"Located on the banks of the French Broad River, Zillicoah Brewing Co. offers a limited number of beers with plenty of space for four- and two-legged babies to run and play. Don’t miss the food truck, which serves tacos on handmade tortillas, before taking a seat around the firepit or at a picnic table. Order a farmhouse ale from the splashy bar backed by white-tiled bricks and reclaimed wood." - MATADOR_NETWORK

Google
What a beautiful place to drink beer. It was POURING rain but I still thought it was amazing. The sound of the rain on the tin roof almost enhanced my experience. The beers were good, albeit a little disappointing (I was expecting amazing). But I still would consider the beers well above average, the service was great, and the location was awesome. A brewery I would absolutely come back to next time I’m in town

Google
Great atmosphere. Tons of seating inside and outside. French broad runs right by facility and you can sit outside right by it to enjoy its beauty. Dog friendly. Great beers. Had a farmhouse ale that was delicious and the husband had a barley wine that was great. Food truck and snacks offered at bar. Parking is free and right outside building. If you have a lowered vehicle, watch when coming off road down into parking lot. Little rough.

Google
Such a great, wide open, chill brewery. The outdoor area is HUGE. Would be a great spot to meet a group. Great spot to chill right on the river. The beer is excellent. There is also a food truck on site serving tacos and other Mexican cuisine. Will definitely be back.

Google
First time at Zillicoah. The beer was extremely fresh & tasty. Service was great considering one server & one guy checking people at the gate - id’s & limiting number of people to space capacity. Outdoor seating covered with heaters as well as in door / brewery side seating. Food truck on site all the time. And unique - open top fermentation was happening at this place in one vat - THAT is noteworthy as you rarely see this anywhere in the US. One inside restroom & server was masked up.

Google
This is the holy grail of beer places in Asheville. Only complaint is that you can't get a sample or flight of their tasty beers. Granted every beer is solid, but for the novice, this can be intimidating. And with that said, this place is really for the true beer lovers. Folks that want something unique but in a traditional way. So no crazy combos with PB&J, overly fruited, etc. The mixed culture beers are really interesting if you want funky combos. But solid across the board. Outside there was lots of area to sit and some covered tables as well. Dog friendly - parking and driveway is a bit tricky, especially if you are coming in on a motorcycle.

Google
Place can be easily missed from the road as it's in an old building behind an old factory. Very eclectic and cool! Young budding brewery on the river. Tons of outdoor seating. You can get lucky and catch a food truck there. Place was a little uptight about sales. No bar tabs allowed. 21yo and up allowed. Despite barb wire fence they were still tight with sales of beer. They had someone at the gate but they weren't checking for ID's so it didn't make sense. Very pet friendly so be sure to bring your favorite bud with you. With the river comes mosquitoes so be prepared. Brew selection was so-so but I believe they change the tap on the regular so keep checking out their rotation! Would be even better if you had a full view of the river. As of right now the vines block any tranquility and ambience.

Google
Fantastic industrial setting on the river. Cool place. Food truck. Probably 5 star for most, 4 star for me because my beer faves not featured here. Will definitely be back next time on town.

Will Moreno

Google
Fantastic experience. The beer selections are top-notch. There is an inside, but definitely enjoy the outdoors. The view of the river is amazing. There is also a wood burning fire pit which makes it very cozy. We'd definitely come back. Tonight there is live music!

Yelp
This brewery is located in Woodfin, NC. You can easily drive by it without realizing it. It is located on the busy Elk Mountain Road. You have to drive down to get to the entrance. They do card you at the entrance before the parking lot. There is plenty of parking available. This brewery is close to the French Broad River with outdoor and indoor seating. Leashed dogs are allowed outside and parts of the inside area. There is a wide variety of drinks and not just beer. I usually order the Florida seltzer (Prickly Pear) while my boyfriend enjoys the dry cider. Check their website to see the food truck that is there that day. They have a rotating list. Note: My boyfriend and I tried to enjoy a late afternoon drink there and get some work done, but they do not have public wifi. It is a great place to go for a drink, or two (or more!) and enjoy some time by the river with the dog. We love going every time we visit Asheville.

Nathan T.

Yelp
New to the area from Dallas, TX. This space is gorgeous! Plenty of seating for larger groups. The brewery is sitting right along the river, so you can sit on the picnic tables out back and hear the water. Snag some food from the food truck. Plenty of interior seating as well. Excellent Pilsner here. About 15 different beers on draft. Well worth the time.

Will M.

Yelp
Fantastic experience. The beer selections are top-notch. There is an inside, but definitely enjoy the outdoors. The view of the river is amazing. There is also a wood burning fire pit which makes it very cozy. We'd definitely come back. Tonight there is live music! The bartender was knowledgeable and gave very good suggestions. Overall service grade A.

Ana H.

Yelp
Really cool and huge place with an awesome vibe and view, their staff is very friendly and attentive since you drive in. Their beers are so delicious, I loved them! The options they have there are going to make you mind-blown, so you definitely need to add them to your brewery hopping #checklist What's the cherry on top of this awesome corner? The experience of enjoying a delicious beer or beers with the perfect view of the river, we were lucky enough to have perfect weather that day. Also, if you don't find a spot by the river, they have other tables where Im pretty sure you still are going to be able to have a blast. What did we have? - Kellerspils - Pils - Dunkel - Rauchbier

Forrest E.

Yelp
So many good beers and such a great space by the river!! The food truck was a purveyor of Philippine food delights!!

Hannah H.

Yelp
Zillicoah will always be one of my favorite breweries in Asheville. From the time they opened they cared about one thing, making deliciously fresh craft beers and they've stuck true to that! Their menu is super diverse and includes a ton of options but I always gravitate towards any IPA that they carry. One bonus is that Taqueria Munoz has a permanent food truck on property so you can look at beautiful river views, drink a delicious beer and consume homemade tacos with the BEST tortillas!

James P.

Yelp
Easily my favorite brewery in Asheville, not only do you get the Catwaba river ambiance, you get a taco truck that serves hot fresh delicious food. Those are just the tips of the iceberg when it comes to the beers they brew and serve here. Grabbed some merchandise as well since their gear is pretty dope as well. Customer service was incredible too. Dry humor paired with knowledgeable recommendations makes for a fun time always.

Allison M.

Yelp
Stopped by the other day and was impressed. Had never heard of this gorgeous place before a friend recommended it. A bit odd that a guy stops you before entering the parking lot to check ids but they must have a serious 21+ rule. He was friendly even though our pup went nuts. Love the nature of this place. So great and by the river. Tons of tables- indoors, outside but covered and outside not covered. It was a bit rainy so we opted for the second. Plus dogs could only be outdoors. Not a beer drinker so I was happy to see wines on their menu. They carry fonts flora which is a fav. Got the rose wine and it was a delight. Super nice bartender.

John T.

Yelp
No tasters of beer. What's up with that! I was excited about the place, until I walked in and wanted to taste a beer before I bought a pint.

Stephen C.

Yelp
It appears to be an all adults venue. There is security at the gate. Fortunately my grey hair qualified me without a second glance. The location couldn't be nicer, on the banks of the French Broad with picnic tables and hammocks in the open. As well, there are outdoor tables under a roof and indoor space too. The beer is outstanding. I had a Safir Pils and a Smoked Maibock. You won't find either elsewhere. At least I haven't. My wife drinks wine and the pours are to the top. I do like that several beers come in 16 ounce tall mugs. Everything you need to know about drinks is on the chalkboard where you place your order. Taqueria Muñoz is out back. The food is very reasonable and quite good. And .... The restrooms appear clean and well maintained.

Mike R.

Yelp
Great beer selection for everyone taste even non-alcohol beer drinker, and a river! No one under 21 allowed except on Sundays. Ya, we liked that. : ) The food truck outside......well that was a train wreck. They give everyone wireless buzzers (but didn't tell you they really don't work they just have a small digital number on them) and a young guy walks aimlessly around the property carrying food (or no food) from table to table to table. We ordered pork tacos, 40 minutes later I finally walked up to asked and "oh, we're out of pork, what do you want?"...and we started this food journey anew. What we finally got was really good.

Rod D.

Yelp
Great spot, plenty of room inside or out. Peaceful views of the French Broad River. Most important, excellent brews! Taqueria food truck is also reasonably priced and offers tasty selections.

Vin G.

Yelp
Quiet brewery tucked away in an industrial area. Very quiet. Good beer selection. Food truck outside provided some tasty Mexican food.

Blake R.

Yelp
Honestly pretty weird. We went here after a friend suggested we go for some delicious beers after poking around the river district. They make a pretty big deal about carding you at the entrance of the parking lot, so absolutely no kids allowed. This is pretty cool at first, since I've complained about how many kids are at other breweries, but it does kinda leave the place feeling lifeless. We went on a sort of post-70s gray day, but there's no music playing, it's pretty huge and spread out, and it's VERY industrial. This place kinda harkens back to some old school breweries in the industrial parts of every town. The beers were interesting and good - I got a Scuppernong Saison that was nice and definitely had a nice hint of them. But overall the whole place just feels pretty unwelcoming. The no-kids thing, the desolate outdoor space, the pretty uninspiring and undeveloped river view...just left us feeling weird. They also don't do samples, which is understandable I guess, but...who doesn't do samples of even one beer? It's just a given. We had one beer and got the heck out of Dodge. You won't miss much if you don't swing by here.

Stephanie J.

Yelp
I checked out Zillicoah again on this most recent trip to Asheville and had a much better experience. My friends and I grabbed two rounds (I chose an IPA) and the food truck. Taqueria Munoz is their resident food truck provider. I wasn't huge on the food truck but the beer was good. I also really like the outdoor space here since it's right by the river.

Kelly M.

Yelp
Best Czech dark beer we've had since Prague. Nice, low-key beer garden by the river. There was a Filipino bbq truck there that was also yummy. Great way to wrap up our visit to Asheville.

Kristen F.

Yelp
This was our first time here and this may be one of my new favorites! They have perfected their sours and I couldn't try anything else because I loved them so much. They have crowlers to go, and if we had more room in our cooler we would have gotten many more. Each road trip will now include here. I cannot recommend this place enough! Covid wise - Everything looked great, spaced out, cleaning stations, all staff wearing masks correctly.

Lan S.

Yelp
Recommendation for a sunny fall afternoon: Zillicoah Beer Company on River Road (not far from UNC-A). They have a lovely location on the French Broad River, with lots of picnic tables, both covered and in the sun. Nice selection of beers brewed on-site, at reasonable prices (around $5 for a pint). Taqueria Muñoz in West Asheville has a food truck parked there every day, with good tacos (try the very spicy cactus taco!) Sunday is family day, open to everyone; other days 21+ only. There's a guy at the gate who checks IDs. Dogs welcome. We were there yesterday afternoon, and it was great. Lots of people, mostly locals.

Jeff N.

Yelp
Zillicoah I had heard about the first time I made my way to Asheville to visit the breweries. Because I was without car and trying to avoid using Uber too many times, I kept my initial tour of the breweries to the downtown area... until this second trip, which found me with my girlfriend's car and a desire to check out what more than one person had been raving since they opened. They are a gem. Located in Woodfin, about a 10 minute drive from downtown Asheville, Zillicoah is housed in a large warehouse with an open bay area and a vast back yard. With the amount of space it houses, the brewery can easily host a handful of private parties and small festival at the same time for any time of the year... even when it snows. The outdoor area for Zillicoah has a very bucolic vibe -- down to earth, welcoming, and quiet, depending on where you are located. The property and grounds is great if you want to order a beer and hang out with some friends at one of the nearby picnic tables, take pictures next to the large R2-D2 sculpture, or walk along the French Broad River. Because this became the final brewery stop of our adventurous weekend getaway in Western North Carolina, I only managed to order a blackberry sour. The beer was quite class and lovely, delightful to drink and enjoy while enjoying the surroundings with my lady. I didn't buy any bottles or cans from this brewery, but only due to the fact we had filled our cooler to the breaking point and couldn't fit anything else in it if we tried. So unfortunately, I had to pass this time around until we return again. Asheville and the surrounding area consists of many terrific breweries producing some of the best beer east of the Mississippi River. Zillicoah is no exception with a great taproom and production facility to enjoy some suds and good times.

Jimmy K.

Yelp
Great place for a beer on our way back to where we were staying. We had a picnic table right by the water and really enjoyed the weather. Great variety of options. The pilsner and smoked Helles were fantastic. I would go back.

Lisa S.

Yelp
Great spot on the river. Love that it's no kids, except in Sunday's. But the beer just wasn't good. All 4 of us got different beers and we could barely finish them.

Amy A.

Yelp
Cool pace if you don't have kids! They also check your ID at upon parking. Not a big indoor space so plan to visit on a nice day. Fire pit, hammock, and picnic tables along the River. Great view. Not a great variety of IPAs.

Abby E.

Yelp
Stopped here on our way in to Asheville for the week for a bite to eat & beer! It's an awesome atmosphere with lots of picnic tables spread out along the river side. Also has plenty of tables closer to where you order drinks from, with heaters outside in that area (it's still a bit chilly out, but felt nice to sit in the sun with a coat on). Super dog friendly - can bring your dog, just keep on a leash. Was nice having the room between tables to give dogs a little space. Had dog bowls you could fill with water if you forgot one at home (we brought our own & just filled it up there). Food - mexican food truck. Got the sopas & tacos, both were pretty good. Not the best I've ever had but definitely a good deal for high quality food, & came out pretty quickly. Parking - there was an attendant that greeted us when we drove in, checked our IDs, and told us where to park. Plenty of on site parking. Liked the idea of an attendant because if they were approaching/at capacity, they just had you wait until someone else left, rather than having you come wait / stand outside. Beer - great! I had the sour beer they had on tap, and it was awesome. Very light & refreshing, went down easily. COVID - everyone wears masks when you're up and about, but can take it off when you're seated at your table. Felt like the distancing was appropriate. TLDR - great atmosphere, can only imagine how beautiful it is on a warmer summer day! Will definitely be back!

Susan H.

Yelp
5 stars for view alone. Lovely outdoor brewery with great beers on tap. Perfect place for catching a beer after work and unwinding. Very dog friendly so feel free to bring the pup. There's also a pretty good food truck that comes in, so you can catch I bite to eat with your beer. We got the Austrian Gold Lager and Nelson IPA, which were really good.

Taylor B.

Yelp
This is more catered to those who drink light beer, and if you are, this is a great choice! Rye lagers aren't very common, so I ordered that and was very pleased! Large indoor and outdoor areas. Dogs are allowed outside only.

Candi M.

Yelp
Zillicoah offers tons of outdoor seating which is perfect during COVID. They specialize in farmhouse beers and these are delicious, effervescent, and tasty! Pick any of the farmhouse styles from the chalkboard and you cannot go wrong. They also have a Mexican food truck there permanently. I 100% recommend the pastor sopes!!!!

Sam H.

Yelp
Hmm, they have good beer but they don't let any kids in (maybe on sundays) but not any other day. We had a one month old with us and they turned us down at the gate. The receptionist with the Dolly Parton shirt was rude and cold. I won't be back.

Mike P.

Yelp
Zillicoah is in a really great location beside the river with a lot of room to spread out and enjoy the sights and sounds. Both times I was there featured some reggae music, which was sort of a nice touch. The place is very chill...oh, and there's kind of a built in taco truck. When you pair all of that with some solid brews, especially the sours, you've got a win. Nice place, but I do wish you could open and try some of the beer only sold in growlers on sight.

Tammy P.

Yelp
The atmosphere was nice and the taco truck is good but the bartenders ruined this experience. It's so easy to be pleasant, I'm not even asking for friendly but when I say hello and you basically grunt back at me that does not make me want to give you a tip or come back. I'm a bartender so I know service and this was just not a good vibe.

Brett W.

Yelp
Just had a couple beers with the wife one cool weeknight on the way home from Asheville. Enjoyed the warmth of the firepit outside.

David H.

Yelp
Here's the problem. Situated on the French Broad with so much possibility yet owners never considered creating a beautiful setting for the picnic tables on the river. It would be so easy just add topsoil and fescue seed and voila a truly lush green grassy beautiful location yet no - just unkempt dirt. Second, they need to limb up and remove the brush and debris blocking the river's edge view. Do those 2 things and people will remember Zillicoah and want to return. Right now, no. Last point, the ladies in the food truck are absolutely the rudest people. No words are spoken and no eye contact is made. Food sits out while you flag them down to give it to you as they ignore. Then no LOLLLLL after begging I received one napkin for two people. Shame!

Jeremy M.

Yelp
Amazing spot to grab a beer overlooking the river. As of November 2020, they are only doing outdoor seating. They have a huge space with picnic tables scattered about so you'll find a spot fairly easily. They also had a fire pit going if you are lucky enough to be able to snag a spot to stay warm. This will be a great spot on a warm day to get outside for a beer. They also have a permanent taco truck on-site if you need to grab some food.

Kate B.

Yelp
Focused on lagers and ales but have other beers on tap or by the bottle. Makes for a delightful day drinking spot with a dedicated food truck with tasty Mexican food. Lots of space to spread out with picnic tables near the river. Staff all super informative and friendly. Great spot to bring a dog because you can get a little space from other folks. I love kids but appreciated the no kids policy with the drop off to the river right there.

Andrew H.

Yelp
One of the bigger mistakes of my life. Get carded, at 49, in the driveway just to park, then the wait for beer is a beer line in the sun for 30+ minutes. One employee. Saw no one else other than the female bartender who also has to wash glasses in addition to take orders.

Miranda Z.

Yelp
The good stuff: The beers we tried were tasty! They are served in different glasses depending on the variety you order. A nice touch. The weather was a bit dreary and chilly but the location of this brewery is great. It's on a river. Come check it out on a sunny day and you won't regret it. The meh stuff: Covid-19: They enforce the capacity limit by not even letting cars park if there's too many people on site. They have lots of outdoor seating with for groups, but if you want to sit inside they only have small tables with 2 seats at each. There was a woman who works there walking around to customers inside at their table reminding folks that if they are not actively taking a sip of their beer or eating then they must have their mask on. If you want to talk with the folks at your table between bites you've got to mask up. NC State Mandate. Although I'm sure she's not wrong, she is one of the strictest enforcers I've come across.

Jillian T.

Yelp
Fun, relaxed environment with a great outdoor space. The beers are excellent and it's very dog friendly. Everything you'd want at a venue like this.

Julie M.

Yelp
Step back from the brewery zoo that is Burial and Friends. Come here and find plenty of parking, quiet outside seating next to the river, and great beers. Plus, a Mexican food truck with awesome eats. As I get older, I'm learning to eliminate stress in my life. This establishment is definitely stress free

Robin H.

Yelp
The food truck is a must here !! Fresh and delicious. Try it out. Lots of open area to hang out for all age groups but no kids except on Sundays.

Jackie W.

Yelp
I came here with a group of 20 people to hang out on Saturday afternoon. The brewery and the surrounding area was incredibly spacious. We played KanJam and Spikeball for an entire afternoon. I really enjoyed the following beers: - lime basil sour - IPA - corn lager There's a Mexican food truck which was amazing to have close by. I would definitely recommend having your next BBQ or picnic or birthday event here as there is so much room.

Tracie P.

Yelp
Zillacoah is a small brewery near Asheville's downtown. They have a great variety of light, refreshing beers and an expansive outdoor patio area by the river for seating. There's always a Mexican food truck here serving delicious street tacos. This is a fun stop on your way to or from downtown and another excellent addition to the Asheville brewing scene.

Carlin G.

Yelp
I found this brewery after searching on yelp for a place to grab a few beers near my air bnb. This place just had their official opening after a long soft opening. Finding the warehouse down by the river was a little tricky. The sign looks like any other industrial sign so be on the lookout for their logo. Upon walking in, I felt like this is a great place to hang with friends at one of the many picnic tables. We took a seat at the bar and were given a menu of beers on tap. I saw on Facebook that they had small batch sours and I'm a sucker for sours. The bartender/co-owner of the place took our order and promptly brought us our beers. He was very attentive and taught us a few things about their brewing style. We tasted almost every beer. Side note: I am no beer expert, as this town is littered with. If you like sours at all, do yourself a favor and try the blackberry farmhouse and the lime basil sour. Both were incredible!! If you like something darker and smooth, try the breakfast porter, English ale and Rauchbier. The Rauchbier tastes like a warm campfire night and the English ale is like something I've never had before. Now the Pilsner, I have never ordered a Pilsner at a brewery before but this one is special. It's so refreshing and light yet has a unique taste for the light beer drinkers. This is a must try. All in all, I wish these guys good luck because they brew some damn good beers!

Carlos F.

Yelp
Great Beer, Wine, Ciders, Atmosphere (directly on French Broad River), and Food. Plenty and easy parking. Dog Friendly. Glad they chose Taqueria Munoz as their permanent food truck. One of the best authentic Mexican restaurants in Asheville. Large selection of Beer brewed on-site. Unfortunately, they did not have a dark beer, but the amber they recommended was great. They also had plenty of drinks for non-beer people. Will definitely go again!

Kenny R.

Yelp
I'll keep this quick. I came here last year, before it officially opened and had a few beers. I got to talk to some owners, get to see the property as well as just chill at a brewery with some actual room. Beers were good, location has a lot of potential, and all the staff were super friendly. Wish I could tell you more about the beers, but had a buddy buying them for me and didn't hear/read the descriptions. Check it out! I'll be back and hopefully give a better update/review.

Adrianne C.

Yelp
The review that sealed it for me mentioned fulfilling a dream of living in a van down by the river. We weren't staying too far from this location and stopped in early evening. We sampled a few beers, decided on a winner, and grabbed a seat in some lawn chairs, you guessed it, down by the river. The fireflies were starting to buzz and the river was flowing, creating a V. picturesque setting...until it started to rain. We retreated to the covered patio, ordered some delicious quesadillas from the food truck, and had another beer. They had a sour that was refreshing but not too sour and I'm pretty sure this was the moment in time where I became a fan of sour beers. The place was full of locals and their kids, playing on the toy cars or running around in the field adjacent to the patio. It was a very cool, laid back vibe and if I lived in Asheville, I would definitely frequent this place.

Brett K.

Yelp
Unfortunately we didn't even get to try the beer here, as we were told to leave as soon as we found our family members' table whom we were meeting there. Upon entry to the outdoor area there is a board with rules that neglected to include the fact that they do not allow children or babies. My husband and I drove an hour and a half to visit with our family here but we were glad to leave when a staff member informed us that we needed to vacate the premises since we had our child in tow. When we pointed out all the other families attempting to enjoy their day, she made her rounds and demanded that every other family with children leave as well. We were looking forward to a nice day of brews by the river with family but happy to report that we won't waste our time here again. Be aware that this is not a family friendly establishment.

L. L.

Yelp
Amazing place with River views! Super chill. Grabbed a picnic table by the river to chill for a few hours. A nice spot off the beaten path of the main brewery scene in Asheville. Definitely recommend!

Keri A.

Yelp
I don't even want to give them 1 star. The worst brewery I've ever been to. Absolutely horrible service . Bartender was horribly rude. Uneasy atmosphere, and definitely not kid friendly. Never EVER come here . Average beer too . don't come here

Steve S.

Yelp
These folks are open, with single-ordering (no tabs), no cash, and outdoor seating only. Good beer selection - I always find something I like. Parking can be a pain, as there are always a lot of people there. Overall, if you are trying to avoid South Slope, this is a great place to begin.

Carlos C.

Yelp
Great beer overlooking the river! The taco truck is amazing. I always order the carnitas tacos! Great IPAs and lagers!!!

Micah N.

Yelp
Zillicoah is our favorite spot for a low-key date night. Great beer, nice calm atmosphere, and the best taco truck in Asheville (Taqueria Munoz) in the back. The service is fast for a brewery and the "warehouse" space means that there's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating available. In terms of beer, I'd really recommend the Helles and the wheat IPA. Taqueria Munoz has an ample selection of tacos, enchiladas, and more. We prefer the tongue, steak, and almpastor tacos.
