Get Your Hot Dogs Here, Atlanta

"A classic is always a surefire. This Atlanta staple is known for its soft-serve ice creams and loaded sundaes, along with hamburgers and hot dogs. The all-beef foot-long dog is served with chili, mustard, onions, and slaw. Also try the bacon cheese dog that comes loaded with chili and onions. There are three locations in Forest Park, East Atlanta, and Tyrone." - Eater Staff

The Best Soft Serve Ice Cream in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"Zesto’s Drive-In has been an Atlanta institution since the first location opened in 1949 on Peachtree Street across from Brookwood Station. With only three remaining outposts in East Atlanta, Forrest Park, and Tyrone, people can still partake in one of the restaurant’s most popular items: soft serve ice cream. My experiece

Google
Same meal a day apart cooked differently, taste different container for dessert. After a long wait I was expecting the food to hot but it wasn't. The first day the order took 26 minutes in the drive thru, the second day way 15 minutes. The best thing I ordered was the brownie bite sundae, the okra was good the first day. I must say the customer service was above excellent though and I will visit again.

Google
My gizzards had no taste and not cleaned. The patty melt was overly greasy the onions rings had no flavor what so ever. I only ate my gizzards with hot sauce because, I was hungry. I will not be back‼️ I basically spent $25 for fried gizzards in cornmeal⁉️ This whole meal is unacceptable‼️

Google
Food Rating: Grade Pending: (F) 1. None of the items have allergen information listed. 2. ServeSafe Managers & Allergen Credentials are not readily in view of customers. 3. Several employees were consuming food on the line and a male in the rear did not change gloves before serving a drive thru customer. 4. There was open boxes and visible garbage in the food prep areas that was not properly disposed. 5. There were several food service items (the boats) that were turned up when food was not in preparation to be placed in them. Ambiance: The outside of the facility was clean in accordance with the community standards (it’s in a developing area). The Food and Service: The people were nice and accommodating which was the best part of the experience. I ordered the footlong hotdog special with the onion rings as a side. The beverage was water. The hotdog was tough as rubber. The Bread was stale. The chili was not worthy of taste or quality and would definitely not pass as consumable to canned dog food companies. The slaw was a shame and embarrassment to the organization. The onion rings, appears to be store breaded, were simply greasy and burnt. The Banana Split was a sliced banana with a thin layer of soft serve ice cream, drizzle of chocolate sauce, raw- syrup tossed walnuts (very hard), canned pineapple, canned strawberries, topped with a mountain of highly processed whipped cream, and 3 cherries that were so acidic that the sauce caused the cream to break. (Spoiled cherries kill people—just and FYI). Tasting it was a disaster. Even after scaling back all of that cream it was just a mess pool of milk water and chocolate sauce. Sugar is hydroscopic which draws out liquids from food in this case the bananas and fruit that created a mess. The entire ice cream melted from a short walk from the counter to the table. In my view after 70+ years the quality has definitely decreased from what I ate in this facility as a small kid. This is very disappointing and if the business is to survive then the management really should consider hiring a real executive chef (not manager) and the owners should scale competition. I say this as a fair warning because I’m relocating from NYC to ATL and I will determine if I should contact you to purchase this company and restore it and make it better—or if it’s cheaper—to just open up shop close to your locations and put you out of business. You should be truly ashamed to serve this food in the Black Communities to hard working people who have supported your business for decades and the younger (or new owners) have resorted to feeding them food not fit as animal feed.

Google
Good customer service. Food wasn't all that great. Burger was sopped in mayo, chili was half grease and fries were soft/undercooked. The sweet tea was a hit! The ice was my favorite part 😁 Would definitely get the job done if your stomach can handle it.

Google
Best fast food burger I've had in a long time ... great value! Onion rings were scrumptious, and the sweet tea was fresh! Neighborhood is in transition, but is still safe. Inside was very clean!

Google
This place gives fallout shelter. Both inside and outside. Very tattered and run down. I waited behind 6 people ordering. While another employee watched. Finally finishing up my order, two other people walk in and she stops making my milkshake to take care of them. Waited 48 minutes for 3 meals. Currently still waiting on the milkshake……. Ms. Saundra if your done can you please make my milkshake.

I just visited Zesto, a place I have fond memories of from my childhood, but my experience left me extremely disappointed. I decided to give it a try after many years, hoping to relive some of those memories, but I regret every bit of it! First, the service was as dreadful as the food itself. While I don't expect Chick-fil-A level of politeness, a simple acknowledgment when a customer says "thank you" or greets you would be the bare minimum. The cashier seemed indifferent and lacked even the most basic customer service skills. Now, the food! It was a complete disaster. I ordered a patty melt, and the toast on one side was burnt to a crisp, so bad that I had to throw the whole thing away. The french fries tasted as if they were cooked three years ago and reheated. Additionally, the hotdog was far from what I'd expect in terms of quality, it certainly didn't taste like 100% beef as the website states! I spent $20 on this meal, and it was an absolute waste. Zesto used to be a place I loved, but after this experience, I'm sure I'll never go back.

Google
This was my first time eating here and it was surprisingly good. The fried chicken does need seasoning, but it was very hot,I just added hot sauce and the coleslaw is to die for. I spent 8 dollars with a drink. Will be back soon and I will try something different!

Yelp
5 stars just because this location bring back so many memories. This Zesto's has been around since 1949. Y'all when i say the chicken gizzards and liver will make you slap yo mama (^)o(^) . And the shakes, but mainly the pineapple shake will make you kick yo grandmama‿ . Today and always when I visit, the service has always been great. When you come in, it's like your coming back to a great aunts house for dinner. That good southern hospitality that i love. Everybody come visit Zesto's and tell them I sent you

Yelp
I always meant to visit the Zesto in Little 5 but never did, so I decided to try the location a little but further south before it's sold and turned into condos that few people can afford. I ordered the Fat Boy burger without onions, regular fries and a Heath Bar Artichoke Blast. I went through the drive-thru with an expectation to wait, and the wait didn't feel terribly long. You'll need to be patient with ordering because the person taking my order was not in a hurry. This didn't bother me, but if you're in a hurry, the Burger King across the street might be a better bet. The food was ordinary fast food. The burger tasted old, neither the buns nor the meat patties had not been warmed and were definitely not fresh. The fries were very hot, but unseasoned and I'm guessing the reason I had to wait. The Artic Blast was ice cream deliciousness, and I would come back for this item only. Zesto knows ice cream, baby! I'm glad I finally gave Zesto a try. It's a piece of the Old Atlanta that I greatly miss.

Yelp
Soooo good.. I should have been going here instead of cookout everytime I was in the area. Finished my chubby decker before my boyfriend did.. it's so delicious. Second time going in 3 days.

Yelp
I went in on a Mother's Day,just because it was a nostalgic place for me growing up , so I stopped by. The customer service was great but my food was WRONG !!!! I don't live near the restaurant so I should have checked my food but my order was simple a fish sandwich and I got a gyro instead, very disappointed will not be visiting again!!!

Yelp
Atlanta traffic is wild. How Waze took me from Stone Mountain on I-20 to Marietta through the turn off for Zesto is beyond me, but when I turned off and saw this place on the Food sign, which I have passed by hundreds of times before and never noticed it, I was like, hmm. So I looked it up and I said, okay, let me give this place a try. Not going to lie, parking is terrible, and the building looks older than dirt, and the inside also looked older than dirt, but the smell that hit me when I walked in, and the happy faces of the people that worked there immediately gave me good vibes. The menu was very 1960s, and the photos that told the history of the place throughout the building confirmed that this place has been here for a while. They had all the classics, burgers and fries, custom milkshakes, etc. The only downsides that I could really say was that the food didn't really pack a lot of flavor and was a little cold, but it was very filling and gave me nostalgic feels of going to a Central Park or something. I probably wouldn't get anything from here again, but I am not disappointed that I went and I tried it.

Yelp
Yeah. I don't feel bad about my rating after seeing the average rating. The bread was soggy that I got for the burger it still was good (the meat was juicy and the veggies were fresh. The pita bread was the best part of the meal but it wasn't good. Usually, the sauce has a strong flavor and I don't know what lamb looks like as it's difficult to find gyro made with 100% lamb. The lamb looks dry and processed, if that is a thing. It has to be about forty years since I've been here, the last time I was here I believe Mom or Dad brought me here. A lot has changed now that I've changed my diet, and I can only rate them based on the items I can eat.

Yelp
My wife and I came here for the very first time today on March 31, 2022 around noon (very first visit to a Zesto, ever) and we were pleasantly surprised. Since we were not familiar with the menu we thought we would both try something different than each other. I had the steak burger with a side of fried okra and a coke. The burger was really good, of course it was more of a hamburger/steak patty but it was a decent size and the meat definitely taster better than your average hamburger. The fried okra were large and fried to perfection, not too greasy or overcooked. The coke was pretty flat. My wife had the gyro wrap, that was excellent. The meat was perfect, with tomatoes and Zestos tzatziki sauce, really great flavor. The lady at the drive-thru was not the most pleasant human I have met in my life but she was not downright rude, just impolite. The prices are a little higher than most fast food burger-type joints but the food also tasted better than most. Will return and try other dishes.

Yelp
Used to love this place but is now super suspect. We've stopped by 3 times and each time they told use they were closed. The last time we were there before 7. We'll see the car before us place an order, but will tell us that they're closed

Yelp
Excellent spot to fulfill your hankering for a burger, wings, fish or chicken sandwich. Only three locations left, but if you like old school burger joints, do yourself a favor and dine there. Excellent ice cream cones to top off your dining experience!

Yelp
It is my unfortunate Duty to make people aware that the Zestos in East Atlanta off United Avenue can no longer be trusted to make your orders the way they're supposed to . I have been a fan of this restaurant since I was 5 years old . On Saturday July 15th 2023 I went into this restaurant and I ordered almost $40 worth of take out. I ordered three separate baskets primary of which was a chubby decker basket no tomato . What I got was two two beef patties smeared with condiments and lettuce I don't even recall there was any cheese on the sandwich . A chubby decker is a double decker sandwich that has a slice of bun between the two beef patties similar to a Big Mac . What I got was similar to a Double Quarter Pounder . Not what I ordered . I drove 30 miles round trip in order to be totally disappointed by this location of Zesto's . I will never ever go to that location again simply because all they had to do was to tell me that they didn't have the right kind of buns for my sandwich instead of trying to make something that they were sure would not satisfy me . It was obvious that they did not give a damn whether I was satisfied or not . This is not the first time that there have been issues at this restaurant . On one occasion perhaps in 2020 or 2021 I went there to order my favorite items only to find out that on this particular day there credit card terminal was not working had I not had some cash in my wallet I would have not been able to purchase anything without going to an ATM. That was tolerable . The food at that time was satisfactory . The issues at this store make it impossible for me to stop by and pick up the things I like because I can't ever be confident that what I want will be available or that I will even be able to pay for it without having to make a extra stop . Unfortunately this location is gone to the dogs and it does not deserve your patronage. I received far better service at the sister location on the north side of I-20 on Moreland Avenue . But now that location is closed and Zesto's is dying a slow death . All good things must come to an end and it seems as though the end for the East Atlanta Zestos is at hand .

Ja T.

Yelp
I my order was a milkshake but what I received was a cup of mostly whipped cream Not Good

Ian I.

Yelp
To sum up in three words. Overpriced inedible food. Took a long time for food and then it was cold and with excessive amounts of yellow mustard. A kids corn dog with about 10 fries and a drink was $8.99 Really disappointed
google avatar

Yelp
Zesto is an Atlanta icon that deserves to be appreciated. Unfortunately there are only a few locations still open. Food is pretty good of course. I love their hot wings. Their ice cream is legendary!
google avatar

Joy M.

Yelp
I have enjoyed Zesto for years unfortunately this visit was a bust. Ordered chicken sandwich combo with tots and footlong combo extra footlong. We received fries instead of tots and the chicken sandwich breading was soggy. The cost was $30. Totally not worth it. I understand the circumstances of the times we r in but it was just not good at all.

Yelp
This was my 1st and last time eating here. I ran here on my lunch break being that it is about 3 mins away from my workplace and they messed up my order. Before I noticed, I was already back at work so i called the number on the receipt and stated that my order was wrong and if i could come back after work for a corrected meal and the lady hung up on me. The food is already overpriced and I want a refund for the troubles.

Yelp
I have given this place a few chances. I tried tonight for the last time. The wait time is extensive. I literally waited in line for food for 45 minutes. That's no longer considered fast food. After the wait, I finally got my order and when I got home... disappointment! They literally gave me the wrong food order. I attempted to contact them on both numbers listed on the site and of course no one answered. Money and time wasted once again.
google avatar

Mary W.

Yelp
First time going inside to dine. The counter personnel were great, friendly and quick. Our food was ready very quick and everything measured up greatly for a fast food burger joint. We had ice cream cones afterwards which were huge but delicious. Great experience
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
Stopped for wings recently. Wasn't even sure they had wings on the menu. They were soooo goood! Perfectly cooked much better than other wing spots in the area. I had golden lemon pepper wings. My friend had the best milkshake. She said it tasted like it was made with love. Another friend had the turkey burger which was also awesome!

Joel W.

Yelp
Terrible drive through experience and terrible food. First off, it was extremely slow. Each car waited for literally 10 minutes at the window. When I pulled up they took a few minutes to hand me barely set ice cream dripping over the edges of the cup and, as a result, all over my cup holder. Then I sat there at the window for 10 minutes, as everyone before me had, waiting on a single meal. Once I got home and tasted the food (after cleaning out my car from dripping ice cream), literally everything tasted horrible. Coleslaw: room temperature warm and disgusting. Ice cream: tasted slightly sour and wondering if it was going bad. Fries: soggy (the only thing I ended up eating). Fried fish: extremely bland. Onion rings: terribly dry breading/batter and literally no salt whatsoever. Credit where credit is due: bread roll was actually decent. Not sure if the little five location is better since it seems more popular, but please stay away from this one.

Yelp
My food was fresh and hot. This place is similar to Varsity. It's a burger/dog place. I got the chili slaw dog like I always get everywhere else. The food was fresh, service was on point, and quick drive through. I will be back!! Thanks!

Yelp
I have never been to an infamous zestos location until today. I went to the one on United and Moreland Ave. At first I was in the drive thru line that was very slow, it took about 7-10min for one car to move up and I had about 7-8 cars ahead of me. So I opted to park and go in the restaurant. They were practicing 6ft social distancing and most customers wore a mask. None of the staff wore a mask but all had gloves on and there were plastic shields covering the registers. The restaurant was old but clean so that was nice to see. The lady that took my order was super nice. I got my food within 10min of ordering. I ordered 6 wings lemon pepper flavor and tots. Also, their rocky road swirl soft serve cup and 2piece fried chicken meal that came with crinkle cut fries and coleslaw. All in all, this is a fried fast food joint. There was definitely lots of grease residue from our meal but the chicken had yummy flavor and everything was just the right crispy except for the crinkle cut fries, those were just soft and soggy. Either way, in support of Atlanta history and local establishments, I plan on coming back when I have that craving for fast flavorful greasy goodness:)

Calilove611 ..

Yelp
Seriously to hell with this place like it makes no sense you wait for 1000 years to get your food the staff is rude first time going here and it will definitely be the last if you can't get a basic order correct a chili cheese dog all the way add cheese then we have a problem!!! Actively listening would help and maybe a bit of a reading like damn... I'm sitting I. The drive thru and it takes 3 of y'all to make one hot dog??!! Hell no NEVER again!!!!
google avatar

Kimi M.

Yelp
When it comes to fast food, they have the best fish filet in Atlanta! Their wings are bad either. Good shakes! However, this place could use some serious remodeling, especially the restrooms.
google avatar

Yelp
Been coming here for years the burgers are still delicious the foot long hot dogs are also delicious I also love grabbing a milkshake one of my favorites is chocolate with walnuts so delicious
google avatar

Dan D.

Yelp
I never remembered the onion rings at zestos tasting healthy until now. It's been years since I have visited any zestos locations. I couldn't wait to add to the grease level in my blood Got there at noon on a Thursday and it was not that crowded. The ladies at the counter had awesome customer service and were very nice. The food is cooked to order and I received my burger not and fresh. The onion rings were also fresh but very bland. No salt either. It took about 10 minutes to get our food. The prices were reasonable I would go back but I might try the tater tots next time.
google avatar

Yelp
Please, please, please don't eat here. I wanted a change of pace and decided to check this place out. As I stood in line at the already shady looking lobby in HORROR I watched as a 2 INCH ROACH made his way up the wall over the fryer. NO LIE!!! I high tailed it out that spot faster than u can say 'hee bee, gee bees". The young couple right in front of me sprinted pass me as we both hit the door runnin'. That is the absolute worse thing I can see at a place that I plan to purchase food at. As I sped away I had thoughts of the roach falling into the fryer below and making its way into someones fry order OR onion ring order. I am embarrassed that I didn't do more to save the next customer but I was so traumatize that all I could do was run. I only hope this review will redeem me of my cowardly initial reaction to run. NOTE:: This is the Zestos on Moreland and East Confederate.

Addison E.

Yelp
Extremely slow service. Been here a few times and each time I spent almost 40 minutes waiting to order/receive my food
google avatar

Lisa D.

Yelp
Hands-down the best milkshake I have had in a long time! We were just passing through on our way from Atlanta back to Augusta and stopped at Zesto's for a couple of shakes. I really wish I could move this place to Augusta! I had a peanut butter milkshake and it was perfect. I can't wait for my next trip up Atlanta so I can try another flavor.
google avatar

Nater B.

Yelp
Here's the deal.....UNLESS you get the daily special, you will pay $8.10 for crap fast food. Pretty much a RIP-OFF!! I will never go to this Zesto's again. Had to ask for ice in my ice tea, it was warm!!! The one in L5P was always good, hope it still is, but this one downright sucks! I always got the Fish Sammy, mine from here was a pile of mush, and the fries were tasteless. Hopefully this location goes out of business or gets its $hit together. $8.10 for a FAST FOOD, fish sandwich, fries, and drink??!!! It better be good. It was not!

Yelp
SOFTEE-Serve Ice Cream review: AWESOME. Fantastic flavor, service, atmosphere, price and selection. I love a real-deal place devoid of millenials and hipsters. This is where real Atlantans (non-hipsters) get treats on Sunday, including manpanion and I. I love a chocolate-dipped softee-serve and Zesto dips don't disappoint; although I dislike it's Christian name (brown crown) and refuse to say it aloud. Fantastic people-watching as one rushes to devour the creamy treat before it melts in the summer heat. The Arctic Blast is enormous and is best shared. They have crinkle-cut fries which I can't wait to sample come winter. Love it. A true Atlanta experience.

Jillian O.

Yelp
THE LONGEST DRIVE THROUGH. Every single time. I cannot comprehend why I have to wait in the drive through for 45 mins with only 4 cars in front of me .
google avatar

Robert F.

Yelp
Although I have worked near this location for two years, I had never eaten here. Today I decided to give it a try since so many "Grady Babies" swear that Zestos is an Atlanta staple. I ordered the cheese burger basket. I only have two words; "Not Impressed." The burger was overly greasy and salty. After about 3 bites, I was convinced that it was not going to get any better so I threw the rest away. The fries were no better, but I ate them just to suppress my hunger. Well at least I can say I gave Zestos a try. I will let the locals have it. I guess I just don't have the "acquired taste" needed to stomach Zesto's food.

Joann A.

Yelp
Super delicious burgers and chicken tenders. Burgers were well cooked and bread was crisp and bomb!! They don't over do it on the fries and staff were kind.

Joi R.

Yelp
Terrible. Waited for 30 mins. Once I got to the speaker no one ever came. Never going back here. This place should be shut down. If there were negative stars I would give that. Don't waste your time.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
I have been coming to Zesto's for awhile now and all I can say is AWESOME!! Love the fish sandwich and burgers. I just recently started getting the fried chicken and wings so delicious and as always Artic Swirl is Da Bomb!!!! Zestos keep up the good work and the folks that are hating will hate wherever they go. Yes the drive thru lines are long, but that's because the food is good and folks don't mind waiting for good food. Keep up the good work!!!!!
google avatar

Kay H.

Yelp
It has been years since I have been to Zestos, but I was in Little Five Points with my daughter and needed somewhere to eat that was not smoke filled. The vibe was the same as I remembered. I ordered 6 piece wings and a kids meal grilled cheese. The price was ok at $10.59. This is just in a pinch food with slow service. None of it was tasty but it was enough to get us home without hungry headaches.
google avatar

Amanda R.

Yelp
TERRIBLE customer service. Waited forever to place my order. Employees are just rude. Ordered hot wings. CHICKEN BONES were DARK BROWN. Not ok. At all. Period. I have NO IDEA how this place is still in business. Go further down Moreland to the other Zesto location. Maybe they are better.

Jonni V.

Yelp
I'm not a huge fan of fast food but I've been eating at zestos since I was young. Their fish sandwich is delicious! Service was great and very friendly...

Ericka G.

Yelp
I only come to this location because they have the best mild wings with lemon pepper sprinkle. The customer service is TERRIBLE. You pull up to the drive through "what's your order?" What type of greeting is that? As soon as you order it's "one moment". Five minutes go by and you are yelling at the speaker until they finally decide to answer, then you place your order again and are told to pull up to the window. Now you have the 15 minute wait. Get to the window and it's "what you order?" No, "hi" or any type of greeting. Repeat your order for the third time, then wait an additional 8 minutes. Total time in the drive through 20+ minutes. The killing part is they feel as if you are annoying THEM and not the other way around. I have NEVER had a good experience with this location in regards to customer service. I don't know if it is a family run business or what, but their attitudes are terrible!

Adam D.

Yelp
Preamble: I really like this place, but they make it hard. The only good things, and they are great, are Fried Chicken and Ice cream. Hot wings are pretty good too. The Fried Chicken is THE CRISPIEST EVER, that is awesome. But it is bland. BUT if you dip it in their hot sauce, it is PERFECTLY SEASONED! The bad news, and it is horrible, is that it takes forever. I literally waited 45 minutes last time i went for a box of chicken. I was quoted a 10 minute wait, by a lady that did not GAF. Service is pretty terse, but they warm up to you after a few visits, most of the staff is super sweet. There is always a surly old dude on hand to crush dreams regarding substitutions and other wishlist items. Usually the same dude, but in his absence there is a substitute white-hair grouch to rain on your parade. But when you get that chicken and dip it in the hot sauce, you have the opportunity to be in heaven. supposing that the wait did not ruin your day. Ice cream is on par with DQ, no super magic involved in this no-brainer. Edit: My wife says, and I actually agree, the old guys are pretty nice. They really are cartoonish/endearing type grouchy.

Yelp
I love Zesto, but this one falls short of the others. The footlong is always my favorite Zesto choice, but the chili at this particular location is seasoned with what I'm almost certain is cinnamon. I know that sometimes weird spices can really make a dish, but when I'm splurging I just want the food to taste like it did when I was a kid. The service is slow and rude and if you're really jonesing for Zestos, I recommend a quick trip down Moreland to check out the Little Five Points location.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Service is super sweet just like their Artic Breezes or It's Really Bad Outside Slushees. My friend had a root beer float and boy was he happy. Don't read the bad reviews those people have a stick up their you know whats. Zesto is a delicious, dirty dive with a courteous drive in. So, suck on that haters. (hashtag)ZestosIsTheBestos

Yelp
Slow. So slow. I think I'm officially done giving Zesto's any more of my American dollars.

Yelp
I stopped here for lunch one day b/c I hear that this is an ATL tradition. I had never had it before so I figured i'd give it a try. I was less than impressed when I walked in b/c it looked really old inside. I ordered a shrimp basket and an ice cream cone. It took forever for them to get me my food and then when i did get it there was nothing to make it worth coming back. I'd pass on this. I think if a business really wants to keep a loyal customer base, they should keep the place up to date looking, clean, and also have great service. The one good point here was DEFINITELY the ice cream! The ice cream cone i had here was pretty legendary(and this is what Zesto's is known for). If you simply want ice cream then give it a go...if you want food then pass.

Yelp
Really good Ice cream and shakes, service is a lil slow, but it's because they make everything from scratch, was very impressed with how good their burgers are
