The 20 Best Restaurants In San Juan, Puerto Rico - San Juan - The Infatuation

"In Puerto Rico, you’ll find a lot of Chinese restaurants serving fried rice and dumplings, alongside carne frita and tostones al ajillo. Zhencha is a magnificent example of this mashup. You can come here for lunch, but the glow from the lanterns and bright, fizzy cocktails makes more sense as a warm-up to a fun night down the bar-packed Calle Cerra—conveniently just a block away. The wisest choice is carne frita with a side of pork fried rice (a pork on pork situation with an impressive refrigerator lifespan). It’s also a great takeout option if you're bedridden from hours of salsa dancing at La Factoria the night before." - adriana silva, tiffany yannetta, mariana trabanino

Food Rundown Tostones Al Ajillo Each one can fit in the palm of a baby’s hand, and it’s piled with heaps of minced garlic. It’s a side that works alongside anything on the entire menu. photo credit: Mariana Trabanino Zhencha Carne Frita With Pork Fried Rice It’s the same kind of juicy, crispy pork chunks you’ll find at any Puerto Rican restaurant. But when combined with their pork fried rice, you get an inexplicable desire to write an acrostic poem for “pork.” photo credit: Mariana Trabanino Pork Dumplings They’re very good pan-fried dumplings with a tangy soy sauce on the side. photo credit: Mariana Trabanino Hong Kong Pan Fried Noodle Thoroughly mix the crispy noodles into the broth so they get silky smooth. Keep it in mind when on the days the weather inexplicably turns and calls for a noodle soup situation. Since it’s so massive, you’ll likely have leftovers for the next day. My family and I have been watching the owner’s, Yanyi, journey through her YouTube and social media for a few years. Since she still lived in Brooklyn. This was a bucket list item for our recent trip to Puerto Rico and I’m so glad we made it happen. The place is stunning. We were greeted upon entering. I did think the pop music was odd for the setting, but that’s their decision and it doesn’t take away from the experience. We were served the wontons with the duck sauce. Delicious and nostalgic. For appetizers we ordered the chicken wings, dumplings and scallion pancakes. All delicious, but the standout was the wings. WOW 🤯 🤩 they reminded me of Korean fried chicken. 10/10! Bubble tea was delicious! We also ordered a guava margarita and the Peynut. My margarita was good, but they did mess up and left out the guava. They offered to fix it, but I decided to leave it as is. The Peynut is a phenomenally curated cocktail. By the description, I have to be honest, it sounded strange. It was so good! 10/10! For entrees we ordered the orange chicken, churrasco, chuleta, imperial ginger chicken and zhencha fried rice. Churrasco was well cooked, the tostones al ajillo were tasty. Orange chicken was yummy. The chuleta was a pretty small portion. It was thin and single. Flavor was good, but keep in mind it’s one. The imperial ginger chicken while it was good, it tasted like a sweet chili sauce. Not very gingery. The Zhencha fried rice was delicious, great to share for the table. Our server, Alejandro, was so so kind and attentive. Hospitality 10/10. Highly recommend checking out Zhencha. We’re so happy to support our girl Yanyi❤️❤️❤️❤️

Highly recommended for any occasion. The staff is very attentive and knows the entire menu. You’ll also meet the owner, who is quite young and did an excellent job describing each beer they offered. I love that it’s a small place because the service feels more personalized for each customer. I would definitely return, and I encourage you not to be influenced by negative comments. Some people complain about everything—they expect full-service restaurant treatment but don’t want to pay the fair price for that level of service and quality. You won’t regret supporting this local business.

My friend wanted to visit this Asian restaurant since it opened last year. The place has a very Asian look to it but the music was way off for an Asian theme setting. Loud Pop music did not match setting. Once seated we were served old wonton chips with one tablespoon of Duck Sauce, and this was served on a teacup dish plate ??? Our server was very polite and I ask for water with lots of ice and I receive a small candle looking glass with about one cup of water in measurement. And my friend ask for gingerale and it was served in an unopened can. The wait was 1/2 an hour but the food was average in taste. I ordered your typical roast pork ( Carne ahumada) It was very tasty but was very unimpressed with portion and price and presentation. I paid 18.50 for what any other chinese restaurant would have charge 9 or 10 bucks with twice the portion. This is not an Asian bistro it is an over price Chinese restaurants. A side of 6 fried plantains with garlic was way over price too! I tried but will not be going back.

My husband and I have been wanting to try this place since she opened up the restaurant and I have to say it was worth the wait, the food was amazing! Everything was great. The scallion pancakes were so delicious. The pork fried rice was great not oily at all so much flavor! The drink were also delicious.

The restaurant is small, beautifully themed, and cozy. Expect to see familiar yet unique dishes that highlight the fusion of Chinese and Puerto Rican cuisine, like tostones con ajo. Portions are generous, so I recommend going with family or friends to share and try different things. The wings were absolutely AMAZING! Yanyi, the owner, is a total sweetheart—wishing her and the team nothing but the best.

This place is a gem that’s not to be missed. From the ambience to the food, this is 10/10. You could immediately tell this is a very well run business with a strong team. Make sure to get the freshly made tostones drizzled in garlic oil, homemade dumplings, and the special wings. Also must try the cocktails!

Beautiful restaurant. Cozy but spacious. Staff super friendly and down to earth. Long discussion over what to order (because everything Looks great) Settled with the pork chop (amazing) And the ginger beef (large portion) And hot sour soup (very good, not just basic) Next time I’d def try the orange chicken (many tables had) and the pork chunks maybe.
