrimp over cooked and chewy and my husbands fries were so salty he couldn't eat them. The bar became so crowded people were standing next to our table. At this point I asked for the manager. A woman came over and said the manager wasn't there (really, on a busy Saturday night?) and I complained about all of the above. To their credit they took $25 off our bill. They promote themselves as a supper club but they are really nothing more than a crappy neighborhood bar with average food. Beware, and maybe consider spending your hard earned $$ elsewhere.

Yelp
Stopped in to try and the special was burger and fries for 6$ any topping was a little extra. I had a cheeseburger with fried onions and it was deliciously juicy and the sidewinder fries were awesome! They were busy but had a good attentive staff and little wait. We also had a bowl of French onion soup which was hot cheesy and yummy. Very nice menu with reasonable prices, nightly specials and a salad bar. Will definitely be back to try some more of the specials!

Yelp
I hate leaving negative reviews for a business like this as it seems like a Mom and Pop type place that wants to do well but I was very disappointed. We hadn't been to the Highway House for literally 30 years. It was our go to when we were younger and wanted prime rib. It was worth the 20 mile drive then when we lived in a nearby town, but not now. We no longer live in the area but were traveling through Baraboo and saw the Highway House was still open, or at least re-opened in the same place with same name. We stopped around 6:30 on a Saturday night and were seated, without reservations, within 15 minutes. We each had an old fashioned which was made with pre-made mix-- a big No-No if you want to call yourself a Wisconsin supper club. The drink was mediocre. My wife had petite prime rib with 3 grilled shrimp added for additional $10. The prime rib was ok but not wow! like we remembered from years ago. The shrimp was, well, grilled shrimp. No cocktail sauce was offered until we asked. I ordered a half rack of baby back ribs-- terrible! They were NOT baby back ribs. They were the thick, fatty and what felt like steamed pork ribs by their texture. There was little or no seasoning on them. There was a bland barbecue sauce added on top but obviously added right before it was brought out. It wasn't tough but certainly not fall-off-the bone tender and had no smoked or grilled taste at all. The thick meat came off the bone stringy. They tasted like pigs smell. Not good at all. I only ate about 1/4 of them. It's laughable they actually call them BABY BACK ribs. I'm not one to complain to staff or send food back once I get it as who knows what you'll get back or what will be in it if they give you a replacement. The people were nice, service was 7/10 and the place has potential. I hope it can get back to what it used to be but I won't be going back. Biggest upside was the prices were extremely reasonable.
