Zeni-Ya Japanese Fast Food

This review is for the teriyaki bowl only, as thats the only thing I ordered. Was recommended this place by a coworker or two. They said it was great. The only caveat was that they are a cash only establishment. Finally was in the area and hungry at the same time and decided to give it a go. Its in a strip mall on a nice side of town. The inside has plenty of seating if you'd like to eat inside. I opted for take out as it was a busy day. I ordered the combo teriyaki bowl of the "0". It was $11 for the bowl which isn't horrible for a meal in town but if you're looking to get a lot of meat, this is not the bowl for you. The chicken on the bowl was just shredded chicken breast. It was dry. . . really dry. It had a slight hint of teriyaki flavor on it. It tasted like it was boiled then shredded. Maybe some people like that. I'm not one of them. It was like eating shredded cardboard. The beef was a little bit better. It had more teriyaki flavor. It appeared as though it had been on a grill at some point due to grill marks on it. But it was really thinly sliced and tasty. The rice was cooked well. Teriyaki on the side was just standard teriyaki. It filled the hole. But nothing more. I wouldn't actively seek to go there again. And would not suggest it to anyone else.

Make sure to bring cash. Cards are not accepted. The rice and sauce on point the chicken not so much dry and tough. Chicken bowl 10.50 it seem small but it will fill you up.

This place has the best chicken salads period. Family owned, and everyone is nice. Place is clean and food is great.

This is amazing food. A plus is that it is macro friendly and has tasty food!! Would 100% recommend. The customer service is amazing. They are so friendly and helpful. Me and my sister ordered food to go but couldn’t wait to eat it. So we sat down and started eating and the gal offered us water because we didn’t have any!! So thoughtful!! The 1a bowls are so good and are easy on sensitive stomachs! The cucumber salad is also amazing!!

Spicy Chicken Teriyaki Bowl just ok. I've definitely have had better teriyaki bowls else where. The chicken is as dry and bland as it looks. Should've gone for something else is all I could say. I hear the other menu items are better but definitely wouldn't recommend this item

So disappointed. My first time trying this place . I Called my order in for pick up while on my lunch break . When i arrived to pay with Debt card , The man at the counter said they don't accept cards , Cash Only .. Would have been nice if they mention it while i was ordering . So took my card somewhere else .

Ordered salads, California roll and beef stick plate. All salads and rolls were fine. The dinner was cold and tasteless probably because it was prepared long before scheduled pickup. Timing was probably a factor here because they generally close at 6:30 and we were picking up at 6:15. Based on the dinner meal, it was probably prepared as much as an hour earlier. I was also surprised because they didn't take credit. But I had enough cash on me to pay the bill. I feel certain that under different circumstances, the dinner plate would have been much more palatable if it is consumed shortly after it's prepared. i abhor giving unfavorable ratings. But in order to serve the purpose of a rating fairly, the business needs to know what the issues are. Certainly not a reflection on the owners or staff. It is simply an honest assessment of my experience with my meal. Another way of looking at it is one out of four ain't bad.

Perfection in simplicity. They don't take credit cards, so plan to bring cash. Simple, straightforward, no frills high-quality food. I love the plain chicken and rice bowl, with a touch of green onions and their signature sauce. I could eat it every single day. Once in a while, something different is in order and I'll try the steak and chicken combo bowl, or a whole order of the Chinese chicken salad. You just can't go wrong. Great place to stop and pick up fast and healthy meal on your way home from work. The people who run/own the restaurant are very nice and very efficient. Very casual and clean atmosphere with plenty of seating if you choose to dine in. They've been in business for decades. And for good reason.

I truly enjoy their chicken salad and spicy beef bowl. Super fresh, fast, and prompt with pushing out food. Staff is friendly and it's clean inside. Truly a Fresno gem. Yes, is cash only.

Totally agree with the previous person's review. The food is pretty good, love the chicken salad. Some of the workers are really friendly. The restaurant is small and in the corner of the shopping center. But the hours are super inconvenient. They're only open weekdays supposedly until 6:30 pm. But like the previous reviewer, I've tried calling to order a little before or after 6 pm multiple times and no one answers. A couple times I've shown up at the restaurant around 6:20 and they're already closed and the workers leaving despite claiming to open until 6:30.

My wife and I get their chicken salad at least once a week if not more. Service is always great. I also enjoy their beef ramen bowls.

This place is a CASH ONLY restaurant. Called a few minutes before noon to place a takeout order. When I showed up for my takeout, it was pretty busy already inside. I ordered the Spicy Beef Donburi for lunch, it was delicious. It came with a cucumber salad that was yummy also. The meal was prepared really quick for it being a busy lunch time and the portions are just right. I will definitely order from here again, just have to remember to have cash on me.

The best chicken. Salad you will ever have! Libe in fresnonand got it all the time, now living in vehas and go to fresnoni make sure I bring atleast 4 ot 5 salads home! I'd drive the 6 hrs just for this salad! I never leave town without having it!

Swung by at 1pm on a Monday since I was in town. They were definitely busy! There was a decent line and all tables were full inside but the line moved quickly. PARKING: plenty of spaces since it's a big lot. Just be weary of the constant flow of traffic CASH AND CHECK ONLY. When I lived here, I always came for the Zeni-Ya chicken salad. Sad to see the prices go up over the years but oh well. The salad is my fave. Very filling. The dressing is hit or miss sometimes but I like when it has more vinegar than oil.

it's so good.. the crunchy ice is top tier, the chicken bowl is goated, and they have some really good dr pepper

I feel like every Negative Review is quite petty and very one sided where they just couldn't get what they want when changing the menu on this Small Business. I have been coming here for years and they stay efficient and keep their prices low with no credit cards. If you are willing to spend more just to use credit cards or debit. Just go somewhere else and don't make a big deal out of it with the business here. It's not perfect but at least they apologize for their mistakes and try their best to accommodate. It's small simple place. Not meant to be over hyped or some Michelin Star Joint. Grow up. You either go there because of the efficiency or you go there for in and out type of service. - If you want some 4 or 5 star meal go somewhere else and make their day hard. Or go to an actual Sit Down and Dine restaurant. - Lastly remember these are all people in the business, they want to go home too. If you go late they won't always be able to accommodate. So go early if you want them to be able to accommodate. Don't be those late come in and try to be like oohhhh they can't be the best in the world.

Food is solid but very basic. But the service - wow - feel like I'm in line at the Seinfeld Soup guy. And 6:30 posted hours but don't try calling to order after 6 or showing up after 6:15.

This has been a Fresno fav of mine for a long time and I'm just getting around to a review. What I appreciate most is their consistency. I've yet to have a bad experience. Each and every time I've come in their so quick and the food comes out devious every time. Service is great, staff is always on it! And you can tell they really care about their business. I am and always will be a ride or die for Zeni Ya. Heads up...they do only accept cash!

Very affordable. Good service. I always get their rice bowls for my lunch at work. I hear the chicken salad is super popular but haven't tried it yet. The bowls and their shrimp tempura is always on point though. The vibe there is nice too.

You must try their chicken salad. They also offer it spicy. Udon noodles is bomb too! Not sure what to get, try these at least.

A little fast food gem. There's nothing overdone about the food. It's simple, tasty, and fast. If you're looking for a quick bite this is just the place for you. I normally get a donburi bowl or the chicken salad but everything is equally good. The place is small and lunch can be busy but it's worth it. The staff is also polite and happy to answer any questions. The soda always tends to be a little flat though. Bring cash, they don't take card. Even though I've stopped by multiple times I still sometimes forget.

Zeni-Ya is easily a hidden gem in North Fresno. Very cheap, I got a teriyaki chicken and steak bowl for $10 out the door. Yes they are a cash only spot but it's for sure worth stopping at the atm before if needed. I stop by once a week easily

This is one of my favorite spots in Fresno. Food is great, and it's a great fast lunch spot. LOVE the chicken salad or rice bowls. Fresh and healthy. A reminder, though, it's cash only. They do not take credit or debit cards.

Super yummy! Haven't had this place in a while but it was just as delicious as I remember. My only comment would be for them to give the phone orders their total when the order is placed. I was aware of a price increase and planned accordingly but when I got there I was told there was ANOTHER price increase just as of a couple days ago. This place is CASH ONLY so needing to know the price in advance would help a lot of people have no surprises! Thank you I will return the chicken salad is probably one of the best in town. My husband picked up a chicken rice bowl tonight for me! I didn't get the white meat because I thought it would be dry and flavorless! But the chicken was like was rubbery and dry ! What's going on with chicken? I love their chicken salad but the chicken is gross! Do they not eat the food they produce? Also the teriyaki sauce was watery! I threw it away

First, CASH only, which is a bit of a thing since I hardly ever carry cash these days, but no big deal. Customer service was amazing, super friendly and fast service. Ordered the chicken teriyaki bowl and a chicken teriyaki combo. Both white meat. The chicken was SUPER dry, but that could be our fault for ordering white meat, so I'll try dark meat next time. Teriyaki sauce is great, very thin, but tasty. Rice was good, tempura was tasty. We also ordered the beef skewer and that was my favorite part of the meal. Overall, I'll be back again. Good prices, pretty good food overall. Excellent customer service.

I just went here the other day! It's probably the most fun because it's never changed! Sample simple restaurant and menu. I got a beef bowl, a drink and tempura. It was ready within ten min. It was hot and fresh! Delicious predictable food! One thing, only cash, so go prepared. It's so yummy go check it out

My absolute favorite place in town to get a chicken salad. The ingredients are fresh and super crunchy. The salad itself is very simple, not like one of those salads that has all different kinds of vegetables in it, and I appreciate that. The dressing is delicious, and I always make sure to buy extra dressing to make my own salads at home. -1 star due to it being cash only. With me just carrying my phone and tapping to pay for everything nowadays, I really need to go out of the way to get cash.

So for my #2 locally owned challenge during the shelter in place order we have Zeni-Ya!! During my last pregnancy I craved their chicken salad and now that my son is five months I still crave it! Yes the salad is simple but it's the dressing that makes it amazing!So for lunch today my daughters (which are 8 and 10 they love this salad)and I did a quick pickup and yes guys they are still doing pickups!!! Also if you aren't a regular they only take cash or checks ! Big portions and quick service, great local place

First of all, I absolutely love their "beef donburri" bowl. It is super delicious, and priced pretty good for the amount you get. But, I can't give it 5 stars due to a couple of things that irk me. WTF don't you guys accept credit cards? Stop being so cheap with the credit card fees you're trying to avoid. I get that they are busy as is, but they could be receiving so much more business if they stopped with the "cash only" bs, smh. Also, there is something about the older Japanese ladies who work here. They give off a vibe on the phone (acting like a smart ass when I asked to clarify what they had) or in person as if they are so stuck up and trying to act like they are in some "Real housewives of Fresno" alternative reality, smh. GTFO and just go in the back and make my food, smh.

Absolute, Japanese fast food staple of north Fresno! I've been coming here for decades and that won't change unless they get rid of cash. Zeni's only takes cash but I kind of like that about this place, unless I have no cash on me of course. Then I get irritated but it subsides once I get my chicken salad! Their salad is prob one of those things I can eat just about every day, it just never gets old. The vinaigrette dressing does it for me. I can sip on that stuff like a nice drink, haha, it's that good! I absolutely love their California rolls. They can be really feeling and hit that sushi craving without going all in. And who doesn't love some tempura veggies! Theirs are my favorite. I can't say enough about all the yummy options. I even love their simple little ramens! Yummy!! The service is simple and straightforward. Some days they are the nicest people and some days it's cut and dry. But it's always fast! waiting longer then 10 minutes. There's a decent amount of seating inside but I never eat there. Go anymore. I just take it to go and eat it at home.

Best Chinese chicken salad. Get the extra crispiest! Even the half order is HUGE. Love the homestyle sushi rolls where the rice grains are respected by seasoned hands, not mushed together by rookies. I also like the tempura-it's authentic! Support this local institution. And bring cash!!

The Chinese chicken salad is the only thing I have eaten here and it is very good. I have heard that the teriyaki chicken is not very good though. The salad dressing is my favorite. Just the right amount of tang to it. I wish there was more chicken. But there is just the right amount of crunch to this salad. It is a good healthy way to eat out when the family wants something. I always get the full salad, and to be honest I finish it all. It is not too large and is good for one meal.

The BEST chicken salad I've had. I really like Norimaki sushi because they taste like the authentic Japanese sushi I used to eat as a kid. This place is kind of interesting because it's really small and can't really tell if it's opened or not from outside because the windows are tinted and can't really see inside. The open sign is not really visible from the parking lot unless you get closer because it's on the bottom. But , it seems to be always crowded! And such diverse customers. During lunch time it's packed with long line. Even at 2 pm it still was pretty crowded. Seems there are a lot of " regulars " that come here. Overall , I really like this place a lot because it's comfortable to sit and eat even when you are by yourself because it's a self serve style. Cash only !!!
