The 38 Essential Honolulu Restaurants

"Have you heard the commercials? “Next stop, Zippy’s!” Hawaiʻi’s iconic family diner chain has many locations throughout the state serving many purposes. Kids grow up with Zippy’s chili (now sold frozen so parents can ship it to homesick college kids) and Apple Napples (flaky apple turnovers). It’s also a great place for late-night munchies, like the fried chicken with a side of chili-cheese fries. Proper dinner options, like the Zip Min (a deluxe bowl of saimin noodle soup) or the Zip Pac (mahi mahi, fried chicken, Spam, and teriyaki beef over furikake rice), never fail to please." - Martha Cheng

Google
The Korean Fried Chicken was good but a bit over sauced than other Zippy's restaurants. Three original chicken is better here.

We've been going to this location since it was built. Blockbuster Video was across the street on the other side of the freeway. Shell gas station was also there. A little bit of nostalgia. We lived in the neighborhood so it was a nice stroll to the restaurant. Every Friday evening we had dinner there. The wait to get seated was always prompt. My favorite was a Wonton Min or Curry Katsu Saimin and my wife loved the Chicken Katsu plate. Dessert was always Pineapple sundae. And coffee to finish.

If you’re in Honolulu and craving comfort food with a local twist, Zippy’s in Kahala is a solid choice. Known for blending American, Asian, and Hawaiian favorites, it’s a casual spot that’s great for a quick and satisfying meal. Video Review will be posted on Tik Tok and Instagram soon @Foxyappetite In depth review: I recently stopped by and ordered the Korean Fried Chicken with Chili. The chicken itself was crispy, juicy, and coated in a deliciously sweet and savory glaze. The chili that came with it had good flavor, though there was an issue with the temperature. My portion was a bit too cool, which took away from the overall experience. On the other hand, my best friend’s dish came out with the chili scalding hot—almost too hot to eat. It was as if I got the last bit of a batch that had cooled down, while my friend got the fresh batch. While the flavor of the chili was still great, the inconsistency in temperature was a bit off-putting. Service was quick, and though the atmosphere is basic, the staff was friendly and efficient. I went around dinner time , so there was no wait. In addition to the Korean Fried Chicken, Zippy’s menu features a solid variety of comfort food options. The portions are generous and the prices are reasonable. Pros: • The Korean Fried Chicken is crispy and flavorful with a great glaze. • The chili adds nice flavor (when it’s at the right temperature). • Quick service and a convenient location in Kahala. • Reasonable prices with generous portions. Cons: • Inconsistent temperature of the chili (mine was a bit too cool, my friend’s was scalding). • The atmosphere is simple and can get crowded during peak hours.

Google
Venerable legit place to score late night saimin and won ton min. Chili is also legendary. Lots of bench seating, and easy parking. There’s a Kahala Sushi pop-up in the corner of the restaurant. Highly recommended and will be back soon.

Google
For being Kahala Zippys (dine-in), I thought service would be better, but after yesterday, I'm bummed. Food was okay and I loved the atmosphere, but service took almost 15 minutes of sitting down and waiting before water was served. I feel like prior to 2020, service was decent, but never this bad. Shockingly, I would rank Zippy's Waipahu as having better service than Kahala by 2 stars. Our waitress was super nice and even looked out for us on a deal, but just to get her to show up was a challenge... I'm willing to try again though.

Google
I've been eating at this particular Zippy's for over ten years. The food quality has really fallen recently. I think the hamburger I received for dinner was the worst hamburger I have ever eaten. Burnt black, dry, leathery. Truly awful. On the plus side, the chili is still great

Google
Good casual Hawaiian fare. Essentially a Hawaiian version of a east coast diner, where everything you can think of is available to order. From noodle soups, burgers, local Hawaiian, pastries and even spaghetti bolognese, they have it all. I pretty much made sure I kept it local, I just missed out on the moco loco, next time tho. All in all it was delicious food and it didn’t break the bank either. They even had a solid version of an orange Julius which I haven’t had in years. 😂

Google
Would definitely recommend this. Unsure as to why it’s only ever locals here! Food was amazing, service is good, nice sized parking area. Perfect spot to have lunch, better for lunch than dinner.

Yelp
Our community's Zippy's so I might be biased in saying it's the best lol. I enjoy this location specifically because of the sushi dining. Great part is, you can also order from the sushi menu from the regular dining side. Love this spot for on the go or the nights when we don't feel like cooking. Easy to enjoy with the keiki and one of the few places they will finish all of their food! Good service, cozy and homey feel, clean establishment, ample parking affordable prices. 1 adult + 2 kids = $50, which includes a good tip for dining inn. Menu Go-To: Fried chicken, local deluxe saimin, tempura, and Belgian waffles. Don't forget to make it complete meals! Good value!

Yelp
I saw a post where this lady mentioned her new favorite menu item was the lemon chicken. I love lemon chicken but it's so hard to find good lemon chicken. I used to love L&L but they kept overcooking the chicken. I had high hopes for Zippy's lemon chicken ($15.50) but was so disappointed. The pieces were fatty and not crispy; it's ok if they decided to make their version a non-crispy version, but this one seemed to be their Korean chicken without sauce. The worse part was the lemon sauce--was like a thick lemon gel cake frosting. I tried to eat the chicken nuggets with bbq sauce instead but the texture didnt work. There's just something amiss about it. None of my family members cared for it either, and it's hard for a chinese family to waste food. Also tried the turkey plate ($19.15). Turkey and gravy tasted okay but the stuffing was just mush. Guess nice not having to chew. Was disappointed in how little turkey there was for the price. May look like a lot, but they were small pieces--like the end or scraps. Also ordered the $9.99 spaghetti plate special which seemed to have only about 2/3 the amount than before. I need to try this order again to see if quantity really did decrease permanently. But on the plus side, tried the $15.95 Wrecking Crew pac which was a fun combo of chili, a chicken, Portuguese sausage, and a fish. This would be an awesome permanent addition to the menu. And as always, love the friendly staff.

Yelp
Zippy's Kahala is great. Loads of parking on two levels. Lower level is covered and there are stairs and an elevator to get customers upstairs. For a holiday, it was very easy to order snd pick up my breakfast order. I was a little worried I wouldn't find parking. Clearly posted signs for paid and unpaid phone order pick ups. Plenty of staff on standing by to assist customers and answer any questions. The bakery case was well stocked with pastries, cakes and pies. Any sweets needed for the Christmas morning breakfast feast ahead. Everything looked delicious. I was so captivated, I completely forgot to order the gin dui. ‍ The fried rice was so soft and very flavorful and the Portuguese sausage was perfectly cooked. Not burnt and not just "kissed" by the pan. The spam was a bit overdone, and a little crisp which is easy to do when cut thinly. I know to customize my breakfast order next time.

Yelp
This location is great. Dine in always has great service with friendly staff. Today I tried the chicken trio (garlic, fried, katsu). All very good. Maybe the rice a little hard today. But it was okay. Will not hold it against them. Always a go to place. Aloha

Yelp
The chili and saimin are the best. Solid choices for anyone looking for some warm comfort food. The ube haupia pie did not have enough haupia and tasted almost completely like ube but was still overall good. Easy parking, consistent food, slow service, but still keeps me coming back time and time again.

Yelp
There nothing bad I can say about this place. This is my favorite Zippys on island. I love many items on the menu. The service is always friendly and helpful. The restaurant never feels dirty. The sushi bar is a nice touch. It feels like a place the entire family can go to. I loved the Wun Tun Min with a mini Korean fried plate. And Short Stack of pancakes. The pancakes were perfectly fluffy, syrupy and buttery. They even had a nice crisp to them. I'll definitely be back may more times.

Yelp
I've been here so many times, and for whatever reason, it was busy for Sunday evening. We were in the area, and thought of this place. As usual, you can use your phone to check in, or wait for the attendant to check you in. We opt to use the phone. Anyway, we waited shortly to be seated, but when we sat, it felt like hours to be serviced. I get it, it was busy, but i believe the wait time was like 30 minutes, before the waitress took our order. By the time, she took our order, it was another wait time, before we got our food. Mind you, we wanted to eat in the restaurant, and be catered too. Wrong! it was horrendous service. Long story short, we did get our food, which was partially cold, and alright, because I was famished then. Waitress came to ask, is everything alright. honestly, I was about to say something negative, but I had to hold back. The environment was okay, nice ambiance, and music in the background. But next time, I going eat elsewhere. Zippy's has always been a local favorite, and my go to place, but after experiencing what I went through, never again. I didn't give a generous tip, because they had some service charge, with my tab, but I did leave a tip anyway. Please, don't misunderstand me, I like Zippy's, but I have deep reservations.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite Zippy's locations. Located in Kahala under the freeway, it is diagonally situated across from Kahala Mall on its mountain Ewa side. The food seems standardized across all Zippy's so there will be similar portions sizes and number of items in consistently sized containers. This Kahala Zippy's has 7 distinct areas: (1) Parking lot 1st floor (2) Parking lot 2nd floor (3) Japanese food dining area (4) Eating area (with restroom) (5) Ordering, take out counter for usual Zippy's foods (6) Bakery (7) Dining area (with restroom) PARKING - 2 floors: There is a medium-large parking lot under the building and additional much smaller parking area on the second floor. Access to the first floor parking lot is middle of the building on the East side while the upper second floor parking is accessed at the right side of the building also on the East side of the building. ENTRANCES - 2: 1st Floor - The entrance from the first floor parking lot faces the East middle area of the building. There is a stairwell and an elevator to the second floor. 2nd Floor - Likewise, the second floor parking lot entrance is at the building section facing that parking lot. DINING: Dining and ordering are located on the second floor. Japanese restaurant dining area - The Japanese food dining area serves Japanese food. There is an actual sushi chef who prepares delicious Japanese sushi! One can sit at the sushi counter or at a table. Sushi is served as sets or ala carte per sushi ingredient type (various fish varieties, shrimp, tamago egg, tempura, veggies, etc) and they also offer more mainstay Japanese meals like shrimp tempura and chicken or pork katsu, and Japanese bento meals in black lacquer boxes served with green tea, miso soup, and green salad. Although this is the Japanese food area, one can also order items from the regular Zippy's menu. Eating area - If you want to eat what you purchased from the take out area, this is the place to do it. There are many tables situated in rows and columns, and along the inside wall is the door to the restrooms. Ordering, take out counter - This is the main ordering area for all Zippy's foods. It's in the center across from the main entrance doors. Just walk right up to the counter, place your order, pay for it then, then wait on the opposite side of the ordering counter. When your order is ready, they will call the number associated with your receipt. Bakery - You can select from different varieties of sweets, from napples, to cakes, to pies, and croissant-type treats. Order at this counter. Dining area - Here you wait to be seated and can sit down to a hot fresh Zippy's meal. The portions may be a little different and all meals are served on plates and metal utensils as opposed to disposable ones are used here. They will give you water and napkins along with your order. And although this is the dining area for the usual Zippy's menu, you can also order from the Japanese restaurant dining area. A restroom is at back of the dining area closest to the kitchen. This Zippy's provides a variety of dining situations and includes Japanese foods which are one of my most food favorites! I just wish if anything that the Japanese restaurant would serve different types of Japanese curry dishes. I would order curry all the time!

Yelp
Zippy's in Kahala is a fairly new location compared to orhers in the urban corridor. Across from Kuono Marketplace and Kahala Mall to the makai side, on the corner of Waialae and Hunakai, it is near where the old, haunted Waialae Drive-In Theatre was situated. Zippy's is a local's favorite seving local style plate lunches and it is a Hawaii owned restaurant chain since the 60's. Affordable, fast service, home of the OG chili, and sister company, Napoleon's Bakery. I got the Chili Loco Moco. It comes with a choice of rice, mac salad along with your choice of two eggs atop a Salisbury steak slathered in your choice of chili. Ordered via their proprietary app - customizable options - and picked up at the listed time...off by a couple of minutes but the wait time was still reasonable. Nostalgic, there are better chili than the original recipe...but it just stands the test of time. It was filling and a deal at $15. Grap a Napple...I did not on this occasion...and you have a fulll meal. Parking avaiable on street level and up the ramp...restaurant in on the second level; accessible via stairs or elevator from the street level.

Yelp
Christmas stop is Zippy's... After our usual stop for Thanksgiving and Christmas which are major holidays that I'm lucky to have the day to myself it's usually going back home and chill but I though let's take that one step further and grab a bite and with many places that gives their staff the day off as well luckily Zippy's opens their doors for groups that needs catering items for pick up but for many folks to dine in as well. This Kahala location does have lots of parking and access to the restaurant by stairs or elevator makes it very easy and as many waited for dine in service we decided for the take out and enjoy our bites on many tables that are available to enjoy. Mom got the mini hamburger steak which was the saddest item unfortunately as the patty looks as small as the happy meal burger drenched in gravy topped with onions that was barely cooked and was just too raw that she didn't finish it and didn't want to even take it home sadly which made me really disappointed. Though I ordered the Fried Chicken Plate which came with two scoops of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad and three thigh pieces of hot and crispy fried chicken that they're so known for. Seasoning was a tad salty for me but feeling horrible for mom I gave her a piece which she enjoyed. It's nice to have a place for local comfort foods and here I'm grateful to the staff for doing their best though there are reasons I don't frequent very often and keep it simple as some of the menu options aren't recommended. Thank you!

Yelp
Sunday July 27, 2025 I came here for dinner and decided to dine in the restaurant side. I don't eat breakfast or lunch on Sunday. So, I thought I would be really hungry! Chili Burrito plate as a complete meal of corn chowder, fruit punch and custard pie which I took home. Eyes bigger than the stomach. lol. The stomach is big. But, acted like it was small for today. lol. Service friendly and fast. Food is always good! That why, I always come here. Ambiance is very casual and very comfortable. I know, I will be back whether dine in as take out. I always support local restaurants and businesses.

Yelp
Friendly service. In addition to the regular menu, this location serves sushi, soba, udon & tempura. Nice to have the variety. The tempura had 2 shrimp & was crispy, not greasy. Love the apple napple & dream cake.

Yelp
My husband and I love going to Zippy's--it's been a favorite of ours since childhood. Today, we decided to indulge in some comfort food that brings back fond memories. He ordered the mini loco moco, and I had the small wun tun min. Both dishes were delicious and satisfying--definitely glad we didn't go for the full-sized portions! While the restaurant was a bit understaffed, our waitress was amazing. She was constantly on the move but still managed to remember our order and even refilled my hot tea without being asked. Out of all the Zippy's locations I've visited, I have to say the Kahala one is my favorite. The staff is friendly, the place is clean, and it has a homey, comfortable vibe. You know it's good when you see so many senior citizens dining here!

Yelp
After being away from Hawaii all I wanted was zippys! Love it here o don't care what anyone one thinks or say! If you're a local in the mainland you know !

Yelp
The current special was shared in Facebook. Shrimp tempura with furikake salmon for $17.95. It was quite good! Too much for me to finish so I brought some salmon home. Tempura was light and crispy but by the end it got kind of oily. It was still pretty good all in all. The young server Reese was great! He had to bus the table, take order, serve, refill water and tea, all by himself.... And he was very pleasant! I recommend it!

Yelp
This is specifically for the Sushi Menu. I came during lunch and I realized I have never been to this Zippys location before and so I knew I had to order off their Sushi Menu since I can get the Zippys menu at any other location. Restaurant is clean. Sushi dining area says it's closed until 5pm but they still serve sushi on the restaurant side. I ordered the Tempura Zaru and omg the tempura is SO GOOD. The batter was nice and flakey and not just a thick coating. Came out hot and fresh. I was a little disappointed the soba and tempura didn't come out at the same time bc by the time the tempura came, my dipping sauce was getting cold but it was still good regardless. My bf just got the ahi nigiri and presentation and slice size was nice. Overall, I was impressed by the sushi selection. However, the pricing threw me off.. I was a little surprised at how expensive some of the options were considering this is Zippys (unless the sushi is it's own separate vendor and just sells under the Zippys name so I understand). Quality was better than normal fast sushi places though so I guess it's valid. But yeah, for a fast casual place, don't expect the sushi to also be fast sushi prices. I'd come again!

Gregg M.

Yelp
Hostess nice. Very clear on my order but it was incorrect. I had clarify it 1st time, 2nd time as well. When it came back out-not better. Was going to buy $70+ of gift cards for friends but decided I'll do that elsewhere.

Darren C.

Yelp
Came to this zippys thinking it would be faster than the Hawaii Kai one. Nope. 25 minute wait for: 2 Portuguese bean soups Shrimp tempura Kokua pack The staff was super friendly and apologetic. They offered two drinks while we waited. They need to hire more kitchen staff.

Yelp
Everything was a great experience coming here! Good vibes from all staff and even the customers!! I guess also Christmas too helped! I never have an issue coming here, because the people are generally friendly at this location. I hope its not seasonal, i dont think it is! Lol

Yelp
Absolutely great service. The pickup process was easy and not confusing! Will always eat here. I got the zip pac and it was good. Teri beef was tenders

Yelp
My go to place on days I'm working and craving either an oxtail soup or their sweet and sour spareribs. Today, I got the oxtail soup. The broth temperature is perfect and seasoned well with shiitake mushrooms and choy sum over perfectly cooked (today, not always ;)) steamed rice. This is best eaten with lots of grated ginger and shoyu for dipping. Super yummm!!! The service went pretty quickly and this is the first few that I was greeted with a smile. The cashier or behind the counter staff was Killion (like million;)) He was nice, friendly and smiled throughout the conversation. Thank you! I forgot to take a photo of it but my sweet choice dessert is and will always be the strawberry cream cheese squares. So so good!!! Go get yours and tell me I was right! Have a beautiful A L O H A Friday! Thank you for reading my review.

Alan L.

Yelp
Newest app sucks. Kept signing me out and had to keep trying. When I finally got in, submitted my order and went to pay and error message said cannot process and kicked me out. When I tried to sign in again, it couldn't find a location and I was in the parking lot of the restaurant. I complained 2x and they never bothered to answer. I'll patronize places that appreciate business. Zippys doesn't care.
google avatar

Yelp
Update on Zippy's Kahala I'm not sure why I always torture myself. This time we ordered in person and placed a Take out order . It literally took 20 mins from placing our order till receiving our order . Most plate lunch restaurants will take no longer than 10mins . Don't want to mention names but it start with a L... Also look at the Teri Beef it keeps on shrinking LOL . For $18.75 the only positive thing about the Zip PAC deluxe is the fried chicken is a little bigger .
google avatar

Cora L.

Yelp
Love it. While I usually pick up, sometimes we'll dine in and the service is always efficient and the people who work there are sweet. The space is a good size with an area for takeout and another area for dining in. There's parking below Zippy's and street parking up the street. The lot can feel a bit tight and dark but has always had spaces when I've been. We like to get the Korean fried chicken, saimin, spaghetti, chili, or zip pacs. All are solid and tasty options. We've also had the katsu, which is good. We get dessert from them as well -- usually Dobash cake, Naples, donuts, etc. These are good as well!

Yelp
Went there the other evening and it wasn't that crowded. service was quick and the food was tasty as usual. (no complaints). one question I do have is a .88 cent charge for kitchen service on receipt,no big deal but just wondering what is that for. if anyone knows?

Yelp
Tonight I have witnessed at least 30 people waiting for their takeout, orders. Was taking 1 hour wait!

Wayne I.

Yelp
Went for dinner and had the spaghetti special, be aware as the $9.99 special price is for take out not dine in, it was about $2 more for dine in, but for a special the portion was plentiful, also ordered the spareribs, this was about $20, prices sure have gone up. The place was very busy and I guess like many restaurants, they are short staffed, still everyone did their best and no one was neglected. Both dishes were tasty and well made. Haven't had a bad experience yet.

Yelp
Came here for a superbowl meal. The fried noodles were yummy and the Korean chicken platter was yummy too. Surprisingly I enjoyed the fried chicken was the best. We had the 21 piece fried chicken meal. The Mac salad and bucket of rice was plentiful. The Mac salad was very creamy. Please check out my photos of the order.

Yelp
The Love/Hate relationship with Zippys Kahala. 2024 Businesses are all having problems with manpower requirements. Zippys is no different. They are still unable to open the restaurant sides fully. The sushi bar is still not available because of possible refrigeration problems. The workers really do work hard and on the regular restaurant side they don't seem to be able to get enough servers but again, the servers that are there do work hard to keep up. Recently. We had dinner there with friends and three of us ordered the sweet sour pork special plate. Love- the sweet sour pork, was tasty and the portion was generous. They did raise the price but everything is going up. Hate- The toss salad-was sparse, just lettuce, no tomatoes or anything else. This salad portion was about what was served on the mini plate before. Hate- the size of the brownie delight, this has really shrunk. If we had known it was that small we wouldn't have ordered it. The brownie pieces were hard and dry. Love- the Napples our friends ordered were of good size and delicious. We should have ordered that. Love- the service was great. I was observing our server and she had many tables but was able to service all her tables effectively. Kudos to Macy. 4 stars for great service delicious sweet sour pork. If we only ate the brownie delight it would have been lower. I would avoid the brownie delight for now. Still a nice place to have a meal to converse. Just be careful of what you order.

Yelp
Love zippys and this location had a take out or sit in option. The kids menu was fun because it came with a token to play one of their machines. Rather than a toy we ended up getting a $5 coupon towards zippy. The loco moco and kids Mac and cheese were great fast food options. Plenty of parking.

Rodney S.

Yelp
Very disappointing. This is one of our go-to spots to meet the relatives from Hawaii Kai and Kahala when we are in town. We've met here for the past 10+ years. We are on the island 3x's a year and this last time Zippy's was so disappointing. The booths, walls, floor, and blinds were filthy. The quality of food declined substantially. The corned beef hash was the consistency of ice cream. We left it on the plate. The utensils were dirty and we had to ask for more. The iced tea tasted like coffee and was bitter. We are so disappointed. We will be going to another restaurant when we are back next month. I hope the GM reads this and takes the appropriate action to bring this store up to proper standards.

Yelp
ZIPPYS- a comfortable local restaurant that has been around for as long as I can remember! I can always count on my need to fix any local food cravings I have while being away from my heart town and now living on the mainland. Parking is at ground level and covered which is very helpful on hot days. The restaurant is located on the second floor and there is an elevator or stairs to use. Their Kahala location is spacious and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Lengthy conversations could be enjoyed and we never felt rushed. I tried their new, on the menu, mushroom omelette which tasted flavorful and the omelette was cooked just the way I like it. Plus a side of Portuguese sausage of course! My friend had their Meat n Eggs dish which she enjoyed. The unique thing that makes Zippy's such a long standing favorite with local people is the availability of menu items unique to the island. The blend of the many different cultures. So Loco Moco is offered along with Portuguese sausage , or a Teri-beef plate can be eaten with pancakes or breakfast bentos or Hawaiian stew and Chicken Long rice or their famous chili. So it's remarkable and I am very happy that they have managed to stay in business for over 50 years and counting. Nothing fancy but home style done with Aloha. There are lots of options to choose served with a smile. That's all I cared for on my hunt for an early morning meal and they never disappoint.

Yelp
Suprisingly some pretty decent Japanese tempura for a fast dinner. Everytime we go to Kahala the tempura comes out nice and hot and doesn't take very long once you order it! Super crispy and a family fave for the east side when you can't get reservations for a small Japanese restaurant or are too late to make reservations someplace and have that tempura craving, Zippys Kahala it is! They're fast conveniently located and very pleased! A lot of times the same servers seem to be there on the days we go they're all great servers and one of our favorites was Moon, she taught us that if someone is getting a teishoku 2 choice you can make it a 3 choice for $5 more ( by now the price has gone up ) but that is the same as ordering a side order of shirmp veggie tempura and it's almost double the price for the side order! Another family favorite is the club sandwich! Every slice of bread is nicely toasted and comes with a lot of fries! Saw some posts that people add more bacon or a fried egg to it have yet to try that! Recently tried the chocolate haupia pie not bad pretty expensive tho for a small pie! Completely missing Ted's Bakery in the stores! Don't forget to sign up for their reward program too! Gives you free chili bowl for your birthday and points towards a free zip pac and other goodies ! Tip for those that don't like bbq meat- you can sub out the bbq meat for an extra chicken in a zip pac for no extra charge!

Yelp
From the time we walked in and sat down our waitress Sheri took a while to wait on us. Now, I understand it's short staffed but to repeat everything twice to her...I asked for water at the time of ordering, she forgot. She forgot my sister's straw, she asked all the other tables if everything was ok? Never did with us, never refilled my coffee. We were invisible. Took another 10 minutes and we flagged her down for takeout containers and for the bill. Brought containers, no bill. I had to finally walk over to her to ask for the bill AGAIN!!

Yelp
Growing up eating at Zippys can never go wrong. Food is always good here , service is top notch here too. Inside the restaurant are always clean. This is one of my favorite local foods to come after a long day.

Yelp
Had a gift card for zippys so I decided to stop here one night to grab take out. Luckily I ordered ahead on the app and wait was 30 mins. When I got there, the parking was crazy! I was going to park on the top floor but when I got up there, they were doing construction so that door wasn't opened. When I got inside, it was so crowded both for dining in and taking out. I ordered the tempura zaru udon. I had to wait about five more minutes before it was ready. When I took it back home, the tempura was surprisingly not soggy. The noodles had just the right texture and both sauces were good.

Yelp
Ordered fried noodles and this is what we were given. Basically just noodles. No spam and what one little piece of fish cake???? Come on Zippy's very disappointing!!!!

Yelp
A staple and iconic establishment you must visit when in Hawaii! Our faves: - Family zip pac chili (no bean) - Trio of chicken, but kids fave is the tonkatsu. - Everyone loves the ox tail soup, it's OK -- but the meat is not tender and it is expensive ($30+?) Parking lot avail. Recommend ordering ahead because I've waited 45 min for 3 orders on a weekday before.

Yelp
I was ono for saimin but SHUCKS! the broth was tasteless. On the other hand my dad's sweet sour spareribs were tender and tasty and plentiful! Maybe next time I should stick to my favorite burrito with no bean chili. Can't go wrong there!

Yelp
The running joke is that Zippy's is consistent..... consistently mediocre. I haven't been to Zippy's in years but was in the area and needed a place to eat/work. The funny thing is that as fast food prices have nearly doubled Zippy's hasn't kept pace. So while I'd say it used to be more pricey than other fast food it's now equivalent or possibly cheaper. This location has a sushi/japanese restaurant in it that opens at 5. It's expensive but they have specials which are decent. This time I got a tofu burger, fries and a large water which was about $11.50. Not horrible.

Yelp
Great service and food is always consistently good. Sometimes they're understaffed and it can get busy but our experience here is positive.

Yelp
My go to place for any meal. The prices keep going up but the food tastes good so I keep coming back. Today I came for breakfast. You can eat healthy; a nice papaya, toast and tea. Or if you're hungry you can have what I had; the Zippy's omelet with fried rice and coffee. The omelet is a nice blend of meats, veggies and cheese. The fried rice here is on the simple side, not loaded with ingredients. However, its also not oily because its simple, which complements the omelet nicely! Service was very good. I judge this by not only how fast and accurately your food comes out but if they keep refilling your coffee.0 Zippy's has always been a comfortable place to dine. Its very clean and well lit. You can also enjoy talking story since you don't feel rushed and the place is not too quiet or loud.

Yelp
Update on our Kahala Zippy's visits. We have been coming a few times a week, and now we ask for PJ! She is THEE BEST waitress at this location! Maybe the best Zippy's waitress or employee by far!! The other waitresses are good, but PJ is better. This review is for the famous Zippy's Zip Pac and the Surf Pac. I rarely eat these because they're pricey. So for those that aren't familiar with them, here's a comparison review. (Maybe I'm the only one that's not familiar with them hahaha!) Zip Pac: 1 fried chicken, slice of luncheon meat, 1 fried with batter fish, 1 slice of teri beef and rice WITH furikake. Surf Pac: 2 fried chicken, 1 slice of luncheon meat, 2 slices of teri beef and NO furikake on the rice. NO fish! $1.95 more than the Zip Pac. The fish was good, but the tartar sauce changed and more sweet than before. Which one do I prefer, they were both good. I heard you can substitute your meats if you want. By the way, their CLAM CHOWDER is da bomb!! It's only available on certain days of the week, and not daily.

Yelp
Mom and I thoroughly enjoyed our Korean chicken / chili plate and chicken katsu curry plate special. Moon makes it extra wonderful for us. She anticipates what we want and takes good care to provide speedy service. We drive 15 miles to Kahala just so we can enjoy this location. Moon makes a big difference for us which is why we keep coming back. Thank you Moon, you are a gem!

Yelp
Ordered a regular size Stew plate with rice and Mac salad and asked to have rice and Mac salad in separate container they charged me .30 twice but the worst part the stew had only two small pieces of meat and one measly PEA , yes ! 1 pea !! See photo . Ridicules what's happening to zippys gosh!!!! Also ordered a pork egg plate which was super oily with not much taste . The one star is for the burrito plate which was an always ok .

Yelp
Beautiful spacious and fast service. Ono delicious food. Some places are just worth eating at. This is one of them. It's been a while since I ate Zippys & this was worth it! Had wonderful & awesome dinner with some Familend's (Family-Friends) Thank you very much for a wonderful & delicious evening! And to rope it off... taking some ONOLICIOUS NAPPLES home to the other witto ones!
