Montreal’s Best Sports Bars | Eater Montreal

"A no-fuss kind of pub with plenty of hockey on the screens, Ziggy’s gets the job done and is (relatively speaking) kind of a beer-smelling oasis from the bustle of Crescent Street above." - Eater Staff

Oh damn! I just loved this place! I discovered after deciding on a location to meet up with friends for a drink. The name first of all attracted me and once looking at some photos I knew I had to go. It was a fun experience with the great funky decor. They call it a dive bar but for me it’s upscale 😂 because of the sheer joy of sitting in that atmosphere with a nice brew or spirit. What topped up the fun experience was our bartender Cathy who was a joy! Love her! I will definitely return again! 👍😎

Google
Dave was so awesome. Me and my friends will definitely come back. Perfect service and amazing cocktails. If you're looking for an underground dive bar, this is the place to to be.

Google
Great sports pub with low ceilings so feel like you're getting a hug when you walk down the stairs. Dave was my very cool bartender. It's people like him that make pubs great! Lots of ol school Habs & hockey memorabilia. Reasonably priced.

Google
The 1 star reviews are a reach. This place is a classic dive. Dont come here if you want Bar George attention. Its a local favorite and a staple within the area. You get what you see. The drinks and service were normal, nothing out of the ordinary. The bartenders were so friendly. I love this place!!! So cozy.

Google
You walk in and it's a lil dirty, sticky, dank air, which is fine for a pub. We sat down and ordered some shots, and were immediately given the check and the payment terminal basically thrown on the table. Off to a great start, so naturally we didn't tip, and the bartender starts having an absolute MELTDOWN to the entire pub, this goes on for a bit, which was kind of funny since he was basically talking to a wall since nobody was giving a dam about his cries. We then left and will never be back ✌️ Located in a nice neighborhood though, go to the other places instead!

Google
This is the best bar in Montreal and I will happily argue about it. You cannot find a looser, friendlier environment in town. Evelyn and Good Time Dave behind the bar are (f#ckin) beauties. I went to pop in for an hour or so on my last night, and was there till closing. I love this place and hope you will too.

Google
Make sure you don't order drinks from the bar and go sit down at a table, or else the over entitled waitresses will have a meltdown. Was our first and last time there yesterday. Overall, it's a dump. There's much better dives around the area.

Cherissa Quinlin

Google
The only thing great about this place is the service. The smell unfortunately takes over as soon as you walk in. It’s unbearable. 100% would not recommend for health and safety reasons.

Steve J.

Yelp
Great grittier feel amongst the hoi-polli. You'll have an enjoyable time here! Order food from any of a number of nearby places.

Yelp
It has a nice atmosphere. Very friendly staff, as loud as a bar can get. It is located in on Crescent street which is in the middle of downtown, very convenient location if upu are staying in downtown.

Toni C.

Yelp
A fantastic bar. No pretensions. Just great drinks and ambience. Paul is a master act. Watch him pour a pint of Guiness! We had a blast and would highly recommend this spot.

Maeve H.

Yelp
no paulaner on tap. was only woman in there. felt unsafe. bad links. cool decor though

Yelp
Recommend. An easy going dive bar - and the owner Ziggy, is great! There was a wide selection of drinks (beer, wine, and liquor). I ordered the sangria and my husband the Ziggy's branded beer. He really liked the branded beer. I loved the sangria and would definitely get again. They had chips as snacks but otherwise no food was available. The sports memorabilia in the bar was the perfect amount of kitschy.

Yelp
So is the owner of Ziggy's a racist or just an asshole? I arrived just past 1 AM on July 2nd with a twenty in my hand. He declined to serve me without explaining why. I offered to pay with credit or debit. He said no and exclaimed I should leave. So I did.

Aaron H.

Yelp
It's a dive bar. If you want that go. If you're pretentious, STAY AWAY. I enjoyed it, but it's a blue collar bar with no pretentions, so just be aware.

Yelp
You definitely want to stop here for a great time with an awesome staff. The memorabilia on the walls is unbelievable. Not a Montreal fan, but still really cool looking at the stuff. It's all hockey there, you never know who might stop by..... This is what a sports pub should be.

Yelp
On this block of bars and clubs overrun by some of the most douchey patrons, Ziggy's is a god send. Just walking down this street you'll find yourself wondering if you've somehow teleported to the Jersey Shore as many of the characters you'll see on this street behave like typical guidos / guidettes. Ziggy's not only provides a mature place to grab a drink and enjoy the fine company, but their terrace out front provides prime viewing for all the shenanigans that occur on Crescent. Case in point the two patrons next door that got put down hard by the juiced out bouncer as well as the near fight that occurred when a drunk frat boy picked up and downed a pitcher on a neighboring table. Dan was the bartender the night a group of my friends went and he was a great sport, making all the drinks perfectly and ensuring we had a good time. Donna kept us laughing with her bi-polar behavior which had us thinking she was high on something. Ziggy was nice enough to allow us a few more mins to finish up our drinks at the end of the night when they had to close up. Overall the cast and crew at at this little bar provide a perfect environment for a good time in an area where you wouldn't really expect much beyond bar fights and cat fights. Prices are reasonable for the area and if you're not into the rest of the Crescent St scene this is definitely a place to hide out at.

Yelp
I would feel bad giving it one star, but there was a pee smell in the place and so we left after a minute. It's quite a small bar, half-basement, some TVs and there was a soccer game playing.
google avatar

Mina C.

Yelp
My favourite pub in Montreal, on the great Crescent street. Great music, awesome service.

Daniela O.

Yelp
Small place and too crowded with stuff. The place was a small basement. Owner was very rude.
google avatar

Kemi A.

Yelp
Drinks are a bit overpriced for a dive bar. It is a sports bar, so be aware if you're coming here during a game.
google avatar

Bronwyn A.

Yelp
It was the perfect cozy hole in the wall we were looking for on a rainy night. Great service, good drinks. I'm docking a point because I thought it was kinda overpriced for the neighborhood, but maybe they're trying to scare away the college kids? The Habs game was playing, and I would definitely come back for another sporting event. It's cool though, there are televisions very accessibly located for viewing, but it absolutely does not feel in any way like a sports bar. Clean restrooms, friendly clientele, lots of green. Also, very important, a covered patio for smoking. Boom.

Yelp
I like this small, well-placed pub on Crescent Street. The vibe is relaxed and, when weather permits, the terrace is an amazing people-watching vantage point. The bartenders are excellent - Donna was cracking us up, and Patrick is *HOT* and knows how to mix a drink. We were hungry and Patrick helped us order some food, which was tasty and rapidly delivered to the pub. I would have given it 5 stars, but being on Crescent Street means... Crescent Street prices. Still, an awesome place!

Yelp
Stopped in during a walk up Crescent Street. This is a small quiet pub with a bit of a grown up feel. This is the place to come and enjoy a beer and conversation where you can hear each other. Beer is not cheap though, $8 each.

Yelp
Stopped in for just a beer and ended up staying hours. Leanne, our bartender, was friendly and funny! Great conversation with the bar crowd and really cool Canadiens hockey decor throughout the bar. Loved this place!

Stacey R.

Yelp
This is a pub where you can go every day or several times a year, and you will feel equally welcome. Lot of Americans and English speaking natives mix for fun evenings and weekends of watching hockey and pretty much any other sport you can imagine. New Jersey'ites in particular will feel particularly at home - the Jersey Shore is a favorite hangout of many of the bartenders. Dan is in the front bar at night. with Donna in the back. Olga is great fun on Saturdays, and Pat on Sunday nights. Elizabeth is there during the day, and Ziggy himself makes regular appearances! Bernadette is the newest bartender and she is just as fun as the rest! If you want a great place to watch the game, or just to spend a few hours among people who immediately feel like good friends, Ziggy's is the place to go.

Yelp
Horrendous service, smokey, could be a comfy nook. Me and my brother walked in here late one night for a night cap, the place had about 12 other people already there, so not crowded nor empty. We sat up at the bar, and things went downhill from there. My brother ordered a cream ale and I ordered a Knob Creek bourbon on the rocks. The bar tender told my brother he probably wouldn't like the cream ale (??? wtf?) my brother insisted, and the bar tender said "fine. suit yourself" (the beer tasted great, btw... no idea what the bar tender was thinking). Between serving my brother and then serving me, the bar tender went over to a group of his friends on teh other side of the bar, and had shots with them. Finally, the guy came over and told me my bourbon would be 9 bucks... a little steep, but, whatevs, I was in full tourist mode and was simply there to drop a few toonies... so i nodded, no problem. He served it to me in a small shot glass, no ice. I reminded the guy that I'd like it on the rocks... so he poured it over ice and then told me it would be 11 bucks... i asked him indignantly, for the ice? and then he had some difficulty explaining to me something about the size of the glass (and this guy was anglo, so i'm not talking translation problems here)... i kept asking him if it meant he poured MORE bourbon into the glass, and he wouldn't answer me straight - though my brother seemed to think he had topped up my glass since a shot looks a bit short over ice, i guess. not sure what happened, but now me, my brother, and the bar tender were all on very disgruntled terms. obviously we rubbed this guy the wrong way, no idea why, but as soon as we were finished with the drinks, we were out of there faster than you could cry sacre bleu! too bad, cuz the space is cavernous and comfy, could be a really great place to hide form the weather if the service didn't suck so much.

Yelp
Had the most horrible experience just walked in with my friend ordered 2 pints 2 shots a few minutes later a patron knocked our beers flying all on me. The waitress brought a towel so I went to bar reordered, then I got the check. The waitress /manager was charging me full priced no apology nothing. She finaly took one beer off, after much bla bla bla. What a total disappointment. The place is a basement tacky bar and very over priced with bad management.

Yelp
The hidden gem in Montreal.. What ever you need Ziggy and his staff will take care of you with excellent service.. He will make you fill like this is your hometown bar...

Yelp
Stopped in recently while in town for the jazz fest. Ziggy's is a kindof divey sports bar set amongst the clubs and pubs of Crescent Street. Usually stop in to see the awesome bartender B, but she wasn't working Saturday nite, and $8 (plus tip) for a Labatt Blue (seriously?) meant that we were one and done for this trip. Was dead for a Sat nite, but this bar always gets a steady stream of bachelor and bachelorette parties, it seems. Will definitely go back next trip (hopefully to see B), but will probably avoid the $8 domestic beers.

Yelp
Ziggy's is everything a pub should be. The owner is awesome, the decor is great (sports memorabilia), and it's really laid back. I'll be back anytime I'm in Montreal.

Joe W.

Yelp
Great laid back bar! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. If you like sports memorabilia, the decor is first rate. The owner, Ziggy, is awesome. Make some new friends at the jukebox and have a good time.

Yelp
I love Ziggy's Pub. Back in 1997, just after high school, we were in Montreal at 420 Sherbrooke West. livin' life. Everyone wanted to go to a giant club which shall remain nameless except me and my boy. We headed down the road, saw Ziggy's Pub and stumbled in. Good beer, good food, and ashtrays that held cigars. The coolest thing though when you got up, they put a note on your drink that said, "Got up to pee. Don't touch my drink." Coolest souvenir I got that week. I wonder if people remember that or if they still do it?

Mike W.

Yelp
Nasty basement bar with carpet and low ceilings. It smells weird too. It's on a great late night street in Montreal, but don't go in here unless you are looking to drink alone
google avatar

Rob Y.

Yelp
Just a small pub that we hit during our "crawl" Nothing special, but had a real good time drinking german beer!

Jane M.

Yelp
Montreal in general is not very good at pubs - not enough irish in town I reckon. That being said ZIggys isn't bad. Its really a sports bar (lot of memorabilia and what not). Seems to me like a bar that has its locals who frequent it REGULARLY. Good for a beer, or if you get into a conversation a night I suppose.

Greg K.

Yelp
Quaint and comfortable pub. Bernadetta is beautiful and friendly. I'd have gone back tomorrow, but she works only Sunday and Mondays.
google avatar

Jonathan W.

Yelp
Ziggy is that dirty old SOB you can't but hate to love.

Shane G.

Yelp
We are from Chicago and came to Montreal for a bachelor party. After a long night of partying my buddies and I were walking the streets for a good breakfast. Ziggy was outside his pub preparing to open. He asked us what we were looking for and pointed us in the direction of a great breakfast spot. We had to go back and repay the favor and have a beer with Ziggy. He opened the bar before it was officially open and we ended up staying for 10 hours having some of the best laughs of our life. He even gave the bachelor his ow Blackhawks hat. If you are reading this Ziggy we miss ya buddy and thanks for the great time. We will be back!

Justin R.

Yelp
Walked around St. Catherine's looking for a small bar (not the big expensive chain-type) and managed to turn down Crescent on a hunch (If you want bars/dives, go down Crescent!!) Service was OUTSTANDING, had some Polish girl named Bee who knew her drinks and also pointed us in the direction of other good places to go. Drinks were a little pricey but worth it. The atmosphere is chill (me and my friends are all 19) and the place isn't creepy, despite previous reviews. We went a little earlier as we were intent on getting some liquid courage before tackling the town. As I said, drinks were about $5-8 a piece, but along side the calm environment and chill people, worth every penny.

Sean M.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, excellent location, fun bartenders. Celebrated here after the USA beat Germany in the women's world cup and the staff was more than gracious.

Pamela H.

Yelp
Can't say enough about this place! If we had longer to stay we would have stayed all night. It was definitely our kind of place. At the time we were the only ones there but the bartender was great. She was a performer and we enjoyed listening to her stories! This is a place that if you just want to chill out and be laid back go here!! It looks like a great place to go in the winter time as well! We loved it!!
