Türkiye: From the Bazaar to the Vineyard, from the Inn to the Beach, In Pursuit of İzmir’s Delicacies

"I stop at Zeynel Ergin Bakery for the true İzmir classic sandwich made with tangy İzmir tulum cheese and tomatoes tucked into kumru bread — a dough leavened with chickpea flour — which I also like to enjoy with a steaming cup of tea." - The MICHELIN Guide

While visiting from Australia, we popped into this bakery on our 2 last days in Izmir. Each time, we tried different flavoured Boyoz - all of which were tasty! My highlight was the chocolate filled croissant-type pastry which was so full of chocolate and absolutely delicious.

One of the famous gevrek bakeries of izmir, may be the oldest one. They serve gevrek, boyoz and kumru which are really popular in Izmir. Must try…

I tried two Boyoz (one plain and one with spinach filling), and something like a croissant filled with chocolate. The Boyoz were reaaaaally nice and the spinach tastes so fresh, if u are a chocolate lover the croissants are also very full filling (literally). Also the nice weather and the chill atmosphere outside added to the overall good experience:)

I love everything about this business. Their food is delicious, the people are very friendly and helpful even though I don't speak any Turkish, they go out of their way to help me. The place is clean and calm inside with a nice atmosphere. Highly recommend.

If you want to have brunch or afternoon tea/coffee, near the distinguished Kültürpark, there is this an authentic pastry that you should visit! One of the waiters could speak English and help us as the tourists to understand the menu. We ordered Gevrek, Kumru & Boyoz (one with mushroom & one with chocolate). All of them are delicious!!! The atmosphere is really nice too, you can spend time hours with reading books or chatting with your friends/loved ones, especially during the sunny day. They have indoor & outdoor spaces.

Picked up some Kumru and Gevrek here one morning. Freshly made. Probably the best Kumru we've had and the Gevrek is just as good.

Lovely authentic bakery with the freshly baked gevrek. Try the chocolate, mushroom, yoghurt cheese, spinach pastries - all of which are good! Have them with Turkish tea and life is perfect :) parking is a bit tricky, better to come on foot.

They have a crazy amount of fillings options for boyoz, we tried plain and spinach and especially spinach was so fresh and delicious. We also tried a different pastry with chocolate but if you do not crave for an overdose of chocolate, you should go with different options. Overall, it is a nice place for a breakfast.
