New Seafood Truck Huckleberry Is Opening in North Austin | Eater Austin

"A seafood catering outfit is launching its first food truck focused on South Texas seafood, driven by co-owner and chef Davis Turner—who grew up near Corpus Christi—and co-owner Melinda “Reese.” The menu emphasizes sustainable local species such as black drum, sheepshead, and golden tilefish, and includes seafood po’ boys (fried Gulf oysters, shrimp), various fish sandwiches, seafood platters with fish, fries and a side, and indulgent caviar fries topped with crème fraîche and a dollop of caviar. There will be weekly sandwich specials (teased items include a hot fish sandwich and a fried Korean fish sandwich with kimchi), plus non-seafood dishes like quail and burgers made from nilgai (an antelope species abundant in South Texas) and vegan/vegetarian options such as a vegan fried green-tomato po’ boy; everything will be fried using corn from Barton Springs Hill. The team is working to become certified in the James Beard Foundation’s Smart Catch sustainable-seafood program, will open initially for lunch and dinner with weekend brunch planned later (possible dishes: shrimp and grits, pork belly, fish pimento cheese sandwiches), continues to operate its catering and pop-ups, and used a $5,000 Alamo Gives grant to help fund the truck’s refrigeration." - Nadia Chaudhury
