14 Best New Bars to Try in San Francisco Right Now

"Join the disco dance party at Zhuzh, a new bar in Nob Hill from the same team behind Macondry. This time, they ditched the lush plants in favor of a glitter-strewn dance floor, spinning disco balls, and bright neon signs. There are six cocktails on tap, all priced at just $15, at what the owners are calling a “micro club.” The Magic Wand, for example, blends spicy mezcal with blood orange, makrut lime leaf, and serrano chile, while the Genmaicha Matchatini swaps green tea for coffee as a riff on an espresso martini." - Dianne de Guzman, Eater Staff

6 New Restaurant and Bar Openings Across the Bay Area: March 26 | Eater SF

"In Nob Hill the former Soda Popinski’s space has been transformed into Zhuzhi, a pink, disco-ball-strewn micro club focused on powerful drinks, dancing, and glitter-forward nightlife." - Lauren Saria

Welcome to the Disco Dance Party at San Francisco’s Zhuzh, the New Micro Dance Club in Nob Hill | Eater SF

"Tucked into the former Soda Popinski’s space on the trolley car line at 1548 California Street, this new “micro club” from the Macondray team promises a disco dance party when Zhuzh opens on Friday, March 15. I learned that owners Aaron Paul, Jake Roberts, and Eric Passetti stripped the space to the studs and worked with designer Marissa Jade Marsh to create shiny, ground-down cement floors dusted with holographic glitter, a chandelier with seven rotating disco balls, custom floral wallpaper curving into the ceiling, neon flower outlines by Jim Rizzo, and a hand-stenciled hot-pink cheetah-print bathroom. The focus is drinks and dancing rather than food: a streamlined menu of six cocktails all on tap at a $15 flat price includes the Magic Wand (a spicy mezcal margarita with blood orange, makrut lime leaf, and serrano chile), the Genmaicha Matchatini (an espresso-martini–style drink that froths green tea with toasted rice notes), and the Paradise Garage (tropical rum with passionfruit, pineapple, tangerine, and apricot), with seasonal rotations such as a returning Bunny Poison when spring rhubarb arrives; California wine and Bay Area beer are also available, plus a few housemade pickles from Macondray’s kitchen. Seating is limited—a pistachio-green booth with a spinning Lazy Susan for bottle service, 19 bar stools, and four tall café tables—but the centerpiece is the dance floor and DJ booth, where DJs will spin daily on an Italian RCF sound system. Hours will be Monday–Friday 4 p.m.–2 a.m. and Saturday–Sunday 2 p.m.–2 a.m." - Becky Duffett

Google
Amazing local bar/club venue for some really good DJs (all genres of house) to fun karaoke nights (Weds and Sun). Bartenders here are friendly and super nice and the decor/vibe of the place is really special. They curate a really diverse range of nights and rarely a cover, highly recommended. Sound system is top notch.

Google
Zhuzh is an adorable bar with a great vibe. The bartender was super friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome right away. We went on a Sunday—karaoke night—and everyone was having a blast. Unlike the more crowded spots in the Castro, Zhuzh offers a more relaxed atmosphere. If you’re looking for a chill evening with quality drinks at reasonable prices, this is definitely the place for you.

Google
Immaculate vibes. Music was a bit loud. But the vibes, decor, and service were great. So I can't complain. I had a big group, so the tablet were a bit small. But, otherwise, highly recommend if you're ever in the area! There's even a 24/7 donut shop open nearby that is great as well

UPDATE: The DJ changes every night - that’s great to hear! Has potential. The bartenders were pretty cool to me and my date. Decent drinks too. Wasn’t a fan of the music tho. The DJ was playing experimental bathhouse-style music that progressively got louder and clashed with the fun disco theme. Would go back if in the area but wouldn’t go out of my way to patronize it

Google
This place has a lot of potential. Great location, excellent decorations and actually overall a good starter vibe for a place still trying to find its regulars and place in the community. I definitely appreciated the gay disco vibe. What I did not appreciate was being completely ignored by the first two bartenders before the third “begrudgingly” took care of me. I was meeting friends and they had a tab open. After being disrespected by the first two bartenders I honestly didn’t really feel like supporting the establishment but felt obligated to once the third guy felt he could be bothered with me. You won’t last long if you treat paying customers this way- especially the old guy who chuckled while I stood there at the counter being ignored like a complete fool.

Google
Real fun jewel right off Polk and California! The staff there are always so amazing. Our work even had a party there a few months back and it was the best 👌

Google
Incredible cocktails - draft and otherwise - accompanied by exciting DJs both for happy hour and late night! This place is bringing back a much needed vibe (terrible word but), post-pandemic, to the Polk Gulch scene. Well done, and bravo!!!

Google
Zhuzh is actually a queer friendly cocktail bar, not a restaurant. The decor and and ambiance were great! DJ nights on the weekends. We went on a Saturday evening and were pleasantly surprised by the diversity of the patrons. Drinks were delicious, staff courteous. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Really nice spot near polk street! Their matcha martini is EXCELLENT and strong!! Super chill and friendly bartenders, and I love the fun disco decor and vibe.

Yelp
Definitely an upgrade with a bit of class and "Zhuzh". Bringing back the gay scene to Polk Gulch. Now we have options besides Cinch. $10 cocktails, fast services, disco on the 1's and 2's and beautiful faces. You're in for a good time.

Yelp
It's a cute little bar but not a lot of people are there. We came because we saw their matcha latte drink and had to try it. It was SO GOOD. I will say it is very strong which can be a good thing since it would be worth the price but the more I drank it the more I could taste the alcohol so it was a bit difficult to finish at the end. Their pigs in space drink was okay. Also very alcoholic but the rim had a taste that we did not really like. The service here was also good. I would say that if you come here definetly try the matcha drink it is the best.

Yelp
My friend brought me here. As a long time resident in the Castro, I was skeptical. It's insanely chill and the drinks are strong. I also have to give a shoutout to the beautiful bathrooms!!

Yelp
The matchatinis hear are SO DELICIOUS. It tastes like real, japanese green tea (none of that cheap starbucks stuff). If you're looking to bar hop on polk st, stop by to get that drink!

Yelp
Went here on a random Wednesday a few weeks back. The drinks were not great. They tasted like straight up juice. Maybe they're still perfecting their cocktail menu, but hoping they change it up. I think this place has potential tho, there was a Dj and a dance floor. I'm sure it's a bit better on a weekend night.

Yelp
Sister! Can I be honest? The Genmaicha Matchatini (with oat milk) is bomb and reminds me of Japan. The dance floor is so fun! The vibe is so fun! I come here to let loose, hear some tunes, meet the coolest people, in a neighborhood atmosphere! Come. Have. Fun!

Yelp
What a fantastic Wednesday night outing to celebrate our friend Adela's birthday! Our dining experience at Dacha was truly delightful. And now the brand-new mini bar club Zhuzh. It was a shame I didn't capture photos of the drinks, but I started with a vodka soda and later enjoyed the unique matcha-tini, while our friend had the exquisite espresso martini. Meeting the bar's owner was a highlight--he's a great guy, and his dedication to the space is evident. The ambiance was charming, with a live DJ adding to the lively atmosphere. We've been told that weekends are even more exciting here, so we're already looking forward to returning. The blend of a cozy dive bar vibe with a clean, modern aesthetic really won us over.

Yelp
Love this new bar, great vibes and service! Will go back again soon. Hoping more people find out about it.

Yelp
Sexy mini disco dream club. Thank you for creating this space! Glitter dance floor, disco ball bouquet, innovative drinks, and stellar vibes make Zhuzh theeee spot for a night out.

Yelp
Good atmosphere, service, drink selection, music and much more! Definitely going to be a new hotspot for people to be

Yelp
Their signature cocktails are mass produced in a vat and served out of a tap like a beer brewery. We ordered a non signature cocktail, a dirty martini, and we were served a warm glass of vodka with an olive in it. There's no actual bartending being done here, and even the signature cocktails were not enjoyable. The staff and ambiance were fine but the selling point of a cocktail bar are the cocktails.

Yelp
Great new cocktail bar in Nob Hill. The bartenders were really nice and the dancefloor was fun and lively.

Jobylyn P.

Yelp
The ambiance was fun and dancey but I came for the genmaicha and it was boozy and chalky. Like a badly mixed matcha latte. No thanks.
