"Often made with locally milled flour, the loaves at Zingerman's Bakehouse are naturally leavened, long-fermented, hand-shaped beauties with a crusty crust and a moist crumb. Pick any loaf off their shelves, and it will be top notch, the best in the country—I don't say this lightly; it is not a hyperbole." "

Google
Zingerman's Bakehouse truly exceeded all of our expectations for our wedding cake! During our initial consultation, Alyce was extremely helpful in guiding us through the many design options and hand-sketched the most beautiful cake that perfectly captured our wedding style and vision. The tasting box that they put together for us was absolutely delicious, and my husband and I had the best time picking out flavors from their many offerings and recommendations before finally deciding on their vanilla chiffon cake with lemon curd and raspberry buttercream. We really wanted to incorporate fresh floral arrangements on our cake, and the Zingerman’s Bakehouse team worked seamlessly with our florist to coordinate the design and set-up. On the day of our wedding, the cake was stunning and exactly how we envisioned it, and our guests endlessly complimented how absolutely delicious it was. After our wedding, the Bakehouse team also went above and beyond to help us coordinate for a replacement top tier for our anniversary after our hotel mistakenly threw ours away. We really can't thank Zingerman’s Bakehouse enough for their incredible work and for making the entire process easy and stress-free. We highly recommend Zingerman’s Bakehouse to any other couples looking for a beautiful and delicious cake for their big day.

Wonderful bread, pastries, and deserts for foodies. Elevated donuts on Saturdays and Sundays. Bacon infused specials seasonally. Expensive but totally worth it.

Okay, this review might be a bit of a stretch, but I felt compelled to write it. I have never been here, but my friend was. And they were kind enough to bring be back a package of the Currant Walnut Rugelach. Because my know my love of premium bake goods, and specific passion for pastries that go with Chai Latte, this was a real treat. I am thinking of making my own trip to Ann Arbor just to stop in a get some more. So good!

Zingerman’s Bakehouse is truly a gem in Ann Arbor. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick lunch or lingering over pastries and coffee, everything feels crafted with love. Their homemade soups are comforting and flavorful—perfect on any day. The sandwiches are fresh and hearty, made with their own delicious breads. But the real stars are the pastries. From buttery croissants to rich brownies, every bite tastes like it was made just for you. There is a little bit of something for everyone!

Google
This is one off the best places for sandwiches in the area. I only ever buy lunch from here, but the breads and cakes made locally on site look awesome too. Staff are always friendly and manage lunchtime queues well. The sandwiches are a little more expensive than the supermarkets, but the quality is much better here. Recently dropped my ID on the floor in here, and they kept it safe until I returned to collect it. There pecan pie is excellent!

Google
Chocolate cherry sour dough bread!!! Daughter and I were struggling to pick the bread of our choice and it was almost time to close the bakery. One person gave a sample to my daughter to taste and she loved it. Idea of sour dough and chocolate wasn’t something I thought would be good. But it’s amazing!!!

Google
Zingerman's rocks. They serve clean meats and credit the farmers. They also use cleaner ingredients than most, though still working on eradicating seed oils (surprisingly, they use canola oil, so be sure to ask about each dish). Always packed, restaurants would do well to take note. UPDATE 6/19/25: Zingerman's very kindly called all their farmers to find out if they vaccinated their cattle, pigs and chicken. It turns out the cows and pigs are, not sure about the chickens. If this concerns you, try the wild caught whitefish, it is really good, cooked to perfect texture. Also, if you want their amazing sweet potato fries cooked in a clean oil, they will do this for you if you call ahead - give them and hour and a half head's up prior to your reservation.

Google
A friend asked me to pick up large bread order. I have never been here before. I decided to ask for a pretzel. It was put into bag with the rest of the bread order. I was on my way to deliver the bread an hour away. I took the pretzel out to munch on it. It was just SO DISAPPOINTING that they would serve burnt food! I wasted $4 on this pretzel that was obviously not FIT to be sold! I threw it out. First and last experience for me here. RIDICULOUS!

Yelp
I love all of their spots. This is outstanding for high quality cakes and pastries. We always get company goodies here. The coffee cakes and breads are particularly fab!

Yelp
Personally, we kind of thought that this place was a bit overrated. It was a bit crowded and when we tried our pastries, they were just okay. In our experience, the artisan breads are what you should come for. Very yummy especially when they are fresh! We do love what it seems the company provides for the community, in terms of classes and other community events. That's super awesome.

Yelp
Jumblebery pie I struggle to see how anyone can rate this pie highly. It is too sweet, the pastry is too thick and heavy almost like a fortress around the berry mixture, Get someone to make a pie with freshly picked raspberries, blackberries and blueberries ( cranberries optional) with a bit of grated apple so less cornstarch is used for thickening. Now that is a pie that tastes like summer.

Yelp
I stopped by to try their rye bread (bread of the month) and also impulsively picked up a pogcsa. I'm usually not a huge fan of rye bread, but this loaf was on the lighter side and had a perfect balance of flavors. The crumb was fine and even without huge holes in the bread. The crust was nice and chewy. As for the pogcsa, the worker described it as a cross between a biscuit and a scone. It fit in the palm of my hand, kind of an average size of a biscuit. It was flakey on the inside with laminated layers, and tasted of rich butter and a lot of dill. I'm glad to have tried it, although I probably wouldn't get it again since there's so many other things to try. The place was packed when I visited in the morning, but there were plenty of workers and the line moved quickly.

Yelp
The baked goods are simply outstanding and the service is great. Choices for breakfast, etc., are quite limited. There is a small sitting area.

Yelp
This is going to sound snobby but I just don't like bread/bagels from the grocery store anymore. Zingerman's Bakehouse has ruined me. I am literally here 1-2x a week at this point. My go-to for fresh baked bread, my favorite poppyseed bagels, and really delicious and unique cream cheese. The bakehouse also has a to-go sandwiches (think more "normal" than the huge Z deli ones), soups, salads, pastries, cakes/cookies/brownies, frozen items, some pantry items, and a small selection of other Zingerman's favorites. All very high quality and fresh. Some of my favorite weekly specials - Dave Makes Pasta fresh pasta and sauce (new on Thursdays), their Sat morning vanilla cruller, and Wednesday lunch time grilled cheese and tomato soup (so good). My trick with bread loaves is to get them sliced in store for me, then when I get home, I'll take half of the loaf and stick it in the freezer. This allows us to get through the whole loaf without it getting stale. It's easy to pop a slice of frozen bread into the toaster and it tastes like new after we get through the fresh half. Location is easy to get to, with plenty of parking. Follow the signs or GPS if it's your first time, and when you get to the lane with purple/orange, you're in the right place. It seems to get extra busy around lunch time. Consistently nice and friendly workers, even when it's busy. Outdoor seating is great for lunch when the weather's nice. Might as well check out the Creamery, Coffee Shop, and Candy store while you're there! All in the same plaza. They each have different hours though, so make you look that up and plan accordingly! If you go here a lot for bread, make sure to get the bread punch card. Ten loaves to get a free loaf!

Yelp
I really like their delicate ricotta donut (available Sundays only, from 8am) . It is airy and light, and almost like a Japanese pastry in sweetness (i.e. under-sweetened, compared to American taste in donuts/candy). Yet 1 is enough to be satisfied. I also like the vanilla cruller donut (Saturdays only)- this one is much sweeter and eggier, while not being too heavy- I have nicknamed it the poor woman's soufflé^_^

Yelp
It gets busy in here! Great place to stop for lunch! Good assortment of breads and sweets! I came in to order a cake for a birthday and when I went to pick it up it wasn't exactly what I had wanted, luckily Zingerman's was very accommodating and tried to remedy the situation. If you are ordering a cake for a specific occasion I recommend talking directly and sitting down with the cake director so there aren't any misunderstandings.

Yelp
Apparently I wasn't sick of paczki yet after eating a ton of them from three bakeries over the pre-paczki day weekend. On paczki day, I decided to try another two places and Zingerman's was the one I was most excited about. I had heard about a group of people who tried paczki at 15 different places around Ann Arbor and Detroit and found Zingerman's to be the best. Given that news and the fact that I love pretty much everything that Zingerman's Bakehouse puts out, my expectations were pretty high. I walked in the shop at approximately 10AM in the morning on Fat Tuesday and found a line nine parties deep, which is one of the busiest I've ever seen this shop. At this point, they had already run out of my top choice, rosehip, but they still had all the other flavors. I picked up two paczki and a slice of King Cake (also a limited special) to try out. King Cake Slice ($4.99) - This is a Northern French-style Galette des Rois rather than a New Orleans-style King Cake. This consisted of super buttery whole grain puff pastry layers that encapsulated a rich almond frangipane filling. The layers are baked until they develop a bit of a crunch. Instead of a light buttery taste I normally associate with puff pastry items, this one had a much deeper, nutty, browned taste. The layers kind of collapsed together and the cake overall didn't have nearly the height or puffiness that the pictures on Zingerman's Bakehouse website shows. The frangipane is heavily almond fragranced, very apparent smelling as soon as I lifted the pastry up. My first impression as I bit through the slice was that it was baked a bit too long, a bit dried out and mushed together. Then again, I haven't had an authentic slice of Galette des Rois before, so I don't know if it was over baked or is just supposed to be like this. Ricotta Paczki ($3.49) - The first thing I noticed was that this paczki was fried quite a bit unevenly - one side was way darker than the other. As I bit into it, the outermost layer kind of peeled off on both sides. This was kind of strange as it's something that didn't happen in any of the other paczki I tried. The dough was chewy, but the chew felt less like a brioche chew and more like a bready chew with a lot of gluten development. It was by far the most bread-like of the five bakeries I tried. I did like the filling - the tanginess of the ricotta really came through and balanced well with the slight sweetness of just a bit of added sugar. Chocolate Cream Paczki ($3.49) - This time the fry seemed to be to be similar on both side, but both sides were also quite dark, indicating that perhaps it was over-fried. In addition, the darker fried areas glistened in the light and made me wonder if it absorbed too much oil in the frying process. Then again, the skin didn't peel off of this one unlike the ricotta paczki. Texture-wise, it was pretty much the same as the ricotta. And again, I loved the filling; rich chocolate flavor with a perfect amount of sweetness that still allowed the natural bitterness of the chocolate to shine. Overall the paczki had great fillings but the dough was only okay. To be honest, these were probably some of the worst offerings I've gotten from Zingerman's, right next to their bagels. I'm not sure if it's just this batch that wasn't great or if they are always like this every year. I would not get them again given other bakeries around that are plainly better. If I had to rate the paczki by themselves they would be a 3 and the King Cake would be between a 3 and 4. Still, overall Zingerman's Bakehouse still deserves my original 5 star review given how great most of their other items are. Maybe I should just stay away from their once-in-a-year items.

Yelp
1st and foremost ****John*****is an amazing associate! This strip mall of Zingerman's across the way from Pittsfield Township Costco is phenomenal. They have several shops available with everything from fresh roasted and brewed Coffee to a wide variety of imported and freshly made Candy. Not to mention dairy, all kinds of locally made and US made cheeses, & platters, and all the accompaniments. The there's the BAKERY with every sweet known to man INCLUDING scones, cinnamoN rolls, pies, cakes, breads, sliced OR unsliced whatever you prefer. Bagels, Pasties. (an Upper Peninsula delicious meat pie). Sandwiches, salads, fruit and nut breads. You really can't beat the service. You can ask for suggestions and the team there is always very helpful. John was a delight. We had a great conversation and of course he asked about Austin when he found out that's where I was from. I told him at 1 million people it's not the same Austin we moved to 30 years ago!!! Thankfully some things don't change and Zingermans maintains the highest quality in everything they offer! We love this company and the area where it's located-of course if you are in A2 proper the restaurant also offers all the products available out here too! Check it out if you are near or far as their online catalog may be calling your name!!!!

Yelp
Love getting fresh bread from here. They also have a variety of pastries. The french cruller is absolutely amazing. Friendly service.

Yelp
Zingerman's BAKE had one of the best cooking/baking classes I've ever taken. I did a course on making Danishes that was a great experience. The instructors were knowledgeable and helpful, and every part of the experience was well-timed and thought out. Danishes require a laminated dough which is hard to pull off in 4 hours. So, over the course of the class we: made our own butter block and dough; shaped and filled dough that BAKE staff had made the day before; laminated our dough; egg washed and prepared the shaped danishes for baking; tasted the baked pastries. At the end of the class, we received 18 baked danishes, our laminated dough and filling (enough to make 18 more), and recipes for the dough and fillings. The class was tons of fun and educational, and with all the danishes we got to take home I definitely felt like we got the value out of the price. Highly recommend taking a class along with a friend or family member!

The breads & desserts are the stellar items on our table. Try the seasonal breads! You will never be disappointed. The staff have a warm and personal touch.

Yelp
What a place this is, just wonderful. The food, the service, the vibe, it's all perfect. The croissants were very crisp and great. I wish I had asked them to heat it up to make them perfect. The savory scone, cheese herb flavor was surprisingly amazing and a must try.

Yelp
The bakehouse has had nothing but great service and great baked goods since before I moved to Michigan. Everything is always fresh and they're actually the first Zingerman's business I visited. (Always order the hummingbird cake!)

Yelp
Located in a a small industrial sub in southern Ann Arbor, Zingerman's has 3 separate adjacent premises housing a bake shop & retail, soft cheese manufacturing & retail, and a candy shop (which I did not visit). Appealing to our emotions is amongst Z's specialties. The bake shop is beautifully presented selling 20 (approx) different kinds of bread made from starter yeast (more time consuming, old fashioned, high quality), bags of cookies, croissants, muffins and other treats. There are other high quality bakeries in other towns manufacturing high quality breads, however, Zingerman's has a splendid selection. The cheese shop visit was interesting, yet it is there is where the trance of the magic Z-spell was broken. After buying the most highly recommended cheese we learned that it's imported, not made by Zingerman's (they only make soft spreadable cheeses). This could and should have been disclosed, far more apparently (if there is fine print somewhere). Some other high quality retailers sell even deeper selections of quality cheese. All representatives were polite and courteous. Some other reviewers have debated if Z's higher pricing and quality are commensurate. This first visit and purchases was not conclusive in discerning the overall value proposition for me.

Andrea J.

Yelp
We purchased three Zingerman's pies for the three people in our family. (Wow!). I am a life- long super-snob-and-proud-of-it-from-scratch-pie-maker. I yield to Zingerman's, the pecan pie was scrumptious and so was the pumpkin pie. ( Sadly, the first two pies are so divine we haven't tried the jumbleberry yet.).

Yelp
I knew about this shop because their chocolate bars were being sold at the hotel that I was staying in. They looked delicious, so I thought that I would check out the store. I was not disappointed. The chocolate was to die for. There were so many options to choose from, and the person I met behind the counter was warm and friendly. I told her that it would be dangerous for me to have this shop so close to where I live because I would be coming in for the chocolate all the time. There was an impressive selection of flavors, and I was very happy. I would definitely come here again the next time I'm in Michigan.

Yelp
Delightful all around. These folks did our wedding cupcakes and a small wedding cake for cutting and they ROCKED it. We got their preset wedding cake tasting box and honestly felt it was a little stale, but we used it to figure out what flavors we liked most and requested some fresh combinations that we then loved. Alyse was super easy to work with and crafted a beautiful cake! Lovely shop with all manner of baked goods, breads, sweets, etc. Super nice staff and everything I've had is delicious. A bit weird on the location but well worth your trip!

Yelp
Great bakery! I stopped at the Zimmerman Empire for baked goods and coffee. Is delicious! Zimmerman is a terrific set of businesses that include food, candy, big goods, and coffee. It is in the middle of an industrial area. Customers love it, there was a constant stream of cars coming and going, delivering people into the stores. I had a very good croissant and an excellent cranberry orange muffin with a latte. Everything was excellent. Service was wonderful. I'm glad I came.

Yelp
Fun place to pick up goodies for the day. I went at 7:30am and there were croissants, pastries, cookies, and muffins. They had 2 different (self-serve) coffee choices and I picked up some fresh made bread which they kindly sliced for me. I was hoping for a breakfast sandwich but I only saw a couple (lunch) sandwiches along the wall in the refrigerated section. They also sell full cakes and their sour cream coffee cake. The staff there were so helpful and friendly, great service!

Yelp
I've been drinking coffee since I was about 5 years old. It was Sanka with my great grandfather, so can we really call that coffee? I think it was the full experience of feeling grown up and hanging out with a great man in the summer. Fast forward a few *ahem* years and I've become a bit of a connoisseur, in my own right. Naturally when I visit a place, one of my first Google searches is for "Best coffee". This place popped up and I followed the directions that took me to a business park. I was skeptical. Then intrigued. THEN, impressed. The entire concept, never mind the block long business occupancy, was unique. Bakery, coffee, cafe, candy, classes, yes! All of it!! So many options, Andy I can't wait to visit again!

Yelp
We love all things Zingermans and this is no exception. Tucked back in a quiet office park with plenty of parking. I had a delicious zinglish muffin and I bought a lot of staples.I also had a great fresh salad and bought chicken salad from their shop in the same parking lot. I bought some roasted coffee beans, I don't drink coffee but hubby does so I brought it home for him. This was a win and a gem of a find far away from the mayhem of downtown A2.

Yelp
I understand this place is small and probably gets busy. This was our 1st time here so we wanted to browse. There were only 4 ppl in the store. Almost instantly when we walked in the cashiers were like "we can help you checkout" and then repeated it every 5 seconds, still just 4 ppl in the store. I felt incredibly rushed and overwhelmed. We ordered 2 croissants and a scone. He rang us up, I paid and then he said the scone we ordered was out, but we had already paid so we left with a different one we didn't really want. The croissants were over cooked and tasted like burnt toast on the outside. The whole experience gave me anxiety and I just wanted a tasty pastry. I don't know if I can handle the pressure of knowing what I want to order in point 3 seconds after walking in the door like they want so I don't know if I'd go back.

Yelp
Wowzer!! Baked good, candy, cakes, sandwiches! The place is popular...& in a warehouse area. Not to be missed!!

Yelp
Never disappointed! Always a perfectly baked addition to any meal! My go to for every holiday or just because.

Yelp
Extremely UNDERWHELMING. Received the Cinful Cinnamon Rolls as a gift, and they weren't worth the box in which they came. It's like the company chucked a bunch of marketing into the box and the cinnamon rolls were made as filler to remedy selling an overpriced empty box. If you're looking for soft and fluffy cinnamon rolls, look elsewhere. These cinnamon rolls were HARD, LACKED flavor all the way through, and an utter DISAPPOINTMENT when thinking about how great a gourmet cinnamon roll will taste. The only thing sinful about these is the time Zingerman's robs you of when you prepare and eat them. I've had substantially better cinnamon rolls out of the tube from the local grocery store.

Yelp
Zingerman's Bakehouse, like the other Zingerman's ventures, has a wide range of products and really great marketing. Most of their products that I've tried have ranged from ok to pretty good. Compared to other local bakeries, the draw of Zingerman's is the sheer variety of products that they carry--they have many speciality bakes (such as Jewish and Hungarian baked goods) that aren't available elsewhere in the area. The ingredients and nutrition facts listed on their website are also helpful. However, for many of the individual items they make, there are better options from other local bakeries. Prices are pretty high, but many of their products can be found elsewhere for slightly cheaper, e.g. at Plum Market or Sparrow Market. For sourdough bread, Bird Dog Baking and White Lotus Farms are better options. Zingerman's bread is ok (better than Avalon), and they do have some speciality loaves like dinkelbrot and vollkornbrot that other places nearby don't carry. For croissants, White Lotus Farms and other farmers market purveyors are better options. Service is great. During COVID-19 they're limiting capacity in the store (and have actually enforced it in my experience). The online ordering system is convenient and efficient. Recommended: -Bostock - twice-baked brioche with frangipane -Ginger scone -Pecan blondie -Funky chunky chocolate chip cookies - earthy and delicious -Sour cream coffee cake Pretty good: -Chocolate cherry bread -Dinkelbrot (spelt loaf) -Triple trouble chocolate cookie -Black magic brownie -Lemon scones -Hot cocoa coffee cake -Jumbleberry pie -Chestnut Rigó Jancsi - seasonal variation; the chestnut rum cream is good -8-grain 3-seed bread - I like this bread but prefer the versions from White Lotus and Crust -Lemon Merenga (lemon meringue tart) - not bad but I think Cannelle/Great Commoner makes a better version -Cinnamon rolls - not bad but Crust makes a better version -Cranberry orange muffin - more cake-like compared to the other muffins Just OK: -Croissants and danishes -Currant scone -Blueberry muffin -Maple bran muffin -Lemon cloud - mix between a danish and a donut, with a small amount of lemon curd in the middle -(Regular) Rigó Jancsi Not good: -Ginger jump-up cookie - not very gingery or spicy; the ginger molasses cookies at White Lotus are better -Townie brownie -Dobos Torta - buttercream is very buttery; we had to throw most of it out -French cruller - denser and less flavor than expected

Yelp
This bake house has a ton of options. If you like breads and cookies then this is your place. I'm not sure how many different types of bread they offer but it is a lot. Sweet, savory, grainy are all covered here. It is a little pricey but definitely worth treating yourself to. The customer service was fast and friendly. The buildings are a little confusing because almost everything in the the plaza is owned by them. They offer a lot of other items in the different shops. Highly recommended

Yelp
This is an incredible place. I have always been a big fan of their baked goods. Everything from their chicken salad to their Paris Brest looks so irresistible, but we were not here for their bakery, we were here for one of their classes. It was absolutely magical and extremely worthwhile. My child wants to improve her decorating skills so I was searching for courses that were not too childish. Most of the decorating classes are for very small children out there, like decorating a cupcake. But Zingermans had actual hands-on classes that provided substantial lessons. We took the cake decorating course. It was a four or five hour class that started from the beginning. We learned how to score and slice a cake, do a crumb coat, and finish the frosting, then decorate. We each got our own cake and got to practice using commercial grade equipment. We also got to socialize with a wonderful group of people, and sample the baker's cake before taking home our own in a bakery box for the family. Monica, our instructor was incredible, helpful, funny, and knowledgeable. She was a very good and effective teacher that gave practical tips that can be used beyond this session. We had a great time and would love to take more of their courses. I highly recommend for anyone who wants a great experience and great products. They also gave us a coupon sheet to use at the stores in the industrial park. While we did shop and graze around the area before the class started, we will be back with the family to use those coupons for sure! I just want to thank Monica again for a great class. My daughter was beyond thrilled with her cake and has since eaten every crumb.

Yelp
As a result, I'm including all three of Zingermans' businesses: the creamery, the roastery cafe, and the bakehouse. simply because they were linked together, and of course I had to look at each one. So watching the bake! class was fun; I wish I had signed up, but I'm sure the classes fill up quickly. A favorite food of mine was the delicious cheese in the creamery. I was eager to try every delicious item. In addition, they offered yummy gelato. The roastery cafe was the final stop. I enjoyed a perfectly made, creamy, and smooth latte. In addition, I bought some chocolate and other items from the cafe's candy factory side, which appealed to me because of how beautifully decorated it was.

Yelp
This place is great! Wonderful baked goods. Of course I had to have the bagels and scones. Everyone else has already written about this. What I'm here to write about are the pasties. I'm visiting from the middle of the Pacific and I see frozen pasties. I pick up 3 looking forward to a then for lunch. I get home and my mother tells me that they aren't very good. What? Zingerman's selling a mediocre product. I bake them at 400 as directed for 55 minutes and they look great. I dig in and then think WHATTT? This doesn't taste right. I try it again and taste oregano. Not what I expect with a pasties. I understand why my mom didn't like it. The flavor profile was too different from a standard pasties. It wasn't bad but neither did it elevate the pasty experience. the meat felt like okay oregano beef sausage. Stay with the baked good!

Yelp
Gem in Ann Arbor. This super cute bakery is tucked behind warehouses. There are so many things to try! I wanted it all! Mouthwatering cinnamon rolls, pies, breads and more! I love it all. As a bonus, you can watch the bakers through a window. We had a super helpful worker give us suggestions. Go check it out, you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Sometimes there's strange desserts you look past, like coconut-covered cinnamon long-Johns, or a pie made completely from walnuts and candy-canes. If this place made those, I'd by two. Everything I've purchased here is delicious - coffee cakes, muffins, pastries, croissants......walnut candy-cane pie (kidding)....all of it. Cranberry Orange Muffin and Lemon Poppyseed Coffee Cake are my favs. Try everything at least once, you won't regret it. The best part - they have baking classes next door, usually about $90-$150 per person, virtual or in-person. Before you hedge at the price, I'll tell you - you make everything in the class, and sometimes (all the time?) you'll take ingredients home to make more. Me and my kid went home with 28 croissants, plus ingredients for 28 more.

Yelp
When friends heard we would be passing through Ann Arbor, they told us we had to stop here because the sourdough bread is supposed to be better than San Francisco. We had our doubts because we hadn't found anything close to it in in the nearly 20 years we've lived in the Midwest. But yes, it IS that good! Biting into a freshly baked slice was a taste of heaven. Quite possibly the best bread we have ever had! Employees were helpful and patient while we decided what we would buy and how we wanted it sliced. And we picked up a mail order catalog- I think we may be in trouble

Yelp
I always forget that they have operations on this side of town... mostly because it's hidden in the back. Signs are there, but if you are only going to Costco, then you'll miss the sign. I needed to get some baguette but after smelling all the baked goods, ended up with buying another bread, yeah you can't leave with just one lol. The cashier grabbed the bread that just came out, which was nice. It was nice and warm. Definitely need to remind myself that I need to stop by more often whenever I make a Costco visit.

Yelp
Great coffee, bread and services! Quality at its best and since it's made onsite you cannot have it any fresher

Yelp
Hidden gem of a bakery behind Costco in Ann Arbor open 7-7pm every day except holidays . Such a treat and nothing but the best - special orders too! This franchise is one of the best parts of Ann Arbor and don't miss their cheeses, café, the Roadhouse for meals and amazing world famous Deli!!

Yelp
I typically grab some goodies here after working out... so I feel like I have free rein to go ahead and eat whatever I want. One day, I headed in and bought a blueberry muffin and a chocolate croissant. After I had already checked out, some guy walks in and says, "I'll take a pretzel". My immediate response, "Um, what???" Yep, I hadn't even noticed the pretzels to the left of the cashier. I promptly got one myself, and happily walked out the door. Better hurry up before someone else orders something that sounds good. Well, I'll say that I devoured the pretzel, which was VERY close to what I used to get when I went to Germany all the time for work. Followed that up with the croissant (better have dessert, you know?) And then just a little later that day hit the muffin too (though I didn't finish it because it was dry and didn't have many blueberries.) Probably best if I keep my ordering to one item only in the future. I did pay with a bit of a sugar crash, but I'd say it was worth it. :) I've also found the to-go sandwiches a little lack-luster and not really worth the price. Overall love this place and it's my go-to when I'm in the mood for some pastries (and now pretzels.)

Yelp
Still our local go-to place for bread, but lately we've been rocking the curbside pick up and it rules. You can place an order from their website and within an hour your order will be ready. Pull up outfront, give them a ring and they'll bring it out to you. No muss, no fuss. And their website is easy to navigate. They've got breads, breakfast pastries, cakes, cookies and cupcakes, pies, even soups/salads/sandwiches and a small selection of cheeses from the creamery. They also have a small pantry selection which includes knives, bowls, parchment paper, and ingredients like butter, sugar, lard, house milled flour, chocolate, herbs, oils and more. It's an impressive selection! Bake! classes are still going on but now they're primarily virtual now, which is a nice way to learn some new skills while staying safe at home!

Yelp
I don't know what say, the bake house is an amazing part of the overall Zingermans empire. I could spend a day tasting my way around. The stuff of legends.

Yelp
(pre-Covid-19 experience) Someone sent a Zingerman's Bakehouse sourcream coffeecake (3 lbs) in a cartoon gift box as a holiday gift, and fortunately for me, it ended up being shared in the communal kitchen. It was yummy! Http://www.zingermans.com/

Yelp
During COVID, Zingerman's had reduced the variety of bread available, including my favorite, the Sesame Semolina. So when it announced that it was bringing back this loaf, I knew that a trip to Ann Arbor was in the cards. Early Sunday morning, while the traffic was still very light, I made a quickish trip to the famed bakery, part of a family of Zingerman businesses clustered in an industrial park off of I-94. The bakery was re-configured differently since my last in-store visit. There is a large table topped with coffee cakes, breakfast pastries, etc, at the front (near the baking essentials) and a freezer filled with cakes against the wall towards the back. You can call ahead and do curbside pick-up. When you park, just call the bakery and a kind soul will deliver the food directly to your car. Since I had not fully planned my trip this time around, I went in, masked. But in the past, I preferred curbside pick-up. Along with this round, still warm from the oven, sliced loaf, I also picked up a doughnut, some cupcakes, and a slice of cake. The bread would be wonderful by itself but with softened butter, it was quite the treat. The crust was covered in sesame seeds while the bread itself was firm but yielding, and oh, so, fragrant. I must have more willpower than I thought because I was actually was able to resist inhaling the doughnut during the drive home, as is my habit. It was larger than expected and tasted of the oil in which it was fried. That is not to say that it was greasy, instead, it was firm and fluffy and actually tasted of substance. The doughnut itself seemed to be lightly, lightly glazed, and then topped with rich, dark chocolate. I loved it; it is so much better than those found in chain doughnut shops. I do wish Zingerman's would bring back their maple, bacon doughnut though. What's not to like about a bacon-topped fried pastry? The chocolate cake was perfect for this week's Zoom dessert meet-up. The single-layer cake had a brownie-like texture and was topped with a lusciously-thick amount of buttercream. This continues to be one of my favorite cakes Service is, as always, friendly and courteous here.

Yelp
I was a big fan of Zingerman's Bakehouse before the pandemic, but these days my feelings towards this Ann Arbor institution are full blown love. Bread is life. And the good folks at the Bakehouse are continuing to sustain our community during these challenging times. To make it even easier, I was able to call ahead, place my order over the phone, and then call when I arrived in the parking lot. A smiling gentleman with gloved hands came out to my car, dropped my loaves in the rear passenger seat, and I was on my way without having to come within six feet of another human being. This trip, my bread of choice was the State Street Wheat. It's a very different bread from the crusty rustic loaves for which the bakery is well known. This is designed to be a whole grain filled, soft, sliced sandwich bread, and it totally fits the bill. One of my fussy kids loved it. The other one, not so much. That kid is pretty sensitive to any traces of a sourdough tang. In my mind, that means more bread for the rest of us. While the State Street Wheat makes great toast and a mean grilled cheese, my heart belongs to the Country Miche. Especially the large loaves, which quite frankly, are too large for my family to consume these days. However, the Bakehouse understands, and sells it in fractional quantities. That means, I can walk out with a mere quarter of a loaf, and be very very happy. Nothing has made me happier at the Bakehouse though than the olive focaccia. Unfortunately, that was a monthly special and now its gone. But i have discovered other things to love. Have you ever tried Volkornbrot? It's a dense german loaf that made entirely of rye flour. So dense. So grainy. So good. Especially in these modern times, when I'm prizing nutritional density and longevity above much else. It also is killer with hard salami and aged cheeses. Who would ever have thunk that I'd go for a German bread over my favorite French loaves. Speaking of which, the baguettes will do the trick in a pinch. One of these days I'm hoping to be around right when they come out of the oven. But given there isn't a local outpost of Maison Kayser (yet), I'm content with what I can get on the south side of town. There's still a lot more for me to explore at this bakery, including many of the Hungarian sweets, the daily soups, and their prepared cold sandwiches. I'm still kicking myself for not buying one of those savory Hungarian strudels filled with cabbage cooked in goose fat when I had the chance. Let that be a lesson to you all... if you see something delicious at Zingerman's Bakehouse, you should buy it. Not everything there is available every day. And some products go on vacation. Live for the moment. Just don't forget to call ahead.

Yelp
I called the bakehouse to inquire about a last minute cake for my daughter's 2nd birthday party. I spoke with Jalen on the phone who was informative, polite and very patient. While the Bakehouse ended up not being able to execute what I was looking for, Jalen was very communicative and went above and beyond to assist me. We'll be utilizing the Bakehouse in the future for our needs simply based on this positive interaction. Thank you, Jalen!

Yelp
I LOVE EVERYTHING HERE! You can't go wrong getting anything. The pastries, the bread, the grab & go goodies -- oh my! Absolutely scrumptious. And if you're extra lucky & local to Zingerman's Bakehouse, do yourself the biggest favor in this world and pop in sometime on Wednesdays when they are making their out-of-this-world grilled cheeses! Get yourself some & thank me later! They are hands down the best grilled cheese sandwiches I have ever tasted & believe me when I say I have tried many a grilled cheese in my lifetime! ;)

Yelp
We haven't been here in awhile so when we do make a stop, we indulge! We wanted to buy everything but only bought brownies and a coffee cake. The Bakehouse isn't very big and we were glad to see an employee at the door asking people to wait outside (until people left). Although they use quality ingredients, everything is pretty expensive. We also went to Zingermans Coffee for a latte to enjoy with our brownies. Yum!
