I recently visited ZHANGLIANG MALATANG in Chinatown, and I have to say it was a great dining experience overall. The restaurant was clean, tidy, and well maintained you can tell they take good care of the place. The staff were friendly, helpful, and very patient when explaining how everything works, especially for first-time visitors like me. Their cheerful attitude and quick service made the visit even more enjoyable.
The food itself was very good. I loved the concept where you get to pick exactly what you want to eat you simply grab a big bowl, choose from a wide variety of meats, vegetables, noodles, tofu, seafood, and more, then hand it to the counter for cooking. The pricing is based on weight, at £3.48 per 100 grams, which is quite reasonable considering the quality and freshness of the ingredients. They are also offering a 20% discount until the 31st of November, which makes it even better value for money. Most of the dishes I tried were flavorful and cooked perfectly in their signature spicy and aromatic malatang broth. The broth had just the right balance of heat and depth, and everything soaked up the flavors beautifully. However, the only disappointment for me was the squid it was a bit tasteless and slightly smelly, lacking the freshness and texture I expected. Apart from that, everything else was excellent.
Overall, ZHANGLIANG MALATANG is a must-try spot in Chinatown for anyone who loves customizable, delicious, and authentic Sichuan-style hot pot dishes.
