"Located in the center of town, Zillie’s is Ocracoke’s go-to place for wine. Order from the list of wines by the glass or beers on tap, or peruse the shockingly extensive retail offerings (for an island). It also has a selection of crackers, spreads, cheeses, meats, and other snacks for a build-you-own-charcuterie situation. On summer nights, the porch at Zillie’s is the place to be, with locals and visitors gathering for a drink before heading off to dinner nearby." - Matt Lardie

This shop is amazing!! Great place to stop by for an afternoon beer or glass of wine. They LOVE having dogs. They even gave our dog a full Bowl of water. Hundred of wines, lots of beers on tap, and I even saw they have some delta 8 gummies if that’s your thing. But the best was that they had dill pickle chips!!

Gourmet Grasshopper

Google
Groovy bar with outdoor seating. A cozy spot for alcoholic beverages. Nice selection of cold drinks and some stuff to take back home. Occasional wine tastings. Stemware and all the bartender essentials in one cool space. First time and they were helpful and knowledgeable. Will return.

Google
Great place to hang out and shoot the breeze on the front porch with both locals and visitors. Beer, wine, snacks and gifts available

I have been a die hard for Zillie's, especially through Dorian and always have made it a point to pour love and money on them when visiting. We came to the island for the run and took our family and friends (12 of us) to spend $ at their business. The unhinged aggressive behavior, from a women seemingly owner, in a Zillie's sweatshirt solidified that we won't be back. We are understanding of a no food policy even if we don't agree, your house : your rules. We brought pizzas and were told the kids couldn't even eat it in the yard, so we put the kids in the car to eat their pizza. But then, she approached our table and across all our group, isolated our MIL and said "your face looks like you have something to say to me" we were SHOCKED. Not only was she not even looking at this women, the confrontation was wild. She didn't stop there, she then came back and told our friend to get rid of her water bottle and made her put it under the table! We then asked for water from the bar and they said we could buy it $2. When we were leaving a friend in the group as her politely if she could speak to her in regards to the treatment of our SWEET MIL, she put a finger in her face and said ' give me a minute' and literally crawled under a bench to avoid speaking. I am NOT one to write bad reviews. We were so proud to take our people to Zillie's and now we will never be back. I spent some time reading other reviews this morning and definitely now see that this is common behavior. Kindness and grace goes so far, if this is the owner: you need to zoom out, take a breath and really think about the way you are treating people that are spending their hard earned money to support your small business. peace and blessings.

Google
Wish I could leave 0 stars. I don’t know who “Ray” is but he was incredibly rude and unprofessional. He acted as though I was an inconvenience as a costumer. Would absolutely NOT recommend. If you’re looking for a nice place to have a beer I’d look at 1718- small brewery but super cute

Google
Such a great spot to enjoy a beer or glass of wine!! Outside seating is perfect. Lots of variety. I love that they also offer great snacks to pair with your drink!!! Excellent service and a wonderful spot for a quick day drink!

Google
We bought the Wine Tasting tonight for $35 each. We've been to wine tastings around the world. Zillies tasting was a terrible experience. They keep the store open for all customers so you can't hear about the wines, there is hardly any place to sit during the tasting, the wine tasting is an expensive venue to sample a few wines and extremely small food parings. Not worth the money or time.

Google
A quaint New England style sundry shop. They have several coolers with single beers and wine options. In addition it's like a country store with a little of this and a little of that. Stop in pick a beer and sit on the covered porch and just enjoy.

David J.

Yelp
This is the coolest place! Seating indoor at bar and outdoor on a clean and delightful deck... draft beer and a cooler full of beer and cider options. Fun and quirky gifts. Definitely a "must go" when in Ocracoke.

Ashley B.

Yelp
Nice little spot to get a quick drink and stop for a break on a hot day. They have a surprisingly broad selection of drink options available, and the staff are really friendly. Outdoor space is spacious and great to sit for a bit, or you can take shelter from the heat indoors and sit at their bar. Also dog friendly on the patio, which is always fun!

Yelp
Today, my wife and I went to relax out on the porch at Zillie's, have a beer, and spend some some quality time with our son. Today is his 8th birthday. We've been carting around the island and wanted to cool off, so we brought our Yeti water bottles filled with ice water. It also happens to be the only thing my son drinks because he has Autism and is food/fluid restrictive. When we got to the porch, the woman working told us we needed to put our water bottles in our golf cart. Albeit it frustrating, we complied. I went inside and said, "Since we had to put our water bottles away, do you have any free water we could drink?" The woman relayed we could either purchase bottled water from the store fridge or dump our ice water and fill them with water from the bathroom sink. Neither was an option for us, so we left. I was stunned by this type of customer service. Having come here for more than a decade and spending more money than I could guess, I won't be returning.

Yelp
You won't find a better selection of items on the menu here and a great rotation of beers. The wine selection covers all of the bases, even if the cost is about 50% more than you'll find anywhere else on the island. The staff are attentive if a bit confused and naive. With a generosity of spirit, they are likely to be confused about what's on tap. They don't know one wine from another but friendly. Nice enough. The beers here are also 25% more than at the local brewery who makes them, so if you are in a budget you might just head over to 1718. Even the figgy items are more expensive than at the Variety Store. They even over-charge for a sticker that should be given away or cheap to advertise their store. Finally, just be warned that they do not like cats here, and while there are no signs prohibiting pets, don't be fooled and just don't bring you kittens; that's when the staff show their teeth through Cheshire grins and give you the cold should and the bum's rush. In conclusion, if you're looking for a one stop party shop, and price is not a concern, and you have an unlimited budget, then Zillie's is your place! Stop by -- but bring your wallet! And curiously the owner has made up a story that I am totally unfamiliar with. He must have me confused with someone. Anyway he seems awfully engaged -- obsessed -- with social media. Maybe if he paid more attention to his business rather than bullying his customers on Yelp. I do feel for him -- it is very hard to deal with finding good staff who are knowledgeable about cuisine. And inflation is through the roof, but with $30,000 in government PPP pandemic cash, this business should be faring well.

Yelp
On the island for a week and visited this spot 4 times. Great craft beer and wine to take home or enjoy on the cozy deck by the fire pit. One thing I loved about visiting Ocracoke, particularly this time of year, and Zillie's was the fact that it feels real...not like a basic tourist trap. The bartender our first night was friendly as were all the locals (shout out to Shannon and Benny!) who regaled us with stories about Ocracoke past and present. The experience the first night brought me back and I about broke the bank because they also have a ton of cute gifts and other goods. If you ever have the good fortune to visit, you gotta stop by. Hey, maybe one day I'll own it if they'll sell it...loved it that much! But be sure to check the hours as they are subject to change...you're on island time.

Chris W.

Yelp
Great little shop. Didn't eat there but got some beverages and a jar of the local fig preserves which was fantastic!

Yelp
Your Amazing Wine and beer destination on Ocracoke island. Special shout out to the staff,! You people are really what hospitality is all about. Special shout out to local Anne you weren't lying. It's a gem!

Andrew D.

Yelp
This is our nightly happy hour when we are staying on Ocracoke. The owners and staff are super friendly and, like the rest of the island, it feels like your own neighborhood bar, even if you're just a tourist. * Blanche de Bruxelles on draft (we did a blind Belgian Wit beer tasting in Brussels a few years back and it came in second place out of more than a dozen beers) * This amazing Left-Hand Brewing company Peanut Butter Milk Stout - it sounds so stupid but it's an amazing beer. * Nice wines by the glass including a Sokol Blosser Pinot Gris. We also got a great smoked fish dip with some crackers, though the food is mostly DIY (they will give you a knife and cutting board). The one thing I will add is that if you buy anything but draft beer or by-the-glass wine you will likely find the prices usurious.

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
Loved this place and now making it a tradition to come every year! Great selection of beer and wine. Loved the option to create our own charcuterie board. The atmosphere was amazing and the staff was very welcoming!

Morgan A.

Yelp
Great experience! I am not a beer drinker but we did purchase some merchandise. We relaxed on the patio for a while with my dog, it was super peaceful and we loved it. It is definitely a great spot if you want to get a drink during the day.

Liz M.

Yelp
Cute shop! Very nice wine and beer options, plus lots of snacks and decorative items. Great place to spend a lazy afternoon!

Patricia D.

Yelp
Cute little place where you can find wines, champagne and beer. Then check out the crackers, cheeses and other goodies to accompany your selection. Once your "picnic" is pulled head outside to the covered porch to enjoy, linger and people watch.

Jon L.

Yelp
Island time means Zillie time! A great place to relax on the porch and enjoy the weather and a cold beverage. Pedal over on the Back Road, it's easy to find, just across from the Crews Inn B&B. They have something for everyone and today it was the Duck-Rabbit Amber Ale... ahhh yes!

Em B.

Yelp
Zillie's has always been a family favorite! It's a different vibe than the rest of the island, but just as good a one. It's the best way to end the day, when you can have a bit of wine and cheese on the porch and just read. They have a high quality selection of wine and beer and even cheese and crackers to pair with your drinks! If you're looking for more than bud light, stop in to Zillie's and get something worth drinking!

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
Adorable spot with the best selection of beer, wine, meats & cheeses! Purchase to go or hang out with a glass on the porch.

Chelsea W.

Yelp
Quirky and cute, Zillie's is an awesome place to stop to enjoy a nice brew or wine out on their patio. Or, to pick up some libations to go. The selection was unique and offered a wide variety from distributors near and far. It was surprising to see our New England favorite, Narragansett on an island in North Carolina! A nice touch of home while being on vacation. The patio is spaced appropriately for social distancing and is very comfortable to stop and relax after exploring Ocracoke all day.

Anna C.

Yelp
A cool place to enjoy a drink with friends. They have outside seating and about 4-5 spaces at a bar inside. They have a great selection of beers, wine and sparkling. William and Lisa are awesome! Enjoy!

Bob K.

Yelp
I have been going to Zillie's for many years. I love their quirky style and I'm amazed by the unusual things that they sell. They have a wonderful deck out front where you can sit and enjoy a drink or a snack. If I ended this review at this point, I would give Zillie's five stars. Unfortunately, they allow smoking on the deck. One person can ruin the entire area. My wife and I just went to go sit and have a drink but were unable to do so because of a cigar smoker on the deck. This isn't 1965. It is 2021. Aside from the fact that smoke smells nasty, secondhand smoke is also cancer-causing. If they wanna have a smoking area, they should open a second location. I realize that I am in North Carolina but even here, the majority of people do not smoke. Why should we have to smoke when we go to Zillie's.

Brian Y.

Yelp
Although a bit on the pricey side, a great selection of beers, ciders, wine and various meats and cheeses. And a very nice staff!!

Bill A.

Yelp
Denise and her ream were WONDERFUL! We got to the island on the last ferry..: on a Monday and nothing was open...except Zillie's. A gourmet's delight for "snack". Procuto

David S.

Yelp
Cute little place. Wandered into it on the GoldWing after a nice ferry ride to Okracoke. Very broad selection of wine and beer. Some local NC, some from around the world. Very helpful staff Limited seating and seems really small when it's busy, We didn't get to stay long because the rain was coming, but would have liked to!

Emily B.

Yelp
My family and I frequently vacation on Ocracoke Island. The porch at Zillie's is wonderful and the staff is more or less friendly. The wine selection is reasonable for the island, and the two tastings we attended there were very pleasant. I do, however, have one major complaint. We spent upwards of $50 on individual glasses here, and they wouldn't give out any cups of water. If you're selling alcohol, I firmly believe the responsible and considerate thing to do is provide water so people can drink while being safe, responsible, and ensuring their bike or drive home is safe and under the limit. If you're coming, bring your own water. I hope the management changes their policy on this.

Robyn P.

Yelp
We love stopping at Zillie's on our trips to the island. Yes, the beer on draft and in bottles is a bit pricey. However, I'm happy to pay it to try new beers and have a relaxing drink on their fantastic deck. The snack selection is really fun. Cheeses, crackers, preserves, chocolates... A great addition to their beer and wine. They have some pretty sweet glassware for sale. They've also got some neat "Zillie's" souvenirs. If you're anything like me, you can always use a new koozy and tshirt. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Though there isn't always seating available on the deck (because, as I've already made clear, that deck is quite cool), it's rare to stand in line inside. They've also got beer and wine tastings for a reasonable fee. Totally worth checking out.

Polly D.

Yelp
Great little shop for beer, wine, and specialty foods to enjoy on the beach or to create a perfect happy hour in your rental house! If you ate lucky enough to be on the island on a Thursday or Friday, their wine tasting is a great start to your evening. They are also one of the stops on the new island tram (may-sept and for some special events) so no need to drive if you are drinking and you also don't have to try to balance a 6-pack on your bike.

Brandon H.

Yelp
If your going to run a business learn that customer relations go a long way, word of mouth goes Even further. I am a business owner, I treat my customers right wrong or indifferent with dignity and understanding . I also understand not to judge your customers,I have seen people walk thru my door wearing rags worth more than all of my net worth , I understand that dealing with the public can be challenging. But they are paying your bills and allowing you the life you have. The staff here come off as rude and snobbish. And learn the correct way to pronounce Veuve Clicquot.

Pasquale V.

Yelp
Delirium on tap!!!!!! Holy cow! Very friendly staff. Small selection of cigars. Choice unique items. This is a must stop for everyone!!

Nicole L.

Yelp
In the golf-cart crazy island, we too rented one for fun's sake. Arriving at Zillie's we immediately love the outdoor porch that was evidently popular with visitors sitting and enjoying the day out. Especially the cool fire pit that in the middle of it. Zillie's, though a small store, was a great place for wine, beer and other artisanal food and beverage products. Though the price was probably higher it would be one of the only places on the island for some artisanal products. Ocracoke reminded me of Kauai. Such a cute island with a hippie and artisanal vibe. If I came to NC again I would love to stay on Ocracoke.

Miranda C.

Yelp
Worth the ferry ride to Ocracoke! We stumbled upon Zillies our first trip a few years ago and make sure we hit it every time we come to OBX. They have an amazing selections of beers and wine. Prices are fairly reasonable. This year I purchased a bottle with the hopes to take the remainder home to enjoy with dinner that night. Needless to say, the bottle was finished on their very comfortable porch and I have to purchase another bottle to enjoy later. My husband has the Hercules Double IPA which they had on draft. They also have a big selection for people who don't want beer or wine. We purchased some meat and cheese to enjoy with our beverages. Our goal is to enjoy one of their wine tastings they offer. Maybe next year!

Neil B.

Yelp
Very nice neighbood estblishment. Many rare beers you cant find elsewhere.vike friendly

Heidi D.

Yelp
Super fun place for a glass of something new!! Always new and different things to try after a tough day on the boat..

Alex S.

Yelp
Love the porch! Fun dinner with some cheese, sausage, crackers and a huge selection of liquid bread!

Brenda T.

Yelp
Our group has been staying on Ocracoke Island for the past few days to make donations and support the local economy. We had a wonderful weekend until the last evening when we were cheated by the bar tender at Zillie's. We ordered wine expecting house wine but we were charged $11 per glass for a very small pour at that. We never asked for an expensive wine and their posted prices didn't even show a glass of wine that expensive. We were there two nights before and paid $6 for the same glass of wine - same size. Another couple in our group realized after leaving that they'd paid too much too - $63 for 2 glasses of wine and 3 beers. Not a good way to treat customers if you expect repeat business!

Banen C.

Yelp
I love visiting Zillie's at least once every time we visit Ocracoke.. so many beers and wines to choose from! I'm also a mega snacked on vacation, so I love keeping meats and cheeses on hand. I'm able to stock up at Zillie's. So happy this wonderful place exists.

Robb M.

Yelp
Single best Ocracoke establishment. Best happy hour spot on the island, by far. Sit on the porch after a day at the beach and enjoy a great selection of wines by the glass, terrific craft brews on tap and huge selection of cold bottled beer.

Laura S.

Yelp
I have been coming to Zillie's for years. The moment I got engaged on the beautiful beach here in Ocracoke we came here with a large group to celebrate. I have enjoyed many a wine tasting each time I came with a crew over many years. I have given wedding present consisting of wine, glasses, napkins, food anything sold in the store section of Zillie's. I have brought many a new person here to this place. Until today, I have never been treated so disrespectfully here on this island or actually at any established business. I came with my own travel wine glass anticipating buying a bottle(s), some olives, cheese and gifts. A women approached me and my friend and wanted to take our glasses that we brought with us (which by the way were empty). We explained what we were trying to do and she said good, cause if they weren't empty we would be in trouble. In a very condescending voice. Now if you didn't know- my friend that is with me and I are both high school teachers. We live a life to set an example to our students on how to be honorable, truthful and authentic. We we were trying to purchase the wine we came to but we were then greeted by an indifferent salesperson who projected a almost like why are you wasting my time: the two bottles you are comparing are massively different in price points. Very degrading and presumptions. I have never! My friend and I both have travelled all over the world and our passion is in experiences- enjoying good food, wine and atmosphere. We spend money on our passions. My only regret other than coming here tonight is- that I do not write for Southern Living, Our State, Good Grit or even in Garden and Gun magazine. I would love to provide this massive disappointment to a larger audience.

Sharon K.

Yelp
For ladies night out we did the wine tasting. The wines were good and the pairing delicious - we ended up buying the corn relish and maple bacon jam. Loved the decor and store contents. My only suggestion would be to have a designated area for the wine tasting - we had to stand the entire time near the checkout area and we always felt like we were in the way of other patrons and the staff. An outdoor patio area with comfortable lounge seating would be great.

Katy S.

Yelp
This is a neat little store with a great front porch seating area out front. We bought a draft and can as well as a tub of cheese spread and crackers. They gave us a glass for the canned beer, cheese board, knife, and napkins for our snacks. Great music selection too!

Will K.

Yelp
CIGARS I came here for cigars because it is the only place on the island that feels it's necessary to cater to the likes of me. Their selection is the kind of selection that a person would keep as inventory if they don't know much about cigars and they're trying to do their best. I'm not sure if the humidor had 70% or not because I didn't see a hygrometer and it was a very humid, but I had a completely uneven burn on my Ashton. They did have a cutter, a punch, and matches on hand. Here's what I remember of their selection. Romeo & Juliet Ashton Acid (1 flavor) Hoyo de Monterrey Montecristo Cohiba (I'm pretty sure I saw that one.)

Ainne M.

Yelp
Fabulous assortment of beer, GF, IPAs etc... also neat boozer gifts and great wines to choose from.

Elizabeth F.

Yelp
Admittedly this shop has a number of nice food items that cannot be found elsewhere on the Island. However much of the wine and beer can be found in other shops on the Island at much better prices. I noticed mark-ups of $4 and $5 on bottles of wine I had purchased earlier that day at other stores. The main reason I will not visit this store again is the staff. What unpleasant people! Condescending, unhelpful, and rude. Reading a sign about wine tasting aloud to my friend I commented that we could come for a tasting one evening. "No you can't," the owner shot back. "We book up three weeks in advance because we are so popular." (Excuse me for presuming I might be privileged enough to patronize your store.) After making this remark the owner scurried away and left me waiting another 5 minutes to pay. When he did return and allowed me to pay he complained that he could hardly keep up with customers' uninformed questions about his products. Luckily he won't have to deal with my business any longer.

Mike R.

Yelp
If you want a quality cigar, this place is just about the only place in the OBX to get one. They have a huge selection of beer and other beverages as well as unusual food items. The porch is a popular hangout with free wifi. Highly recommended, off the main drag, and all kinds of awesome.

melinda s.

Yelp
Confession- I am a local on the island. I love Zillies not only for the fabulous selection of beer and wine but the gift ideas for sale inside. The folks at the counter will steer you in the right direction if you tell them what type of beer or wine you like. The deck is a great place for wifi connection and connecting with others on vacation or locals.

Brian M.

Yelp
On the front porch of Zillie's is a great way to transition from beach to dining out on Ocracoke. Great selection of draft beers and wines by the glass and a large selection of beers and wines in the bottle. Great selection of snacks to enjoy with whatever you choose to drink.

Justin C.

Yelp
Should of reviewed while I was there. When the hurricane season came, I feared for Zillie's. This let me know I need to share the love. Great AMERICAN micro-brews to purchase and on tap! I honestly was so in love with this beer selection, I have no idea how they do it and on an island no less! Beautiful patio with free wi-fi. The pantry also has soaps and cheeses and just wonderful little snacks to splurge on. The wife and I highly recommend the wine tastings on Thursdays and sometimes Fridays when in season. Wine and snacks are paired beautifully and presented in a very friendly, hospitable way that makes you proud to be a Southerner. We're no wine snobs and it was super accessible for the newbie. Only $15 a person and we had five generously poured wines with a discount offered on all merchandise featured after the tasting. Super spot, never change Zillie's!

Jodi W.

Yelp
Sweet, quiet spot off the main drag. Enjoyed the porch and a cold drink in the heat of the day. Such a wide variety of choices in the coolers - much more laid back than some of the other pubs in the area.

Danelle R.

Yelp
When researching things to do on the island while on vacation, my boyfriend stumbled upon this really amazing place! We decided to make reservations for 6PM on a Friday night. We arrived to see a deck with a good amount of tables occupied with what I assume were locals and some out of towners such as ourselves. We opened the door into an intimate space with lots of wines from New Zealand to right here in the USA! Not only was the staff who explained the five wines we were about to taste (3 whites, 2 reds) really friendly, they were also very enthusiastic while passing out our hors d'oevres and making small talk along the way. Overall, a great way to spend an evening on the island! Was so pleased with the service, quality, and selection that we bought two wines (both of which were presented at the tasting) and some wine glasses! We also decided to stop by Zillie's again on our last day on the island to pick up some local beer. Whether you're a local, a wine enthusiast, a traveler, or just looking for a laid back evening, this is the place to be!

Liz M.

Yelp
So obviously from my first review, this place has moved to it's swanky digs. I love the porch for an impromptu drink while picking out gourmet goodies. We came here twice in the week- once for a build your own 6-pack, and another with a $20 gift card from the OVFD. We grabbed pimento cheese spread from Cafe Atlantic (it was less pimento and more cream cheese), rice crackers, and an assortment of meats. If you are a beer/cheese/wine snob, you will love this store.

Justin D.

Yelp
Ocracoke Island... one of the best kept secrets in the world!! My family vacations here almost every year, and last year my wife and I had the pleasure of making our second trip to the island! I had not been since I began my craft brew obsession, and I was worried that there wouldn't be any good beer on the island. I had planned on stopping at a store before we got on the ferry. Then I found Zillie's on Facebook. Zillie's had everything... They had beers I had never tried, beers I had never heard of, and a lot of my standards (Dogfish Head 90 Minute, Stone Arrogant Bastard). I took full advantage of the 10% discount on the create your own six packs. Started off with a 90 Minute, Arrogant Bastard, Dogfish Head Burton Baton, Heavy Seas Loose Cannon IPA, Great Divide Hercules Double IPA, and a Great Divide Oak Aged Yeti. NOW THAT"S A SIX PACK! I was also pleasantly surprised at the tapwall. They had four or five beers on tap while I was there, and I think they may have more now. All in all, Zillie's is a great place to stop for good craft beer while you're in the Outer Banks. But if you've ever been to Ocracoke, you know that you don't need just one reason to be there.

Bruce B.

Yelp
Great little stop on your tour of the island. We stopped for some beers and wine to grab a table in a shady stop and watch the people roll along Back Street. When we walked in we were greeted with a question of enjoying a sample of beer off of their 6 taps while we browsed the shop. They had options for all beer and wine drinkers. You could also enjoy a glass out on the porch. They had choices for mix-six packs, though those had to be enjoyed off premises. Great place to poke and pass some time while enjoying Ocracoke Island. The staff was wonderfully kind. We even saw one of the owners coming back from a para sailing expedition earlier in the day. They had her picture up in the store and we realized we had seen her earlier coming off the boat. Too funny.
