New England’s Best Teahouses | Eater Boston

"Connecticut’s first matcha teahouse serves ceremonial grade matcha sourced from a 400-year-old family farm in Kyoto, Japan. Zen Cha is located in the Darien Commons shopping mall, and features a serene, minimalist aesthetic accented by touches like Eighth Acre ikebana-style flower arrangements. Get comfortable on the shoe-free tatami mat for a traditional tea ceremony, or pull up a casual stool to sip matcha lattes and drinks like matcha yuzu lemonade sweetened with organic maple syrup." - Stasia Brewczynski

At Zen Cha Matcha, you are bound to find not only find amazing drinks, but wonderful people like Dan, MJ, Stephanie, Louriece, Enzo, and Jericho. I can say with certainty that there isn’t any one place comparable to Zen Cha whether it be in the quality of their drinks, the freshness of their baked goods, their friendly staff, or even just their awesome vibes and location. The Blue Zen matcha is my absolute favorite, combining matcha with Ceylon Cinnamon, Madagascar Vanilla, and other health centric additions. Truly, I must encourage you to visit.

It’s nice in here. I’ve ordered three drinks on three separate occasions recently. They were all delicious. The atmosphere is modern, chic, calm. They also offer several other items besides food and quality flavored matcha to purchase.

Had an amazing time visiting Zen Cha with calming atmosphere and creative menu. I tried the mango matcha latte and sakura salted honey matcha as recommended by Barista Mikey. Excellent service and would come back again!

Let me tell you how much I absolutely looove this matcha spot! (˶˃ ᗜ ˂˶)🩷. The vibes are immaculate from the interior design to even the music selection. The matcha is soooo green ✧。٩(ˊᗜˋ )و✧*。and I'm a massive fan of the clean ingredients used for all their drinks. They also have special drinks on the weekend so I always feel so spoiled for choice (fav so far is their blueberry vanilla latte) (っ˘ڡ˘ς) I would definitely recommend for folks to visit this placeദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧ (Also they give free stickers lol) ⎛⎝( ` ᢍ ´ )⎠⎞ᵐᵘʰᵃʰᵃ

My partner and I’m so glad to have found sound quality matcha & delicious homemade treats outside NYC. We travel from Rockland County every weekend to enjoy the calm and zen environment of the tea room. We’ve become close w/ Dan and MJ and have shared many wonderful conversations. This spot doesn’t disappoint.

The matcha was rich and slightly sweet, and it was cool to see it made in front of me, tea ceremony style. But the staff didn’t really explain much and the service felt a bit cold, which made the vibe kinda uncomfortable. It’s mostly a to-go place — very small, limited seating, and surprisingly no restroom. Not sure if I’d come back.

Drove 1 hour in heavy traffic from west haven after seeing this cafe on instagram. 100% worth it. Was never a matcha girlie but Zen cha made me a matcha girlie and I’ll be coming back again no matter if I have to travel 2 hours 🥹❤️

Yelp
Zen Cha Matcha is a cafe specializing in matcha elixirs with tea snacks and sweets. They've taken roots in Darien Commons surrounded by other shops and businesses. I spoke to Dan, one of the owners of Zen Cha Matcha on the phone a week before I made a visit trying to obtain more information on their establishment and looking for tea ceremony opportunities. I learned that they have an upcoming bamboo carving class, tomorrow actually and an Ikebana class on Valentine's Day with limited seats available. We arrived more than a couple of hours after opening and they've not even had a chance to re-stock their counter with breads and donuts. They have been receiving guests non-stop since our arrival. The whole cafe is pretty much an experience. You can watch the matcha be prepared in a step by step process before it is added to your beverage to complete the elixir; or while it is being prepared, have a seat at the tatami mat (if vacant) to listen and enjoy the Japanese Lofi Zen Garden playlist playing in the store. Today I am trying a couple of their matcha beverages, Pink Coconut Matcha and Sakura Salted Honey Matcha while being delighted to be at their wonderful shop!! I consumed the former in store and could really taste the coconut water. It was quite refreshing. I took a few sips of the latter tasting the distinct flavor of honey and took it to-go. The donut was coated with matcha glaze and had hints of banana. I also tried the chocolate vegan bread which I loved very much. I was also surprised by the matcha tiramisu. I hadn't expected there would be such a choice. Who knew mascarpone cheese and matcha marries well! There are a few items for sale such as matcha bowls, tea accessories, snacks and more. I am so happy they are in Connecticut and can't wait to return!

Yelp
My friend and I stopped in this super cute cafe. I got the miso matcha caramel latte and it was so good! Although on the sweeter side, the combo of flavors hit the spot. The cafe itself was also quiet, clean and feeling zen. They even have a traditional table chabudai that you may choose to sit down at and enjoy your tea. I would definitely go back to try their other fun drink concoctions!

Yelp
Matcha was good. Baked items were good. Here's the issue: a plain matcha (matcha and water) and one small donut was almost 16.00. I am happy to pay for quality; however, if you charge these prices, please provide a level of service that one would expect with a $16 Matcha tea and small donut. The Matcha tea was served in a plastic cup. No option for real glassware. There was nowhere to really sit. The donut was served in a paper bag, and when I requested a knife to cut to share with my friend, there were no knives so we ended up using our fingers. Also, there was no access to the bathroom. Very rarely have I been in a dining environment, where there is not a bathroom for clientele.
