The 38 Best Restaurants in Toronto, Canada | Eater

"This Greek American diner has been situated right outside Toronto Pearson International Airport since 1971, when founder Spyro Sventzouris opened the doors to what was quite literally the only restaurant in the area at that time. Now run by Sventzouris’s grandson Platon, the restaurant remains popular (expect lines but minimal wait times, thanks to swift, efficient, cafeteria-style service). The no-frills, generous portions are humble and honest, the kind of sustenance you want after subsisting on subpar airplane food for a few hours. Even diners not coming off the runway should make a visit to check out the best-selling chicken souvlaki: one pound of chicken skewered and served with the usual suspects like roasted potatoes, rice, Greek salad, a homestyle dinner roll, and tzatziki. Also, try the New York Strip dinner, likely the cheapest steak you’ll find in the city. Know before you go: You’ll find all kinds of characters at Zet’s, which makes for incredible people-watching." - Tiffany Leigh

Ordered the pork souvlaki dinner from Zets through Uber Eats. The meal arrived with bread that had visible mould on it — multiple green and blue spots. Completely inedible and honestly disgusting. We filed a complaint through Uber Eats right away. They said they would get back to us, but we never heard anything from the restaurant for four days. No apology, no follow-up — just silence. This experience really makes you question the integrity and freshness of the other ingredients. If mouldy bread made it into the order, what else is being overlooked in the kitchen? Disappointed and concerned — definitely won’t be ordering again unless there’s serious improvement in quality control and customer service.

Zet’s Restaurant offers a hearty dining experience that blends classic comfort food with generous hospitality—though not without a few hiccups along the way. At first glance, the establishment presents well: clean, orderly, and bustling with energy. However, the front-of-house experience fell short. The individual taking orders was notably curt and lacked the welcoming demeanor one hopes for upon arrival. First impressions matter, and in this case, the introduction felt transactional rather than hospitable. Fortunately, the experience took a turn for the better once the food began to arrive. The kitchen staff clearly know what they’re doing. Portions were impressively large—enough to satisfy even the hungriest traveler—and every dish I sampled was cooked to perfection. The seasoning was balanced and deliberate, elevating even simple offerings to something worth writing home about. Of special note was the baklava cheesecake, a clever fusion of flaky pastry and rich, creamy indulgence. It’s the kind of dessert that lingers in your memory long after the last bite and alone is worth the trip. Prices are more than fair given the portion sizes and quality, making Zet’s a solid choice for diners seeking both value and satisfaction. While the initial service left something to be desired, the warmth and efficiency of the serving staff, combined with the quality of the food, ultimately carried the experience.

Fair prices for the quantity and quality you receive. The grilled chicken is delicious. We prefer chicken over lamb souvlaki. Everything was fresh and tasty. A single souvlaki dinner could be enough for two people. The Greek salad dressing is amazing 🥗

-- Zet’s in Woodbridge is a great place if you’re in the mood for solid, no-fuss comfort food. Part of a long-standing chain that started way back in 1967, Zet’s has been serving up generous portions and friendly vibes for over five decades. Dropped by recently and had Chicken Souvlaki for lunch. The chicken was juicy and well-seasoned, served up with fluffy rice, crispy fries, and a fresh Greek salad on the side. Portions are big, so come hungry. It’s the kind of meal that feels both filling and familiar. The service at Zet’s was warm - staff were attentive and the food came out pretty quickly.  If you're looking for a laid-back meal with good food and friendly folks, it’s a solid pick.

Although my absolute favourite is their pork souvlaki and their burger, some days I want to try something new and their fish sandwich was very tasty. You always get great portion sizes here, very flavourful food, very hearty, and there’s a good space to sit and eat here or it’s perfect to take home or on a picnic. I’ve been going here for a couple of years now and I’m never disappointed, thank you!

I often times catch myself at Zet’s when I am in a rush and need something that can power me through the day, enough cannot be said about how quick, persistent and enjoyable this place is. Zet’s Restaurant is a culinary beacon amid the clamor of its airport-adjacent locale, a place where the relentless pace of a bustling dining room is met with an almost preternatural calm and competence. From the moment you enter, the staff’s command of the environment is striking. The atmosphere hums with the energy of a diverse clientele—travelers, locals, and workers alike—yet the service flows with a precision that belies the chaos. Orders are taken with swift efficiency, dishes dispatched from the kitchen at a tempo that keeps wait times admirably brief, even when every table is claimed and the line stretches toward the door. It’s a testament to a well-oiled operation, one that thrives under pressure without ever letting the guest feel its weight. The chicken dinner, a signature offering, is a triumph of simplicity elevated by execution. The chicken souvlaki arrives glistening, its exterior kissed by the grill to a golden char that promises succulence within—and delivers it in spades. Each skewer yields tender, juicy morsels, seasoned with a deft hand that balances herbaceous brightness with a subtle smokiness. Accompanying it are roasted potatoes, crisp-edged yet fluffy, and a Greek salad vibrant with feta and a dressing that sings of lemon and olive oil. The portion is generous—enough to sate even the heartiest appetite—yet it never feels excessive, a mark of thoughtful composition. Paired with a warm pita and a dollop of tzatziki so creamy it could stand alone, this dish is a masterclass in comfort food that respects its roots while satisfying modern cravings. What sets Zet’s apart, however, is not just the food but the experience woven around it. The staff exude a professionalism that feels genuine rather than performative, greeting regulars by name and newcomers with equal warmth. On my latest visit, a server deftly navigated a packed house to ensure my water glass never emptied, all while managing a dozen other tasks with a smile. This level of customer service—attentive yet unobtrusive—is the kind that lingers in memory, compelling me to return time and again. The environment, too, plays its part: unpretentious yet welcoming, with a diner-like charm that invites you to settle in, even as the bustle of the outside world presses close. I find myself praising Zet’s to anyone who’ll listen—friends, colleagues, even strangers in passing conversation—and the response is invariably the same: glowing affirmations of their own experiences. It’s rare to encounter a place so universally lauded, where the consensus is one of unalloyed positivity. For me, it’s the synergy of great food, stellar service, and an atmosphere that turns a busy dining room into a haven that keeps me coming back. Zet’s doesn’t just feed you; it reminds you why dining out can be a joy, and that alone is worth the pilgrimage.

Amazing and very simple place to be for burgers old fashion meets modern style atmosphere. The employees were very kind and friendly, it was almost closing time and they said don't worry you can still sit and eat, so we were happy to hear that. The lady gave us a heads up that it may be a little noisy if we were okay with that I said not a problem. They have so many different options I'll return for sure to try there calamari dinner.

The fish burger at this restaurant is nothing short of amazing. Perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with flavors that really stand out. It's a must try for anyone craving a unique and delicious twist on the classic burger!

Yelp
I have been craving Zets for soooo long and we haven't had it since 2019 (partly covid, partly distance from home). So when we literally just fell upon it while in Vaughan, we HAD to get in. The portions are as large as I remember and as delicious as I've been dreaming about it. The pork souvlaki dinner (as pictured) was fabulous - juicy pork (though there was some cartilage? Just needed some stronger bites), 6-7 chunks of potato wedges, good amount of salad, so much rice (I forgot to ask for potato sauce on top - but still great without!) and they are NOT stingy on the tzatziki. It even comes with a bun, not needed but I did bring it home. My husband got the club sandwich dinner which he crushed which came with a lot of fries... and my toddler crushed his basic hamburger (his fav). The service is friendly and the food comes out fast - not at the price of freshness or heat. The restaurant is neat and the washrooms were clean... what's there not to love! I shared with friends that I was there and they were so jealous I can't speak for the other meals but you can't go wrong with the pork souvlaki... it's huge so if you aren't a big eater, share it!

Yelp
This is one of your typical Greek diners that serves the usual array of burgers, fish and chips, and grilled Greek dishes. It's a welcome location especially in that it fills the void left by the departure of Mr. Greek across the way. It's conveniently situated in a plaza with a large parking lot. We placed a takeaway order over the phone that included a pork souvlaki dinner; a gyro dinner; and a chicken souvlaki dinner. We all opted for fries for our side dish. Husband went to collect the order and it was ready for him when he arrived. I was happy with the way it was neatly and cleanly packed, no drips or loose boxes. The portions were very generous. It wasn't as hot as it probably would have been had we dined in, but it was still pretty warm. The fries are a little thicker cut than I usually like, but they were still tasty. I should have stuck with the traditional Greek style roast potatoes. The meat was blessedly juicy. This is always the case with the pork as opposed to the chicken. My daughter was happy with her gyro. Both the Greek and Caesar salads were satisfactory. The rice was a bit bland, but rounded out the meals to make sure we were all full. I still prefer the classier comfort of the old Mr. Greek's decor and ambiance, so I still prefer takeaway to dining in here. Having said that, the food quality hits the spot whenever we're in the mood for family style Greek food.

Yelp
Pretty good overall. Got 2 steak dinners for $72 taxes included...cheaper than the Keg. 3.75 overall Big bread roll, decent amount of rice, potatoes and salad and a 10 oz new york strip steak. Steak was ok...it's not the same quality as the Keg but better than somewhere like Master Steaks. I ordered it medium rare and it wasn't over cooked the steak just had no juices! I'd return since the service is very good and friendly with a clean environment. Will probably try the steak sandwich and calamari next time which looked great (saw people sitting near me ordered it) which also comes to about $30.

Yelp
Food was delicious and portions were huge! A casual dinner spot, cafeteria style. It was busy but tables were turned over fairly quickly around 8pm on a Saturday night. The chicken and pork were both well cooked - juicy, tender and flavourful. The halibut was fresh and crispy. Everything was really good and I will definitely come back here again!

Yelp
Used to drive by the Airport location all the time but never had a chance to try it. Was in the 400/Hwy 7 area and noticed there was a location nearby. Dropped by for a late Sunday lunch. It's cafeteria style but the tables turn quick. Order: Cheeseburger, Small Fries, Gravy. The burger was ok, nice juicy 5oz patty with all the fixings but a mediocre bun. The fries were amazing, double fried, crispy on the outside and tender inside. The gravy was good, but a little too thick for me. Overall, a very good experience. I'd love to come back for the Souvlaki some day.

Yelp
It's called the Famous Chicken Souvlaki Dinner for a reason! It's a classic Toronto spot for delicious Greek food. The chicken is always so juicy, rice and potatoes are flavourful, and everything is cooked to perfection. The tzatziki sauce is the chef's kiss on top that marries everything together. The housemade greek dressing on the salad is so good it can turn anyone into a salad lover (like my husband )

Yelp
The excitement my nose experienced as soon as I stepped into Zet's was real! It smells soo good. The service was so fast! Poutine was quite yummy. It's made with shredded cheese - which I prefer - but for you cheese curds fans it might not be your thing. The portions are huge! Can't wait to try the souvlaki.

Yelp
January 29, 2023 - whenever my friends are hanging out with me, they always talk about going back here :'( ............................... Yet they've never taken me here before :/ Lol Anyways, they finally took me here and it didn't disappoint... we ordered two meals for the 3 of us and it was enough. We ordered: Chicken Souvlaki dinner Steak Dinner The bread I didn't eat. Maybe next time I will check if there is pita bread. But the meats were soft and juicy! The staff was nice, lots of seating and it was nice that they had a little shop inside the restaurant. My friend bought a few things.

Yelp
So I came here for a quick lunch. I know that zets has been around forever and as always delivered near the airport. This was my first time at the Woodbridge location. Simple counter takeout options. I ordered the classic chicken souvlaki dinner which was amazing. Good value portion with today's prices at $20 for the meal. Significant amount of chicken with a healthy side of salad and potatoes. The space is extremely clean. the staff are friendly and efficient. I definitely want to come back and try some of the other menu items. I only issue is for quick service. You're looking at 30 to $40 for a lunch and drink

Yelp
Fast service, large portions for the cost and amazing taste!! Came to this location not the airport location today and really enjoyed my meal. This spot is busy and small but I got a seat to sit and eat!

Yelp
Food was delicious. Generous portion. Definitely could request swap of one the rice and potatoes for fries. Everything was fresh and tasted great. Will definitely come back again or do the takeout party trays.

Yelp
They are closed on Mondays. The menu is excellent. Good choices of food. mostly in the Greek style. Excellent salads, very good Shiskabob, love their potatoes. Oh, I almost forgot! I had a hamburger and it was good!

Yelp
We went for a late dinner tonight and food was amazing as always. Service was quick, food was hot, portion size was huge, and the priced was amazing low.....I'm not complaining. Highly recommended!

Yelp
I've only tried their $8 5oz cheeseburger and it was very good. The buns are of low quality but the patty itself was juicy. I look forward to trying their $15 fried calamari next time.

Yelp
For what it is- a Greek restaurant in a predominantly Italian (and lately, Middle-Eastern & Indian) suburb-, and what it costs, Zet's is a gem. Heck, I even contest that it gives several spots on Danforth a strong run these days- sadly, things in Greek Town are nowhere near what they were 15+ years ago.... Portions at Zet's are absolutely gargantuan, almost to a novel extent... does anyone actually eat the bread roll on top of everything else? I love the side salad that comes with the souvlaki, quality dressing/oil/feta used in it, and adore their tzatziki + potatoes. The rice isn't my favourite, which is why I'll often sub it for fries or just all potato, and the meat sometimes can run a bit too dry for my tastes, but generally is very well executed. Ample parking in the lot outside, and tons of seating indoors. Souvlaki dinner is my usual go-to, but everything else I've had has been great as well, from their burger to the gyros, the poutine, hot dog, etc. Best bang for the buck for quality ratio, by far.

Yelp
This is my first visit to this location. I usually go to the classic location by the airport which is always open and the service and food excellent. We got to the Woodbridge Zets on a Sunday at 20:30 starving. The service was friendly and the portions were generous. The food was good and we weren't rushed at all. The location was very clean and all of the tables were thoroughly wiped down. Definitely the place to go to to fed the craving. Tell them that Uncle Carmine sent you.

Pj L.

Yelp
It was fine. Like no need to come here. I got the lamb souvlaki in a pita and it was nothing special. Other places do what they do so much better. It is loud in there. The service was nice but it's way too loud.

Fran C.

Yelp
are incapable of taking orders correctly, I have been going here for years, spent hundreds of dollars. EVERY single time, my order is wrong. I finally got fed up with MULTIPLE mistakes and called in. I was then told TO GO BACK (on my time and my gas of course) to go pick up the burger because they are human and make mistakes( which is absolutely understandable no one is perfect) but after multiple mistakes and aggrevation I except to come pick up AN EIGHT DOLLAR BURGER ON THE HOUSE. The manager at the Woodbridge location was very rude and could not care less. Food is also slapped together in a sloppy manner. Dont bother going here, save your money

Tom S.

Yelp
Best restaurant and the owners excellent thxs to all of them and for having me to work for them
google avatar

Yelp
Not authentic Greek but portions are crazy huge & food is pretty good if you're craving "mr.Greek but better" type food. Got the chicken souvlaki dinner & the rice was probably my favourite part. Potatoes & salad were definitely good, chicken was a tad on the dry side. All in all this is a good place to go to when you want something quick but filling.
google avatar

Yelp
As you would expect from a legendary restaurant from the airport strip, the Chicken Souvlaki Dinner is massive. Would definitely get it again but you need to double up on Tzaziki sauce because one is not enough.

Audrey W.

Yelp
Have been a long time Zet's customer, but second time coming to the Vaughan location. My family and I had take out, pork souvlakia dinner, large poutine, hot dogs and hamburger last night. The food tasted so good I am still thinking of the meal and had to come here today to write a review. Pork was tender, juicy, cooked to perfection had the right amount of lemon sauce on it, rice and potatoes we great Poutine without curds is not the traditional poutine but is by far the best poutine in the city. Hot dogs and hamburgers are always a hit with the kids. Staff was also lovely at this location. Would highly recommend.

Maoreen Rose M.

Yelp
Great customer service on this location. Authentic Greek food choices on their menu. Come here if you're hungry because they give massive serving. There's also a mini greek store where you can buy homemade greek sauces and cheese. The photos are for only one meal we ordered - pork souvlaki dinner.

Yelp
Thank you Zets for being the best. I have been a customer for over ten years. The food is always amazing. The chefs pay attention to every detail the food is always fresh and super delicious. The best Greek in town and the most awesome comfort food. They now have two locations a new one in Woodbridge . The portions are very generous I can never eat it all, but I am always so excited to eat it the next day . You must try Zets , you will never be disappointed. They are now on uber or skip the dishes , I can't wait to order again.

Cindy M.

Yelp
Great service, tasty food and very generous portion. There were two of us and we could have easily shared on kabob platter.

Yelp
Went here on a Sunday afternoon for a late lunch. Their menu isn't too big so you aren't bombarded with too many options, just enough to give you a variety in case you want to switch things up. I ordered the stuffed chicken pita, and my sister got the famous chicken souvlaki platter. Let me tell you, the portion sizes here are HUGE and very well worth their prices. The platter was big enough to feed two people. Everything was tasty, fresh, and made to order. I will say the chicken in my chicken pita was a bit dry, but nothing inedible. They don't skip out on the tzatziki sauce either, which I love. For dessert we had the baklava cheesecake and bueno cake. Baklava cheesecake was my fave out of the two, absolutely delicious and cheesecake was soft! Bueno cake was good, but didn't taste much of the bueno. The cake itself was very moist and sweet. Overall a great experience! Staff was friendly and food was good, would recommend!

Rosa M.

Yelp
This place is NOTHING like the airport location. Bland food, dry tasteless chicken a real disappointment to say the least. i had high expectations as a regular patron of airport location and this place fell flat for me. Will not be going back.
