"Zip into Zippy's It's late and you're out with friends or bringing the family back to the hotel after a long day at the North Shore. Everyone's hungry for a filling snack—or a late dinner. Back on the U.S. mainland, you might consider dropping by a Denny's, but in Hawaii, head to a Zippy's. This family-style restaurant serves comfort-food favorites with a little Hawaiian flair. In addition to classics such as chili, sandwiches, and pancakes, you'll also find traditional island dishes like saimin, loco moco, and musabi. The menu is enormous and can fulfill nearly any craving. And don't forget dessert: Try the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Ultimate Donut (pictured) or the bread pudding à la mode. Plus, the coffee's always on."

Dude, Zippy's is like their McDonalds, but has everything I want. I think they have a meal that's like fried chicken, fried fish, beef and Spam with rice T_T

Google
My Uber driver suggested we try Zippys since we were not happy with another restaurant. My wife had the spaghetti with Chile and absolutely loved it. I had the chicken plate and thought it was good. The chicken was crispy but not greasey, and the potato salad was nice and creamy. The chicken was nice and moist but could have used a little more flavor in the coating for my taste.

It’s a one time try if you want to try it for yourself and get your own option on it. Will I eat here again? No, it’s not presentation of meal and taste is on 2 different page. Unless you are hungryyyyyy and need a quick don’t care meal in your system just get it.

Google
Zippy’s – 2 stars I’ll admit—I was being generous with this rating because I knew going in that my palate might not be quite ready for some of Hawaii’s local staples. Spam just isn’t something I’ve had much of or really craved! Walking in, the vibe felt nostalgic—like a classic neighborhood dine-in spot. I ended up chatting with a fellow visitor from the mainland, and he swore by the spaghetti (which almost tempted me!). But I stuck with the TikTok favorite: the Zip Pac. It’s a loaded combo of Hawaiian staples—fried Spam, fish, teriyaki beef, and a piece of fried chicken, all served over white rice. Visually, the plate was packed and definitely filling. But for me, it was a texture and taste thing—it just didn’t hit. I couldn’t finish it, but I’m still glad I gave it a try. Service was pleasant, the space was decently clean, and there was plenty of parking. I saw a lot of locals enjoying themselves, which made it clear this is a go-to comfort spot for many. Someone told me Zippy’s is like Hawaii’s Chick-fil-A, and I can respect that. It just wasn’t my flavor lane. If you’re visiting the island, I’d still say give it a try for the cultural experience. But for me, it was a one-and-done. 💬 Like honest food reviews with personality? Follow me on TikTok for more feedback and food videos: @kaychap1

Placed an order, told the lady I’m allergic to pork. I asked for a dish that doesn’t have any in it. The “trainer Nora,” mentioned the fried noodles. I told her I’d try that. My spouse ordered a dish and the lady said, “Oh, you can substitute the meat.” But she failed to mention there is an upcharge for doing so. I get home, look up the dish and it has spam in it. Well, spam is pork. Of course, I noticed this when I got home. The bathroom smelled like a truck stop bathroom. It looked like there was urine all over the floor. I’m very disappointed in this experience.

Google
I ordered chicken trio. I've been ordered this item often from all different locations, but this location is terrible. Chicken katsu is orver cook and there is no sauce marinated with korean chicken, it was just plan fried chicken, no flavor at all, and fried chicken is super dry inside. None of them seems normal compare to other zippy's.

Zoee Marisol

Google
we stopped by Zippy‘s to try it out. I ended up ordering the oxtail soup which was pretty delicious. Lots of oxtail was included in my soup and we also tried the trio Korean fried chicken platter

Google
Pretty good food and the price was affordable. Would of given it 5 stars if their credit card machine would work.

Yelp
My fave spot for fast food in Oahu! Service is quick and their food is delicious. My go to order is their Zip Pac regular plate, which is the most popular item on their menu! I've also tried their loco moco and Korean Fried Chicken, which is pretty solid. Definitely check out Zippy's if you need a quick meal on a budget!

Yelp
WHY WE WENT HERE: - recommended as the go-to fast-casual restaurant (Zippy's is to Hawaii as Denny's or IHOP is to the mainland; as it was explained to me) THE LOOK (FROM THE OUTSIDE): - located on the corner of Kapahulu Ave sandwiched between Ho'olulu St and Campbell Ave - small parking lot - distinct logo at the storefront, alone with "Napoleon Bakery" underneath it THE LOOK (FROM THE INSIDE): - honestly made me think of the McDonald's I went to growing up with the way the interior looked - didn't necessarily give me diner vibes per say, but definitely fast food vibes - not sure how the other locations are, but with this location, the bathrooms are code-locked, so if you need to use the restroom, you need to ask the workers for the pin THE MENU: - VERY extensive; overall a mix of standard American, Hawaiian, Japanese, Korean dishes WHAT WE ORDERED: - Korean Fried Chicken - Loco Moco THE TASTE: - Korean Fried Chicken was very tasty! just oddly cold... - Loco Moco was devoured CUSTOMER SERVICE: - order at the cash register, pay up front, and either wait for your food to-go or self-seating is available - when your order is ready you go back to the counter where it indicates "pick-up" - when we had leftovers, communicating with the kid at the counter was very... difficult and frustrating; the day and time we went looked like the workers who assisted us were high schoolers

Yelp
Service was okay. The ambience of the building was also okay I had chicken and Malsada. I like malasadas. Yes.

Yelp
I brought SO to Zippy's for their chili, garlic bread and Mac salad. I got Loco Moco small size which was perfect for me. It's a no nonsense place that you get good food for a reasonable price. You order at the front and then either take it to go or sit down and eat like we did. SO has never had Zippy's chili and pretty much inhaled the chili, garlic bread and mac salad. He gave a thumbs up and was happy with everything. What I really appreciated was the Loco Moco Mini size - it came with one scoop mac salad, hamburger patty and one fried egg with beef gravy. It was definitely tasty and I could have ordered more but I wanted to save my appetite for dessert later.

Yelp
Been hearing so much about Zippy's that we had to make sure to fit it into our busy schedule when we vacationed in Oahu. We wanted to try a little of everything so we got the Zip Pack Deluxe and it did not disappoint! Fried chicken, crispy fish filet, teriyaki marinated beef, and spam, all on rice with chili and mac salad. Glad we shared this because it was a lot! So good. I heard there's one in Vegas now so I'm hoping Southern California is next.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was great, but no service at all - the lady who took our order clearly didn't want to be there. And... $4 for a soda but no refill? I'd go back for the food though. Fried chicken and chili... yum!
google avatar

Yelp
Best KFC I've had, my go to plate. Zip Pac is my second go to. Korean Fried Chicken's sweet and salty combo of flavor go so well together with hot steamed rice. And there's the Mac Salad to balance it off. Crispy fried dark meat chicken coated with batter in a thin soy sweet sauce. Zip Pac had the perfect combo of every protein you can pair with rice: Teri Beef, Fried Chicken, Fried Fish. Both chicken thigh and fish had crispy batter that is light and well seasoned. Reasonably priced especially for the portion. Parking spaces are a little confusing especially most are assigned to online pick up order. Quick service.
google avatar

Yelp
Meh... We stopped at Leonards, which is just down the block from some malasadas, and then came here because my wife has a gluten allergy and deserves breakfast, too. As long as we were here, I ordered one of their malasadas so I could taste-test it. Leonards was better by far.

Yelp
Zippy's is my go-to when visiting Hawaii. I typically go for a quick and affordable breakfast, definitely preferred over McDonalds. I get the Corn-beef hash and Portuguese sausage breakfast bento (comes with eggs and rice). Employees are always nice and the restaurant is clean with plenty of seating.

Yelp
In years past, Zippys was the place to go for a quick bite. This experience was different. The food was pretty skimpy and not tasty. It was relatively expensive too. Too bad, another Hawaii institution has fallen down.
google avatar

Yelp
First time trying Zippy's! The chicken is really good, We ordered Chicken Trio, malasada, and Long Johns. I would say I would come back for the food. the place is clean, there's a lot of parking. Staff are a little unfriendly- hate to smile- I know they're tired. I'm sorry :( ... but yeah, I love their chicken so if ever we come across this way we will stop by hopefully people will be a little happier
google avatar

Yelp
We usually visit Zippy's at least once when we come to a Hawaii. Normally I love their chili but it was not served hot. Their Hawaiian fried chicken was hot and delicious and their Mac salad was good. Actually I liked their food better in Vegas though! Yikes! I give this past visit a solid three and a half stars.

Yelp
Well when someone wants Zippys and it's your father in law you got to go ‍ I'm not too fond of Zippy but my father in law wanted Mini hamburger steak instead of Korean food . I phoned my order in and surprisingly it was ready normally you have to wait awhile I guess they were slow . My father in law wanted gravy all over and when he open the mini hamburger steak they added only a little gravy on the rice . Oh well ? Try to support local if possible

Yelp
Our first time here was awesome! Kamalani was super helpful and nice. We are not from here so we didn't know that we had to pay for a new drink when we finished ours. However, she was kind enough to give us a free new one. We love her hospitality. The inside is pretty nice, with a lot of seating, shade and AC. Clean tables and chairs with some outlets to charge your devices! As for the food, it was delicious. May need more sauce for the Korean Chicken but other than that, we loved it. Would definitely stop by when we visit Hawaii again!

Yelp
It's Zippy's and it's open 24hrs. It's comfort food and always there when I'm hungry late at night. I have my favorites at this place. It's usually on rotation. I love their Zip Pac $15.35. It comes with one piece each of Spam, fried chicken, teriyaki beef and breaded hoki fish fillet on furikaki rice. It really is the perfect combo. I also love their sweet and sour spareribs. It's around $14 for the plate. They have the ratio of sweet to sour down to a science. It's always on point. The pork is tender and you can just bite through the soft bones. Since the sweet and sour spareribs is a daily special, it's only available on certain days. I would check the app or website. The last item that I usually get is the fried chicken plate $14.95. I'm not sure what it is about their famous fried chicken, but it gets me every time. I like to wash everything down with either an orange bang (hubby says it tastes like cough medicine lol) or the lilikoi drink. Don't forget to sign up for their frequent dining rewards. They'll send you coupons and you can accumulate points for free food.

Yelp
Large free parking available. Also very large restaurant dining area inside with booths, tables, and high chairs. Good place for kids. The service is really nice and fast. The menu is huge. I got a Korean fried chicken mini pak it comes with rice mac salad I ordered an extra side of fries and a piece of fried chicken. The mini pak was a perfect portion for one I enjoyed the sauce on the Korean fried chicken but the chicken was a little hard. The fries and piece of fried chicken were delicious and hot and crispy definitely the stars of the meal.

Yelp
Zippy's is a Hawaiian chain restaurant and a popular place for fast casual food on the island. The last time I've been to a Zippy's was probably over two decades ago, but since others wanted Zippy's on a Friday morning, we decided to get take out for breakfast. At this Zippy's location in Kapahulu (the closest one to Waikiki), there is no table service, but there are tables to eat at after you order and receive the food at the counter. We ordered the beef teriyaki plate ($15.30) and the Zip Pac Deluxe ($18.60). The Zip Pac Deluxe comes with a piece of fried chicken, beef, spam, fried fish, white rice, mac salad, and chili. The only difference with the Deluxe is that it comes with chili. They have three options of chili, which include original (with beans), no beans, or vegetarian. I really enjoyed the Zip Pac Deluxe because of the variety of items! The chicken was good, the beef was good, the spam was good, and the fried fish was really good! They even gave a small condiment of tarter sauce for the fish, but I didn't see it until after I had finished the fish. The white rice was flavored with furikake also, which was a nice touch. The beef teriyaki was not bad. It only had beef on top of some decorative cabbage, white rice, and mac salad. Not bad if you are looking for a simple teriyaki beef meal. After ordering, the wait to receive the meal was not too long. Zippy staff was polite and helpful, and they made sure to include utensils and napkins. Overall, we had a good meal from Zippy's. Zippy's also has daily specials which are available after 10:30am. One of the daily specials for Friday was the Lau Lau and Kalua Pork Combo, which sounded really good. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Zippy's Kapahulu. Good staff and good fast casual food!

Yelp
It's been 16 years since I had Zippys. Unfortunately it was better in memory than in person. Surf Pac was terrible. Looks like a hungry man dinner. The Vegas Pac was actually ok, the fried chicken and Korean chicken was good. Chilli cheese fries were fantastic. Too expensive for poor quality local food. Go find Ono kine grindz elsewhere.

Yelp
Stopped by to get some desserts, but this branch is understaffed! There were so many people in the restaurant, but services were sub-par. Will skep this place, especially at nights.

Yelp
We came here after a long hike up beautiful Diamond Head Park for lunch. The Ox tail soup was highly recommended but I have to be honest. It was horrible. The meat had more fat than meat and worse off it was chewy. Service was ok but it too about 20 mins to get warm broth soup. We did r like it and had to go eat Ramen after this meal.

Hugh S.

Yelp
Not good ,chicken overpriced. 30.00 for 9 small pieces. 3 of the 9 blood still runs, nt cooked all the way. Benefit chili not filled all the way up . Container was only 2/3 . Sad won't be selling or buying tickets from anyone. Used to be my favorite place. Sad!
google avatar

Eric T.

Yelp
Please do not overcook your Korean Chicken. Chicken is so hard that all I can taste is the batter. very disappointed
google avatar

Monica Bianca N.

Yelp
I feel like you can always count on Zippy's when you're in need of a good, quick meal. I always get the zip pac since you get a little bit of everything. My boyfriend got the Korean chicken which was pretty tasty. Chili is always a must in Hawaii too. It's Hawaiian fast food at its finest. I think it's always worth a little trip here.

Yelp
Dinner in Kapahulu, Honolulu, Hawaii... Zippy's is the local equivalent of maybe In-N-Out on the mainland in some of the following ways: There are many locations; the food is consistent; and the hours are relatively long (used to be 24 hours a day, but not anymore). The only difference might be that Zippy's service has the Aloha Spirit. Our friend, Emmett from San Diego, was visiting Hawaii for the first time. We wanted him to have a Zippy's experience and suggested that he get the famous Zip Pac. He asked, "What's in a Zip Pac?" Good question. He pointed out that there's no description on the menu. Locals know that a Zip Pac is a bento which consists of Fried chicken, Spam, Teriyaki beef, and fish on a bed of white rice, topped with Furikake, and garnished with takuan (pickled daikon). Emmett asked, "What kind of fish?" Kenzie thought that it was cod. Emmett looked it up - it's hoki. Haha! He ended up getting a Zip Pac after eliminating saimin, ox tail soup, and burgers. Kenzie got soup (because it was a "chilly", rainy evening) and I got my regular chili and Brown rice with cheese and onions (need to ask for cheese and onions). As we dined in the open-air, covered, area, we discussed the fact that the components of the Zip Pac can be changed. For example, if you don't want Teri beef, you can get another piece of fried chicken. Yes - locals take Zippy's for granted. It's just comfort food to us because we grew up with it. Note: this particular location has some sentimental value to me because my classmates from the UH School of Nursing and I would study here. A member of our study group lived off of a side street of Campbell Avenue... We appreciated the convenient restroom since we drank a large quantity of coffee at the time...

Yelp
On the way to the hotel in Waikiki, my friend wanted me to try some food at this local chain restaurant as my first meal in town. The exterior of the building and the inside layout reminded me of family diners on the continent like Friendly's or Marie Callender's. Those eateries also have a bakery counter in which desserts are on display and can be purchased separately from the main menu. The type of cuisine offered here was what I would call fast-casual island fusion. Chili served in multiple ways was listed on the menu screen right above fried chicken. The Favorites section had versions of Hawaiian staples like Chicken Katsu and Loco Moco. Burgers, sandwiches, soups, and saimin were some of the other categories. In the Classics section, there was a Zip Pac and a Surf Pac which had accompanying pictures on the bottom of the screen but absolutely no description. As an out-of-towner myself, I had to ask the cashier what made up those two items. You would think that such information should be listed clearly so customers don't have to rely on just the photos. I ended up ordering a Zip Pac which turned out to be similar to a bento box. It contained a piece of fried chicken, a breaded white flaky hoki fish filet, a slice of teriyaki marinated beef, and Spam on a bed of rice topped with Japanese takuan pickled radish and furikake seasoning. The chicken crust was crispy, however the meat was dry. The fish was pretty plain tasting while the beef was chewy but flavorful. The pickled radish added a nice acidic contrast to the meats. Convenient comfort food at decent prices is probably what draws people to Zippy's. The quality and taste of the products I ate were definitely middle of the road at best which is reflected in a three star rating of my dining experience at this location on Kapahulu Ave.
google avatar

Krystle K.

Yelp
Ordered chili and didn't realize it came with a scoop of rice in it and there would be only a few bites of chili. Also ordered the mini bento with garlic chicken which was really good but much smaller than expected. The service was excellent and I'll return to this location again. I didn't sit down toe at so I can't remember how it looked or comment on the ambience.
google avatar

Wes P.

Yelp
The counter staff service was excellent, very friendly and helpful. The customer service skills of the manager, however, very poor, and almost lost me as a first time customer. I asked for a small spoonful sample of the chili before I ordered. We all know that chili styles vary greatly. And sometimes nice to know what it taste like before you order. This manager gracefully, and with nothing in mind, but goodwill, I am sure, denied my request. I decided to take a chance in order a chili anyway, but if I don't like it, I'm seriously considering redecorating the inside of the store with it. If it's unsatisfactory, I will post another review.

Marcus Jacobi J.

Yelp
Last night I went to Zippys at around 9:15pm. They close at 10pm but I thought that I was still making it in enough time to get quality service and food. I wasn't the guy showing up 5 minutes before closing. Unfortunately the staff didn't seem to care. I ordered a regular chicken katsu and a large chilli and rice. The order was ready in less than two minutes. They handed it to me and I was shocked the bag was only luke warm and felt light I felt like something was off. I asked how was it so quick and they didn't really answer me and just shoed me away. I live four blocks away. Everything was cold when I arrived home. Only thing warm was the two scoops of dry rice they had just put in it and the Katsu looked like half the size of the normal katsu. SHAME ON YOU KAPAHULU ZIPPYS! SHAME!!!! And it stank in there!

Yelp
Our usual stop right after landing in Oahu. Korean fried chicken, saimin and spaghetti with meat sauce always hit the spot.

Yelp
We just ate at Zippy and I'm impressed with the service. Heather was excellent and very attentive and great at her job. Food was fast and was good. She was great asking if we would like malasada. Just so appreciative of the service.
google avatar

Mel H.

Yelp
We were so hungry forgot to take pic of the breakfast meal number 3, which consisted of rice, corned beef hash, Portuguese sausage and eggs. Came out delicious service was pretty fast and background was pretty chill. Service counter folks were friendly. First time here at Zippy's Hawaii and I must say you get a good value for the food. I'll have to return here when I'm back on the Island. Aloha.

Yelp
Friendly Counter staff, great food to select from the variety that's offered on their menu. Zippy's offers Daily Specials for the day, up till 9:30pm. Specials may be sold out so I try to get there ASAP! Hawaiian Stew and Spare Ribs are my favorites!
google avatar

Noel A.

Yelp
There are times when the staff can be just standing around and they see you at the counter and they pretend not to see you and about 1 minute later they turn around and show their fake smile and with a big eye look and say Hi can I help you like they just seen me..,SOMETIMES!

Yelp
We got our food to go, affordable and the portions were great! Good pick overall. Love the food here. Will definitely become a regular here.

Yelp
So looking forward to trying Zippy's again after all of these years and I came out ehh underwhelm. I got the zip pac and didn't realize it didn't come with any mac salad which was a bummer. Overall the cashier was nice and patient with all the questions I had asked but the food and the price did not live up to expectations.
google avatar

Yelp
Yo wait whys this fast food really good for a fast food... anyways I order there Korean fried chicken during breakfast. Pretty upset how there were only 3 pieces but wtv I enjoyed it. I wish they had it where I am...
google avatar

Gill M.

Yelp
Recommended by locals as an authentic Hawaiian place that many love. It surely was delicious and affordable! Ordered the breakfast combo (~$7-$8) and a breakfast platter, which was larger (~10-$11). More of quick and easy, so don't expect fine dining. The Yin Hui/sesame balls and other baked goods are cooked fresh per order so the wait time for those are more of about 10-15 minutes. Employees at this location were all kind! Heads up, no free refills on drinks. Not too busy when we went on a weekday morning and there's a cute character with a board for photos! Multiple locations around Hawaii.

Yelp
Hawaiian staple and first stop, Must go! Loco Moco is Ono and the beef curry was delicious.

Yelp
Zippy's Kapahulu is a much better kept location. The service is the same good service and the food is very good. Medium size parking lot and the interior is a fast casual eatery.

Yelp
This is my 2nd time trying Zippy's. It was recommended to us by a friend who is a Hawaiian native. This place was not to disappoint! Food was fresh, flavorful and in great portions. Service is quick and friendly. My first time trying it However, on our 2nd stop our order was messed up. We wanted white rice for both but with a side of Mac -- was only given rice. We were looking forward to the Mac because it's so good but at least our chicken was fresh and crispy as usual. I definitely recommend the fried chicken or loco loco if this is your first time. Pair it with a cold Lilikoi (passion fruit beverage) you won't wanna miss out!!
google avatar

CJ M.

Yelp
I met relatives here and ordered loco moco and chili. Just like the commercials--their first stop from the airport is Zippy's!

Yelp
I am an old timer who always has to check into one or more of the Zippy's locations when I visit. Depending on the location and probably a lot of things, sometimes the Korean chicken or Saimin or Chili/rice is too dry or not as tasty as other times, but the Zip Packs and Zip Min are usually good at all locations. This time at the Kapahulu location, the Korean Chicken was good but a little dry and I ordered a saimin and not a zip min, but it's still Zippy's and a must-do at one of the locations when I visit. Parking is always crowded, even here at 8pm on Sunday night.

Yelp
Stopped by to get a "quick" bite to eat. Emphasis on "quick"! We came with friends. Although we placed our order at the same time. They received their food...finished eating and we had not even received our food which was about 30 minutes later. They finally called our number. My husband went to pick up our food and was handed a bag "to go". My husband told the gentleman who had packed the order that we had specified "dine in". (In fact, it was the assistant manager who originally took our order). The gentleman gave him attitude as if it was our fault. When we finally received our food...it was lukewarm at best. My husband asked to speak to a manager. Once again the gentleman gave him attitude. The assistant manager touched the different items (with gloves on) and agreed it was warm and not hot. We did not take pictures of the Deluxe Zip Pac. She offered to prepare a new meal if we were willing to wait. We originally took her up on her offer, but upon further consideration requested a refund instead. Our friends had finished eating and we had lost our appetite. Won't be returning to this Zippy's location in the future. Too bad since it's so conveniently located in the Waikiki area. Zippy's is definitely not zippy when it comes to service.

Yelp
Got surf pac it's kinda heavy, should have come here for breakfast. Corn chowder is goood
google avatar

Gali D.

Yelp
Found a COCKROACH in my oxtail soup! Roman, the assistant manager, verified and agreed that it was a COCKROACH. He wanted to refund the soup only and make a fresh one for free... How do you know the cockroach wasn't from the big pot? We ditched all our food and asked for a full refund. THIS PLACE IS DISGUSTING. STAY AWAY. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Yelp
They were training a new worker yesterday during dinner and you could tell she was very nervous to be working solo. I felt very bad for her because she didn't know what was on the menu or which buttons to press for the orders. I understand they are probably going through a shortage of workers but it would've been nice for her to have someone standing next to her in case she needed help, you could tell she was struggling. We honesty went because my daughter really wanted to try the Ube napple. We had dinner first and it was so expensive, zippys isn't worth the price but we need to eat something quick. If we had more time we would've been better off at an actual restaurant. The Ube napple was very good, it's the only thing I took a pic of. Limited time until 1/29 I think.
