The Best Restaurants in Portland’s Charming Multnomah Village | Eater Portland

"This corner bistro and bar situated in the middle of Multnomah Village’s main crossroads does French- and Italian- comfort food, from small plates like polenta cakes with caramelized onions and brown butter and pork-and-beef meatballs with smoked paprika crema to pizzas and pastas including creamy risotto studded with ground lamb and feta and tortellini tossed in lemon pesto with prawns. Portions here skew more European than American, but still leave diners feeling fulfilled, or with room for desserts such as the house-made dark chocolate sorbetto." - Janey Wong

Delicious for the most part 😊 The Ceasar salad, oysters and clams w/ fresh baked bread were my favorite, paired with a nice crisp class of wine. Zinc does a great job with their seafood and sauces. That part was fantastic. I tried the bolognese pasta and found the pasta to be a bit too chewy and the sauce to be on the sweeter side. It was a little strange for me personally and I wouldn’t recommend that particular pasta to anyone. I will definitely be back and I picked out my top favorite items so I know what to order when I go there from now on. I just moved to the neighborhood I’m happy to find a place that serves things like oysters and shrimp. Cocktails and crème brûlée. By the way, the crème brûlée was average. The Kahlúa dessert that my daughter got was kind of messy and I only took one bite. I didn’t like it very much. I spent about $90 easily just on myself even though we went for happy hour lol.

Professional, attentive, friendly staff. We had several shared plates and each one was delicious! The presentation was just lovely. The atmosphere is upscale relaxed. Totally worth it if you would like a lovely evening out.

This place is legit. The quirky fun staff make it extra special. The food is phenomenal and the service peeps my fave. I come all the time and bring friends. It's my go to for friends in town and with my family. We have gotten to know the amazing team over the past year and they are just the best. Good job and thank you for being a great place for any occasion!

WHAT. A. TREAT! I was passing through town, shopping for a friend. Afterwards, I knew I needed a bite. EVERY storefront suggested Zinc. I even killed time so I could experience them, once open. Quick service, kind staff, decadent food, jet fuel espresso....11/10. May Ma & Pa restaurants like this live on and THRIVE. 😘🤌 💋 I can't wait to visit again.

This place is so awesome! I don't know how it could have been better. The food was off the charts from start to finish. The atmosphere was both cool and relaxing. The service was stellar. We even forgot the rest of our wine bottle and our server ran after us with it, and it was raining! Would and will recommend to all we know.

Google
In Portland to drop daughter off at college and we went to Zinc for dinner. Totally loved it! Atmosphere, service, and food were all fantastic! Completely exceeded our expectations. We ordered the crispy wings and Flank Steak Au Poivre and the warm bread. All delicious! Will definitely be back we we come visit our daughter at school again!

ELEMENTS OF DELIGHT & DELICIOUSNESS Zinc is the PERFECT addition to the village. The owner is a warm and welcoming woman who obviously cares a lot about her bistro. Cocktails are wonderfully crafted and we can’t wait to try more of them. This is a happy hour haven, but we will have a meal here next time we go. Bring your pals and light this spot up!

Definitely an interesting restaurant at the trendy Multnomah Village, specializing in upscale dinner. The place is small, but well-decorated and classy. I love the Periodic Table of Elements theme going on, present in the name as well. If you go on a weekday evening, there should be adequate seating even if you walk in. They have an interesting menu in which a lot of things are fairly priced (mainly the pasta dishes), but the appetizers can be quite expensive for what you get, such as the local bread. The dishes at this restaurant are supposed to be shareables for the table, though you can order for yourself and eat what you get as your meal. Therefore, sometimes the dishes are served really slowly since they are meant to be shared. I did like their bolognese a lot. Service tended to be a bit on the slower side, but employees and the owner were all friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Zinc is under new ownership, and it is very clear in the best way. Upon walking into Zinc, you are immediately greeted by the owner every night of the week with a friendly smile and quick service. If a table isn't ready, don't worry the bar will prepare you a drink while you wait. The ambience and decor have changed. The space is lively and always in tune with its guests. The lighting is bright and airy with lots of live plants in an amazing playlist that keeps the atmosphere warm and friendly. The menu has changed since the new owner has taken over. Key new items are homemade pastas and fun, fish dishes. It's clear that the chef and team in the back of house have a lot of experience with sourcing excellent fresh fish. We have been there now three times over the last three months and each time ordering a different dish. My favorite: the meatballs and the affagatto. My partner's favorite: clams, beet salad and trout. Meatballs - these have a rich sauce and are delicate. Perfect for a cold rainy night to warm your soul. Clams - the portion is huge, priced well and delicious. Seems like an afternoon wine and French delicacy. Beet salad (pictured) - this is a new menu item, perfect amount of cheese and beet. Very colorful and fun! I don't like beets and enjoyed. Trout - impeccable. The trout has a dill sauce, stuffed with dandelion greens and roe. Flavor was well balanced and the fish was perfect. Affogato - the vanilla ice cream is rolled in toffee. What more can I say. Bonus: Chocolate Mouse has a cinnamon topping that really makes it stand out. (The empty plate pictured). Honestly, this is worth a drive. Shop Saturday afternoon in the village, enjoy a beautiful meal in the best neighborhood spot and drive home as you're reminded of the Portland that was.

Yelp
Great place. Didn't know much about it before we went but it looked good from the menu. We were not disappointed at all. It was a busy Friday night so it was loud but not obnoxiously so. The food was fantastic as were the drinks. Many small plates to share amongst a table of four, it was delicious and filling and we all got to try everything. The bread was outstanding, as was the gnocchi and the meatballs. It's not conveniently located for us to make it a regular spot, but we really wish we could. Will have to make it a point to go again some time soon.

Yelp
This place has been on my radar since the last place that was here went out of business. I had heard great reviews so on a recent Saturday night it was on. We got there around 6 PM. There are no reservations accepted so first come and first served. We were seated right away by an open window, I thought it was extremely clean turns out it's a huge sliding window (think bay window). Which is great in this time of COVID. That actually gave me a huge relief as I'm still COVID-conscious even though our state thinks lifting the mask mandate for health facilities in April is a good idea. But I digress. We started the evening with a hot tea, which they have many varieties we ordered lemon and got mint but it was still delightful. Drink slowly because they don't apparently offer refills. I ordered the polenta cakes and kale salad both of which I would get again. I ordered the brownie for dessert. All were great. The server apparently dropped off the check and came back with it and we didn't realize so after dessert she kind of got confrontational with how are we doing? We thought we were waiting on the check so a bit of confusion. I realize they are only open from 4 PM to 9 PM and it was getting on 8 PM with people waiting but just a bit of a misunderstanding. Kind of a rough way to end the evening but all in all I will try it again.

Yelp
What can I say, the food is absolutely delicious! Everything is great, you can't make a mistake on this menu. The fries have so much flavor, I wanted another one after I was done with them. The Risotto is very soft and tender, and the sauce is just so epic. The Ravioli is soft, filled with plenty of cheese, and the sauce has a wonderful mix of flavors that hit the palate nicely. The plates are a bit small, so if you want a ton of food then you will be dissatisfied. Service was great and the place is nice and clean. There's sitting inside and outside.

Yelp
Went here for dinner tonight and everything was delicious! We ordered the gnocchi in cream sauce, beet salad, clams in wine sauce, the flank steak special and crème brûlée! Each item was prepared perfectly and the staff were very friendly. The design and layout is super cute and transports you somewhere else. Would be a cute wine date spot or just a nice dinner with the girls. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Love the Zinc. Always a great time in there. Great vibes, we go a lot. Sometimes just drinks, sometimes for apps and food. Great service too.

Yelp
I came to Zinc for the first time tonight with a friend who loves this place. I hadn't been been here before and absolutely loved it. The food is amazing, my drink was perfect, and the staff were so friendly and helpful. I had the meat bolognese, oysters, and the beets and burrata salad. Zinc is a major asset to Multnomah Village.

Yelp
Food and ambience was amazing. Love the decor and upscale lower east side vibe in Mult Village. Owner Jane was super inviting and made our visit fun and pleasant. We live in the neighborhood and visit the village almost daily ! This is a wonderful addition to our lil community. Go check it out!

Yelp
We were taken aback upon entering the restaurant, as the noise level was beyond anything anyone in our party of four had experienced. The waitress promptly came to order our drinks but I was disappointed that they did not have any non-alcoholic beers - which seems to be a standard order these days. After ordering our dinners, three of the four dinners came in a reasonable time frame but the fourth dinner did not come until the rest of us had virtually completed our meals. They comp'ed us the meal but we came to eat together, not to get a free meal. The caesar salad was good, complete with anchovies at my request. The meals that were delivered were fine other than my polenta entree, which was virtually inedible. It was bland and seemed fatty. The meal was not large but I could only stomach about half of it. We won't be going back.

Yelp
Hello new spot in the neighborhood! After reading the menu my mom and I stumbled in here. No wait at all which was great. Ordered some things that I was told which were great shareables... um.. No. These plates were not big enough for myself, let alone to share. 3 of the tiniest meatballs I've ever seen. When they brought the risotto I was in shock. An ambulance couldn't even revive me! The prices are sky high and so are the wait staff. I understand paying people is important, but so is Food security. Don't get me wrong the flavor is there, but not the food apparently.

Yelp
Solid wine bar and bistro in Multnomah. They host a fun happy hour that gives an opportunity to sample the faire. This is definitely one of the nicer stops in the village but not yet my go to.

Yelp
Even for Portland, a "foodie" city filled to the brim with great restaurants, I would still consider Zinc a rare find! The menu mimics what you see in the restaurants atmosphere - clean, stylish and full of great taste! Good service too, whomever is in charge of running this place has done this before, not a single hiccup in the entire experience (as you find with many newly opened restaurants that are still ironing out their kinks). I'll definitely be coming here again!

Yelp
Visited here for the first time after checking out their menu on-line. A friend and I shared the tortellini with ricotta & parmesan with a lemon pesto and prawns that was perfect on a hot summer day. The meatballs shaped more like a croquet were really nice along with the pear and chevre pizette. We ended with the creme brulee. It was not very busy for a Saturday night, I highly recommend checking this place out.

Yelp
Solid and well done cocktails. Didn't eat here. Super quaint bistro in Multnomah village. Looking forward to going back.

Yelp
This place is in a great location, right in the heart of Multnomah Village. The restaurants have changed names and menus numerous times over the years, and unfortunately the result is the same. Mediocre to good (not excellent) food, that is overpriced and tapas which mean they can serve ridiculously small portions for the money. Good customer service but overall disappointing

Yelp
The best hot olives I have had since Terrapin Crossroads in San Raf closed in a great atmosphere. I will definitely be back for wine and munchies.

Yelp
Great little find! Especially good was the fig crostini and polenta cakes, as well as the chocolate mousse. We had other tapas, were all delicious as well. Service was great, our server was knowledgeable and friendly. Atmosphere/decor was fun and a little funky. We were there late and it wasn't too full, but can see during prime dinner time, it could be a hopping place. Will definitely return when we're back in the area.

Yelp
Amazing service, delicious food and lovely ambiance! One of my favorite local restaurants. The new owner is wonderful and has maintained a similar menu with some delicious new additions. Worth visiting if you are near Multnomah Village.

Yelp
I drove down from WA when visiting friends and we had the best time! The staff is so friendly and the food is so so so good. Every item that we ordered was delicious and on top of it, they have Cava! I highly recommend stopping in to this charming local restaurant if you're in the area. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
the gnocchi was amazing! pasta in general was great. beet and burrata salad could have had more flavor, or maybe ours was missing some herbs. however, great service!!

Yelp
I would love to give this place five stars but actually really struggled to give three. We live in the area and have been excited to dine at Zinc. The space is cozy and well designed. The hostess was extremely pleasant and accommodating. Our drinks were delicious. The food...is food. I fully understand that ingredient prices are expensive now but the portions here are minuscule and everything was under seasoned. Spent $100 and left hungry. The pizza was the smallest pizza I have ever seen that was not called a "slice". Also, it was a big big deal to get a pizza with meat on just one half (my girlfriend is vegetarian). According to our waiter, the chef begrudgingly did it but cannot guarantee he will again if we come back. DON'T WORRY...WE WON'T BE BACK.

Yelp
Couldn't get in to Yalla and walked down the street to this cute spot. Nice date night vibes. Gigi Martini is delish. He had ravioli and I had Gamberi. Yum. Servers nice and work in tandem well.

Yelp
Really great food! Kind of food that I can't make at home. It is tapas, which means small plates and portions. But the quality of the food and taste and the great drinks make up for the size of plates

Jim S.

Yelp
Drove quit a distance to find they are closed for remodeling all month. Voicemail message makes no mention of this - we called before going. Doesn't show much respect for customers.

Yelp
Been wanting to have dinner at this lovely bistro in Multnomah Village since I found it, so glad we did. It was fabulous. Every plate we had was wonderful and so were the drinks. The cheese pear tartlet was amazing, the chicken was so crispy, the mussels and frites divine. This is my new neighborhood place, can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Glad to see this place doing well. By the time we left it was packed. Tasty small plates, stylish decor and prices about what I'd expect. Nice variety of interesting good food. The beet sliders are fantastic!

Yelp
Hooray for Zinc! We had a fantastic meal there today. Everything was beautifully executed and everyone made us feel welcome! This is a must do when you come into Multnomah Village.

Yelp
I was so excited for a new place to open in Multnomah Village. The area is so in need of another place for a quick bite and a good drink! We came for a dinner with four friends. Every table was full clearly other people are also excited to see a new place in the neighborhood! All the dishes sounded amazing in the menu! We order bread, beans with prawns, wings and beet sliders. We waited about 1 hour for our food to arrive... When it finally came it was slow one plate at a time every 10-15 minutes. First the bread priced at $10, only enough for each of the members at our table to have 1 tiny slice. Next the beans with prawns came, the "prawns" and were not prawns but rather small bay shrimp, again barely enough food for one person. The beet sliders only had two portions so we each were only able to have one tiny piece. The prices make it feel as though the portions should be large enough for a small group to share but they were barely enough for one person. To top it off as we were finishing our drinks we were asked to hurry up as there was a wait for the dining room, when it was them that brought out food out extremely slow. Very disappointed...
