"Besides xiao long bao, this busy stall offers an array of Shanghainese food, such as pan fried dumplings, sour and spicy soup. Their pork and chives potstickers are filled to the brim and nicely browned on the bottom." - Michelin Inspector

It was truly a pleasant exploration of good food at the hawker center as I tried out the dumplings after observing a snake long queue right in front of this Zhang Ji Shanghai La Mian Xiao Long Bao. As the queue was too long and I have a time constraint this morning, I managed to take away these dumplings and hoping my taste buds would like these frozen dumplings. True enough, as I boiled these dumplings, they were heavenly succulent with fillings and the skin was just perfectly at the right thickness to hold the fillings up until they were cooked. These must have been prepared by a seasoned chef who is skilful with not only his rolling pin but also adept in squeezing all the well marinated fillings within a small diameter of the dumpling skin at such fine thickness. It is no wonder they were accorded with Michelin Star. Seeing is believing and now I believed why the queue was so long. In fact, despite the long queue. all members in the stall including the owner were expeditiously efficient in their service. Kudos to Zhang Ji Shanghai La Mian Xiao Long Bao, I am in love with the dumplings and ready to experiment the rest of your delicacy soon.

Xiao long bao (小笼包) ($6) - Excellent texture. Soft yet didn’t break easily. Good fillings. Sour and spicy soup (酸辣汤) ($3) - Good. Had a variety of fungi and bamboo shoots.

The best Hong you chao shou 红油抄手 in Singapore. Perfect combination for the sauce and the chili. Personally I prefer steam dumpling 水饺 over the 锅贴。酸辣汤so so. Nothing special. Overall, it worth the time to queue and food is definitely value for money.

Dumplings were pretty delicious. Prices were fair, I would not say cheap though. If ranked, Panfried first, followed by spicy szechuan and then xiao long bao. Xiao Long Bao were pretty normal.

Visit date: 2 Mar 2025 Actual rating: 4.0 Ever since that Chinese stall above Bishan bus interchange shuttered, it hasn't been easy to replace the lost 红油抄手 delicacy! :( Few, if any, dumpling stalls can deliver similar quality, even if they have shifus hailing from the mainland... So I was high in anticipation of this visit to AV hawker centre, as Yahoo gave top marks to this Chinese food stall 😆🤔 The score was quickly determined with an order of xiao long bao (XLB) and wontons in chilli oil (i.e. 抄手). XLB was delicate and tasty enough to rival well known eateries. It wasn't served piping hot, so the experience of bursting soup had been watered (pun?!) down. On the other hand, the chilli dumplings weren't as good! I was taken aback that they weren't the classic wrapped white skinned petite dumplings but huge wontons instead! :( The problem with wontons is the skin is laden with gluten after cooking, so they did turn out very starchy and yucky!! No can do, this isn't the replacement I've been looking high and low for. Looks like #MHTamChiak has to keep searching for this delicacy, which has now entered #ElusiveFoods territory... If you know where to get really good Chinese dumplings, do drop a comment. Much appreciated 👍

For the price of the food, it is definitely a place worth visiting. The 红油抄手is great love the skin and the filling as well. The soup dumplings skin is slightly on the thick side but the pork and soup is flavourful. Queue can be quite long during lunch hours but it moves relatively quickly

Quality and Price point are at the best. I just joined the queue of the people on this stall and did not expect anything. Ordered Szechuan Spicy Wanto , the skin of wanton is correctly done, not too thick. The meat inside also so juicy. I just paid $6.5 for 10 pieces of Wanton. Totally Worth👍

You won’t miss it when you walk into the food market. The queue is always there. Food wise, it’s decent. Noodles are nice considering the price but i think majority of people come for its xiaolongbao. For me that’s ok and i wouldn’t queued for it. Overall speaking, if you don’t have to wait for long, this is definitely an option. But personally the taste doesn’t justify the queue.
